      Yes. The first thing that I thought when I watched this is - This guy is a freaking idiot. He comes across as...well..not very bright and you would have thought he would be learning skills and building experience to come to a point where he makes less mistakes. But no. I started watching this channel months ago and I have given him the benefit of the doubt so far, but he seriously crossed into annoying in this episode. I will keep watching a while longer as I am interested in the boat, how Becks puts up with him if he is like this all the time, is beyond me.

    Nice new steps Becca . The only problem is the back board of the steps needs some holes in it or some kind of vent , if no air can circulate in the bow thruster area any moisture , however it gets in there , will not be able to dry out . The Crobot's will work it out no doubt . Nice rubber snake Chris :-)

    Hi Chris and Becca. During a course of enforced bed rest you channel was one of those random Utube suggestions (I had absolutely no interest in boats narrow or otherwise) but watched it anyway.
    Now I'm subscribed and enjoy watching previous episodes.
    It's not the content it's the presentation that makes it entertaining, informative and enjoyable.
    Great stuff!!!

    Before you put the steps back over the hole to the bow thruster. You may think about putting some holes to vent the area.
    An old trick for your curves. Use a bottle or jar or a glass to make your curve.

    If it was me, I’d leave the insulation for now. It’s impossible to prevent water from getting into the welldeck from time to time. It needs welding up properly really but in the meantime I’d just pump out the water that’s collected every so often.

Beccs you spoke about ventilation for the steps before, are you still doing it? You really are talented mate I so wish I could do what you can do. I’m feeling sick re that water, did it get in some how with the rain? I know it’s selfish but I miss seeing you guys a few times a week, I know how hard and time consuming it is Chris, I’m just saying I miss it, you two are my entertainment, love watching you. Haha!!!! Some are calling him Chris Dundee!!! 😂 Yes Pauline that's definitely the idea. My plan is to put a vent at the top and one at the bottom to allow for the circulation of air which will hopefully help to keep condensation at bay 🤞 Aww thank you so much 🥰 I feel that's generous but I try give things a good go.
      Ahh that ruddy water! It's so difficult to know. I do know it had definitely been raining heavily a few days before and that I'd left the catch cover open so it's feasible that water got onto the well deck and then seeped in from there as we know it does but it's so har dot know for definite. It has been dry in there for months now. Aww that's such a lovely thing to say. Hopefully in the future when we have more time on our hands we will be putting out more episodes a week but at the moment we just have so much on its tricky. Fit a louvre vent to the bottom face of your steps and another in the upper face of the steps, this will help ventilate the closed off area. Condensation is caused by extreme temperature differences. Keeping the bow thruster 'void' at a similar temp to the rest of the boat will help. I expect it can get very hot under the canopy.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot

    Here's an idea for you that's cheap and easy (apart from access contortions!) to do- dry off the tube, wrap it with dry corrugated cardboard from old boxes, then get a few rolls of clingfilm and wrap the whole lot with that as tight and thick as you can.
    The cardboard to a) retain water that might come from a leak in the tube b) provide some insulation to help prevent condensation on the tube.
    The clingfilm is to a) keep the card in place b) prevent any water from the tube evaporating on the outside c) prevent any damp air touching the tube that might cause condensation d) keep it dry from any leak from the deck above.
    Leave it there for a week or so, then grab a stanley knife and cut a line along the top, remove it, and see if the cardboard is wet/damp.
    The tube would really worry me, if there's a tiny hole that's actually just a bit of rust over a bigger one then you could have a real problem.
    You got the boat surveyed eventually, did you not? if so, did it cover the thruster tube? You'd hope so! Might be worth checking?
    Anyway, all the best with it!

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  Год назад

      Wow thank you so much for this awesome suggestion. It's sounds like a great idea and we are willing to try anything that will help us finally figure out where the water is coming from. We did get it surveyed but no it didn't cover the bow thruster area other than the openings on the exterior of the hull.
      Many thanks again for sharing your great idea with us. We will try give it a go! 😊

Good luck with the steps .... Epic work on the steps Becks! Just a thought on the bow thruster area…it sounds like the water came in when the cover was off, so obvs there’s some work to do in the deck above, but with regards to the condensation, in addition to ventilation & lining with the gym mats how about keep a couple of little dehumidifiers in there at all times. I think they can be bought at Asda for less than £1.50 each and that would also help to keep things drier. Anyway, just a thought. Love the channel you two, keep up the good work. It's on the rather hefty 'to do' list!! I think you guys will find that your thruster tube has dodgy weld.
    From a welders point of view i think you would be best to lift your boat from water and replace complete thruster tube giving you a chance to fix the mechanical problem too.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much for your thoughts. Do you not think if the weld was dodgy we would uniformly see a leak though? This is what always baffles me... It has stood now for months without a single drop of water in there until the other day. Then I find myself realising that it had been raining heavily a few days earlier and I'd left the catch cover open there water had got onto the well deck. We know it seeps into the compartment from here so then I talk myself out of it being the bow thruster tube again! So frustrating but interested to hear what you think?
      I think that would be a great shout though if it does turn out to be the tube that's the problem. Thanks so much 😊

    • @tomthumb6824
      @tomthumb6824 Год назад

      @@TheNomadicCrobot it's hard to say really, if one of your welds has a crack in it, then when metal slightly warmer than normal it could allow water to seep in from canal.
      That would tie in with the fact you had water coming in while you were using your heater.
      Personally i think best idea would to dry dock your boat and get a welder to Xray your welds around thruster tube this will show up Cracked, Porous and or Broken welds.

    The bow thruster area is annoying me now, we need a solution!
    Is there some sort of drain in that area which isn't working or is blocked?
    I'd check all and any gaskets-especially where the bow thruster motor goes into the bow thruster tube this would be a boat out the water job. That main gasket might just be sealant rather than a gasket you can buy and replace. It may have come away due to age or maybe getting something stuck in the bow thruster propeller, making the whole unit move about and breaking that seal, or even bending the holding bolts. This unit could also be moving slightly as you both in and out of that area to seal and paint. This would explain the long dry period then slight leak. Try gently, very gently moving that unit, if it moves at all, that is your issue. Don't use your domestic sealant, use a marine sealant and make sure its for metal hulled boats not fibreglass.
    Tighten the bolts that attach the motor to the bow thruster (flange) - this could be done in water if you knew what you were doing-remember if you take the bow thruster out - you sink.
    Finally, with metal epoxy putty, fill any slight hole, rusty bit or even possible could be hole, in the deck above the bow thruster that you see, especially around the door frame, where metal meets metal.
    Can you take some good photos of around where the motor attaches to the bow thruster and what and where all the tubing and electrics are and go to and post on line somewhere?
    Why doesn't the bow thruster work any more this could be critical in finding your leak, can the budget stretch to getting someone out from the company to check it out, quote to get it working and check that gasket.
    Chris snake really, you are afraid of spiders!
    Becca steps are work of art.
    Thanks for the inspiration and laughs.

      filling in all the holes on the deck would be a great idea...ourold surveyed told us to just run some paint over it and it would seal alot of the holes. I will try get some better footage/photos of the bow thruster area, it's a hard thing to try and get into.

      @@TheNomadicCrobot the leak would only happen when the motor moved a little either through you gettin in there or does the door touch the motor or something like weed or stick gettin in the bow thruster tube or a snake 🙂. Both jobs are boat out of water so Id get to dry docks and ask them to check the gasket, if its not that weld the tube shut, even have the motor and tube removed and get extra storage its going to cost either way but a gasket would be cheaper

    Hurting the snake by swirling it around was completely unnecessary and not funny.

      It was a rubber prop snake.

      It was a joke. Or his version of a joke. A prop snake. A toy. And mugging for the camera. Mind you it did look like a real snake. I wonder what sort of snake it is, as its a bit big for an adder and its in the water as well. If it bites you , you will know about it. Might be a rat snake as they are now found around London canals and have become established even though they are not natives of the UK. They dont have venom so cant kill you. Still I would not want one slithering in one of the boat windows.....
