That was an intense conversation 11:48 I think some people forget that Dalila was a formidable alpha female in her younger days, there's not many females that would initiate and maintain prolonged eye contact with a silverback. She's no easy pushover, she knows that the safest place for her and Makongo are by Lomako. He for his part needs to be more proactive, but in a calm and controlled manner. He'll learn, he's young and Dalila is a wise and great teacher. On a side note, watching Nana D schooling Zola was a treat. She was so over her shenanigans and she's still spritely when needed, I don't know who was more surprised me or Zola at the speed and ferocity of Dalila. 💖💖🦍

I'm new to watching this troop but they area fascinating group of personalities with the extra sadness of having recently lost one of the central and important members. Yeah, Nala definitely has baby & Dalilas back. Nobody is gonna hurt her little brother and her let it happen. All Dad would have to do is step towards them and they would all scatter. I love the silverback side eyes they give, nothing no more intimidating than that. 😂🤣

If Dalila is giving warning sounds then Lomako will react. Just like when the baby is really in distress the gorillas will react. Dalila has to be careful when the Makongo is looted. Just the other day,I saw a video of two females going at it and there goes the baby flying right out of her arms. A lot younger then Makongo but it happens.

I find it interesting the behaviour of Loango and DJ other dad in Taiwan zoo DJ would Stopped what happened the other day with Mosi . The fact the Queen had to Encourage Loango do his duty both as father and as leader . Best way to try describe what am trying say Loango is an Old school man father (not saying he don’t love just finds hard to openly show it24/7)etc , DJ is the Modern day man a bit more soft and loving showing his emotions.

@f1b I'm new to this troop and I was getting the impression that he is a bit of an outsider even though he is the zilverback. I've been amazed at the solidarity of the younger members and they have put him right a couple of times as a group. They are a very interesting troop with such a range of strong characters. Fascinating.
I kind of agree about old school modern dad, lol. I’m new to Lomako’s troop as well. I’ve followed D’Jeeco’s family for a years and he actively keeps peace and has a big role in his son’s lives. As Makongo gets older hopefully Lomako will play with him. Poor DJ is a patient jungle gym.
When the baby is nursing, Dalila and Makongo are indeed isolated in a separate room. Being unable to see the baby for extended periods can cause anxiety among the family members. Dalila is actively helping the baby integrate into family life, which shows they are adapting and addressing this issue positively.
I dont know jack about any type of animals but what about some type of enrichment for the other gorillas. They dont have anything to focus on but the baby. Im GUESSING in the wild the wild is their enrichment but they are in captivity with no where to go but a small space.I saw on another video where genki is they have this type of thing.

What I hope, considering two female gorillas dies of abscesses, which I read could be caused from pelvic inflamatiory disease among other causes, (it is also not uncommon among gorillas) that they screen and treat for stds which surely they must do when introducing new gorillas. Hopefully anyway. But something is up when two females within a few years die of abscesses. Sanga I think was Mosi's Mom? These guys have had a lot of loss lately. 💚
I also feel so sorry for the baby gorilla it's as if he feels unsafe to leave Dahlia,, because they will grab him up He should be free to crawl around and explore with out Mosi or anyone else touching him. Are staff going to do something about the situation?????
At Makongo's age, Dalila's protection is quite appropriate. Now that Dalila is willingly bringing the baby closer to the silverback, it shows that silverback Lomako has earned her trust. You can see that both Mosi and Nala are allowed to approach baby Makongo, but only Zola is kept at a distance.

Genki did the same when Gentaro baby gorilla napped Kintaro constantly. She would sit near Momotaro as a barrier/ deterrent.

Perhaps they don't have enough space indoors, but outside, they have beautiful enclosures.
Genki's zoo takes good care of her, but their space is so much smaller overall. This space with its lovely outdoors is far better imo.
