ok Nintendo fans we can't let this game flop. this series is easily up there with final fantasy, pokemon, xenoblade and shin megami tensei when it comes to quality but has never gotten the same following in the states
i waited over 5 years for this to be released I want it!
I mean it's pretty well known here too. Dragon Quest Heroes was amazing and it's getting a sequel. It's basically a JRPG too. Can't wait for this in September!
Let's do it!
I prefer Pokemon quality over this, if you ask me my answer would be that it's not even close
Josh Teixeira dq heroes 2 looks great but sadly they haven't said anything about localization
They just described every JRPG ever.
Yup, this series was the predecessor of every JRPG ever
Yup except the monsters roaming the field part since that isnt in all JRPGs and not even in the original version of this game
+gamerprince1999 I actually love this because of that too
_Paper Mario: Color Splash_ is faring better in terms of advertising...
That's just depressing.
Dragon Quest in not revolutionary, it's just a game that does what everyone else does, but tons of times better.
Mmm, delicious classic JRPG goodness, and from the granddaddy of them all, no less... I bought my 3DS for this game. I'm so happy we're finally getting it.
Can't wait to see what's censored!
I'm more concerned about unnecessarily added accents. They're definitely going to be added since Nintendo is doing the localization.
SE is handling the localization, so Nintendo's censorship isn't anywhere near this. They provide staff for PR and co-ordination/print/sales.
SE handles all of the rest of the work. It's how they've handled each and every DQ localization where Nintendo produced.
They probably already took out the bunny girls. Nothing they do can hurt me anymore.
*****
That's idiotic. They took out no bunny girls in DQ's 6 or 9. Nintendo does not handle DQ localizations, period. SE handles them. Always has, and always will. This was reconfirmed in the e3 showcasing. It has to do with SE not owning DQ by any stretch. It's owned by 5 individual parties, and Horii, the creator, was pretty hands on with the localization process in the early days. He's very much into stylistic representation of his work, ala Plus Alpha's approach, but very against censoring his content. Nintendo cannot compromise this by dealing with SE, so SE handles it, Nintendo co-ordinates and does promo work alongside SE (check the credits, SE is equally involved in marketing decisions), and the rest is history.
GrimangelX4
Just look at the credits to 6 and 9. 9 was handled by Plus Alpha, who was initially SE's picks for all their DQ releases. Plus Alpha also started work on 6, but SE had cancelled it (same time 6 was in progress was the time SE was aware of their FF14 losses for the initial release of that game, and prior to the quarterly report by several months, so 6 was canned for the shortrun).
When Nintendo took up 9, Plus Alpha was already underway, and nothing was altered. When they took up 6 though, while 8-4 was picked, this was due to Plus Alpha taking up another job in the interim while SE was deciding whether to can it or let Nintendo take up the role. Whatever the case, in the credits, all localization teams working with 8-4 are SE's, despite work only restarting after Nintendo took up the job of producing.
There's also the fact that all copyright are split between Armor Project (Yuji Horii's studio), SE (title and franchise rights, and because they pay for it), Bird Studio (Akira Toriyama's studio), Koichi Sugiyama (he copyrights to his own name), and whatever the game system developer is.
Then there's the statements made by the SE producers on the e3 floor, about how SE worked with and handled the localization, then went off on the 400-something monsters present in the game, and how many names had to be created for it.
There's also the fact that since the merger, SE has used a giant database for Dragon Quest, created by the man responsible for handling each localization team, I have to find his name again, but essentially everything has fixed names and terminology they like to keep sacrosanct and consistent between each game. So it makes it a lot easier if it's SE handling that bit of work.
Plus DQ themes are written so as to allow children to play them, and adults to grasp the nuance in the language and suggestive elements present in the storyline. It's like this in Japan, as well as each localization. Plus, based on the description given by the ESRB, virtually the whole DQ core fanbase, at least those who meet up on Dragon's Den, are collectively sighing in relief that the text will retain its darker tones, but lighthearted approach to telling the tale.
So I don't expect even remote censorship. Plus Treehouse doesn't do accents well, but everything about the text, in every video thus far released, speaks to Plus Alpha as the localization team. Treehouse does not have any history of using the Queen's English, or using any format of British grammatical rules. Plus Alpha, on the other hand, is a British localization team. So given them, it just further assures the themes will be intact, censorship will not be present, but we will have to deal with...puns. Lots and lots of puns. More puns than are present in the original text, which has quite a number. Much more, especially in naming schemes.
For instance, there's the PSX Loomin. In the original Japanese, that's the name sounded out in English. It's an english derivative word and a pun all on its own, because of the "looming" threats. It's a town you have to return to several times over. I won't give anymore away, but we already know the 3DS it's called nottagen (sound that out with gen as literally as it would be, not as in jen like with genetics).
Thumbs up if DQ IX is one your favorite DS games!
Yass I love that game!!
I freaking love that game!
It's definitely up there for me! I hope it could possibly get a remake so we can access the DLC again without cheat codes. ;3; The quest about Stellestria haunts me to this day. And the one with the ghost Yggdrasil.
Haven't played any of the games, but the *Dragon Quest anime (Dai no Daibouken) is my SECOND ALL TIME FAVORITE ANIME* which I believe is based on DQ 3. :]
dragon quest 9 is probs my 6th favourite in the series
New monster name confirmed: Wooden Horseman
Were they not in any Dragon Quest Monsters game since the revamped namings after VIII on the PS2? :j
YoungLeosword Sadly no, the only ones where it could have had a new english name was in DQM Super Light, but it's not available yet.
This is not entirely related: I found the name of Robbin' Hood's Hideout in Fortune Street is called Kandaa Something-Or-Other in its Japanese name. While III's Kandar hasn't made any significant re-appearance, I've begun to suspect Kandar and Robbin' Hood are the same monster. In DQMJ, Robbin' Hood is A-ranked or S-ranked (don't remember) probably due to his connection to the very significant game which stars Erdrick, and Robbin' Hood has appeared in a number of other games including DQMJ as aforementioned and V in a side quest.
I'm sure this was confirmed a long time ago, but the DQ Wikia is extremely disorganized. XD
whats up Frostare :) love your channel
slime time! Thanks!
I only remember Slime from his appearance in Mario Sports Mix.
Exactly! The Slime is a veteran charismatic character that needs to be remembered more of its original series.
if only I could play sports mix online again (I was legendary)
ah someone else also remembers that game
I lost this game a few years back. The game scarred me for life as the bosses were terrifying and extremely difficult to beat.
How do you manage to select each attack per character i cant do it in my game. Also i cant see their new equipment while they're walking
That Dragon Slash at 1:05 looked sick.
really looking forward to this, I'm glad we've got some more DQ with VIII being pushed into next year!
LOL, they're making the battle system out to be WAY more complicated than it is. XD I love the battles, though! :D
it disserves a explaination, because gamers are used to FF style battling.
😆
because mp is just as scarce in this game than in any other, it's literally attack attack attack attack/heal
Top notch graphics
can't wait. I love dragon quest
Looks good can't wait to play this all winter.
thanks for giving us insight in a battle system that's literally older than I am.
Yeah, Dragon Quest has been around since 1986.
anyone know if we have to do a lot of grinding in this game?
This looks so awesome
Very very Nice! I love Dragon Quest, and i'm happy, that DQ VII will come on 16.9.2016. :D
and we are getting DQ 8 3ds as well next year.
September? Damn it I don't feel like waiting that long.
Imagine how I felt when waiting for Fates!
+Logan thats nothing compared to waiting for a game that has yet to be announced for the states, unfortuntaly thats how most dragon quest games are...
Europe is getting this for the First Time no PS1 version in Europe ! imagine how they feel.
I need this game in my life!
This isn't another JRPG. This is THE JRPG! I can't wait to get my hands on this!
0:40
Sooooo, how do I acquire one of these spinning Slime tops?
Lawson grocery store has them, but Japan only.
Heh, that's how Slimes call other Slimes.
DQ8 on PS2 FTW!! As a matter of fact, I'm going to start playing it again and pass it before summer is over!
I can't wait to play it when it comes out on 3DS!
I kind of want to try this one out, really... It would be my first Dragon Quest too.
Go for it. Its a very time consuming game so u get your moneys worth
If this is your first, it will be a great first one! =)
Really? This one is LONG.
Same!
Mine was Sentinals of the Stary Sky. I loved it. T his looks similar.
my god this game looks beautiful
*tears of happiness have been shed*
I can't wait for this game! Im gonna have a blast once it comes out.
Easily my most favourite DQ ever! Played it on PS1, it took me a long time to finish this game. The world is huge, alive and interesting. The only DQ I replayed over and over again along with DQ6. The class is exciting. I love the side quests. The character is believable.
The only puzzling thing (heh) is you will need to find puzzle pieces to complete the map and progress the story. I remember being stuck for almost a month trying to find the missing puzzle pieces lol.
this time you will be able to SHARE tablets with others VIA streetpass, then you can play remixed dungons you've completed. extends this game further.
Oh God I love Dragon Quest way too much ;3;
DQ 9 was awesome, I cried when Greynarl the Dragon died protecting the village.
Thank you Nintendo !
Just let me buy this already!
Is there character creation? Like in sentinels of the starry skies?
No, the characters change appearance depending on their vocation, however.
No these characters were already set with their own story
That was my problem with DQIX. No set party member for the story. I was okay with the creating your own MC but the create party or team up with other killed it for me.
In every Dragon Quest, you can your player character, like in Zelda. You can't customize their skin color or other physical attributes in most of them, though.
That was my main issue with IX as well. Still love the game, but it could have used story based support characters.
I am really glad to see that they are finally releasing this gem in the West. Dragon Quest here is quite an underrated series, yet few RPGs come close to its charm and style, both in gameplay and storyline departments.
DQ should have been SE main franchise instead of FF.
I agree, but unfortunately DQ never managed to catch up like FF. Maybe it was partially because for most of its history DQ was under the Enix company, while Square Soft being a stronger company managed to better sell FF to the international audience. Glad to see that DQ XI is returning back to main port route like DQ VIII was finally after two games.
LightFykki yup and yup.
Already made my pre-order.
My first DQ game was 'Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the starry skies '
mine was dragon warrior 1&2 for GBC
+slime time! The first Dragon Warrior game I ever saw was Dragon Warrior Monsters, but the first one I bought was Dragon Warrior 1 and 2, and then I got Dragon Warrior 7 and fell in love with the series forever.
I need this game
So exited!!!
Can't wait
Thanks for telling us how to play every single JRPG out there Nintendo...
Looking forward to September!
we are getting another DQ games this year as well, DQ8 comes out late this year.
Mark Plott I know, which I'm also looking forward to!
can't wait
I will be playing Dragon quest 7 3ds tomorrow at GameStop SF 1 - 4 pm , see you there.
I already Pre-Order this game. I can't wait to get Part 8 on Nintendo 3DS.
its a good year for dragon quest.
This game + limited edition new 3ds xl would be awesome.
ive only ever played dragon quest 1 and 2. i need to catch up on this series
DQ 4 - 6 and 9 still available as DS carts, they are cheap too.
The only radical changes so far are the elimination of random encounters starting in DQ9 and the multiplayer elements in DQ9.
Man, Brock from Pokemon sure likes Dragon Quest!
What happened to the Splatoon video they just took down
The Splatfest Splashback?
Didn't they re-upload it?
its gonna launch on my birthday
What happened to the Splatoon video?
Fantastico❤️🇮🇹
I still have my PS1 copy. Oh well, playing wherever I want is better anyway ! That's a buy for me !
The enemies merging sounds neat but I feel like it's only going to happen with Slimes...
1:22 Ohh… That was the last update logo of Nintendo (2016 - today). I guess the last modified was… >July 27, 2016
I don't play much Dragon Quest games...though, I am still at the beginning of Dragon Quest VIII. =s
Can you bring me either a console DQ9 or another Monster Joker?
The gameplay is probably really good but the graphics kinda have me down. Anyone else agree?
That's Dragon Quest for ya. They all have a cartoony style
It's not Dragon Quest IX but it's got the nice ArtePiazza touch.
DQ 7 3ds was in japan for 3 years, before new 3DS was a thing.
I know Johnny and Kim from Happy Console Gamer will be happy
Yeah, give this one a try too. It's simple, yet well-done.
***** yeah I know I bought the PS one version last year and I'm excited for the 3ds version I waited over 5 years for it.
ladynikkie Cool, I believe this has less backtracking than the PSX version
***** I hope so also I can't wait for DQ8 that's my favorite one, they made some major improvements as well as playing as Red and Morrie
"Enemies walk with unique patterns." (shows enemy walking into wall)
Which one does that? I tried to find it.
green lizard with a sword at around 33 seconds in, in the open field
Oh, the Choppy Hopper? I think he's just moving slowly, since the tree is in the background I don't think he's running into it. If this is like DQIX, I think that will only happen if the enemy chases you.
+Frostare might be, still not the best of clips to use lol
Gabe Griffin Yeah but if the enemy chases you, you'd really want the monsters to run into walls.
Still looking forward to the game, but can we get a reason why the western release removed the orchestral soundtrack that was in the Japanese release? I
rumor has it that its licensing with Koichi Sugiyama. Ive sent emails through youtube on Nintendo channel, no response yet, called Nintendo call center to voice my displeasure as well.
Dragon Quest 7 3ds will be playable at PAX west Sept 2 - 5th.
the reason of the new hiatus in HunterxHunter.
I want an Dragon Quest IX remake. Nowwwwww!!!!;)
Invest in this game like crazy so that Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 gets a North American release
Why are the graphics older looking? Is this a remake or something? Still gonna buy it but I'm just wondering.
Yea its the remake of a game released in 2001 on the PS1 :D
+ZedMania great thanks for the info :D
all of you wrong. the reason is it was in Japan for 3 years before it came here, they only had the regular 3DS at the time. so this is a direct port of the 2013 version with some minor localization and translation.
+Mark Plott Zedmania wasnt wrong, it is a remake of a 2001 ps1 game.
Aaron Jessee but, its not the reason. Japanese version is identical. except translations. Graphics are the same, 3DS version 1 quality. DQ8 3ds will be more advanced as the new 3DS came out when Japan got new 3DS.
i love how they act like basic rpg elements makes it a really strategically deep game
good for you...
U mad?
+GrimangelX4 "points less" that really looks like anger writing or you don't know the word "pointless" too well.
nintendo please bring Rocket Slime 3 to america
yessss
ah man I remember that game
Also, DQM: Joker 3, maybe? That would be just swell.
The only reason i'm interested in this is because DQ9 showed me a good time.
As much as I want this, Megami Tensei Apocalypse is a priority, oh well, I guess I'll get it later
I wonder if Dragon Quest VIII on 3DS is still coming out this year. I feel like if not this year, then probably early next year
it got pushed to 2017 . Thanks for being a fan of the series :)
Slime time that is only confirmed for the uk version.
It was originally scheduled for late this year, pushed back to early next year to give DQ 7 3ds breathing room and there a lot of 3DS games coming out between now and Christmas. then there is the NES mini in November and the NX launch in March 2017.
Can we have Dragon Quest Monster Joker 3 PLEEEASE?!?!?! I loved the first 2. We need the third!!!
Oh so we're just going to forget about that Splatfest video Nintendo took down for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON AT ALL!?
Nope, never! BTW this game was the game of 2016 for me.
Glenside the best of luck to you and your team is a great way and
My DQ favorito is Monster Joker.
SE should localize DQM2 cobi & tera quest DS and DQM Terry wonderland 3ds.
Is this Wii U or 3ds
WiiU is Dead the last RPG to come to the WiiU will be Zelda Breath of the Wild. You will have to wait for Dragon Quest XI on the Switch. however I have DQ7 3DS and its absolutely beautiful, even the 3D is exseptionally good.
Is there a monster arena in this game like there was in DQ8?
I don't think so. but, you can level up and become Monster class, for EX Melvin the Knight can become a slime....lots of fun. I don't think you can recruit monster to your party like other DQ.
Well, only two DQ's have a monster arena. DQ6 started it with the Slime Arena. DQ8 brought it back with that mechanic.
DQ5 is the first DQ to allow monster recruits in the party, and DQ6 continued this to a much lesser extent. DQ7 takes that concept and instead of as party members, you get hearts, which you use to turn into a monster class (33 in all, which continues the monster classes of DQ6, of which there were 2). It's fun because you actually become the monsters on screen.
However, you do have the monster park, where you recruit monsters to join the park. From there the remake added in the Lithograph system, called Traveler's Tablets in this localization. When they're first made available, there are story offered tablets that give you access to precrafted dungeons. Even ones that SE had released via corporate sponsorship through a tag mode in particular restaurants and businesses using their wifi. However we're supposedly getting them, just unsure if it'll be on cart of they'll do a dlc package. Now later on when the monster park opens up in full, you'll be able to create your own traveler's tablets, where you get to pick between 1 and I forget how many of the monsters you've recruited for the park, and set the level which affects the boss. The boss is an uber version of the first monster picked.
The fun of this is you can farm more hearts, gold, exp, even job/vocation classes, and even special items by picking a single monster or a group of particular monsters. Or pick some of the hardest normal in-game monsters and have an uber boss version of them that puts up one heck of a challenge.
Different, but it's own thing.
DQ7 also has a fun mini-game in casinos called Lucky Panel, which is VERY addicting, and can net some fantastic equipment, items, and even monster hearts earlier than normal. Heck you can even make tons of gold by exploiting it.
DQ7 also has a tombola game, where you spin a wheel and have a random ball pop out, and the prizes are pretty cool in this version. One of them doubles exp/gold/job points. Another is a fun accessory that lets you gain 2 exp per step. There are a few other really useful items.
DQ7 also has a township that lets you build up a town over time by recruiting NPCs to join it over the course of the story.
DQ7 3ds has a immigrant town - you look for NPC in the game to recruit them. more you collect bigger town gets, similar to Hoffmans place in DQ 4. there is also a Casino in this Dragon Quest. And World Ranking Association, similar to Best Dressed Contest in DQ 6. mini metal king in in this Dragon Quest. MONSTER Park, is in DQ 7 3ds. its a DQ monsters mini game !!!! there will be bonus Dungeon's as well.
Alexander Langella looks like there is a Monster Park in DQ 7 3ds !!! its a dragon quest monsters mini game !!!!!!
uh...why did you remove the video called splatoon splashback???
want it
dang, i really wanted dragon quest 9, but this is fine too :)
*remake of dragon quest 9
y tho
its my favorite dragon quest game
+Numair Javaid it doesn't really need a remake but yeah it would be cool
its kinda redundant as its in 3D but not lenticular. but, SE may get around to it one day.
That thumbnail tho
just waiting for a DQ 9 remake....
Okay, we DO NOT want this game to flop! Square enix thinks dragon quest is dead, but if we Nintendo fans work together and MAKE THIS GAME A SUCCESS, we might get more dragon quest. If no one sees this comment... Rest in peace dragon quest. You will be missed. By me. Maybe not people who don't know about you.
I totally agree. we should not rest until all the main line and the secondary titles are localized for America. I recently signed a petition on change.org to localize dragon quest 11. just because japan releases a DQ game does not mean we automatically get it ported to American consoles.
I want slimequest. :(
I know this unrelated but can we please get Pokemon stadium on virtual console, Nintendo???
Should I get this game? if I'm new to the dragon Quest series? looks pretty interesting.
absolutely, its worth a try. but, only if you like turn based gameplay. unlike Final fantasy , in Dragon Quest you wait full turns to strike an enemy, and hits from the enemy. the game is more story driven. so, you wont advance unless you complete favors requested by NPC. there is a grinding aspect too, but that cam be minimized by hunting metal slimes. get this one first, then try the others in the series.
+Mark Plott I like RPGs so I might give it a try.
This is a better way to start the series than DQI and DQII.
DQIII, DQIV, DQVIII and DQIX are also great starts.
the USA version support spanish ? :(
¡¡¡Si!!! Bueno, Dragon Quest IV, V, VI para DS, VIII, IX, Joker 1 y Joker 2 estaban en español en Latinoamérica así que no veo porqué éste no.
+Frostare :') lo se pero temía que no
I only clicked because i saw slime
capcom quest: Thomas's uprising
What is that giant water drop thing in the thumbnail?
Slime.
King Slime
why did you guys erased the splatfest memories video? 😐
+robbie s :0 you might be right
+robbie s Or they didn't want to make us cry.
I've only watched the European version, and there they forgot the Callie vs. Maries Splatfest. Maybe that has something to do with it.
+Kübel350 Maybe. But I don't think it means that they are going to continue splatfests. They already said that the Callie vs Marie was going to be last one. And if you look at Nintendo of Japan's and Nintendo of Europe's RUclips channel they have their own versions of the video and they didn't take it down.
Because it was copyright claimed by Nintendo
Splatfest splash back anyone else get that notification but can't watch it
I really appreciate the videos and all, but please balance your audio a bit better. Lower the volume of the music or something pls
12th!!!!
Can this be my 1st Dragon Quest game? I don't know the lore of the series at all.
Yup
best series ever . im a addicted
yes, must order and play.
Dragon Quests 1 through 3 are connected, as are 4 through 6, but 7, I think, is self-contained. Last I checked it was also pretty beefy, even by Dragon Quest standards.
However, you do no have to play them in order. each game is its own world and is self contained. you can pick and choose which adventure you want to go on. for details visit Wikipedia for game description.
I thought the guy was going to say the enemy would flee from you as well :(
Well... sometimes they do that. Specially Metal Slimes.
+Frostare
Veitnam flashbacks of landing 2 hits on a metal slime only for it to run away.
A metal slime nears...........Attack, magic, defend or flee......Attack.....the metal slime runs away...........
when you finally get the sands of time it makes it much easier to kill them
Oh I hope this game has the Sands of Time.
hmm you know speaking of dragon quest I always wanted to try slime curry shame its a Japan only thing thought...
Luida's Bar in Rippongi right ?
Mark Plott um I think so I don't even know what they even are?
MC. Gemstone I only know of the one in Rippongi Tokyo. its a small bar with a few tables and bar stools, they also have a karaoke box. the make freshly made lunch and dinner items that are Dragon Quest themed. do you tube search - Luida's bar dragon quest to see video filmed there.
Mark Plott ah okay thanks ^^
Screw "Ruff", he will always be Gabo to me.
I believe you can still change his name at the Alltrades Abbey
Go early sqaud!
+josselino lopesneves im 9
it looks like a midevil dragonball
Yeah and the gameplay is really great if you enjoy games like pokémon or Earthbound.
Where is the splatoon memorial video😞
