I think my favorite part about this series so far is that neither Daniel nor Johnny are being framed as "bad guys." All you see are two adults who are struggling with the issues of adult life, albeit from different angles.
gokucrazy22 Exactly. I thought going into this that Daniel would definitely be more of the cocky antagonist, but he's been pretty humble and caring so far.
Through what I experienced growing up and now with my kids. You beat up the bully they leave you alone. Well that is untill some weak jerk gets a gun than it is something else.
I agree. I appreciate the way they fleshed out Daniel and Johnny's characters. They're complicated and morally ambiguous. Really impressed with this so far.

I was that that kid that doesn't talk, at peace with my depression, but also suicidal, and also walked up to a girl I liked in the cafeteria with her boyfriend next to her... Ahh good times. It was pretty good for my health. It built up my immunity to pain pretty good. ಥ ͜ʖಥ

@@raidernation4life834 Johnny says "Hey watch the car" when he interferes in the fight but you can tell from the looks that he was giving while he was eating his pizza that a part of him wanted to help Miguel. Ultimately, Johnny does end up saving Miguel by teaching him how to get rid of the bullies so yes you can totally compare the two.

Well, I trained taekwondo in the university. My Sabodnim took us to run a Mountain (one hour runing), before start the workout he questioned "Who is suffering asthma here?" Three guys (including me) lifted the hands, then the Sabodnim said "I don't care, if you even try to rest you will fight with me". The asthma never showed up.
The Cobra Kai will ironically save the next generation.

Not completely. I don't blame kids for being what they are today. Their is a reason for this. It all has to do with a cycle. Hard times create strong men, Strong Men create good times, but Good times create weak men and weak men create hard times. The cycle will eventually repeat.

times on TV. I've missed this characters on Jackie and Jaden's 2010 version of Karate kid

Very interesting character development. I like how they've mixed things up. Johnny is mentoring someone who was bullied, Daniel holds court with the bully in his house. This should be an intriguing dynamic.
I'm already seeing Johnny as the bad guy again. Have you noticed how he's abusing his student so far? First lesson, a kick to the gut. Then he denies the kid his asthma treatment, verbally abuses him during actual training, and has him doing useless tasks that don't teach him anything. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see anything redeeming in this Johnny character.

to be fair, Johnny does not know any other student teacher relationship. It´s the same way he was taught.

Ironically, Johnny making Miguel wash windows in a weird way was preparing him for the Miyagi do training in season 4 where he had to paint fences and wax cars as part of the training

24:20 this is why I love the show. Daniel hates Johnny. Yet when Johnny tells Daniel his daughter is hanging out with bullies, he believes him. Because Daniel knows Johnny wouldn’t lie about something like that.
Same goes for the later episode when Johnny says that his daughter crashed into his car (it was her friends) and the mother at least does the smart thing of challenging her daughter hoping Johnny is wrong, but knowing that an accusation has been made and she needs to address it. It’s a small touch to the characters. But it makes them feel like they are smart well rounded characters.

They may be rivals and may hate each other, but they trust each other since they knew each other for the last 34 years.

Man! I'm super late but this show is Everything I needed. Top to bottom it brings nostalgia, humor and purpose. Martial arts especially the traditional arts is a way of life. The lessons reach you mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Just as the show does. BRAVO 👏👏👏!

Oh my goodness I miss when this came out. I was so hyped up I’m 43 years old and I’m so happy when this came out. Obviously I was 38 when this came out but that’s amazing. Season 123 were amazing I mean I love the whole entire series, but the first three seasons were the best.

@@liamholloway-sw7eu Yes, Karate kid 2 and 3 were not that good, but Cobra Kai actually exceeded the definitive movie. The only problem now is that season 2 has a lot to live up to, and probably won't be as good as season 1, but if it is, the Karate Kid franchise will be bigger than it ever was.
Life upgrade nearly no second season is better than the first of any show because of expectation but I trust the writers and the actors to of done a great job

All 5 of cobra kai series are really brilliant, series 1 will be 5 years next year in 2023. Hope they make series 6 after a big cliffhanger at the end of episode 10 series 5. Love the film trilogy and series.
It's an incredible series and I grew up watching the karate original movies myself and Cobra Kai is just a breath of fresh air I'm so sad that it's going to be over because season 6 is the final season

episodes and I am already hooked on this show. I pretty much love contrast in series and Cobra Kai so far has shown a lot of that. The contrast between generations (Johnny and Daniel vs. Miguel and Sam) and the contrast between Johnny as a 'Sensei' and as a 'loser' is pretty funny. In the first episode I thought Daniel was now the bad guy. That was Johnny's POV only. This episode shows a little of Daniel's POV and it reminded me how there are no bad guys or good guys completely, just different perspectives. Their rivalry until this episode is pretty much clear and I am hyped about next episodes. Let's see then.
