- Stone Cold Steve Austin did not appear at WrestleMania 40 after WWE had hinted at that possibility during a parking lot fight between The Rock and Cody Rhodes. What was the real reason Austin wasn't at the show? Did the company actually have plans for him to interfere in Cody's match against Roman Reigns? And was The Undertaker the right choice to interfere against Rock? Blake shares his thoughts on the recent report of Austin's absence and why it could have been one of the biggest pops in WWE history.

Undertaker IS Wrestlemania.
Him coming out to remind the rock of that makes more sense than steve austin coming out.
I think Taker works better, ironically because his entrance would have taken too long, with Taker it was perfect with the lights going out and him showing up behind Rock. Also I personally feel like Taker is more believable to intimidate Rock at this point. It would have been awesome to see Rock and Austin trading blows and one more final stunner for Rock to sell but I’m fine with how it went down.
My thoughts exactly 👍🏾
Austin makes more sense on night 1 to screw rock since he was in the match
I was a bit bummed out that Austin didn’t show up but hey, Undertaker coming out of nowhere and choke slamming Rock was hype as fuck. Would have been even better if Taker wore his Deadman outfit.
Fr, was a lil silly he was just in sweat gear, at least American badass outfit would've been cool
don't push it guys
I think Taker makes more sense. He actually has history with both ppl
@@chaseclarkemusicwhich was funny because just kinutes before he appeared in the ring, he was with his family and friends in the VIP booth watching the show. He didn’t tell anyone and slipped out the room to make his appearance. So that’s why he was in sweats, he was just chilling with his family.
I was in the stadium, and you could feel the anticipation for Stone Cold. I can tell you with a fair amount of certainty that NOBODY expected it to be Taker even though he sat in a suite and waved at the fans prior to the start of Night 2. Everybody knew he was there, yet somehow nobody thought it would him.
I think undertaker gave the bigger pop, purely because it was unexpected.
....naw. punks pop coming back was still bigger. Austins theme would have been a huge pop.
People would of lost there minds even knowing the glass was about to shatter
Undertaker is the greatest of all time 🙆♀️
@@truthsauceTaker pop was bigger
@@user-oh4kq6cg4qTaker is better
Maybe a hot take but here goes: As someone who was expecting Austin, hearing Taker’s bell ring sent shivers down my spine and my jaw to the floor. Whether intentional or not, they subverted our expectations and did so in a big way. The Undertaker is synonymous with Wrestlemania, and having him show up in the way that he did at “The Biggest Wrestlemania of All Time” seems like a no brainer in retrospect. It felt almost as if the ghost of Wrestlemania popped in, set things on the correct path, and then popped out of existence. For me, it made the moment feel bigger than just Cody vs Bloodline or Rock vs Austin. It felt like the entire history and future of Wrestlemania would be affected by the results of this match, and The Undertaker appeared as some kind of karmic God, setting things as they should be.
Same man I was so ready for Austin then gong and I shivered and look this may be a hot take but I CRIED while he chokeslammed rock
Don't forget that Roman took his yard! Taker got his get back!
💯💯
I agree😊😊
Agreed. 💯%
I just think the Undertaker being the ghost of vengeance that undid the injustice against Dusty’s kid was the most proper thing to do. It gave the event a magical kind of vibe.
Yessss... same thing I thought!! I think it worked perfectly!!
Austin would have been awesome but seeing undertaker was magical and amazing
But Austin would've gotten a bigger pop
It had to be undertaker. It’s wrestlemania. Darkness in the arena, the bell tolls of death. Classic.
Makes sense to me... American Badass teams up with the American Nightmare 😅
Taker got a HUGE pop!!!
But Austin's would've been bigger
But imagine that pop if we would've heard the glass shatter
I'm not taking anything away from taker. He is wrestlemania!!! BUT!!! It never was taker and rock. It's always been stone cold and the rock
For someone as well established as austin, seems like financial agreements is a half assed excuse. I feel like money really wouldnt have been a problem considering the scale of the event.
It's frustrating if it really was about money because that moment would have been legendary. Thanks as always for watching!
@@ProWrestlingReaction really is. Didnt he, just not long ago, put up kevin owens? Why wouldnt he do this for cody? Just doesnt make sense to me.
Also, no need to thank me, youre the one doing the work and making great videos. Consistently making great points and theories. Im here for it.
Love Austin. Greed is an Evil thing.
It's not public if he was paid fairly in his prime. People like Michaels are still working and they should have net worths of like fifty million dollars. Rock, deservedly made like 9 million in stock for one match.
@@sampleoffers1978 sure you can claim that, but then what about cena? He had no issues it seems and hes busy with all his hollywood projects making millions. Again, financial reasons do not make sense.
I was seriously happy with the Undertaker appearance. Steve Austin would have been wild, but Undertaker is one of my personal favs. It’s hard to imagine the disappointment over Austin not being there wasn’t fully made up for.
Either way iam cool with it I love them both but really it would only made sense for Steve austin for night 1 but taker makes sense for night 2 as he has history with everyone in the ring
I’m more upset Dustin didn’t show up like at all
He works for AEW.
Ok maybe Austin was supposed to be the guy BUT they kept pushing the Final Boss narrative for the Rock so to me it was fitting to use Taker as he is the true Wrestlemania Icon if u look at the wins/losses record imo... Thats not saying that Austin wont show up at some other time down the road because there are a few big money matches that are on the way... so we shall see
I think everyone needs to just be grateful for that moment for what it is. Everyone keeps talking about how they wish Austin was there but guess what? He wasn’t!! Just enjoy what we got because it was overall amazing and HHH made the most out of his first Wrestlemania!
HHH did an Amazing job with his 1st Wrestlemania
I feel Taker was a better fit for this situation anyway, Roman has defeated taker at WrestleMania than claimed "it was his yard now" in which Taker didn't give him that title so it was fitting that Undertaker was the man to stop The Rock and they had heated rivalries between 1999-2003 so there was definitely chemistry for a Undertaker and Rock moment. I was thinking Stone Cold but Taker is even better because he truly is the WrestleMania final boss with a 22-2 record or is it 23-2 either way is no bigger icon in history business at WrestleMania than the Undertaker.
Austin missed out. Undertaker leveled up. Classic historical event
End of story
Fuckin right, they finally got something right
you guys should know not to listen to the Observer at this point..
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅 FUCKING LAME ASS 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣😂🤣
Looking back at that moment I found it so hilarious The Rock talking sht while The Undertaker is standing behind him🤣🤣
We were screaming feeling like children again anyway that pop is arguably the biggest pop in WWE history n the surprise was great nobody expected that
I felt like Taker was better anyway Taker is wrestlemania, he has history with Roman, Heyman, Rock & his entire family, not to mention we never had a Taker/Rock WM moment ever n now we hot one whereas we have multiple Rock/Austin WM moments
Lastly Undertaker has always been the locker room leader if anyone got outta line Taker put him in check & he's always been the real final boss especially at WM it was perfect
I’m glad that Austin didn’t show up. If he did, his pop would’ve overshadowed Cody’s moment. Granted, it would’ve been a greater “Oh Shit” moment but it would’ve been fans all talking about SC making another return opposed to Cody winning the title.
Kinda nitpicking but it was kinda odd that the bloodline folks weren’t surrounding the ring from the beginning, considering it was “bloodlines rules” and that they instead came out in a planned manner one by one.
it was a cheesy way to make them look dumb, same as roman deciding to hit seth with the chair, instead of protecting what he claimed he truly coveted most, those championships, as it centers around his heel turn and whole gimmick, just dumb
Agreed
I kept anxiously waiting for someone from the bloodline to show up at any moment since it was blood line rules. It took much longer than I anticipated
Taker being the last appearance made sense as he is Mr Wrestlemania.
1:40 Skip the recap
Story wise, it honestly made more sense for Taker to show up
How?
@@gregdebacker4998 yes, stone cold & the rock are the greatest rivalry in WWE history; however, taker being defeated by Roman at WrestleMania while also having past issues w/ the rock makes it make more sense. Story wise at least
@@_thenamesmoe WOW! Spot on! I totally forgot about that fact!
That stunner would not have hit like it would back in the day. The Final Boss ain’t Hollywood Rock. Taker makes more sense tho
I think all the real final boss and final boss of Wrestlemania line makes MUCH more sense. Like I was hoping for Austin, but I'm not disappointed at all. And you possibly keep Austin available at another time when somebody else doesn't make sense.
Cena fighting with Roman for years and now Solo.
It's just not the right time for him to get there.
And, of course, we know there have been long issues with Austin making a physical appearance. I wish they would have him on as a GM or commentary though.
It's a damn shame they couldn't come to a agreement, as Austin doesn't really fit the story 100% but the hype and roar behind the entrance of him would of made mania probably one of the best ever, great content as always 😁👍
"IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME!" 😂
- Dolph Ziggler
“What about me? What about Raven?”
Undertaker was a great fit. Taker has come face to face with all the bloodline, from Yokozuna, Rock, Rakishi and Roman. 🤙🏽😀
Amazing you pickup on the teasers. All the belt changes and Ripley getting hurt sure has improved the show excited for smackdown tomorrow
Hey bro I like your content you should be at 10k. I also like your backdrop. What is it made of?
You got it the wrong way around brother, it's THANKS to Austins absence that we actually got Taker. Nobody compares to his legend, not even Austin.
It also makes more sense storywise because Undertaker has history with practically *the entire Bloodline family,* from Jimmy Snuka to Yokozuna, Rikishi, the Rock and Roman Reigns. It was an epic Wrestlemania moment that will be remembered for years to come ^^
You Look Like Eminem And Ashton Kutcher Had An Oops Baby Together
You guys are caught up with Rock and Austin. When you look at the storyline and connection, Undertaker was the perfect character; rock is a “final boss” in the story not as rock we know from his legendary career. The “final boss” character is like a God, he says and do anything he wants and that’s final and no one can stop it. So what character can neutralize or take down this “FINAL BOSS” Godlike role not as Rock? It was the dead man, the undertaker; appear and disappear like an advocate. If it was a Rock character it more logical for Steve Austin to come in but you all are just caught up with the glass shattered, a stunner and Steve start popping beers; that’s just for excitement doesn’t fit in to the story. The undertaker character was the perfect one to take out the tyranny nature of the “FINAL BOSS”
Good reasons buuuuut taker himself even said that it wasn’t finalized until halfway through Sunday night’s event. Soooo I’m led to believe that it was originally supposed to be Austin coming out to ultimately seal the bloodline’s fate
The real REAL reason, my son informed me of a couple days ago. So Stone Cold can’t come and attack The Rock, because Stone Cold correctly guessed what The Rock was cooking, which was popcorn. Now they’re best friends and they ride around in an ATV together.
The Taker throat thing?...is he referring to Taker's throat slash signifying its Tombstone time?
Also Austin just did his final match two years ago and Undertaker did have that no last pop moment cause his final match was Covid no crowd…..
The documentary on Steve Austin went into this. It sounded like Steve Austin was ready to retire due to health.
Had to be Taker.
The darkness after the gong...and his appearance was Gold
C’mon man, Meltzer sucks, don’t mention his name on your show
Exactly.
minute 3:48 " A lot of us would've just become children again ". great quote :D
Just found this page. Had to sub
I was lucky enough to be there and to meet taker.... so I kind of thought he might come out. It was an epic finale and a once in a lifetime event 🎉
Austin would have been cool as hell but he wasn't running down the ramp like Cena and honestly the spot called for someone being in the ring immediately so the change to Taker worked better in this situation
Austin doesn’t fit the story to me… The undertaker was perfect to me seeing that Roman beat him at Wrestlemania
At that moment it didn't have nothing to do with Roman, at that moment it was the rock and to me it should of been Austin because of the history with the rock. The undertaker has history also but not like Austin. So Austin in that segment should've been him but you can't go wrong with the back up plan.
😝🤡
@CultsAndFalseDoctrineExposed it’s Roman’s story
Don’t get me wrong. It was an amazing moment. Something that I will never forget seeing the undertaker show up at wrestlemania doing what he did but story wise it makes zero sense I don’t care what anybody says look back at the attitude era the undertaker and the rock what they may be had two fights, and none of them were at any major pay-per-view so don’t come here telling me they had a few OK doesn’t make sense. Austin makes much more sense stunning the rock I don’t care what anybody says and for you people saying oh it makes complete sense because undertaker lost to Roman at wrestlemania so what the undertaker has nothing to do with the story, plain and simple
Only way I see Austin fitting in is his previous rivalries with the rock
I was happy it didn't work out for those that like to predict every move the WWF is going to make. I like to watch without knowing what will happen.
I wasn't even expecting the Undertaker and when I heard his gong I said WTF?! 😂
Not sure why everyone is down on Taker in that spot. Yes, it would've been great had Stone Cold appeared, but its not like Taker doesn't make sense. Taker was the 1st & biggest opponent for the Rock & Sock Connection, they had several big fueds & unlike Austin, Taker actually had history w/ Reigns, which ultimately, was what this was supposed to be about. Finishing the Story wasn't about stopping the Rock. It was about beating Reigns & Taker actually had motivation to make that happen. Austin didn't.
Taker returning to chokeslam The Rock makes sense because he's always been the locker room leader. I jumped out of my chair when I heard the bell toll! 😁
Taker was perfect. This is not a missed opportunity to me. Rock was massive and Taker dwarfed him. Loved it.
It would've caught everyone by complete surprise had Outback Jack rolled out to his music. Is he even still alive?
That's insane!!! You pay him however much you have to. Taker was an unexpected surprise, but Austin still would've been crazy even tho it was expected.
For me it is difficult to understand why WWE advertised with Austin when there was still no deal.
The crowd was not as loud as I believe it should have been
“We know why…”
It was reported by fucking Meltzer. Very reliable.
According to the undertaker they were shooting ideas for the match and asked taker if they decided on it would he be willing to do something.
I didnt mind at all it being the undertaker who showed up but The Rock sells the stunner like nobody else and that would have been awesome to see again. The way the Rock sold Roman's spear in night one was hilarious!
We don’t know what that truck was particularly advertising. It may be a truck that advertises the WWE in general or the WWE network.
But my guess was, I said to my cousin that I thought stone cold was gonna show up and stop the rock. Or triple h.
The undertaker bells are the only sound beyond the glass shattering that could’ve had that type of pop. Either would have been awesome. They got one of them. That’s all that’s important. It was an incredible moment either way. Would the glass shattering have been better. Who knows. It was almost perfect the way it went so how would you know.
Austin should have come to Wrestlemainia to represent his era. Cena and Rock represented their era. It would have been fitting ushering in Cody’s era. Passing of the torch kinda thing.
Taker was the perfect fit. Throughout his whole career he’s been known as the judge and equalizer. Seeing how the Bloodline has always operated with strength in numbers and abuse of power it was fitting that the most respected man in history returned and made sure Cody evened the scale.
If that's legit then Steve lost some respect from me. Taker is amazing. Love him. But Austin coming out would of made that finish maybe the biggest in history. That place would of went off. Fan angles show fans chanting for Austin. Why would he not want to be a part of that? Wow
After the uso's fly off the stage, 1 brother giving the other a spear. It wouldve been badass if the camera panned to the stage entrance and dustin was standing there. Runs down helps out his brother until solo shows up with a weapon taking out dustin and cody. This would set up cena, than the rock than austin. At the end dustin recovers giving roman a finisher that leads into codys 3 crossroads. That wouldve been the best. The biggest disappointment wssnt no austin, it was no dustin. Especially considering the family vibe the match had.
It was like Cody was in Streets of Rage five and he’s fighting Mr. Rex at the end, and he hits the a button for all his specials. He went through his Cena special finish and finish them off with the undertaker special. At that point Cody was all out of SP( or rather his stamina Was damn near depleted, but yeah, just enough in the tank for three crossroads! However, I’m sure we all would’ve loved him to deploy the “glass shatter”… I think a Undertaker finish out of nowhere through him, a little, more offguard and insured his defeat there.. Down goes Rocky! And the defeat, the defeated final boss, Mr. X, The Rock, was out of the picture, Followed by What I would like to dub “The End of the Rhode!”(3 CrossRhodes) Which officially saw the Empire of Roman, the one that The Tribal Chief ruled with a Fist of iron. So yeah that’s y Austin couldn’t be used! Lmao!!!!
I was just thinking damn undertaker not being at mania is crazy then boom he shows up!! As Mark Calloway at that 🔥
That would explain all the f-bombs Rock had in all his promos
I was there live and I was sad that Austin didn't show up althouGh he was spotted in the airport in Philadelphia
It worked out better IMO.. Taker is known as the locker room leader, and judge of wrestlers court... Stories of him holding HBK accountable to do business. His presense felt like he had the authority to put an end to the run ins, it was like ENOUGH let them finish the match clean. And he did it in like 10 seconds and he was gone.. Austin wouldve taken 5 minutes to get to the ring, and his character has no motivation to help anyone.
Stone Cold still makes more sense than Undertaker.. The one person that has always given The Rock problems especially at Wrestlemania! Taker and Rock never had many feuds.. even Triple H made more sense given their history and the power struggle they appeared to be having at the kick off press conference. Taker made more sense to choke-slam Roman. I go back to Backlash 2000 when Stone Cold returned to help The Rock win the title. He could have been used the same way but to take out the bloodline and stun The Rock to help Cody
Yes thy have a feud in 2002
They could do the Austin run-in for the big match where Cody faces The Rock at either Summerslam 2024 or at Wrestlemania 41.
I was in attendance for Night 2, I was dissapointed we didn't get Austin doing the run-in against The Rock. I have never been at a show where he performed or did a run in, but I did meet him and he autographed my poster of him at WWE Fan Access in 2002 before Wrestlemania 18.
I was actually sitting in section 117 and almost everyone in my section noticed that The Undertaker and Michelle McCool were sitting in a sky box right behind us with their baby.
its important not to force stone cold to do anything, back then if you talked like that, stone cold would punch you hard on the face, and wouldn't care if you cried, he would just drink beer in your face
Everyone talking about money and other theories. I think it’s as simple as SC knew they wanted a stunner and he physically can’t really do it anymore. Nor does he want to. So he says some crazy # and the pivot to Taker. Worked fine and in the full picture still worked. The pop was huge even from fans screaming “glass break pls”.
nothing to do with this video but just thought of it they should have Finn balor win money in the bank and have him with the temptation of cashing in on Damian
Austin would've definitely overshadowed the moment for Cody. Im sure they'll give it another shot when The Rock returns for Cody and does more Final Boss shit
I don't believe the Financials angle being the reason Austin didn't show. Rock has a TON of pull now in WWE being he sits on the TKO board. Him and Austin are also friends, and wanting it to be the biggest/best WM they would've hashed out a deal and made it work for business. My assumption is Austin didn't wanna be 1 of many to show up to interfere with the match. So...creative differences is prob what resulted in him refusing. He's always been kinda petty about protecting his character.
Taker was a great choice and has more wrestlemania history than Austin but yeah. If that glass had shattered the pop would have DESTROY Lincoln Arena. You are absolutely RIGHT that everyone would have been a tween - teenager in 1997 lol I'm 43 and I marked out like nobody's business
The best rivalry is WWE was Stone Cold and The Rock and they ended it in the best way years ago, both were at their prime and at that moment, they had a great run and people watch the end of their rivalry knowing how special it was and witness a perfect end... I think it's better to leave it at that and not go back again and again and ruin it
Man.
What about the pop when the gong hit....
I think it makes sense for the gimmicks. Even the Final Boss has to meet the Undertaker.
The undertaker cameo isnt as good for the story as austin. He was never really much of a baby face. Austin's entire character was based on going against management. And the rock taking on the final boss character, how he was trying to screw over cody and threatening to fire the refs, it would have been perfect for austin to be the one to attack the rock
Austin also had the montra of DTA, Don’t Trust Anybody. He did things on his own, not as part of a collective, sometimes to the character’s detriment in storyline but it makes more sense for Taker being that 1. Reigns beat him at Mania. 2. Given his history, he’s basically the keeper of Wrestlemania. A force to bring balance to the wrestling world. 3. Who’s been the locker room leader for the past 25 years? Not Rock, not Austin, but Taker. It makes sense that Taker makes sure the boys don’t overstep their bounds. In character, Rock’s head was too big as the “Final Boss”. If anything, Taker is the ultimate Final Boss of wwe, at least on screen.
well i mean Taker would have more history with both Roman and Paul Heyman rather than Austin
Raw 1000 and Wm40 are the 2 biggest missed opportunities by Austin. Wish it wouldve been him but Taker was a great replacement.
Honestly Undertaker for this bloodline story made more sense this time around.
i really wanted to see austin come out and drink beers with cody after cody won the belt, but im glad it was taker cause i was more shocked, i dont like to know everything thats going to happen but i like to try to figure it out beforehand at the same time
austin is selfish to cody
Rock had a pretty esteemed rivalry with Taker as well.
Austin fit more because he's anti-authority, and it made sense standing up to the Rock (being on TKO board), and helping babyface Cody Rhodes beat Roman.
The Undertaker's streak is legendary and WrestleMania it's only fair for the Undertaker to show at match intake since
Austin knows the business is all about money so if the right quantity aint there then its a no go! It has happened before too so no surprise.
austin is selfish, he don't wanna helo cody, and put cody over to replace him and cena and hogan and the rock, smh
@@theonlygoodonehere2259 Austin got nothing else to prove in the ring. He’s done it all. So he can do whatever he wants.!

Dan St Germain: 'Jan 6th Undertaker'.
The place would’ve went wild if Steve Austin came in just hearing that glass break would’ve made it a hell of a lot better for me
Well disappointment that Austin didn't show up aside, I personally thought it was the greatest thing when the gong hit.
Don't forget Taker and Roman share a history.
To me it makes sense.
Taker gave it a new meaning... Ive always seen rock triple h and Austin as equals. Taker was always above them. Rock wouldn't be afraid of Austin but rock was afraid of taker. Also another meaning it shows even though taker is done he is still the dead man the ghost of WrestleMania that haunts the ring when things don't go right..
I do like Undertaker but a kick to the nuts and stunner would have been even more neat. We do know that Austin has have health issues and I get it that WWE didnt want to spend a ton of money for 5 seconds.
People trying to justify Undertakers inclusion from a story sense are reaching. He was there because Brock and Austin weren’t available. But it was cool. Would have been better in gear but it didn’t matter really.
Stone cold and the rock would’ve been awesome, but I think undertaker was more poetic and more memorable things happen the way it should have.
They are saving Austin the rock, and Cody is not done. I do believe if Austin was there, it would have taken away from Cody. That’s why Undertaker was there, hit the choke slam, and gone, then back to Cody. In my opinion, the rock is finally bringing back the attitude era. Stay on that ride.
Austin coming out to lay out the Rock and then Undertaker coming out to choke slam Roman would have been good too
Financial differences yeah we all could've saw that not disappointed I knew it once the GONG hit what happened to the deal coming
Why didn't they give Cena just a little bit more of an edge. God that was so depressing "you can't see me" then down and you know someone else is coming.
Having the undertaker was a good replacement, but it’s a difference if you got the rock in the ring, and that glass breaks !! The Austin pop would’ve been more insane than getting taker. Literally, Austin would’ve got paid a quarter of a million maybe even half a million for a 30 second spot to deliver a stunner so the rock can flip over one last time to a stunner having perhaps one last moment together. The undertaker made the spot dope but Austin would’ve made it just a bit more special 😩. He post online shoveling horseshit, chilling with the cat, and chickens but couldn’t accept more money than the average person will make in a year for 30 seconds is selfish to safe. Also, To have a moment that would’ve been crazy, especially for the 40th wrestlemania. It would’ve been even more dope to the fact that Austin didn’t care that the rock is a boss and he can still get a stunner. We fans will forever miss out on that, and I’m sure he probably regret it or will one day. But even though Austin was selfish, WWE is making more money than ever so perhaps they could’ve matched Austin Price so we could’ve had that moment so I blame both sides. But shout out to taker for taking it🙌🏾!
austin is not obligated to help get cody rhodes over
I dknt believe the report but the story isnt finished yet as far as rock and cody. The austin rock moment can still happen
