I've read that FF7 was a barely functional bunch of code, held together with chewing gum and prayer, but this is pretty ridiculous.
Whats happens if the duplicated materia exceeds the limit of how many materia youre allowed to carry?

I had an action replay cheat engine thing when I was a child playing it on my ps1. First game I ever bought. Anyway, there were a bunch of codes that set cloud's weapon to whatever corresponding number/letter, can't remember, were the last 2 in the code. About half of the spaces were nail bat.
@@davidwilson6577 dude, the Debug mode cheat in that game was absolutely ridiculous. I remember the first time I went over and talked to Barrett in that uncanny dark room.. He said a bunch of garble and then teleported to me to Corel prison before the game glitched out and crashed. Felt like a creepypasta before those existed lol.

For such a solid game it's crazy to hear that the code is slapped together and barely functioning. It has a great polish.

@davewebster5120 Yeah, this was back in the golden era when developers cared about that sort of thing. Now they know they can release a pre-alpha as a "full" game and just patch their way to microtransaction nirvana
@@davewebster5120 I wouldn't say it's really "slapped together" so much as these seem to be all oversights that would probably just pop up in one of the first 3d RPGs. The sheer amount of dialogue and scenery you have to direct, combined with the lack of playtesting means that it's almost certainly going to work, just in unintended ways. The scope of RPGs are the difficulty in creating them and FF7 has, objectively, a LOT going on, especially for a time before a lot of standards in the genre were adopted.

Yeah sure. 99,99% of every person that has played the game has done so without experiment any glitches. Mind you, this is before updates were usual/available.
To be fair it's held together a lot better than you're giving it credit for lol. You really have to go out of your way to break it

It still surprises me that more crazy glitches are still being discovered in Final Fantasy 7.
We are like 42 now still glitching this game lol.
At this point in time, I guess even in 2050, we'll still find new glitches in FF7.
FF7 is not year 2038 compliant, so it will be annoying to run after that.

i love how this glitches are getting more and more OP coz they stack up!! first it was just minor thing like being able to move when canceling text, but it turns out it leads to amazing glitches like kalm skip or double master metria:D this game is crazy. thx for upload! im pretty sure there are more insane glitches to be found in the future:D

The hilarious thing is that this is as convoluted as some of the 20 step Aerith revival methods we all spread as kids but which never worked... except this somehow does 😂
And now we have similar methods to actually revive Aerith, as well.
Leo from FFVI had a lot of rumors and made-up tricks about saving him, we also ended up getting that one eventually.

I'm starting to feel like there isn't a single line of code actually correct in this game. But all the wrong code together is like Mr Burns with his Three Stooges Syndrome! 😂😂
To be fair, FFVII was so riddled with bugs that it almost didn't happen. The devs just barely managed to get it into working order within a week of the final deadline.

I've been watching videos on FF VII lately, and I think I need another playthrough. I haven't played since 1998 when I ran up the clock to 99 hours and 59 minutes. God knows how long I've put into that game. Probably the best story of any game I've ever played.

hey i remember ive finished this game... but i dont seem to remember like at leat 50% the stuff i see when people run this game in YT... is it possible to finish ffvii without actually playing like some 50% of the story? like 50% of the game are sidequests that ive missed?

I’m sure the devs were just being cute with the code and thought it would be fun to have yuffie’s character actually run a command to give back the materia. They probably never considered that someone would figure out how to:
Stick a chocobo in the sand
Retrieve a second chocobo from the farm
Avoid a soft-lock by boarding Highwind immediately without walking
Land on Wutai
Dismount the chocobo which spawns the stuck chocobo
Trigger Yuffie’s side quest
Auto warp back to farm
Fight Diamond Weapon
Get through Midgar raid
Begin disk 3
Resume Yuffie’s side quest
Avoid another softlock by keeping her out of the party
Progress to a certain point in side quest
Put Yuffie in party in correct slot
Finish side quest triggering NPC Yuffie and party member Yuffie to give back materia
IN THAT ORDER

Do you think you'll have this much materia combination in the new FF7 game. I use to watch your old videos years ago on ff7 and the many in-depth tutorials. I just played the demo of rebirth and it seems not to be as well oiled as the original.'Yet time will be see I guess.
Well, as cool as double every materia could be, I have no trouble completing this game without it 🤔 still would be nice to not have to level up a bunch of double cut materia 😂
That's wild! Just play through 95% of the game, pull five different potentially game breaking glitches and Bob's your uncle ya got X2 materia!
With this glitch I don't think you can get Master Summon either (besides the Emerald weapon copy). Don't you get Leviathan from the top of the Wutai tower that you have to battle with Yuffie AFTER completing her side quest? Though that should be the only blocker for that one.

since i play only on pc, i think imma just use the standard materia smuggling glitch to duplicate any materia that i want, although u can only duplicate 2 materia at a time but its still super fast, super easy and can be done at any point in the game.. but i think this is great for those who play on other platforms..
you could just save yourself the time and use a save editor like Black Chocobo haha

I went through all the steps. I can have Yuffie in the party in wutai. I can’t have the other character in the party appear next to cloud when by the thumb. I’ve put her in different slots and tried different characters. I wonder if the Xbox One version was changed somehow. 24:54 UPDATE: We were only able to get it to work when we put yuffie into the party immediately after being trapped by her. We did the tower and then the Corneo part and then it worked. It seems like battling with her or having her in the party when Corneo captures her had something to do with the positioning near the thumb later.
This might be a next gen console thing, i have ps5 and your way worked for me

Good thing Steal Materia is so low on Yuffie's list, ironically enough. And the weapon you get to immediately steal (from a Weapon!) is for her too.
Time to call Bradygames and get them to rewrite the strategy guide.

Man, this randomly popping into my suggestions made me experience all the feels. I abhore the remake so I've been wanting to replay the only real FF7 for a while.
Having to wait so long into the game is sad, though. My OCD couldn't handle that. I would have mastered everything several times by this point so the glitch is redundant. FeelsBadMan.
It would've been great as a time saver for replaying FF7.
Imagine discovering this back in the late 90’s before media services. You would have to write a short book, or record yourself explaining it on VHS. Then send it in to a VG magazine like Electronic Gaming Monthly. If they decide to print it, it would be like a 5-6 page article on how to do it.
@59:00 My game crashes after diamond weapon due to the scratches, but if I swap on the fly my Disc 1 inside, the game goes on and when you step out of the scene after the fight it plays Disc 1 cutscenes from Midgar and Golden Saucer, and after the cutscenes are done, I just make another swap back to disc 2 while the game is on and... it just works. It's fun that you see nice gondola rides going and after that guys are terrified about the destruction it caused :D
Honestly, I wish I knew this back when my FFVIII disc was scratched. Could never get through the beginning FMV due to scratches. I went and bought a used greatest hits copy of the game. Never thought to swap out the disc and then select new game. lol
Hmm it just always bitched at me about wrong disc being inserted. Maybe cuz I was on the original Playstation.
Hilariously I already have a file with like Barrett full knights of the round Vincent all kills like 8 copies of master summon and magic enough master command to link hp mp absorb but hey … I think I could use a couple more phoenix final attack for some challenge runs 😂 so it’s time to grind my 8 year old master file
Cool glitch. Though any use for it outside of just using it for fun? Doesn't seem to be useful for speedruns, but might be for certain challenge runs I guess.

Man to think that I've re-played FF7 about 30 times since the 90's when I first played it (still the best FF game in the franchise in my honest opinion), and STILL never got kotr summon because I could never breed the right chocobo (and finding it too tedious to keep re-trying after a couple of failures).... XD

This is really cool, but I don't like the comments saying it's bad code, it’s not a case of “dumpster code” or bad code, you have to remember they need to be efficient with writing code and pointers. So having them all 6 for example more efficient a different number per character.
Also there should be no way that yuffie can be in the party twice so why would they code an edge case for that?
You can basically bring most materia to close to max, dupe them and then master both. BAM! 4 of each Materia.

At this point, someone should take a month or more, layout ALL the scripts, and find "exploitables" through simply doing some form of actuated flowchart playthrough...
I've played through every numbered FF through XV. I lost faith in SE when they broke their promise for all the XV DLCs. Seeing this video has me itching to play VII again.
2x KOTR is huge for max levelling, but even bigger - an Enemy Skill for every party member.
How many of those enemy skill ones do you have at this point then? 4? A pain to fly around getting all skills for everyone, though

He keeps saying "no materia", but you still have access to getting/using other materia right?
This would have been useful 8 years ago when I decided to make 7 mime and command counter materias to kill the Ruby Weapon in under 60 seconds.

While i think this is interesting, what is actually the point? I mean why not just use a save file editor and give yourself any stuff you want. You can't really use this stuff while speedrunning the game either i think because it will not save you any time. Enlighten me.
I love this, so close to Rebirth and the ff7 community is on tare! I cant wait for a new no slots skip and the speedrun community goes limit break mode

All those years of putting off playing FF7 have finally paid off.
For me to explicitely ignore this glitch.
Here's the big question. Can you SMUGGLE after doing this, and then duplicate again on another file? Absolutely forget picking up anything else, 48 materia. How crazy do you want to get? 7 characters, Master Skill/magic/summon, eskill and mega-all, 35 materia, what would you even spend the other 13 slots on?
Still... It took 27 years for it to be figured out.

I wonder if this was Squaresoft's first time or the team's first time using C++ but I imagine the tech demos on SGI workstation and then deliberating between N64 or PS was a brand new experience. Lots of state based bugs. Game still holds up despite "remakes" and still plenty of passionate fans. You love to see it.
this glitch is nuts, and I overall consider it to be a nice thing, but doesn't materia already duplicate itself when you master it?
Hang on... Does this mean it's possible to A) Grow KotR at double speed? and (more importantly) B) Get 8 100% completed Enemy Skills?

Eidos copied the code of the Playstation 1 original game too precisely is which has happened to all the version of ff7 from pc to ps4 ect.

I wouldn't call this garbage code, Chrono Trigger is coded the exact same way with regard to event scripting. Seems to just be how you go about coding a flexible engine for a JRPG. Or at least it probably was at the time, back when Square made its own engines.

Doing glitches like this never forget how the biggest Metal gear solid level skip glitch was found. 😂 some chick was playing it and i guess she wasn't that good and pulled out a chaff grenade and was right against the frozen door when you up the tower and blew her Character through it. And when speed runners caught on they beat a huge game in like 30 minutes. 😂😂😂 basically telling you to hand over the controller to your GF or wife sometimes cause she will probably figure out something developer's and speed runners couldn't in 20 years
Hi. I have a question. What is the difference between this duplication glitch and the double yuffie glitch found around 4 years ago? How was your materia not doubled then too?
So now you only need to get one set of master materia and you can get 2 of them for almost free. one from this and one from the kalm traveler.
a bit like Phantasy Star Online I&II's duplication glitch. basically the glitch can happen because the character, due to a specific setup, can freely move while looking at the items in a shop (which was not intended to happen) and developers did not foresee that.
in the end you open up two different menus which both look at your stack of items at hand. in one you drop it, in the other you still have it. then by carefully selecting the right option you deposit the same item in the bank and end up having two copies of the same item: one on the floor (can be picked up) and the other in the bank.
I know it's cheating but it can save a crapload of time (especially for rare or powerful items) and it's used in some speedruns.
This damn game came out back in 1997 and we're still finding glitches
It's not just your copy of ff7. Ps2 their lasers would malign over time. Adding to all kinds of nonsense.
Okay so watching up until 34 mins of the video what i was trying to figure out,
is a WHY this is game breaking in context? like is it a speedrun glitch that could help with that? or like is it just for casual play to help and stuff
also i did not ever reach this far in the game when i was kid i think i didnt even beat first disc because i was a young lad noob.

Just tried this glitch. Got the double chocobo. Had yuffie in party, beat weapon, went through midgar raid (non skip) then did wutai. Put yuffie in both slots but in both cases cid ended up being in the spot where yuffie was supposed to be at her house and the double materia glitch didn't happen. Not sure if its cause playing on ps5 but that sure was a waste of time
I JUST saw the original Yuffie glitch video. In that video you had her in the third member position, if you had put her in the second you would've discovered it back then? I'm trying to recall if this added any new steps. 🤔

I would assume this would work on mobile, no? I have a save file that I spent hours upon hours in the Junon hallway with the alarm grinding characters and materia. This would be a fun reason to go back. I got too depressed to continue after Aerith’s death and stopped playing lmao.
