I'm really glad Dan both enjoys and is good at rhythm games, because I love this channel and I SUCK at rhythm games, so at least I get to see them and enjoy the good beats!
It's been a while since I thought about this game, but the moment you got into playing it the memories came flooding back and I was suddenly grinning like a fool. Gonna need to check out this remake.
Loved these games on the Wii! (Although, on the subject of rhythm platforming, I'm obligated to mention Mad Rat Dead as a favorite.) As I recall, the Retro Challenge levels for the original Runner were unlocked when you got all the gold in a level, and then you got one shot at it as a bonus stage.
NO FREAKING WAY?!?! THIS IS AWESOME! I used to play Bit.Trip runner so much as a kid and about a year ago I was trying to see if there were any others, since my Wii is broke, and I was sorta disappointed in how it kinda looked (admittedly I didn’t get a good look). But seeing this just boosted my nostalgia, and hearing that first song- beautiful. I need to find this game, I will get it gosh darn it. Also, yes, it was on the Wii!! I used to play the original when I was in Kindergarten, and I am turning 18 in a few days, so I wanna say that the original was at least 12 years old- Edit: 28:03 Oh no way they even have the original bonus levels?!? That’s cool!
For another fun rhythm game where your actions lend themselves to the music of the stage, consider Thumper. Definitely an interesting experience, and one that may be up your alley.
This looks like it's up my alley. I don't see Rerunner on PS, but I might try the original Bit Runner. That sound effect when you get those Plus signs reminds me of the sound when you reach a milestone in Tetris Effect and the track changes slightly for the level. Gives off a nice feeling.
The Retro Challenges are not how Bit.Trip Runner originally looked. They were bonus levels in the original game, designed to look and sound even _more_ retro than the game itself, and that art style has been preserved here. The main original game was somewhere in between this game and the Retro stages in graphical fidelity. (Side note: I really appreciate how this game lets you unlock the Retro Stages by collecting all the gold in a main Runner 1 stage, rather than making you collect all the gold in the main stage _every time_ you want to play the retro stage!)
I both loved and hated the original Bit.Trip Runner, the hate part mostly being me not good enough at it, lol But the visuals and music are so among the best of it's kind, if not the best. The addition of making your own maps is appealing to me despite my lack of skill, hmmm
I was so pumped when this was announced and so devastated when I learned my laptop can't run it 😢 here's hoping it comes to consoles soon, I've been a big fan of the bit.trip series and the Runner subseries for a while now. If you've never played Runner2 or Runner3 I think you should! They've got a very different tone and art style but they're still a ton of fun. Not to mention they've got brilliant narration by Charles Martinet, of all people
During the FFXVI playthrough, Dan made a point of playing the most upbeat, colorful, happy games he could find on Wednesdays, lest Dark-and-Grittiness completely take over the channel. Now that he's playing Hi-Fi RUSH, should we have similar rule for rhythm games? :-P
30:42 I don't know if this annoys me more or less than Engrish. Though, "Deep drive" doesn't sound much better followed by "Wetfunk". My eyes do not like this game at aaaall. When it starts picking up speed, I can't focus on what the obstacles even are because of the scrolling. Trying to track them just makes it all blurry, but so does not trying to tack them.
Oh wow - I haven't played that in donkeys years. Even tried to stream it, once - but my internet was so bad, I was dropping 75% of frames, even with the quality set to 144p 15fps 😅
Oh great, another amazing looking rhythm game fused with a genre I am TERRIBLE at! Just Shapes and Beats being a bullet hell/smup, and this being a precision runner, where's a rhythm Souls? Or would that just be Taiko No Tatsujin on the harder difficulties?
Am I the only one who’s just slightly annoyed that Runner is the only one of the original Bit.Trip games that got any sort of follow-up? MUCH LESS THREE?
My friend was the leader of this project and I just love it
Commander Video is back! This was such a good series that started on the wii eshop, and great to see it revisit those roots in a remake.

Check out Runner2 and Runner3 as well
Same
@@Renne308 I think you mean Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien
... and Runner 3

Runner 2 was quite good too, highly recommended.

I love these games from afar. From watching alone I understand the "trip" part of the name.
This is such comfort content, and it is exactly what I needed today.
i remember playing playing the bit trip series as a result of humble bundle. This is bringing back a lot of nostalgia~

I love knowing when one of the pluses is coming up based on the music.
I LOVE the Bit.Trip series and am in the middle of 100%'ing Runner 2 again just because. So happy to see this!
I remember playing the original on my wii or wiiU for hours on end. such a fun game, I should play it again

is still wild that the devs of Bit Trip Runner are the only people that figured out how to make a good Bubsy game

My only exposure to this genera was one level in Retro City Rampage. This is a real gem!

That was so much fun to watch!
Love the Pitfall gold bricks XD
I love bit trip runner games
I'm getting real "Mario Maker" vibes from the user-made levels.
Lovely game. Ty for sharing with us.
Dan did not recognize the Pitfall level. I am an old

1:45: Why is the score _multiplier_ in the shape of a +? That's not the right symbol. It should be an ×.
No idea. Most likely it's a reference to Bit.Trip Core, where that + was controlled by the player.
Oh wow - I haven't played that in donkeys years.
Even tried to stream it, once - but my internet was so bad, I was dropping 75% of frames, even with the quality set to 144p 15fps 😅
I’ve been trying to figure out what this game is called for so long
there is some motion blurring happening here and it does not feel good
I suggest the game Figment - great music and a weird, quirky vibe :]
💙

No way they made a new one-‽
Why does the main character look like a taller version of one of the crew mates from 'Among Us'? A game were you lose friends over one round.
Am I the only one who’s just slightly annoyed that Runner is the only one of the original Bit.Trip games that got any sort of follow-up? MUCH LESS THREE?
is bit.trip not one of the og indie darlings from the time of fez & braid
