Great memories... The cars might be faster now but the racing and the 'characters' are no where near as interesting as they used to be. RIP Brocky. Hope your racing up there
Know this sounds crazy, but I shed a tear watching this. Moffat has always been a complete gentleman and Brockie, well there will never ever be another Aussie driver like him. He's the reason I love this category of motorsport so much. RIP mate.
I met Allan Moffat once and he was a prick. I know people have their off days, we're all human, but it was a meet and greet at a Ford dealer and the only word he could muster was a sharp "NO" when I asked him to wrtie "To Brian" on the Bathurst poster he was signing for me for my father-in-law. Yet there were dozens of clowns shoving Biante model cars under his nose and he was happily signing them and he must've known full well those model cars were on eBay that evening. My father-in-law used to watch him race from the earliest days of Bathurst, and used to be a massive Allan Moffat fan til that day, not so much now.
Imo Brock was overated...he only ever won or was competitive when he had the fastest Car...Jim Richards on the other hand Won and Was competitive even in a slower Car
i keep coming back to watch 0:27 , he's mid conversation and still manages 3 perfect heel toe downshifts, if that's not a natural gift at it's best, i don't know what is.
"Ahh yeah I can see you ! . You're looking abit relaxed" Understatement . Dude proceeds to mention turning a corner flat out at 280kph and saying it's just "Not Bad" .. absolute master driver
Aside from the fact it is Brock at work, I'm really impressed with how good his downshifts are. There are lots of clips on RUclips where drivers are much rougher and aren't getting the revs right when they blip the throttle on the downshift. To my ear, Brock gets it right every time. Back in the 1980's and after Brock drove Bob Jane's Monza, Pat Purcell, Jane's mechanic, stripped down the gearbox expecting to replace the dog rings as that's what he always had to do after Jane drove the car, but to his amazement he found they were in perfect condition - a testimony to how much Brock was "one with his cars".
Moffat was in the team with Brock in 86. I stood near them for an interview at Skyline in 95 and they were laughing and yarning for 10 minutes before the interview. Brocky then started giving autographs and Al just stood over to one side. I got to spend a few minutes talking to Al. He wasn't upset Pete was getting all the attention, he just stood back and enjoyed watching all the kids flocking to Brock. Then an announcement came on the PA system that Pete was doing autographs at a shopping centre in town in about 2 minutes time. Al just laughed and shock his head. They had to drag Brocky off or he would have stayed another hour. Pete gave as much to his fans as he gave to his racing.
anyone else noticed he couldn't find a gear just as he was coming up to Grifins bend as the camera cut away - said he was having some issues with the gear box and was a bit distracted by the commentary probably.
Holden had their last run at Bathurst yesterday. Even as a Ford man it was good to see the Holden take the victory. It just won't be the same without the Commodore.
They had to kneecap the GTRs, just like they kneecap Fords everytime they threaten/ed Holden. From their smaller V8 Toranas to the smaller bodied early C'dores and now "parity" because the Mustangs were demolishing them.
Such a very sad time for Allan Moffat now, Allan changed our racing for the better and safer, at a time when we saw him as a bit stuck up, he wasn’t stuck up, he was a professional driver, a smart and intelligent man, but more importantly, a Gentleman.
That was an awesome video. Makes it look so effort less. My favorite Aussie racing vid(and only one i really know) is the Volvo 240 group a vs the 635 csi at the Bathurst 100 in 1985.
I remember in an interview when asked about Peter Brooks death Alan Moffat Who is usually very composed lost it and right then I knew how much Moffat loved brock . Bloody sad .
God love you Brocky. It was so less intense in those days...I'd love how the drivers would do in-car lap interviews and say "Yeah I just lost 2 seconds that lap from talking to you, but anyway, what was that...???' Then crack a one-liner and reel off a record lap next lap.
@galahsaustralia - Sorry, only Perkins was running the "old Holden V8" that year, and it was banned by '94. Everyone else had gone over to the Chevy 5.0-litre for the start of what became V8Supercars.
NEVER try to talk race to Brock when he is in The Zone. I love how he takes the one hand on the wheel, off the wheel for a quick wave at 200+kmh. Just to show, sure it's a quick corner, but I know EXACTLY what this car is doing to the point whee I nearly don't often need to physically control it................People forget how good he was or make the mistake he wouldn't be able to mix it in the new, tougher, environment. He would eat them alive..............
I don't think the Holden 5.0litre was banned. I think most teams just decided to switch over to the more powerful Chev motor. And I though teams didn't switch to the Chev motor until the VR
Larry Perkins was the only driver to use the old Holden V8 in the new formula, as he reckoned it was a better engine than the SBC, and he ran it right up until the SBC was made mandatory, in 1995
They will never be as good as Brocky. As someone here comments the new lot too precious to talk on Camera. watching bathurst this year it really made me wonder why it wasnt the same and THAT lack of talking was the reason. Oh yeah and the sunrise wankers farking it up, I miss this bloke who always used to call it - maybe he's dead too.
Brock would have been happy he had no competitive car against him anymore that year...like GODZILLA and the SIERRA as he sat in the old Dinosaur asthmatic v8
"so what i'm doing is steering with one hand and then booting it!!"
I LOVE IT, WHAT A LEGEND!!
Great memories... The cars might be faster now but the racing and the 'characters' are no where near as interesting as they used to be. RIP Brocky. Hope your racing up there
“OH that was a nice little one, easy on that gearbox brocky!” Always gets me every time😂. R.I.P Brocky
Both true professionals RIP Pete, and Alan I hope the road ahead will always be smooth.
Know this sounds crazy, but I shed a tear watching this. Moffat has always been a complete gentleman and Brockie, well there will never ever be another Aussie driver like him. He's the reason I love this category of motorsport so much. RIP mate.

Yeah. He was an arrogant arsehole
I agree guys ,back in the day I worked at a very famous resort in Perth ,Allan moffat stayed there every time he was in Perth and was hatted
Imo Brock was overated...he only ever won or was competitive when he had the fastest Car...Jim Richards on the other hand Won and Was competitive even in a slower Car
Agree with others...Moffitt was an arrogant prick...typical Canadian
Turning the wheel with one hand. THAT'S driving.
Might be a Ford fan, but god i love Brock...
I might like the fords but I know who the king of the mountain is PB
i keep coming back to watch 0:27 , he's mid conversation and still manages 3 perfect heel toe downshifts, if that's not a natural gift at it's best, i don't know what is.

Check the smirk early on when he realises its Moffatt on the line!
Rip Peter, he is a true legend 😢
brockyyyyyyyyyyyy............legend.............never forgotten........................
Very funny. Obviously the rivalry between Moffat and Brock had lost none of its bite!! Awesome!!!

Neat down changes with double declutching--the correct way!

I remember seeing that one. Moffat most uptight person ever. It was touching when he lost it
Rivals on the track, friends off the track…
God love you Brocky. It was so less intense in those days...I'd love how the drivers would do in-car lap interviews and say "Yeah I just lost 2 seconds that lap from talking to you, but anyway, what was that...???' Then crack a one-liner and reel off a record lap next lap.
