I grew up with a rc10t electric. My dad and I built it, it was a blast. I always wanted a nitro because I like to fiddle and I just ordered one today. Can't wait to join the club.
i recentnly bouught one of these second hand. Hands down the best rc car i have ever owned! the good thing about buying 2nd hand is theey are already tuned!
Great review. I do however think some people overexaggerate how bad nitros are for new people. Electrics are definitely better for newcomers, but nitros arent impossible. The slayer pro was my very first rc back in 2012 when I was 11. Dad figured that I would learn a decent bit if i got a nitro, and I sure did learn lots! Still have this car to this day, and am actually in the middle of rebuilding the 3.3 :)
I cracked a tmaxx 3.3 connecting rod ones and took it as defeat, due to overheating.I know own 3 Revos one with a os21tm, 2 tmaxx and a jato 3.3 .I can say I have mastered this hobby and love working on these trucks. This is my next one just in time for Christmas
That’s awesome. I really like the vehicle. Great engineering. And if you run your more than once every 5 years it should be great! Lol! Thanks for the comments!
And King, I bought mine new, that is an after market exhaust, original is chrome, but that one is still after market. put over a grand of components and aluminum parts in to mine, but putting the 1/8th scale wheels on it slowed it down 20+ mph
@Travis... It has some hop parts from Traxxas.... Sway bars is really the only thing I think. Maybe the shiny rear exhaust. It may have originally been blue.
Just wanted to add im a kid and I have two nitros and I'm actually good at tuning and I just got the slayer for chirstmas of 2k16 and it's a best way better then my nitro sport hope you enjoy!post more videos!
+SKYLAR ONWILER Thank you for asking for more videos! I need to work on that! I'm glad you are successful at tuning your nitro vehicles! Sounds like you are a very patient person! Have fun!
I would never waste my money or time on electric. Electric cost more I think in the long run nitro is the way to go. I never had any issues with working on them. I have the Slayer PRO and stripped it down to the chassis and built it up with upgrade. I find working on them is relaxing. I also have a Nitro slash and two Losi SCT nitro trucks all in excellent condition. Nitro definably requires more work but worth it.
i have a dm1 spec and had it for 7 years cover the controller and radio to lithium an i only charger them 1 ever 2 months or so and i run it and put it up i never put after run in it it has the motor from nitrorcx .28 so far its the best one yet if you set it right it can be lest work then a electric until you need brakes and clutch. but i don't have to carrie batters and pull out the charger ever time all i have is fuel and the glow plug igniter is on board the car. i don't race it just have fun with it
Really good vid. I appreciate your candor here. Everything spot on. Good for you letting people know about this. I know little about full scale but run strong with this nitro stuff. Hope you still enjoying them!
im kinda new to the slayer although ive had a revo with the 2.2 motor just got my slayer a few days ago need a crash course on EZ start and break in progress can you help me ProjectKing
I am planning on buying my first nitro rc car. I have narrowed down my choices to the list below...what do you recommend? T-Maxx 3.3 Jato 3.3 Slayer Pro 4x4 PS: What is making it hard to choose is that I do not understand the difference between monster trucks and stadium truck and which one is more fun. Also if you do not agree with any of these what would you recommend?
Honestly I would recommend the Traxxas Revo 3.3. I think for general driving and just having fun it's the best Traxxas Nitro truck. The large tires and plush suspension make it great for running on any surface. The stadium trucks are more scale models. Their small tires make them more suited for smooth surfaces. The Revo will have no problem driving in short grass, etc. If I had to pick from your list I would choose the Slayer Pro which is basically a Revo chassis with shorter suspension arms and smaller tires. Good luck! Feel free to ask more questions.
+ProjectKing Thanks a lot for your reply. Unfortunately the revo is outside my budget 😣. Would it be possible to get the slayer and add bigger tires to make it more of a stadium monster truck?
Yes absolutely! And you could also add the Revo suspension arms and tie rods... Basically turning it into a revo. You can get tons of parts on EBay for very little $$$. The Slayer is a fun truck. So is the T-Maxx. Only reason I don't like the t-Maxx is the exhaust exits at side of truck. So it sprays oily exhaust all over the side of the truck.
Great video ProjectKing. I have a revo 3.3 nitro and am thinking of either getting the slayer and buying 4 mounted wheels and tires- street tires. My plan is to use the slayer for pavement and the revo for off road. Or instead of the slayer I was thinking of the Jato. Any advice?I also am having a heck of a time trying to find a street tire/wheel combo (already mounted) that will work with the slayer, thanks!
The slayer likes to flip on pavement really easily, so if you want to use a nitro on-road the jato would be a much better choice. The slayer is a really off-road oriented machine.
I know you probably wont see this. I am self taught in working on RC and have always figured out whats wrong with my electric 1/16 slash, but want a new car because the steering servos on it SUCK. I no joke have to reset them or replace them about every 5 minutes if im lucky. Should i get this car though. Im choosing between this or traxxas slash vxl 1/10 4x4. Cause slayer is cheaper and slower, but harder to work on, but vxl is faster and more expensive, but easier to work on. just hard for me to choose. THX!!
Ialso think it'd be cool to have a gas engine. Got the exhaust, the car noise. I want this one, but i just need to know if ill be able to keep it running or not.
If you buy a new Slayer and carefully follow the instructions you should be able to keep it going. Having a real engine is really cool on a RC vehicle. But it requires more dedication and work. The VXL is great if you just want to head out and have fun... very low maintenance and headaches. So it all depends on how serious you are with the hobby and how much time you want to dedicate towards it. (0:
Using auxiliary igniter allows me to keep glow plug hot while getting engine running. This is sometimes necessary when adjusting engines that have not run in awhile. I agree charging one extra thing is a hassle.
The diameter increase with this change is significant. Most likely you need to change the clutch bell on the engine to gear down gear train. The difference between new and old tire size will give you good idea on change of clutch bell required. Another option is to just install a Revo 3.3 clutch bell and see how that works. The Revo tires are very similar to a 1/8th scale diameter.
Quick question, I live in Chicago and I really want a nitro, but the thing is, will neighbors like it? Will the police not be pleased? Please help me. If no, I could get the traxxas Slash OBA. Thanks!
+Boosted RC Nitro fuel is made from methanol which is hygroscopic. It absorbs moisture from the air. So to avoid corrosion issues in your engine you should use after run oil or WD-40 when you have finished running your engine for the day. Thank you for the comments. (0:
I've been in RC since 2013... It's all been electric. I buy my own trucks and parts... I'm 14 and all of my trucks are electric... I think it's time to get a nitro 😎
So i have a rustler 2wd elestric pretty much barely above noob level, i had worked on a jato nitro rc and had alittle experience with that, they are QUICK but i need somthing less than 400 thats pretty much good for going back and forth on pave road, i would like a nitro thats is pretty easy to maintain, but i was wondering the eletric starters are they more expensive kit that the pull start rc, and are truggys a good beginner rc
+Chase I looked on Tower Hobbies. You can get a Slayer Pro 4x4 for $430.00. Plus they have some rebates I think. I like the Slayer Pro and Revo 3.3 because the exhaust exits rear of vehicle. This keeps vehicle MUCH cleaner. Nitro vehicles spray a lot of oily goo out their exhaust.

+Cameron Brand No it would not be good to run a nitro vehicle in much water. A small splash may not bother it but excessive water will cause major issues.
Its because nitro fuel is hydroscopic dont know if i spelled that right but what that means it attracts water so when left sitting inside your engine it will rust it all up and decrease the life of it wd40 is not really a lube its more of a water/moisture repellent its good to use when u gonna store your vehicle for a while but they also sell after run oil thats what i use on my motors and it helps alot
ProjectKing yes can you please make some with the traxxas revo 3.3 I just purchased a used one and I've had some experience with nitro before when I use to race and I'd like to see what you got going with yours if ou can
Those tires are terrible and your servo is junk. Take my word on this useful information. The servo will break on you during the hard turns. The car cant cant handle it's own weight. Metal gears will get the job done and better handling (turning radius)
ProjectKing thanks. I just bought one today. The guy I bought it from said it's been sitting for 6 months and I primed it and it fires right up. Sickest truck I've ever drove
Nitro heads, as we are called, are a different breed. Especially when you get in to 1/8 scale racing. It's definitively not for the feint of heart.

I ordered an OS carb for my tmaxx that bolts right up to the 3.3. makes tuning so much easier and holds a tune like you want.
That’s awesome! I need to look into that

Yeah the wheel diameter change is causing engine to lug. Need to change gear ratio to match tire diameter change.
@Travis... It has some hop parts from Traxxas.... Sway bars is really the only thing I think. Maybe the shiny rear exhaust. It may have originally been blue.
Nah the exhaust is stock i know as have had the slayer fir many years its wrecked niw hasn’t run in years cant afford to fix it but its a blast

This is gonna be my first nitro rc. The only thing I don't like are the small wheels. Even my Mini E-revo has bigger wheels (Louise ST Spider)

+Miguel Tamayo How close are your neighbors? Nitro is loud. Like a loud weedeater. It will draw attention. Not sure if the neighbors will mind or not.
If you use 30 percent nitro fuel the only thing you will have to do it clean the air filter it gives it more lubrication.

Yeah the glow plugs seem to be a weak spot.
