I personally don't think it is a coincidence that suika game and 2048 both have 11 "steps" -- we have 11 kinds of fruits here, and if you count up powers of 2, there are 11 numbers from 2 to 2048.

I managed to get a fresh honeydew once. I was volunteering on a community farm, towards the end of season. The farmer I was assisting offered some of their extra produce, which included various melons. I had eaten plenty of store-bought, bland-honeydew-laden fruit salad growing up, so I took one home, thinking it was finally a chance for redemption. The fruit was beautiful and firm, with excellent color and no blemishes. Later that day, I cut it all up, portioning out a serving and preparing the rest for, what would surely be, a few days of melony bliss. With several neat cubes before me (harkening back to those fruit salad days), I took a bite. My delight quickly turned to disappointment as I realized that it was completely flavorless. Perhaps a bad fruit, perhaps a bad crop. I’ve never known for certain, since I moved away shortly after. My hunt continues to this day.

TIL that this game no longer requires a JP Switch account and the ability to pay in JPY.
I still can't play, but I have the Hololive fan version, sooo.
0:58 Wait, what kind of nonsense did you guys have to do to play this before int'l release?! I figured the HoloEN girls used a company card or something.
1:32 Wow, that's a lot of faff. Hope it was worth it.
3:28 This game baffles me. It's not my style of puzzle game (I'm much more a Tetris fan), and one of my biggest problems is how short runs are... and yet there are so many instances of me opening it (well, as mentioned the Hololive fan version) and playing. I don't know why I play it.
5:05 I don't get how to strategize in this, but I have had multiple... let's see maybe... oranges (Korone/Okayu in the fan game) sat at the top, not bumping into each other, and causing a game over.
    6:29 Yes, me!
6:45 Fruit cups are gross, just give me the melon.
9:17 Wait, that's not a game over in the full Suika?! That's game in the Hololive one.
13:07 You can also create chain reactions, so that as fruits combine, small ones from the top hit the bottom.
17:45 Fun fact: "laser" is an acronym for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation". Therefore, not a brand name.
22:07 And because of my bias, I'm trying to guess which Hololive talent you might watch. I'm guessing one candidate is Fuwamoco, I can see Carrie liking that energy.
24:12 OMG IT IS A BIN. It's a 3D bin. I feel so stupid for not seeing that.
27:52 So, I looked up "Dekopon", the non-brand name is "shiranui"... which feels like it either explains something about one of the Hololive talents, and if not is an amusing coincidence.
    34:41 Hi Noel/Flare/Mel.
39:50 The Hololive fan one is really close. The character-based objects mean there's not as much rolling (like earlier pushing the watermelon with a cherry slowly, that just doesn't happen because the hair will wedge it), but it's very close.
45:50 I like thinking multiple moves ahead... but not with RNG. With RNG, I just try and adapt.
47:43 No clue how the scoring works, but I've hit 9k in the Hololive one.

6:20: IRL, honeydew is just a cheap filler fruit they stick in fruit cups because that's the only context where someone might eat honeydew. It's not bartenders watering down their drinks, it's bartenders making cocktails with cheap liquor, while selling the good stuff under its brand label. And the brand is "grape" or "banana" or something.
12:50: Having played a version of this game...that's not _strictly_ true, but it's _basically_ true. Sometimes a cascading collapse will throw some more little fruits down to the bottom where they mix into a middle-sized fruit, but that's not something you can generally control.
16:00: Sometimes I have success dropping a series of smaller balls into small gaps. Sometimes I just get a small ball on top of that gap, and then a bigger one rolls on top. It can be a risky maneuver.
23:55: That's the worst. It always feels like the game is cheating you out of continuing.
    32:55: Fun lie-"troll" is a contracted form of "fruit-roll".
42:30: It's okay, Apple. At least you're not a cherry!

It's a conspiracy against honeydew, most people have never tasted a ripe one. A properly ripe honeydew is the Cadillac of melons. Why do you think that the melon flavor soda that's popular here in Japan is green? That's what honeydew is supposed to taste like. It's not that you don't like honeydew, you've just never tasted honeydew.

Hello! I am here in the defense of honeydew from fruit cup injustice. To begin I'd like to begin by saying that I am not an expert on fruit culture, but I've eaten melon in my life before... those are my qualifications.
Basically, bad honeydew is not sweet. A good honeydew is really sweet. I'd compare it at its best to a good watermelon (thought their flavors are very different). That being said, fruit cup honeydew is never good. In honeydew's defense, I think none of the fruits in a fruit cup are particularly good. A good comparisons is a strawberry. I don't think I've had a sweet strawberry in a fruit cup ever, but strawberries are also one of my favorite fruits.
I believe that fruits like honeydew gets a bad rap cause some people's first or only experience are from side dishes at restaurants, and more often than not, it's when fruit is at its worst, and I just to clarify that this is not the true honeydew experience.
(Also everything I said also applies to cantaloupe. Honeydew is the topic of the day, but cantaloupe is my favorite melon. My melon tier list is cantaloupe -> honeydew -> watermelon. That being said watermelon is still up there for me. Any other melon that didn't make it on the list abstained cause I haven't tried it.)
