Have you tried seeing if the dealer can supply and program the traditional integrated key with fob for your Explorer? Yes the separate key and fob are cheap alternatives, but to make it a bit closer to a civilian model for those who want it? Or even the upgrade to the push button start?
I believe they can do both, but the integrated keyfobs are more expensive (I think). I didn't really think about it. The remote start can actually be enabled via free software available on the web.

I heard conflicting stories, but apparently a bunch of them that were part of a deal that fell through went to auction. The dealer titled them under their name so they weren't "new" and sold them. I heard there were around 100 of them. Never really got a definitive answer but I know there are other people that got in on the same deal.

You shouldn't need the Aux-in to have 2 way radio audio over the front door speakers. There should be a connector up under the instrument panel (IP) tunnel which allows you to disconnect the front two speakers from the AM/FM radio and connect them to any audio source you want. You'll need the Motorcraft 3U2Z-14S411-LUB harness if you don't want to cut into the stock wiring. I have a VHF mobile and a scanner in my 2014 PIU with the Gamber Johnson console and I ended up using my own external speakers for each as the AM/FM radio sounds awful without the front speakers. The Ford upfitting guide has details on all the harnesses that are up under the IP tunnel.
Yup, I had seen that. But as you discovered, the rear speakers sound horrible and I didn't want to kill the ability to play music on the front speakers. I will be doing a video on how I set up the audio as I have multiple radios.
I wanted to run my mobile radio and scanner to the same external speaker but each output had a different impedance. I briefly considered using some sort of mixer to combine the audio but I ended up going with two separate speakers. It definitely was the right decision to use two separate speakers.
i rented a 2014 that was fully loaded (they didnt have the charger i reserved so i was pissed about that) not impressed at first but after a few days i began to love it for the keyless entry and the start stop button was cool but i was really surprised how well it cornered with the hankook tires on 20 in wheels...i notice you have the goodyears on steel rims that look like 18 in maybe...my thought was always to by a civilian model and add the pi parts you like like my old 82 crown vic i added the pi sway bars which was 1,1/4 rear and 1,7/8ths front and i doubled my corner speed with one mod on the same old tires plus changing to cargo coil rear springs

Hi, you mentioned grille lights. Have you thought of utilizing the Whelen Micron stud mount lights for the grille? There is already a place designated that has a cover that pops off to install them.
Yes! That is the plan. After figuring out those are the ones that fit, and finding out the rather ridiculous price they charge for them, I tried unsuccessfully to find an alternative. I finally said Ok I'll spend the money for the Microns and found out not even Whelen stocks the model I wanted. They are special order. I'm contemplating a Whelen visor light bar as well...which is also special order. More videos about this to come...

As a ham radio licensee, I volunteer with a local group of volunteers that provide communication and safety services to public events like marathons and bike races. I sometimes provide support services to bicycles along a 70 mile course putting my on the side of highways and other roads. The lights also tell event personnel and police that we are with the event allowing us entry onto roads that may be closed for the event. I do other stuff with law enforcement but do not to disclose details of that stuff publicly.
Yeah I think they are out of business. All the stuff he was selling can be done yourself using the ForSCAN tool though. Just need an OBDII CAN adapter and a laptop. Though I think the fobs still need to be done by the dealer, but don't quote me on that.

Congrats! I don't sorry... You should be able to replace the C shaped blank inserts in the lower bumper with the explorer fog lights with very little effort. Go to a salvage yard and find a 2016 that was rear ended and pick up the lights. My bet is the wiring is right there for them but I would confirm before you buy anything. Don't know how I've got here. Anyway, I don't know why you've got rid of the rear-door safety and installed keyless entry. It might be not that comfortable but it gives you some extra safety. I would trade that in for comfort - especially when it comes to keyless entry, which is basically mandatory nowadays. Question: Wasn't there any sort of Aux/USB/Bluetooth interface out there? An auxiliary port is all nice and fancy as long as you can put your phone somewhere, but having the possibility of playing MP3s on a flash drive via an interface which emulates a CD changer loaded with MP3-CDs is way nicer and easier to handle. When it comes the the intelligent AWD mod, it's kind of ridiculous to see how Ford implies artificial limitations via their software on their cars. However, all manufacturers do this nowadays and dedicated people are having a good time hacking their cars. :D I recommend you to get yourself a centre console or make yourself one (ChrisFix made a great tutorial on this topic). Also you should get retail rear seats when you find cheap ones for the extra safety a headrest provides. Hence the car is virtually new, finding cheap spare parts might be hard, but time solves this problem. It's really late where I am now and I'm a vegetable at this point, so please forgive if I got something wrong.
Yes did all the work myself. The spotlights are options this vehicle never had. This model only had a rear view camera. You can get BT, but this model doesn't have it as it has the base "myFord" radio, not the myFord Touch. This model was the most basic model you could get. It had zero options.

I took it to ford, it was before I knew about forscan. I can't recall if forscan can do tihs though. I brought it to the dealer and they did the fobs and put in the fordpimods as-built file and I think they charged me an hours worth of labor...it actually took them way longer because of their complete incompetence in performing the most basic of tasks on a computer and inability to follow simple directions. But they didn't charge me for that part.
Here with my ford buddy programming my fobs. Trying to figure out how to open doors from back seat and also open windows from back seat. Window lights are lit but no workie. They can be opened and closed from front doors only. Is yours the same?
Mine did not have any issues with the windows. It was never an actual cop car so it was never programmed (or modified) to not be able to do that. I would pull the door panel and check to see nothing was modified.
Never tried. You;d need to remove the spare and the crash bracing at the very least. I think someone answered this question in the comments but I don't recall the answer.
Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure all 2016s have remote start built in, but you have to enable it either by the dealer or using forscan,. But I also think you have to get the fobs programmed by the dealer. Don't quote me on it. Search www.explorerforum.com/ They have an FPIU dedicated forum.
Take this with a grain of salt, but my understanding which may not be correct is the factory autostart is in there, but you have to add *separate* fobs specifically for the autostart (not the normal facotry fobs) and have it activated in the BCM.
Oh, lol, duh. fordpimods gives great instructions. The dealer I took mine to literally didn't understand the concept behind copy/paste so it was a little tough for them.. hope you fair better.
They only charged me an hour ($75). If they had followed the instructions, it would have taken half that, but instead they probably worked on it almost 2.

There's really only one...sorta. Mine is actually quite old. I've had it for maybe 15 years but looks exactly the same as the one they sell now. Though the one they have now has bluetooth and other stuff.
@@lenguanegra7354 Assuming you have the MyFord radio with no USB/line in, you need to add the line in cable and make the change to the as-built info to enable the media button. I think you can also just upgrade to sync, but it's rather expensive. www.fordpimods.com has both options.
Modern conveniences like? Power windows, locks,mirrors, seats, pedals: check check check check check. Really the only thing it's missing (to me) is nav and playing MP3s from a USB, both of which can can easily be fulfilled with my mobile. I have nav in my other vehicle and I can count how many times I used it on one hand. Paid $24,500 which is very cheap for a new 300hp AWD SUV.

If you buy a new retail Explorer, it will cost you $35-45k. I paid $25k for a brand new 2016 SUV. I think I got a good deal and more importantly, it has features I will find useful for the Emergency Communications work I do that "regular looking" vehicles don't.

Herbert Ainsworth Even if it's a left over, Ford dealers can't sell them to civilians unless it's been titled out of Ford's system (i.e. a used vehicle). The local dealer here has a 2013 rotting away on the lot, because it's considered new and they can only sell it to a government agency.
I think you paid too much to correct these things. It would have been easier for you to install an aftermarket security system and stereo head unit and bypass all the factory Ford bullshit and not get involved with Ford dealerships who are just out to steal your money!
There are no aftermarket head units that fit in the dash without extensive custom dash modifications which I'm sure would cost more that $60. I agree dealers are Satan. I lucked out though and got one that only charged me an hour.
The 3.5 and 3.7 are the worst engines made. Water pumps will fail by 70,000 miles. It is timing-chain driven. Replacement is around $1,800.00. The AWD PTO will fail by 60,000 miles. If luck has it, it may fail under warranty. This is a $3,000 fix. Poor design. Part of a Class Action lawsuit which was just tossed out. The headlight are the worst in the industry according to the Insurance institute; ya, real bad. Stay away from the Explorer AWD, If you can get in in the smaller engine and FWD only, that would be good. You would then have to add extra driving lights. The both catalytic converters are subject to premature failure. With kuck the first set may fail under warranty; the second failure will be on you. These heavy parts are time bombs. Unless you have Government monies, stay away from These AWD's and the two engines with the internal water pumps.

I just picked a 2016 PI Utility. Several Ford tech all agree, much better off with the 3.7L NA engine. Turbo hard to cool or problematic long term

Did you ever consider the 4" to 8" upgrade to SYNC 3 on that vehicle? You'd unlock way more if you did that.

Just flip the toggle in the door jamb like most cars. If that doesn't work, pull the door panel and make sure the latch was not disconnected.

I took it to ford, it was before I knew about forscan. I can't recall if forscan can do tihs though. I brought it to the dealer and they did the fobs and put in the fordpimods as-built file and I think they charged me an hours worth of labor...it actually took them way longer because of their complete incompetence in performing the most basic of tasks on a computer and inability to follow simple directions. But they didn't charge me for that part.

Here with my ford buddy programming my fobs. Trying to figure out how to open doors from back seat and also open windows from back seat. Window lights are lit but no workie. They can be opened and closed from front doors only. Is yours the same?
Mine did not have any issues with the windows. It was never an actual cop car so it was never programmed (or modified) to not be able to do that. I would pull the door panel and check to see nothing was modified.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure all 2016s have remote start built in, but you have to enable it either by the dealer or using forscan,. But I also think you have to get the fobs programmed by the dealer. Don't quote me on it. Search www.explorerforum.com/ They have an FPIU dedicated forum.

Take this with a grain of salt, but my understanding which may not be correct is the factory autostart is in there, but you have to add *separate* fobs specifically for the autostart (not the normal facotry fobs) and have it activated in the BCM.

Oh, lol, duh. fordpimods gives great instructions. The dealer I took mine to literally didn't understand the concept behind copy/paste so it was a little tough for them.. hope you fair better.

They only charged me an hour ($75). If they had followed the instructions, it would have taken half that, but instead they probably worked on it almost 2.

the rattle will be from the number plate holder. Looks flimsy. Had a similar issue a couple of years ago.

There's really only one...sorta. Mine is actually quite old. I've had it for maybe 15 years but looks exactly the same as the one they sell now. Though the one they have now has bluetooth and other stuff.

@@lenguanegra7354 Assuming you have the MyFord radio with no USB/line in, you need to add the line in cable and make the change to the as-built info to enable the media button. I think you can also just upgrade to sync, but it's rather expensive. www.fordpimods.com has both options.

I'd definitely swap out the stereo with an infotainment system. You can't do that with Sync since in integrates the climate control.

Thanks for the comment. Well I'm a bit old to be "picking up girls". If you're picking up women on the street at my age, you will probably end up in the back of one of these. Hahah. If you buy a new retail Explorer, it will cost you $35-45k. I paid $25k for a brand new 2016 SUV. I think I got a good deal and more importantly, it has features I will find useful for the Emergency Communications work I do that "regular looking" vehicles don't.

I think you paid too much to correct these things. It would have been easier for you to install an aftermarket security system and stereo head unit and bypass all the factory Ford bullshit and not get involved with Ford dealerships who are just out to steal your money!
There are no aftermarket head units that fit in the dash without extensive custom dash modifications which I'm sure would cost more that $60.
I agree dealers are Satan. I lucked out though and got one that only charged me an hour.
The 3.5 and 3.7 are the worst engines made. Water pumps will fail by 70,000 miles. It is timing-chain driven. Replacement is around $1,800.00. The AWD PTO will fail by 60,000 miles. If luck has it, it may fail under warranty. This is a $3,000 fix. Poor design. Part of a Class Action lawsuit which was just tossed out. The headlight are the worst in the industry according to the Insurance institute; ya, real bad. Stay away from the Explorer AWD, If you can get in in the smaller engine and FWD only, that would be good. You would then have to add extra driving lights. The both catalytic converters are subject to premature failure. With kuck the first set may fail under warranty; the second failure will be on you. These heavy parts are time bombs. Unless you have Government monies, stay away from These AWD's and the two engines with the internal water pumps.
