    F-5 is, in my opinion, one of the best modules in DCS, and my go-to recommendation for newbies. It gives you all of the simplicity of a trainer with the fun factor of being able to mix it up with *better* jets. The F-5 *will* make you a better pilot. Can't recommend it enough. =D

      Great to hear because I'm a complete newbie and I decided to get the F-5 because its one of my personal fav non-modern aircraft, and it seemed like it would be a good trainer and more fun than the SU-25
      It's definitely more fun than the 25, and I've loved learning it so far

    I used to work on this plane in Cold Lake, or at least the Canadian version. The guns were the M39A2 I believe. We actually had to physically cock the guns at the arming point before takeoff to charge them otherwise they would not be able to fire.

    On a more serious note, I absolutely love the F-5 as well. It's the first module I bought because you were talking about it in one of your older vids saying how it's a high-fidelity model but still super simple and easy to learn. And if it wasn't for me hearing you say that I probably wouldn't have gotten into DCS. So thanks, Cap!

    Supposedly the F-5E is also capable of carrying and launching AGM-65 Maverick missiles, but this is currently not implemented as the developers could not find how the AGM-65 missile feed was integrated into the radar display. • @muttleyjones2
      @muttleyjones2 2 года назад +2

      @@andrewmandrona7891 No it couldn't, you're right. The F-5E doesn't have a ground radar or a targeting pod or a laser designator so without any of these the Mavericks can't be used. It doesn't have a GPS/INS system either which is why it can't use guided bombs.

    To anyone who has this plane and has not flown it at night, I highly recommend it. Out of curiosity I took off at dusk and flew around for awhile till nightfall with a new moon. Then I couldn't see anything. Not having fancy nav instruments and having my location hidden on the map when I can't see airports or landmarks I take for granted during the day is mighty tense. Finding the runway and landing feels miraculous. The look of the cockpit at night is really cool too.

    After much research, I chose this plane as my first purchase (actually, I bought the P-51 at the same time). I absolutely love this plane. Cap is right on the money with pretty much every assessment. I'm still pretty new to DCS World, and I'm having a ball learning new things about this plane every day.
    It has exactly the right combination of "easy to fly" but "will kill you if you don't pay attention." It's a perfect balance between "high-tech" and "seat-of-the-pants." It's simple to just get in it and point it in a direction and go, but it's also got a lot of depth to it, much attributed to the lack of systems. For example, if you want to navigate you have to actually understand navigation, but at the same time you can just point at an enemy plane, flip a couple of switches, and pull the trigger.
    What a great first purchase. "It's terrible at everything but still awesome" is about the best way to sum this plane up.

    I have mixed feelings on this one. I think something is really wrong with the flight model on this one, the pitch is just a mess. A friend flew T-38s and while a different a/c than the F-5, he flew the DCS F-5 and hated it...and wanted very much to like it.

      @JD96893 4 года назад

      Didn't know the Chilean F5 was that capable, i live in Chile. Also yes!!! That would be waaaay cool! But unfortunately due to the way DCS works with many modules based on planes still in service and therefore hard on get details on, and also in part due to how many different systems would need to be implemented on different models of the same plane make it very unlikely :/. Maybe if DCS was more main stream they would make it happen, Mig21 also has some really cool upgrades, but at the end of the day these businesses are out to make money and I don't think too many people would buy these new "module upgrades" I guess you could say. Also they would be expensive to make. They would also probably have to charge a hefty amount and ofc there is the problem with getting details on said module which would be very hard. I would definitely buy it though!!! Even if it was almost the same price as the original module! Or just a completely new module.

I tried to get into DCS with the KA-50 years ago, and it threw me in the deep end without mercy. Truth be told, it was so overwhelming and discouraging in its complexity it turned me off DCS entirely. I’d like to try to get back in it and this looks like a good place to start. I only hope this isn’t as hard as the Blackshark as I do badly want to be able to play this sim and move on to all the other modules.

    Huh - that paint scheme doesn't look right. The Saints' 01 airframe has a light and dark gray tiger stripe scheme, unless that has changed recently.

    I love the look of it and what it can do but the inside view of it just feels way too wide for me so I just don't feel like flying it. Which sucks because it's been one of my favorite jets since before I started flying.
    (Same with the F-35 though that's not in game but looking at the cockpit I just can't look at the cockpit and think it looks good)

    I really love this plane but sadly there is no european cold war server that I can get a good ping on.
    Would you do a video and try to take this thing on a regular PvP server and see if you can kill anything modern? :-D
    I mean in theory you should be able to sneak in super low to bypass all that BVR stuff but you still have to engage.
    Super fun playstyle with the SU-27 but the F-5E is nowhere as capable as the Flanker so I'm wondering how that'd work and if a good pilot can actually make it happen :D

    I can't understand why you recommend this aircraft. This is the first high fidelity aircraft I bought and I'm terribly disappointed. I was trying basic flying and besides TACAN working not at all, the ADI drifts so strongly that low vis flying is a death trap. So sad, they take so much for those modules and they don't even work. I guess this was my time with DCS.

    Does this still stand today Cap?
    I am looking for a jet for the Enigma server. I want to fight for the West because they are the best, obviously! ;). I have this F-5 Tiger II or the Swedish Mirage, to choose from, that will be good for me. I think. I like air to air but I know you can't win the Enigma war in the air, technically. So I am leaning towards the Tiger as I think it may be better in air to air scenarios.

    Im poor as dirt and looking to buy my second module. Minus the 80 dollar F16,14 and 18, what is your favorite Mods?
    Ive only got the a10c.. and i love it. I love the systems, i kinda like the complicated immersion, i like the demanding cockpit. But an average 210 knots is driving me bonkers.

      Imagine flying it across the pond. I was a KC-135 boomer and we brought a flight of A-10s back to the CONUS from Djibouti. That was a couple days of loooong flights.

    If i bought this module and played through the campaign/instant action/missions etc, will i be up against AI aircraft of the same era/capability? Or am I going to have to fight su27 who can engage with BVR etc? Cheers

    i really like the tiger but compared to other aircraft around its time (at least the ones avaiable in dcs) its just not that great, it has terrible acceleration barely mach 1 capable and thats without any weapons, it doesnt have the firepower of something like a mig21, it has 2 missles which are probably best for its era but u have only 2 so it doesnt even matter, it has great situational awerness, good radar and absolutely amazing rwr but it doesnt matter if u see a target first if u have no weapons to kill him with, it would make sense if it was really fast so it would be a interceptor, then u could use its great awearness to spot targets quickly kill them with good missles and then sprint back to base, but it doesnt work when ur slower then everything youre gonna fight, it has all great shiny features but you cant even use them, i think its worth sacrificing some situational awerness of the f5 for 3 times more missles more speed more weapons of the mig21 or literally any other plane

    I started playing DCS 2-3 weeks ago, started trying out modules in the trial and instantly fell in love with that one. I have no prior flight sim experience, but maybe due to the fact that I love that jet IRL (being swiss and growing up with that plane being in the patrouille suisse) I am quite sure I am buying that module at the end of the trial period, it feels amazing.

    F5 is personal favorite as the light fighter it is. Think of a tiger with 2 Tomahawks, 8 Sparrow, 2 Rocket packs. Cheap lite multi role defender fighter.

    The f 5 in a dive struggles because of its small elevators. And also that’s the reason why the thunderbirds moved on form the f 5 after the flight lead miscalculated the loop and killed the demolition team
