Folkston is a shell of its former self since CSX went to PSR...barely half the trains that used to come thru every day. Still the best place within reasonable driving distance of most of Florida, but can't help feeling nostalgic for the good old days of train after train.

Late to the channel. A neat railfan location a bit closer to Boston is in Chester, MA (West of Springfield just off Route 20.) We stayed a few nights in the Caboose at the old Chester station, and could watch the trains all day and night if we wanted to, right from within the caboose. Mostly Auto-rack trains, but also the Lakeshore Limited twice a day, and some other freight. Can hear the horns well off because of the way the mountains funnel the sound down to the station.
