- SmackDown Live. To me, this was one of WWE's best runs of the past decade. I was thoroughly entertained with SmackDown Live and I was always wanting more. Guys like AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, The Miz and John Cena really made SmackDown Live must see. Probably my favorite video! I really enjoyed making this one. It was nice to go back to a time where SmackDown was the land of opportunity. What did you think of this era of SmackDown?
i like it but i had a problem. when wwe had their first ever superstar shake up that killed what made smackdown special and made raw better until 2018. the only rivalry i remember that was good was shane mcmahon vs kevin owens. when when smackdown did invade raw in 2017 it was lit. jinder was ok as wwe champion but his feud with shinsuke was kinda racist and kinda ruined him in a way.
it wasn't as big as Raw at this time

I remember watching this entire era with every little and big detail that you described in this video and actually enjoying with what I was watching! I don’t know how else to describe my excitement towards this era just like you have so I’ll just end all my thoughts on that note! Oh and there is one more thing that I thought of that being that this entire era you described here was just as long as a pregnancy is! I freaking LOVED Smackdown Live from 2016-2017. Smackdown Live felt so different from Raw. The best part of Smackdown Live imo is Talking Smack. 💯

Smackdown 16-17 was awesome. We had Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Baron Corbin, Carmella, and Naomi on the rise. Feuds like Cena vs Styles, Miz vs Ziggler, Nikki vs Carmella, Ambrose vs Styles, and Orton vs Wyatt was awesome. Great tag team and women's division and Miz reinvented himself as an main event caliber by delivering the infamous Talking Smack promo on Bryan
I don’t think Orton vs Bray was awesome like I felt like them both together combined as a team was awesome like they just looked like a killers instinct tag team It was like no one can stop them and If u realize It both was great and they both accomplished something big as a team

• Both was Sole Survivor at Survivor Series Co.
• Randy won the Rumble for the 2nd time
• Bray was finally WWE Champion
And etc.. they both just accomplished major things as a team imo 🤷🏽♂️
The Legend Killer Randy Orton I think the feud was awesome but the match wasn’t 😂, IMO I think Bray should’ve beat Orton at WM33 then go on to feud with Luke Harper

The Rock made Smackdown and Made it Special, Batista, Edge, Taker etc. Became the faces of Smackdown. Now Styles made it his home

People talk about the 2002-03 Smackdown Six. But I also feel that SD Live in 2016-17 had a SD Five or SD Six: The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena, AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose.

@Marc Spera Guerrero has more charisma? Guy tanked SD’s ratings when he became World champion and was the lowest drawing champion of all time in WWE. He drew the lowest crowd ever in WWE Live Events. Lol
And, Benoit was nothing more than a great technical wrestler.

Smackdown in 2016 reinvigorated my love for wrestling. I stopped watching SD in 2014 and kinda stopped watching Raw but when Smackdown Live started I became a fan again. Everyone on the roster felt like they had a purpose and even the lower card wrestlers like Slater had storylines. I miss those days

*SmackDown Live was the place to be from July 2016 to WrestleMania 33. You had plenty of great feuds, great storylines, TalkSmack and even superstars actually got a real opportunity to do something great. But then after WrestleMania, the show just started becoming bad because Vince McMahon.*
I believe during that it was triple h his crew behind smackdown then Vince wanted his hands on it 🙄
Smackdown showed WWE fans that WWE doesn't have to be TV-14 to great, it just has to be entertaining.

Smackdown during the beginning of the second brand split was waaaay better than Raw. I still can't believe that the second brand split happened 4 years ago.
When Roode was actually championship material. But now what's he doing. Sucking off someone who he beat. I would have like a AJ Styles vs Bobby Roode for the WWE Title in 2017 or 2018.
Roode had momentum in 2017. He had the look of a superstar yet he wasn't utilized properly. He reminded me of Triple H in NXT.

People trash the SD Live era way too much sometimes. It was mostly legit and good, haters just criticize because of Jinder's title run and that only lasted 6 months while SD Live existed from July 2016 to October 2019. We had the special wonderful run from 2016 to WM 33, we had AJ Styles one year title run, we had the return of Daniel Bryan, we had the rise of Becky Lynch, we had Kofi Mania. It was a good run in general.

Those two years Smackdown was the most fun since Smackdown’s Golden Era (1999-2004)

No It died basically after Mania 33 plus after Jinder was champion AJ became
WWE Champion and made It great again and he was getting more great because of that feud with Shinsuke then him and Shinsuke start having boring matches Styles continued on with awesome feuds but boring matches then Styles just left Smackdown and went to Raw barely did anything their and now he’s back on Smackdown as our Intercontinental Champion and hopefully he has a good title run and have awesome matches
@@thelegendkillerrandyorton9635 i wholeheartedly agree with you on the jinder mahal bit ,even tho at the time i was happy when they made jinder champ but his matches *SUCK ASS* ......plus the transition was not right they should have made jinder win more singles match to build up momentum ,character and to help build up his wrestling style to be a genuine threat before facing randy who shouldn't have dropped the championship so soon . The end result was that it looked forced and the timing was off which genuinely described his matches with randy and shinsuke which were botchy and lackluster ; however i disagree with the Aj styles part because all except for his shinsuke matches were (excuse the pun) phenominal ,if you say that they lacked story then i would somewhat agree with you but ultimately every single one of aj matches were entertaining or worthwile(except for nakamura matches bc his only good match with him was on money in the bank ppv) , it was actually funny enough that jinder last great match was with Aj

I agree 100% with this video. I started returning to watching WWE in these years, and I was amazed seeing how well they made Smackdown entertaining again. Some of my favorite highlights is Miz/Ziggler Feud, Bliss Debut, Wyatt Family w/ Orton, Ambrose/AJ Feud.

If you ever been to a live event, you can tell and you can't hear the commentators during the matches.
People normally insult the WWE draft 2016 and how they made everything the same color as the brand but to me it just showed the dedication the WWE had to this new era like it was no Brock and Cena as champion it was some new and fresh faces and I loved that time.

In my personal opinion Smackdown during that time was more about the younger guys getting mold into Stars along with getting opportunities that they probably wouldn't on Raw

Talking Smack was a great show. Styles vs Ambrose was awesome. Miz vs Ziggler was great . Becky Lynch was given a spotlight away from Charlotte, Alexa Bliss, Naomi made their names. The tag team scene was entertaining .
Smackdown built the stars for RAW to ruin them 90% of the time. Once the draft happened in 2017 the magic was just gone and it never recovered

AJ Styles was THE MAN in 2016! He was the BEST in ring performer on SmackDown, the best matches on the brand and he is so good that he somehow managed to make us believe that JAMES F***ING ELLSWORTH was gonna be WWE Champion. This was AJ’s best year in WWE.

I was wating for this video like you said about waiting to see every damn 2016 episode of Smackdown Live. Man, good explanation about all the parts of that product. All wrestlers were shining without exception. Even the fucking James Ellsworth was a star of the show. I have very good memories following SmackDown in that year and I was pissed because the random decision of putting out Luke Harper from WrestileMania (Something that would have benefited the WWE championship match) and because the replacement of Ryan Ward. He was the former writer of NXT and the company put him to run SmackDown. Apparently, Vince didn't like the ideas for the WrestleMania building (included the WWE championship triple threat) and fired him on February to put Road Dogg. After the brand split one half of the roster were disappear of TV and the show became a peace of shit. 2018 the product was a little bit better but, meh

SmackDown Live from July 2016-April 2017 was amazing stuff.
Ever since Jinder Mahal won the championship to the current FOX era, SmackDown has been trash (with some exceptions here and there).
It's messed up how much SmackDown has been mistreated throughout its run.
It felt special but once the Superstar Shakeup occurred. SmackDown was never the same. There was that never ending KO/Shane feud an Jinder as champ and it just wasn't a good time for the show.
No I think Smackdown became trash after Mania 33 then when Jinder became champion It got even worse but then AJ saved Smackdown by defeating Jinder and became WWE Champion AJ was basically carrying Smackdown and has amazing feuds but boring matches with
Shinsuke, Samoa Joe, and Randy Orton but Styles end up leaving then we had
Roman feud with Shane 😒 for literally months 😩 😑... Then all of a sudden AJ is back where he belongs because Raw didn’t do anything with Styles for real and now he’s our Intercontinental Champion and hopefully he becomes a great champion and have great feuds and matches with newer talent maybe 🤷🏽♂️

Talking after smack was good tho especially when the miz cut his best promo as heel ever when he cut the promo on Daniel
Luke Harper should have been in it too and make it a Triple Threat Match at Wrestlemania. The underlying dynamic of who will win the title was a missed opportunity to make it more memorable than what it came out to be.
Watching does make me realize how good this year was

The 2017 "Superstar Shake Up" aka Draft, ruined this Smackdown roster. If Raw took AJ in 2017,the show would've died in viewership. SD Live was the house that AJ Styles built. Even if he wasnt the champion.
