    Really late late comment, but , just taking a chance... Is there a list of places you have which one can apply for US observership in? which are likely to be accepted.

    Is it factible to search for Clerkships/Electives as you said for the observerships? I mean, search for those programs that are not attached to other companies that charges you

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  5 лет назад

      It is better to actually go to an elective that is free. And I would advise against going with a company that charges you money, unless you exhausted other options.

    Is it possible to participate in any sort of publication during observership, and how you can secure that?
    Thanks in advance

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  6 лет назад

      The purpose of the observership is mainly NOT research. It will be difficult to do research while being an observer. The only way is usually by connecting with a physician/researcher who needs help and willing to take you on as a volunteer during your time there.

    So as a medical student of 1/6 in Turkey, Is it possible to be accepted to any observerships in US , or is it unimportant to do such kind of advances from the first year?

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  4 года назад

      You can be accepted. It will be more difficult, especially giving the current circumstances, but you can. Medical students are always easier to get electives.

    If a student is graduated but doing internship at present , which is better to go for ?? Observerships or electives?? And is USMLE step 1 going to be necessary for that ??

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  6 лет назад

      Elective is a lot better than observership. Some places require step 1 and others don't.

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  6 лет назад +1

      I don't know how it goes in your country, but in Egypt for example, you are still considered a student untill you finish your internship year. So you are still eligible to apply for electives. It depends on your country/medical school.

      Clerkship has hands on experience and usually done by students. Observership is just observation.

    • @MrJuanda991

      its known how hard is to get a LOR doing an observership because they never see you working.... how did you get a LOR? were you shadowing a physician or were you in a big university hospital? Im doing an observership next month and any tips will be kindly appreciated :). Thanks!!

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  6 лет назад +2

      I did both. I was shadowing a physician in the office and also did a month in a hospital. The thing that makes you stand out the most is your attention to the case itself and the questions you ask which shows interest. You can't do much work, but you can read up on the cases you saw and maybe ask follow up questions. Ask to be involved as much as possible. Be always on time and offer to help with anything when an opportunity comes (like looking up some information, remembering information related to the patient and so on). It also depends on tge expectations you set your observership on. You need to be clear about your objectives with the physician you will showdow. You can have a meeting with him/her and mention that you would like him/her to evaluate your time with them and that you hope your interest and attitude will lead to a LOR towards your residency application. That's as far as I can tell you. I hope it helps.

    • @MrJuanda991
      @MrJuanda991 6 лет назад +2

      Thats awesome!! thanks for taking the time to answer.
      So you think is easier to get a LOR by shadowing a physician at the office rather than being in a hospital with many students around? Its just I have the chance to decide whether do one or another so whats your opinion on that?
      thanks again for your time

    • @USMLE101
      @USMLE101  6 лет назад +1

      It depends! A hospital experience is more valuable in general, but it is easier to get a recommendation letter if you Shadow a physician in his/her office. If it were me, I would choose the hospital and try my best to stand out and get the recommendation letter.
