the song "war pigs" is also clearly anti-war, which can't be satanic because satan went to war with god, loves death and killing ect.
Neither of those songs is satanic, in fact War Pigs says Satan laughs watching humans kill each other, which means that Satan isn't a good guy.

Abusive parents were those who jump on the "satanic bandwagon" for first. The more abusive parents were, the more they hated this music. I can't explain why, but that's the what happened.

That's exactly what happened to me. Two decades later, and I am still Metal.
I'm a person that grew up with Hip Hop and R&B. Decided to try something different because Hip Hop and R&B got stale to me (this was in the early to mid 2010s for me). Decided to look up Metal and went old school and found Black Sabbath. They are dope af. Then found out about Thrash Metal and the Big Four (my faves are Slayer and Megadeth). Later i stumbled across Doom Metal and it's my fave kind of Metal.

it's not for nothing the both War Pigs by Black Sabbath and B.Y.O.B. by System of a Down have a nearly identical lyric about the poor being the ones fighting the wars for politicians - who more than rarely happen to be rich

Heavy Metal, Jazz, Rap or even my biz Videogames always vilified by those that don't understand it and don't want to understand it. The real supervillain are the people peddling these boogymen narratives, looking for a magic bullet to "save everyone".

I remember the 80s and please don't scare me like that.
So called "true metaheads" mostly focus on 80s metal and often in its cliches. They thus tend to exclude 2000s and later metalcore from "true metal"
Don't forget the guitar tuning. The tuning that Sabbath used was because Tony hurt his finger tips while working, and the down tuning was easier on his finger tips.
On the first two Sabbath albums, Tony tuned to E standard, but he used super-light strings, which gave the feel of down tuning (lower string tension = fatter mids, looser bass; higher tension = more scoop & 'chunk').
I think the early Metal (ie: Sabbath) was a stroke of marketing genius. What demographic was spending the money albums, concerts & merch? ... Teenagers. Adolescents. There's a lot of anger flowing through those Middle & High School hallways. Remember 8th Grade? Cue Adolescent Rebellion, spearheaded by none other than General Angst himself.
As Americans, you have missed that early heavy metal came out of the grim, industrial and poor areas of Britain’s midlands. Gloomy weather and pollution. This played a huge part of the sound.

Oh this is my entire dang childhood...! I grew up with Iron Maiden and Judas Priest always on my mother's stereo, she and my stepfather adored a lot of the classic metal and hard rock bands. I still adore Blue Oyster Cult, there must be at least ten Ozzy songs on my regular playlist, and I've had the pleasure of seeing Judas Priest live - and I was age ten at the time! The Satanic Panic was such a huge influence on so much of my young life. My mother not only listened to "the Devil's music," she played Dungeons and Dragons (gasp!). I look back now and wonder how I managed to remain mostly oblivious to the tension throughout those years - it was in the schools, in my grandma's church, on the radio, on the TV, the fear and the propaganda were EVERYWHERE. And I was just boppin' along, listening to whatever I wanted, whether that was Mozart or Motorhead or Puccini or Poison. (Yes: I was one of those kids that loved hair metal, unironically!)
I've also gotten to meet a few local musicians who did darker metal (I don't think they called themselves death metal), and they were some of the nicest dudes ever. Some of the "worst" groups do some of the most wonderful community work outside of their performances, because they are people who think deeply, care deeply, and really commit to what they actually believe in. Even the "shock rock" folks like Ozzy - those lyrics aren't Satanic!!! You could absolutely make a case for "War Pigs" being a straight-up hard core interpretation of the Bible, it's basically Revelations, dressed up in some badass riffs and fabulous social commentary. And one of my very favorite Ozzy lyrics - "Don't ask ME, I don't know!!" Absolutely something I started quoting at my own mother when we disagreed about difficult subjects. She tended to start laughing too much to carry on an argument then, haha!
This REALLY does an excellent job covering the topic without granting too much weight to the Panic, and yet also without leaning too much in favor of metal itself. Very balanced, which is hard to do, since heavy metal is a bit like opera - you either love it or you hate it (or so they say).
I could go on for ages and ages about specific groups, albums, and songs, and how they shaped the ways that I create art today and the way I see the world, but I won't, haha.

I get that this is supposed to be kind of an introduction to the topic for outsiders, which it excels at, but, at least nowadays, this topic is way more complicated.
Metal is one of the most diverse, subgenre-filled rabbit holes one can get into musically, and any kind of satanic presence broadly fluctuates between them. On one side of the spectrum, yeah, black/death/doom metal probably contain the most, but there's also progressive/post/sludge metal that will contain far less in general. I think it's also fair to say that, in a modern context, "heavy metal" is now considered its own subgenre of the largest umbrella term "metal", at least within the community.
But yeah, neat video!

I was skeptical of this doc until they mentioned Mercyful Fate, that's worth some credit.
First band I was ever in was with Impaler's Bill Lindsey and he is as kind and funny and insightful as he appears here.

If you know the feeling of pent up rage from not fitting in or being rejected, trying to find belonging that comes with a toxic/neglectful upbringing, the chemical cocktail that comes from puberty, and any further adverse conditions or events that might befall you, as well as shitty expectations, then you might understand how the sounds of gritty, overdriven guitars and thundering, crashing rhythm section, all within minor keys might give certain people a structured outlet for that energy to channel into. People don't like to feel like shit without quite knowing why (in some un/fortunate cases, the why eventually bubbles up). Heavy metal is the sound of stomaching and muscling through.
Any racism, psychopathy or people snapping are the aforementioned unfortunate cases that succumbed to the patriarchal expectations that has brought the aforementioned conditions.
It's art.

The story of the book that triggered it "Michelle remembers" is INSANITY! It's all from a manipulative psychotherapist author that basically guided this woman through "remembering repressed memories" that were all his crazy idea- aaaand he eventually married her🙃😒
There was also a woman that thought a twisted sister song was about bdsm, it was actually about the singer getting surgery

What's funny is that I am a convert to Islam (since late December 1990 when I had just turned 20) and I listened to heavy metal throughout my teenaged years and into my early 20s, *and* I was an avid Dungeons and Dragons player up until I was about 14. Both of these activities were seen as gateways into satanism in the satanic panic in the 1980s, when I was growing up.
I don't listen to music much anymore, and I only do so when I'm in my car going somewhere, but, when I do listen to music, I still listen primarily to hard rock, heavy metal, and grunge

*Most **_"Satan Metal"_** bands just don a costume and assume an over the top intensely crazed stage persona in order to appear edgy and dangerous, especially to those from a more reserved and religious background, but when not in "Showtime!" mode, either on stage or in front of cameras and fans, they are fairly regular down to earth people, though admittedly, some do tend to be a bit eccentric. However, some of the most legitimately for real satanic rock isn't really that heavy sound wise. Just listen to the album, **_Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls,_** by the band, **_Coven,_** led by singer Jinx Dawson. They didn't just do an act on stage, they were an actual practicing coven that happened to end up putting out some albums.* 🧐

This was a cute “primer” for non-Metalheads who just don’t get it (and maybe, don’t want to), but you ignored something really VITAL to Metal: Musicianship.
Rock, Punk, Dance, HipHop, and other popular genres don’t care much about musicianship, they want a good beat, an attitude, or even just a catchy hook, etc. Metal came FROM BLUES, HR, & JAZZ! It attracts MUSICIANS who know how to play! It’s not just about playing fast or being “Brutal”, Metal musicians are the CLASSICAL musicians of our era. We’re the only ones concerned with creating challenging Art, with utilizing polyrhythm, music theory, multiple time signatures, and other Music “nerd” stuff that most Pop music just can’t be bothered with. INCLUDING throwing it all out the window and just making great noises.
This is why it’s endured, not the “Satanism” or other jokes at U.S. Conservative Christians’ ‘pearl-clutching’ expense; It’s still with us and has only EXPANDED because it’s where REAL musicians thrive.
Thanks for not making fun of it or making it seem “immature” or “dated”.

I find it funny that you get criticize and get called a devil worshiper for listening to metal or anything secular related to. As a person that grew up with mostly rock hip-hop and throwback pop, I just find this unbelievable. Shouldn’t that mean we should criticize people for listening to Christian church music as well to even the odds?! Part of having freedom is being able to listen to whatever you want to, but I guess when it comes to religious people, they would like to criticize us and say that we worship the devil or whatever just because we listen to metal or anything that isn’t “Christian”.

There are genuine Satanists making Metal Music, but they kind of suck with a few exceptions. I think it's easier to capture the energy when you can take a step back from the source and focus on the entertainment instead of the message.
How can you talk about heavy metal and Satanism and not mention Deicide???? They glorified Satanism. The singer Glen Benton has an inverted cross carved into his forehead. One of my favorite songs by them is called "Blame It On god"....
