Metallica The Unnamed Feeling
I do not own this song, the song is property of Metallica
I don't care what anyone says, I'll defend this one song in particular. I think the lyrics and meaning behind it are amazing (stress and anxiety)
Demon Rantz this song is in my top 10 Metallica songs easily!
Demon Rantz people who dislike this have an unnamed feeling
@@thetownenders7930 , we All do...
Still Seeking...
Absolutely...
For some reason the priests were most valued social class in every civilization but our current one. Mostly they did not get it right but atleast they tried. Man is a spiritual being, want it or not.
when a song is heavy but could also make u cry
And thats what make MetallicA a one in a million band.
I don't know why this song is underrated, it healed me when I had a panic attack and felt about to die, this was like a tranquilizer and came back to life.
+RIGBY LEHMEHL I always thought he described panic attacks pretty well, too. The repetition of "it comes alive", coupled with the guitar repeating in the background, really drives the point home. It's a good song.
I just had my first severe panic attack 4 days ago, and I've been dealing with one for the greater half of today... I had no idea how perfectly this song talks about them. it's helping me alot, I think.
How can this calm you?
@@aaaaaa-us2dk , Because the song's hard bursts can match the feeling of the anxiety, helping it sneak into your tense mind. And there, it delivers lyrics that both relate to what you're going through (reassuring you you're not alone, and that others do understand how traumatizing such an attack can be; that you are NOT at fault for this and you're NOT weak to experience it), and they also define and explain that 'unnamed feeling,' which helps you see it in a more factual way. It helps you re-frame the panic/anxiety attack, from subjective (the horrible emotions) to objective (this is what's happening, here are the symptoms, this is a song about it). And when you can categorize an experience and analyze it, you understand it more, which allows you to mentally guide yourself through it, and emerge.
In short: A strong song that sympathizes with you can become a powerful ally. Sharing your pain with understanding, but moving ever forward in a controlled manner, a firm and strong companion. Just grab on, and let it carry you through the storm, coming out through the other side with your head banging, your terror replaced with the excitement of hard music.
🤘😎
yes. 🤘
I've found safety in this loneliness
But I can not stand it anymore
Yeah...
when ur own sanctuary turns on u! hahahah relatable
One of the most under rated Metallica songs.
From the most underrated album for sure
Great album!
True that
facts
4:51 This part saved so many lives though
Mateo Barragan I like that part.
That part just releases so much stress and anxiety that sometimes I feel...The anguish of my struggle within.
The way Hetfield sings really sends chills down your spine. Even when the lyrics don't seem all that impressive(Which isn't all that often for a Metallica song), the delivery pushes it through. My favorite part of this song was "You fool, you fool, it will be here soon", second is "I want to hate it all away". There's just so much power there
I like "Get the fuck out of my head" part much more ^^
this and frantic have the best lyrics on the album
Fafix666 Me too man! So savage! Just raw emotion. I personally LOVE this album and still listen to it all the time.
Cole Jenkins
How can you tell that lyrics aren`t often impressive...when you consider all of metal bands, especially Maiden, because there`s always question Metallica or Maiden...none of other bands, not just in metal, can`t beat James lyrics. How many of song writers write about their personal issues, about real problems, not about devil, death etc. like maiden???? Be realistic, you don`t need to like Metallica but be objective about their work :D
Sale Pupic have you actually listened to iron maiden?
Come on. The more you listen to this album, the more you like it. One of the main reasons because I love Metallica is for their versatility
This album has aged better than I had expected.
Why the fuck people hate St.Anger ? It's so thrash and agressive album, I love St. Anger as much as Ride The Lightning.
I think is no thrash , it's more like heavy nu
Juan Pablo heavy nu? i don't see or hear any nu metal elements? please enlighten me
28leftbehind its the tinny drums
Valafar 666 yes it has , well im just sayin´ but it sounds to me like system of a down the entire album , the first 4 songs sound to me like heavy metal
+28leftbehind great album, awful drum sound..
I can't understand why people are so hot and cold with Metallica. They are who they are. They are not going to be the same as they were in every album. People grow and change and their emotions are different and so goes the music. They are caught in a balancing act where they are pleasing the fan but trying to satisfy their own artistic identity as well.
+Isaac Newton i think u got that backwards, the band made the music lol
+Isaac Newton "they only like band name or the brand"
That's a really good way to put it. A lot of people will identify themselves as "fans" of a band simply because it's popular, then later find that they don't actually like that band. So instead of admitting that they were just lying to fit in with a crowd, they continue lying to themselves by insisting that the band "isn't itself" anymore
@@davidfellner1119 I'll say this: sure they have changed alot over the years but they have always been unique and have never tried to fit into the "what's hot" peg. Their sound may have gone through some changes but never their style. They have never wavered or backed down and probably knew this album would recieve backlash. I don't necessarily agree with lars on the whole napster fiasco but i respect him for not backing down and sticking to his guns and faced the consequences. Metallica has always been Metallica. Their commercial success had nothing to do with selling out. It had to do with them giving the world quality music and memories that will last forever. To me that's what makes a great band no matter the genre. Pop and mainatream comes and goes but "music" will be forever.
@@claudegibson7650 very well put my man.
Honestly i love St Anger, i love every Metallica albums but i don't see how i could hate this one, different sure but damn awesome
Agreed
Totally agree with you mate. ;)
+Demon Rantz +Andrzej Markowski Glad to know intelligent and nice people are here \m/ Rock on brothers
Kilian | Feed the flames I loved the raw power it had \m/
wouldnt say i hate it, as they are an incredible band, i just think its the worst of their work so far - together with death magnetic. Still a top track and the album still offers a shit load.
most metallica fans say that st anger is there worst album, i don´t agree you can feel the songs when you listen close enough
True fans will love all their work and understand the pain they went through while making this album. Metallica will always be my heroes. And fuck what others say this is far most my favorite album
Lulu is easily the worst.
+AllHopeIsLost Official Lulu is not a Metallica album
Personally... I can't find much to like on Kill'em all. Heresy, I know. Most of the thrash stuff, really (just sounds like loads of trebble hissing all over the place).
shagster010 St Anger isn’t a bad album and I do feel it’s underrated, but it’s still their worst album. That doesn’t mean I hate it though.
I remember being a kid, probably 12 years old when this was released. Me and my buddies made a skateboard VHS and I had this song being played when I was skating in the movie. Good old times...
It honestly surprises me that this song only has 8 dislikes. St. Anger is definitely an extremely underrated album.
Best song of the album.
I would say it's "Some Kind Of Monster". But, yeah, this one is still really good.
Trent Stines I would say the silence at the end of the album is the best part.
Trent Stines Me too Some Kind of Monster rocks all the rest of the songs suck except for a few
Sean Slawson Frantic is awesome.
yeah it is, but i like Some Kind of Monster and Shoot Me Again better.
The fact there's no "-" between "Metallica" and "The" is bothering me...
+Matt200055 thank you.
Kinda bothers me to
Didn't notice it until you pointed it out. Bothers the crap out of me XD
The thing is Metallica is indeed an unnamed feeling, its so powerful ;)
lol
An amazing song off a very underrated album
True, I consider this a rock masterpiece.
Good song, but the album is not underrated. It really is a piece of garbage. I never ever listen to it.
taxi 14 This album is a 2 way street. You either hate it or love it.
Ikr
that eargasm was so powerful that my ear tubes imploded
This song is AMAZING
this song helped me out when I was suffering from cluster headaches. The worst 11 fucking years of my adult life. :(
The snare gave me cluster headaches
I dont share your opinion but here's an upvote for being funny
Best song off an under appreciated and mis understood album!
I feel like he was going through something when he made this album. :P
Yeah james wrote the album when he was in rehab
lazyfireball7889 just watch the "some kind of monster" movie, and you'll understand...
Mauricio Mijares I watched it recently, it made me love and appreciate the album a lot more
The whole band was going through something when this album was in the works.
His alcohol addiction
Anyone know that they made their own alcohol beverage with vibrations of their songs? They should make vitamins/medications with this album. All of the pain goes away.
Wha really
Good song to describe what PTSD feels like in a way, i watched my dad die at 15 and was a medic in the army for 6 years. This song gets me.
So sorry to hear that... Stay strong brother
I'm not joking, this song makes me unnamed feeling. But it's positive feeling.
4:50 gives me the chills every time I listen to this... song? It's actually much more for me.
AND THE NAME FEELING IT COMES ALIVE TREATS ME THIS WAY! what a fucking powerful bit of metal
This song is so powerful
WHAT A GREAT SONG!!!!!
i like this song and album yes its abit raw and they going through a big change at the time with rehab etc but its real which music these days lacks , its all about making dollars in the pop/rnb world.. good album i think though i love older metallica, but im a metallica fan so love most of what they do.
Although I am not a fan of some of the song structures they used on this album, I understand the sentiment behind it and what the band was going through when they recorded this!!
5:09 - 5:23
King Cozmo you can hear the pain in James’s voice
To me it even sounded like he was starting to cry a little.
The best part.
fav song from this album, you can really hear old school metallica here.. at least the beginning part maybe.. idk
An amazing song that digs very deep within the human soul. Anger, anguish, loneliness, hatred, pain, confusion...just a few of the unnamed feelings that we can go through in silence. Wanting to get the “fuck away from oneself” is so deep yet so hard to do...that leads to the unnamed feelings. \m/
You forgot one unnamed feeling that no one likes to talk about ~ depression...
This song fits me perfectly
Metallica’s lyrics got really personal in Mama Said and then the St. Anger album and I love it.
Entire load and reload in fact. Just listen to fixxxer
@@Celatra low man lyrics
Man this song is great. I hated the album when it came out 20 years ago. Now I love it and is in my top 3 metallica albums. Every time I listen to it, I like it more and more.
Same here
I like this album a lot more than I used to, it's actually a comfortable number 5 spot for me on favorite albums by them. The only problem I have with anymore is that the songs go on for too long, at least most of them.
This album is a little lower on mine but people go crazy when I say Load is better than MOP
@@louisianaball I agree with that. Imo I think Load is better than MoP.
@@CentraxStudiosno fcking way

One of my FAVORITE songs of all time. So good!
Makes me ponder my mistakes.
carroll tuton this song saved my life...
Makes me think about doing hallucinagens, with people . I saw a train coming at me , and they thought there was a crowd in the room, that wasn't even there. Haha wtf
Quit the knife months ago, yet I still have to swallow that bitter pill with a sweet chaser in order to feel right. Will I ever be sane again?
***** Wow, rude.
***** Nothing.
sanity may be elusive but it is possible! just keep fighting!

I understand your point people do need to get real help. but I think what he said was relevant because he was just saying he could relate to the lyrics. he said he stopped so he probably is working on his problems. recovery is a long slow process and it gets frustrating at times. it is hard not to "attention seek" a little when you feel like compete shit and talking helps. listening to metal is therapeutic and the metal community as a whole is normally supportive.
theduke ofweasels Update: I have moved a lot since this comment, I am not on pills anymore. Now to work on becoming a functioning and contributing member of society again.
Worst to best Metallica albums
I love them all
Man if only you knew just how rare it is to hear that. So many are those master of puppets 80s metallica metal elitists. It's awesome to see somebody who appreciates them as not just a rock/metal band but as musicians.
Luv 'Em All
The second guitar in the introduction, the clean distortion is so powerful.
I don't get why this album gets so much hate. I honestly think this and Black are their best albums, and this is obviously the best song on this album.
Maybe because St. Anger is a little more grungy more than the usual stuff they play. I like it though, too :)
The what about Master of Puppets
Zenedar Then why do "Load", "ReLoad", and "Metallica: The Black Album" get some much hate?
Load", "ReLoad", and "Metallica: The Black Album" don't get so much hate
Sean Slawson They get more hate than "Kill 'Em All", "Ride The Lightning", "Master Of Puppets" and "And Justice For All...", but less hate than "St. Anger".
fighting chrons disease being hospitalized for a year i felt like this song describes what i went through completely i takes me away it's inside me and kills me making me die a little more
I find this better than ''real'' Metallica ballads like ''One'' and ''Fade to Black''. Fuck me right?
mandoge Nope. One and Fade To Black may be more liked, but this one is the most powerful and strong to me.
Also, no. Don't fuck you. I agree with your opinion.
Don't know... I love this and Unforgiven equaly, and like One and Fade to black a little less... still just my opinion
Many people consider this song (me included) to be the best on St. Anger and it shows. I reckon they're all on par as their ballads always have a depressing or dark undertone to it and this is no exception.
this song is just great after work
i have been playing this song all day long, it's truly something else...
Personally, I think this is their best song.
I understand that people have their opinions about this album and in some ways i do get why. But for me this is a very important album in my life. Its an album that didn't give a damn about production quality or fan service. It's honest, unchained, and very pissed off. It's a representation of everything they we're going through at the time. It's an album that is very vulnerable and shows the human side of metallica. It came to me when i needed it the most and still today speaks volumes to me. Especially this song in particular. It really opened my eyes and showed me just what i was going through and how scary those unkown feelings can be. But it also had a very positive type of aggression and a very impactful message for me. James in particular suffered from alot of depression and anxiety as well as certain addictions. Issues that almost costed him his family, his band, and if some of those issues would have persisted maybe even his life. If it wasn't for Phil Metallica might have ceased to exist. This album alone spoke to me on so many levels more than any "band" ever has. This song has brought me to tears many times as well. So have your opinions people because this album is in my top 3 metallica albums and even my top five music albums period. Thank you metallica for always being there for me when i needed you the most. You guys will always be my all time favorite band.
this song needs a guitar solo
No it needs a banjo solo
+ODST Nelson actuallly that's a good idea, and im serious
Omar Mahfouz Listen to the 2007 remix.
Omar Mahfouz but the bridge is so powerful and aggressive I feel like a solo would take away from that
Can feel a lot of pain from his past in these lyrics.
lol this is my favorite metallica album and nobody will ever change my opinion. my reasoning is this album isnt a showoff lightning fast riffs solos crazy sections whatever, this is the only album apart from the great southern trendkill album that ive ever heard that sounds like every artist is genuinely venting to their craft. god damn i love music especially metal
A true diamond in the rough this track... Awesome.. Lyrically impressive too.. 😎👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎸
i never heard this song before, I fucking love it! it sounds a lot like godsmack
I'm new to Metallica, and honestly love this song.. Are there any others like it? Doesn't have to be Metallica.. Just has to have the same kinda' feel or rhythm to it.
St.Anger, The Day That Never Comes, Trapped Under Ice, Eye Of The Beholder...Now That We're Dead, Halo On Fire, Of Wolf and Man, The Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, Torn Within, Until It Sleeps, My World, All Within My Hands, Cyanide, No Remorse, Seek and Destroy.. Disposable Heroes, Orion.. Leper Messiah..all by metallica
@@Celatra I'd add Fixxxer to that list. It's by far my favourite melancholic Metallica's song.
@@reca2489 forgot about Fixxxer
a lot of supportive Metallica fans here, this is good, but i don't think St. Anger was that great. it had a lot of bad directional decisions from my perspective. overtly long songs with excessive repetition, stupid bridge sections in half the songs, no solos (which if the songs were 1-4 minutes shorter i would care less about this).
the tone of the drums were garbage, to the point where i would even take the synthetic 808 snare over this (fun fact: i hate the 808 snare too). i'm also not big on James Hetfield's voice anymore, time has not been favorable to him.
i still think Frantic, Sweet Amber, and Unnamed Feeling were of the better songs of this album, but so many other songs just could have been better. like, what were they trying to even do with this album?
a lot of people speculated they were trying to capture the nu-metal/alt-metal scene and stay relevant. and if this is the case, well they didn't quite do the best job. it was amusing for a while, but this album as a whole does not stand the test of time.
but then again, i am not the sole arbiter of music or anything, and if people liked this album, then wonderful, but i feel like it's forgettable for the most part, kinda like Lulu.
Was this the start of Djent?

6:19 yeah yeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
6:36 YEAH
I'm a fan of all of Metallica's stuff and I honestly think this is James' best vocal work.
I love all the songs on the Saint Anger Album. Don't give a fuc* what the other people say.
The Unnamed feeling, Some kind of monster, Dirty Window, dude... this songs are amazing
Is the unnamed feeling self-destruction?
Not really, its referred to as something between depression and anxiety
I think it is whatever feeling is hurting a person. it could be anger or guilt or despair or a bunch of things, it is different for everyone. I think it is "unnamed" because when mental illness has you even you can't understand your thoughts or feelings! like that miserably feeling of something being very wrong but not knowing why you feel like complete shit!
Any feeling you don't like but you have
fax434t
The Unnamed Feeling is the torment and misery in one's mind that can't be properly diagnosed or treated. The inflicted is all alone with their mind torturing them.
In this case it led to suicide on rail line and the Unnamed Feeling is a metaphor for a train.
"Toes are over the line. Then the Unnamed Feeling takes me away."
PhantomFilmAustralia
you're nitpicking. "GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY HEAD" is not a train.
No this song was written while James was on rehab, and was going through alot of panic attacks and mental illnesses in general, such as anger problems, sobriety issues, etc. The Unnamed feeling is that feeling that just comes wherever you all, takes away your sense of reality, controls you and you just simply loose your mind. Either in a passive or active way, depending on what it is. For James it might had been anxiety that went in par with depression and anger.
But really, the Unnamed Feeling can be really anything that changes your perception of reality.
"I cross my heart, hope not to die
Swallow evil, ride the sky
"I loose myself in a crowded room.
You fool, you fool, I will be there soon"
This is basically a straightforward description of how anxiety/ panic attacks can strike you right at any moment, for example while being in a public place, and you just feel like you're about to die.
Anxiety can very well and often lead to suicidal thoughts, if it's long lasting. I constantly suffer from this to this day, luckily I haven't been suicidal for about 3 months now.
Nu Metallica The unnamed feeling Drop A tuning.
Selling your soul was not a joke. In every story I've heard, they did it young and ignorant. And the emptiness eats them alive and they come to second thought. When you have followers and you courage them to do it also, the sin gains massive proportions.
the concept behind this album is great, that's why i love it!!
2:46 frantic tick tick tick tick tick tock
Yo lo considero una de las más under de Metallica, si bien le hacen sus arreglos de la batería y algún solo, y puedo apostar que esta canción queda, la letra es la más triste después de Fade To Black y Low Man Lyrics.
Hey guys, do me a solid, give me a short list of songs similar to the meaning of this song.
Why i feel this lyrics so profound?! Can someone please tell me why?!
this album like some others I had to listen to it a few times. my son tells me that I will like whatever they do, but this one was tough, I felt bad for Rob I mean he must have been so stocked to be in Metallica and this is what they do. But my son shocked me he thought it was kickass what was cooi about this album it had two CDs 1 the album the other them playing the songs
This song kicks so much ass specially when you are in 3rd day of withdrawl
Im metallica fan since about year... When I first time heard about st anger and that its worst album of metallica I thought it's not worth to listen but few weeks ago i heard first time "Frantic" And i said that "hmmm this song isnt bad" Now i know every song from st anger and I have one question... Why this is called worst album? This is amazing for example unnamed feeling
st. anger album saved my life when dad die in 1999,and 2003 is coming for me,thanks, metallica. youre my hero.
Okay let's clear the air... Bob Rock should have had his ears👂👂 boxed🎁🎁 for allowing.... whatever you call it..... starting at 4:56 😟😟😟😢😢😢😲😲😲.... 🙉🙉🙉
Everyone saying this song “healed you” is full of shit, it’s called logic, having a taste of music you like playing whilst having an anxiety/panic attack as well as having relatable lyrics would of course make you calm down, stop acting like you just performed a self miracle
I think the drums kind of hurt this song but everything else especially the lyrics are really powerful and underrated.
The more you hear st anger the less the snare sounds bad. Tbh I like the sound since a long time. Started with purify for some reason
I'm 30 and have been a fan since I was 11 my uncle bought me kill em all "cool uncle"for my birthday and I've loved everything they've done since...
Well, Death Magnetic's pretty good. That's their newest album, but if you think St. Anger is the worst album, you haven't listened to Lulu. It's atrocious.
+Diego's Swagity Account “Metal for life” I let them slide and don't count that in their discography just because that one was a mess on both parts
pero sin dudas lo mejor de metallica esta en los 80
This is the only good song on the album.
Frantic...Purify....Invisible Kid.... St.Anger.. All Within My Hands...
Myth Does Everything You can have your opinion, but I disagree.
This song works like a therapy.
I feel this so much
Its sounds to me like panic attacks, which been a big part of my life, i'm feeling this song too much.
Realmente no necesita un solo la cancion es un poco triste y melancolica pero bastante buena. Lo de arreglo de la bateria tienes bastante razon, pero si no seria en todo el album.
This is the ultimate rage so hard you feel like anew person at the end of it. Ypu have no fucking idea why
Even if i agree that st anger is not a good album i have to say i fucking love this song!!!!
4:56 - 5:25 definitely the most powerful part
Easily the best song in the entire album.
James voice on this one...man..unbelievable...
0:41-1:14 I really like the grove in that section. Wish the rest of the song past 1:14 had that grove still.
At 5:00 James Hetfield hits puberty
When I heard that that first been here before I hated it but then the real lyrics started and not I kinda like it
Korn - the unnamed felling its the cover that doesnt exist but it should....
Underrated album, all Metallica albums are awesome, one of the best of the album, probably number 3 behind st anger and frantic.
Love this song so much... Soo deep ❤️
