Definitely have the prop serviced, and paint it with Pettit Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier. The best time to check engine props shaft alignment is when the boat is on the hard. The longer the hull is dry the harder the barnacles get. I use a drywall sanding jig and wet sand the bottom with 80 grit to get the hull smooth. Stay safe and work hard. We're all watching!
Greetings from Fort Lauderdale. Yes, we are still here. Irma knocked us around quite a bit but we made it. Everything should be close to normal by the time you come back down although you will probably notice a lot more sunken boats the farther south towards Miami you go. Sent for the T shirts. They haven't arrived yet but should arrive this week.
What a great start! I want to see your speed numbers when the bottom is finished. I can't help but think your fuel burn will be better. My fingers are crossed for when you check the transmission and shaft alignments.
Just a suggestion re the teak; you might like Cetol instead of varnish. There are several versions of color & finish. It takes dramatically less time, fewer coats needed. It lasts well and looks a lot like varnish. If you use plain teak oil, you have to keep reapplying new coats frequently to keep it up.
I LOVE these informational and gritty videos. Keep them coming please! And I love seeing all these upgrades and maintenence y'all are doing. Thats the reason why I purchased a shirt from y'all. Super worth it!
You guys rock man! Love the maintenance videos. It really brings to life how much work it is to own a boat. never mind living on one. Be safe take care. Send Jetty kisses.
The up keep of a boat is tough. I use to have my own diving business cleaning the bottoms of boats, changing the zincs and taking the props off and replacing them.
G'day Bill, and Sierra! I too, am enjoying your boat maintenance videos. Please, keep them coming! (I know, if you want to keep your boat looking like new, nothing is more important than keeping up with basic boat maintenance.) Well, "corrosion is like the uninvited guest who always shows up hungry. At some point, you forget about serving this goat a meal and dish out snacks and junk food to keep him away from the roast beef. With corrosion, you feed the unwelcome guest excess electrons instead of Twinkies. These electrons come ready to eat, “packaged” in the form of what are called sacrificial anodes. Corrosion eats the anode (the Twinkie) instead of your sterndrive, prop shaft or raw water through-hull (the good stuff) because anodic metals dish out electrons as freely as Grandma dishes out Thanksgiving dinner. Know that with each electron consumed, a minute bit of the anode’s metal is consumed instead of a bit of your boat or drive’s metal, hence the sacrificial moniker." By the way, Jetty is great at being foreman! Thank you! Cheers! :D
Not the best part of owning a boat, but a important matiance step. The boats looking good, the rails should really pop with a good coat of oil. Jenny makes a great supervisor! Looking good, keep up the good work!!
Neverland has been a great boat for you, but a lot of work , hopefully you next one will be kind to you. The used market might be interesting now with all the boats lost to Irma. Hopefully you will be able to get less of fixer upper even a catamaran might suite your lifestyle but they are so expensive ..... It does not matter now but the old trick for varnish work in the Florida and island sun is to varnish the bare wood then paint with white paint to protect it as it lasts a lot longer than varnish . Then remove the white paint to expose the wood when you sell ( the varnish keeps the white paint out of the wood pours making it easier to get back to wood again). I see 'Wanderer'(boatfam) is for sale too but they have a different reason! Good luck selling in the fall, its hard, you might have to go back to Fl to sell. Cheers Warren
I must say that I really admire your hard work cleaning the hull. Just saw from Ran Sailing from you tube that there is a new type of antifouling paint that will last for a few years. Barnacle DO NOT grow on this paint. The paint has the feel of silicon. It's twice the price of regular paint.
Oil, your Teak. Its cheaper and faster, and it looks good too. You'll probably put on..about 10 coats the first time. Then one coat ever 3 months or so. Buy the oil @ Wal-Mart ,"WATCO".
Geez, surprised you were able to 5.7 kts with that dirty bottom! Hey FYI(and I'm sure you already know) maybe take an orbital sander to the rudder where the zincs make contact for better connection. Powerboaters should always have the wheels turned.
Where are you guys staying while your boat's out of the water? I hope its somewhere the hot water showers are endless and the AC is cool and dry! Aren't you glad you managed to clear the Sunshine State before Hurricane Irma showed up?
Bottom was bad. On LI, I used the clean the bottom at Simmons Pt in Flanders Bay. In Fl, I did it at Peanut Island. Hope you back in the water. I did the Kayak fir a Cause at Cedar Beach. It was a good time. I filmed it & took photos. I will put it on RUclips. When are heading back to FL?
Lucky for you being up north when Irma hit. My 38' MT Trawler was destroyed at the dock (Brevard County FL)! Entire marina decimated. My home gone. We'll be back, though. Love your vids.
I know your vids are a little behind, however, don't stray too far without keeping an eye on Jose. looks like he will be here the end of the coming week.
What are your plans after Neverland? Will you be getting a bigger boat? Maybe a sailboat? Oh, I got my tees. They're great quality and perfect fit! Thanks!
Wow, that hand scrapping is labor intensive but clearly necessary! I am curious though, can the metal pieces such as rudder/prop be removed and bead blasted?
Hi Bill how bout some quick tips on teak cleanup.and why oil rather varnish(time?)this is even cooler now my first night after taking possession of a 34'1984 MT was Block island to Staten Island.lost8pounds from anxiety and fear😰
haha thats a long trip!!! oil over varnish because of easier application and maintenance supposedly. first time using oil for my (besides cetol) so we shall see. Love it so far.
I'm sure you already answered this but I couldn't find. When was the last time you scraped the bottom? We are looking at trawlers to keep on the coast. Also, got our shirts today, Thx!! Stay safe
I.m kinda surprised you didn't dive on the boat every few days and go after growth on the hull with a bristle brush and scraper.. in that warm florida and Bahamian water. Sure did build up ! hard to tell what it cost you.. but could have been 1/3 ? of your fuel use.
I hope the haters who think you travel around on a trust fund see this one. Good luck with the sale, though I admit a lot of the appeal with your videos is because of the boat and its problems which I can definitely relate to. I hope your next one will need some TLC too!
they are relatively cheap, that zinc he replaced on the rudder MAY have cost 20 bucks.... but than again he bought it from a boat yard so it could have been a little more...
I really anxious to see your boat when it's done. You look like your doing a great job! Lot's and lot's of work, but it'll be worth it when she finished. I used Epiphanes varnish on my outside brightwork and it didn't even last 2 seasons up here in New England. I'm curious to see what you guys finally decided to use on your boat and why? Please? I heard oil is easy to use and apply I'd love to know all your thoughts on it. Thanks!
We haven't experience one while living on a boat with the boat in the water yet. If we get hit hard we are gonna tuck way up in a river here on LI and use a bunch of anchors/chain
It looks like there is no barriercoat primer on your running gear. Is that just regular bottom paint on the rudder, running gear, trim tabs?If there is not for the best protection against corrosion all painted metal should be cleaned bare and coat with 2-3 coats of barrier coat.then 2 coats of bottom paint. If you just use regular bottom paint on non primered metal the cuprous oxide in the bottom paint corrodes the metal it is on faster. Also if you put PROP SPEED THATS THE NAME OF THE PRODUCT on your prop you will never have a barnicle on the prop again it is a very hard epoxy like prop coating. Also remove the fittings on the inside of your thru-hull intake so you can see other side and make sure all barnicles and debree are clear from your water intake all of the barnicles you cleaned through the small holes will now get sucked by the impeller and tear it up
Not the prettiest part of boating but the most important. Good work you two!
I've never had a wife or a girlfriend who would help clean and scrape the hull in the yard. Sierra is a keeper for sure!
Ohhh yes she is!
I enjoy the maintenance videos. Keep them coming. Jetty is a great supervisor.
GOOD TIME TO DO THESE PROJECTS NEVERLAND WILL ALMOST LOOK NEW
We received our shirts today, awesome guy's thanks!! :)
No, thank YOU!!!
So many people love you guys! Wonderful adventures that we can live thru you vicariously. Sierra is a work horse! Way to go girl!
Crazy how things work out. Glad you didn't leave your boat in Florida because of hurricane Irma
All that growth was certainly slowing you down. It will be interesting to see how fast you go with a clean bottom.
Todd Dunn it’s called a hull not bottom
Good, I was jonesing for a video from you guys.
On behalf of all humanity I want to thank you for taking your traveling coral reef and filtering the poop out of the eastern seaboard.
Randy Dinsmore I
haha your welcome. we do what we can

I missed you both ... good to hear from you again ! Jetty ❤
Got my T-shirt yesterday. It's awesome. You guys are the best
Awesome Chez! Thanks for supporting!!!
We got our shirts today in Baton Rouge, LA! Very nice. We'll sport them at Trawlerfest at the end of the month.
That would be sweet! Thanks so much for supporting Drew!!!
Greetings from Fort Lauderdale. Yes, we are still here. Irma knocked us around quite a bit but we made it. Yes, you should receive the shirts any day now. We are glad you guys are ok in ft Lauderdale. Hopefully all those sunken boats had insurance...
Love the workshop type vids
Oh my - you are working so hard! It looks great!
What a great start! I want to see your speed numbers when the bottom is finished. I can't help but think your fuel burn will be better. My fingers are crossed for when you check the transmission and shaft alignments.

It lasts well and looks a lot like varnish. If you use plain teak oil, you have to keep reapplying new coats frequently to keep it up.
thanks for the suggestion. I have used cetol before and really like it but this time we used Australian timber oil and it came out great!
I LOVE these informational and gritty videos. Keep them coming please! And I love seeing all these upgrades and maintenence y'all are doing. Thats the reason why I purchased a shirt from y'all. Super worth it!
Oh the joy of watching you do it
My favorite videos of you two are with this boat.
Barnacle Billy!!! Two words... Surgical Gloves!
You guys rock man! Love the maintenance videos. It really brings to life how much work it is to own a boat. never mind living on one. Be safe take care. Send Jetty kisses.
Removing all barnacles will increase your speed , check it after the cleaning .
You guys are the best in your geunra for sure. Plus you keeps it real # Toug couple plus cool as breeze!
You gotta get Sierra that catamaran now !
Ahhh, good times!
Received the sweat shirt yesterday. Great quality. Totally enjoying your journey. Thanks for these great vids!!
Awesome Robert! Glad you like it and thanks for supporting!!!
Nice Work!!
That sleek barnacle free hull should be good for another quarter of a knot!
nice work Billy and Sierra ! Keep her lookin good !! :)
FYI, a commercial pressure washer with a rotating head will take the barnacles right off
I love the video
We got our shirts today. Very nice.
Getting back to Florida will be interesting for you.
I got my t-shirt today! It is beautiful.
Glad you like it Janice! Thanks for supporting!!!
The up keep of a boat is tough. I use to have my own diving business cleaning the bottoms of boats, changing the zincs and taking the props off and replacing them.
Good Stuff. I bless ya'll with joy, peace, love and abundance in your life. I bless your YT Channel and all that follow you.
Another cool video. We got our shirts today. Awesome, thanks.
Got to get the upkeep done.
got my shirt today fits great and looks great thanks!
Thanks for supporting and we are pumped you like it!!!
Always cool to see your videos 👍🏼
Supper entertaining love it this is my favorite vlog you have done
Thanks for the update!

hahaha love the analogy!
Awesome! Thank you! :-)
Not the best part of owning a boat, but a important matiance step. The boats looking good, the rails should really pop with a good coat of oil. Jenny makes a great supervisor! Looking good, keep up the good work!!
Hard work on the bottom pays off later.
glad you are back to boating... does jetty hire out as supervisor?
Looks good! 👍🇺🇸

Any idea what its called?
You guys should look up the American dad boat episode, they do a lot of sanding and it's really comical😜
Thanks
Got my shirts and a new video!!
My shirt arrived today as well. Love the quality BUT the size runs really small. Shame....
Sweet! thanks for supporting!!!
Oil, your Teak. Its cheaper and faster, and it looks good too. You'll probably put on..about 10 coats the first time. Then one coat ever 3 months or so. Buy the oil @ Wal-Mart ,"WATCO".
we use Australian timber oil (next vid) and it came out amazing!!!
Geez, surprised you were able to 5.7 kts with that dirty bottom! Hey FYI(and I'm sure you already know) maybe take an orbital sander to the rudder where the zincs make contact for better connection. Powerboaters should always have the wheels turned.
Next time you guys add new zincs make sure to sand down to bronze or stainless before putting new zincs
Where are you guys staying while your boat's out of the water? I hope its somewhere the hot water showers are endless and the AC is cool and dry! Aren't you glad you managed to clear the Sunshine State before Hurricane Irma showed up?
haha we are staying at my dads house where the showers are always warm and the a/c is sometimes on..
O.K. now I understand!😁
i worked in a boat yard for many years , never go under a boat while still on the straps. ive seen them break.
The bottom fouling adds a lot more drag than the tender . The tender bottom should be checked as well.
Send us the link when you put it up Ray! We will be back down some time in November..
Pineapple is the shizzle
Lucky for you being up north when Irma hit. My 38' MT Trawler was destroyed at the dock (Brevard County FL)! Entire marina decimated. My home gone. We'll be back, though. Love your vids.
+boulder dash I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you had insurance!
Yes, my only saving grace. Now if it will just pay off.....
I know your vids are a little behind, however, don't stray too far without keeping an eye on Jose. looks like he will be here the end of the coming week.
you two should scuba dive and keep the bottom clean......
it would def be easier than free diving...
How do you bathroom your doggie without the tender?
Cool
Replace them all while you have the boat out.
cant believe summer is over already. But not for you guys
Hey!
Would love to know how fast the boat is after you paint the bottom
What are your plans after Neverland? Will you be getting a bigger boat? Maybe a sailboat?
Oh, I got my tees. They're great quality and perfect fit! Thanks!
Dean Smart sailing cat! Glad you like the shirts!
The ICW is a mess. You might want to go North. Park your boat in of the store houses in Maine.
That Dawg needs a N-95 as well
You'll be able to water-ski on her after the new bottom paint.....hehe
Hard work is good for the soul!! So what kind of boat are you guys gonna buy after Neverland sells?
Amazing what that saltwater does to a boat..
Wow, that hand scrapping is labor intensive but clearly necessary! I am curious though, can the metal pieces such as rudder/prop be removed and bead blasted?
How often did you have to scrape off the haul and paint
Hi Bill how bout some quick tips on teak cleanup.and why oil rather varnish(time?)this is even cooler now my first night after taking possession of a 34'1984 MT was Block island to Staten Island.lost8pounds from anxiety and fear😰

I'm sure you already answered this but I couldn't find. When was the last time you scraped the bottom? We are looking at trawlers to keep on the coast. Also, got our shirts today, Thx!! Stay safe
What chemical did you use to get the varnish off the handrails? so I have that, it's really thick.
How often do you clean the bottom of the boat?
I.m kinda surprised you didn't dive on the boat every few days and go after growth on the hull with a bristle brush and scraper.. in that warm florida and Bahamian water. Sure did build up ! hard to tell what it cost you.. but could have been 1/3 ? of your fuel use.
Captain Bill reminds me of Luke Skywalker
I hope the haters who think you travel around on a trust fund see this one. Good luck with the sale, though I admit a lot of the appeal with your videos is because of the boat and its problems which I can definitely relate to. I hope your next one will need some TLC too!
I would like to have Jessie's job. Are zinc's expensive? Very educational boat maintenance video.
they are relatively cheap, that zinc he replaced on the rudder MAY have cost 20 bucks.... but than again he bought it from a boat yard so it could have been a little more...
Oranje Manatee , I meant Jetty.
yeah ours were between $10-$40 depending on which zinc
Janice Alster A young person can make good living specialist in boat under coatings.

spinnaker5514 we used timber oil. It was highly recommended from a friend of ours. Supposedly low maintenance and looks great:)
Thanks for sharing the secret! LOL! I've never heard of that before. Is that the name brand or just the type of oil?
Tell me, why put antifouling paint on your bottom if dose not work ?
Without it this bottom would be 100x worse and barnacles would be even harder to scrape off
How much time did it take to accumulate all that crudlyness ?
How often do you haul out?
Are you guys getting another boat? Are you going to continue your adventures?
Oh yes, we are looking at sailing cats and will DEFINITELY be continuing the adventure!
Tula's Endless Summer glad to hear that. I definitely enjoy your videos.
what is your plan for Hurricane Jose. Have you experienced a hurricane while living on the boat? Hopefully you have a plan in place and be safe.
We haven't experience one while living on a boat with the boat in the water yet. If we get hit hard we are gonna tuck way up in a river here on LI and use a bunch of anchors/chain
It looks like there is no barriercoat primer on your running gear. So almost 50k subs, a young good looking couple sailing the world?.you guys haven't done a deal with Outremer by any chance?.lol
How did you guys avoid the hurricane?
They are in Long Island NY
ON Long Island, not IN Long Island.... sorry little pet peeve of mine..lol
Rob Tee I think it's pronounced Lon-giland. :-)
AT Long Island!
...well, I suppose being hauled out like they are, ON Long Island it is! :D
Yup, we are on Long Island so our only threat now is Jose...
Really unless you dock in marina all those zincs are like new. You will gain mph or knots now that all the barnacle are off and a nice bottom
Yummy! Environmentally toxic bottom paint barnacles!
