That AMX/3 is a gorgeous vehicle. I really miss my '70 Javelin, my only muscle car, with its 390, Borg T-10 close-ratio trans, and enough torque that it twisted the rear leaf springs enough for the car to crouch before slingshotting off in a cloud of rubber smoke. I rebuilt the engine and it was putting out roughly 425 horsepower and 425 ft/lbs of torque. It stuck to the ground like it was on tracks, and I'd slide passengers from side to side like a pinball in the back seat, before they could hold on. 'Twas my most favorite car of all time.

Very interesting and quite ahead of its time. Always liked AMC cars, especially their Javelin/AMX series and drove a '66 Rambler for a couple years in the early 80s. Easy to work on and nearly indestructible.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
German Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be
banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine
and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027
on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any
    more...

Whoever at AMC decided not to go through with production of this car really dropped the ball. The "what if" questions this car raises are monumental. In my opinion, this is one of the biggest missed opportunities in the history of American car design. This car would have sent prospective buyers to AMC car dealerships in droves. They would have went simply to look at this car and ended up buying something else on the AMC lot. I am assuming that it would have been priced more in the exotic car spectrum and out of the reach of the average driver. But so was the Pantera.
I'd imagine that the AMC would have come in lower than the 1970 cost of a Pantera of $10,295 because it wouldn't have to be shipped to the US from Modena, Italy where all Pantera's came from.
The design trend would likely have affected future AMC's in a positive way, and been even more influential than it was. You can certainly see some characteristics of that profile line in later AMC's, but certainly nothing as dramatic. It really is too bad that this never came to fruition. I think the sports car world missed out on what would likely have been a fantastic car.
