I always look forward to your impartiality. You are the only European car reviewer, among the many that I know of, who has had the courage to say that a non-European car uses better materials and has a better interior than its European counterpart. Thank you for that.
James, so pleased I’ve found the channel. Your reviews are informative, entertaining and enjoyable and I really like the way you present them. Keep them coming, thank you. Some of the best out there. Are you planning any used car reviews in the future?
Echoing much of Bill's comment below ....great reviewing from you. It's a very underated car and I would like a bit more punch from the engines but having had my CX5 for 5 years it is very likely I will buy again for the reasons you state....thank you James
Although the new LED headlights give you amazing visibility at night the front facia of the car would have looked so much sportier with the addition of some lower valance fog lights in my opinion.
Not sure why Mazda went the opposite way of all the other manufacturers. Back in the early 2000s all the other manufacturers had 2 litre engines that were barely pushing 130hp but Mazda had 150hp coming out of their Mazda3 2 litre. Now they're on the 4th gen Mazda3 and the 2 litre in that only has 120hp whilst a Focus has a 1 litre that pushes 155hp. Madness.
The Mi-Drive, where I can select my driving mode (i.e. Sport, Normal, and Off Road), is my favorite new addition to the CX-5. I wished my 2021 CX-5 had it.
Great review. Interesting about the engine and box combo being ok, many people seem to moan about this. It wont drive like a small turbo petrol or a turbo diesel!
Thank you for uploading your video. I'm thinking of buying the 2022 Mazda CX-5 2.5 Turbo. What is the actual MPG city/highway/combined that I can expect with the turbo engine?
Good review James, I’ve got a new shape Kuga, do you think this is a better drive than the Kuga? You don’t mention the Mazda Skyactiv X engine- I wouldn’t be surprised to see that in the CX5 soon
Hi from USA, just bought 2022 cx5 premium ,(which is the new name for GT, not sure what uk model it correlates to) I loooooove it but I wish we had those sweet lime green accents! I cut my teeth on a manual transmission and I wish we had them on offer here, it would be better than these paddle shifters that seem like more of an accessory.
It is at least 10k more expensive than a similar spec’d Tucson in my country. It may drive well, but at all other criteria the Tucson beats it up. And a light interior is not possible on the new CX-5. The fuel consumption is also a big minus.
I'd gladly spend $10k more on a CX-5 than buy a trashy Tucson. In reality, the Tucson cost $1,300 less than the CX-5, but that Tucson doesn't have AWD. BTW... the Silk Beige Leatherette and Parchment Leather interiors are available for the CX-5, which are light interiors. Has Hyundai fixed their problem with engine fires (470,000 recalls)? The Tucson comes with only one engine choice, and that one isn't as peppy as the CX-5 base engine off the line. As for the gas mileage, the Tucson AWD gets 24 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and the CX-5 AWD gets 24 mpg city, 30 mpg highway. So, the CX-5 AWD wins by a hair. The 2022 CX-5 only comes w/ AWD.
As far as I know - I talked about it to a Mazda mechanic - the air outlets can be easy removed… then just put foil on it. I personally like the lime green and I‘m looking forward to get my G194 AWD Newground end of next week…. 🍻
I got it and it does the job. Both the engine and the transmission are very well tuned, I use it 90% in town. When I get to cur5vy roads uphill, I switch to sport mode and is a joy.
@@CatalinRaducan Thank you for the update Catalin. The updated version has not yet arrived in South Africa, we are always about 6 months behind the UK launches. This helps me plan the purchase, Thanks!
I'm odd one out, but I thought the sight lines were strange in this SUV, like I was in a round bubble and the dash sat up high and A pillars surrounded me.
Why are you driving on the wrong side of the road ? I just bought a 2023 CX-5 in Preferred package , here in the US we only get 2.5 liter and 2.5 liter turbo , no sluggish 2.0 liter .

Thank you, that’s very kind. Yes, I plan to
an enjoyable and honest review, thumbs up!
Great review, nice to have Batch back. And it’s refreshing to see a reviewer actually concentrate on how the car drives.

My daughter has the 2018 version of this car. She likes it a lot.
Beautiful Mazda CX-5 and great review! Thank you very much :)
Brilliant review very informative. Looks like you enjoyed it.ive just ordered a sport edition.i can't wait to drive it.
Brilliant review, would like to see some hatchback reviews here
Great video… best regards from Hamburg, you made a top job 👍

How much are you concerned with the front facia look when behind the steering wheel(at night, lol) compared to great visability ?
A few manufacturers are now dropping front fogs these days. It's becoming a new trend.
Very nice car and great review thanks.
Love it, seriously considering this or the CX-30, but I think I prefer the look of the CX-5 with its lighter plastic cladding.
CX30 all day long. Unless you need the extra space.
Best review always like there details you show
have really learnt alot on car's
Just buy wacthing your reviews
always watch your updates 👍☺️
Love your reviews 🎉🎊🧨, Happy Chinese New Year!
Only problem is that the 2litre petrol version we get in the uk won't pull the skin off a rice pudding.& I say that as an owner.

I really think you are the only one to review the manual 2.0 petrol. I ordered mine in Revolutin Bose trim and it comes in December. 2.0 manual AWD.
Taking my test drive next weekend
Just ordered a new one in Exclusive Line trim in poly metal grey!
The Mi-Drive, where I can select my driving mode (i.e. Sport, Normal, and Off Road), is my favorite new addition to the CX-5. I wished my 2021 CX-5 had it.
can you share your route where you test drove this car? Looks amazing
Thanks! 👍😃

Does The CX 5 have any ambient lighting on doors or puddle lighting ?
Thank you for uploading your video. I'm thinking of buying the 2022 Mazda CX-5 2.5 Turbo. What is the actual MPG city/highway/combined that I can expect with the turbo engine?
Wow a manual! Enjoy those while you've got them!
Good review James, I’ve got a new shape Kuga, do you think this is a better drive than the Kuga? You don’t mention the Mazda Skyactiv X engine- I wouldn’t be surprised to see that in the CX5 soon
Thanks Jez. The Mazda just edges a Kuga in my opinion. I was expecting the engine to be added with this upgrade to be honest
Yay! Found your channel. -clicks subscribe-
Manual transmission for a family SUV? Wonder how many dads or moms will go for it.
Exactly. All that talk about driveability is also not targeted on the average family-Joe.
Pretty much everyone in the uk.
Does this little Brit ever hit on the negatives?
All the other reviews say the 2.0 petrol is underpowered

@@SokemRokemRobot this goes for all you said: not in my country. Not at all.
@@SokemRokemRobot glad you have standard awd. In eu countries awd is pricey, you could buy cupra formentor 310bhp awd automatic :)
Not sure about that lime green thing. Can it be removed?
In this trim level it can’t, but the other the other trims are more normal looking!
As far as I know - I talked about it to a Mazda mechanic - the air outlets can be easy removed… then just put foil on it. I personally like the lime green and I‘m looking forward to get my G194 AWD Newground end of next week…. 🍻
Można użyć czarnego markera do zmiany koloru, ale w odwrotną stronę chyba się nie da !
What’s with the green though?
Newground trim.
Anyone here have the 2.0L updated automatic CX-5? Is the shift changes and acceleration good enough on a daily basis for highway and traffic?
I got it and it does the job. Both the engine and the transmission are very well tuned, I use it 90% in town. When I get to cur5vy roads uphill, I switch to sport mode and is a joy.

The Mazda CX5 is a mild hybrid. This Guy says there's no hybrid here 🤔
This guy drove this car two years ago for this review. Mild hybrids have been added since this video was filmed. This guy can’t see into the future
I have a CX30 2022 and it's a mild hybrid .
The fluorescent trim details are the automotive equivalent of a comb over. Argh!
how come the USA and Australia Get better cars? where is the cx50 and cx60 for the uk? they look better than this model
The CX-5 screen impedes vision...one reason to not buy cx-5...bad location...
