Thankyou so much for making this, it was really helpful. I was just wondering if you had to fully register with the GOC before you started the degree or if that registration was completed once the course began?
I didn’t know anything about the GOC before going into first year. They will show you how to get into it and get an account. There will be yearly charges of £30! Thank you all the best ☺️
Hi , im a student who will be taking GCSEs in 2024 and i need a bit of advice for alevels . I was just wondering what Alevels you need to get in to optometry? 😊
Hiii! It’s really up to you and what the university wants. What most univeristies require: two science subjects (Biology, Maths, Physics or Chemistry) normally to be taken in one sitting. Third option is up to you :)
heyy! i just got accepted at city but for introduction to optometry. im so excited but cant seem to find much information about the foundation year. do you have any information or tips? did you maybe know someone who did a foundation year or anything? the video was very interesting tho thank you!!
Got an offer for the sake course aswell declined and decided to going ARU for a 4 year course personally I don't think the foundation year is worth it makes the whole process longer + 9k + your not guaranteed a spot for next year lime u have to meet certain requirements
your welcome! Congrats!! I know a few people that have completed foundation year and they did enjoy it, it’s similar to first year in terms of modules but it’s slightly different in terms of exams. I heard that it’s breaks down the info a lot more compared to first year but I don’t know a lot about it.
Hi! Im taking my gcses next year and was wondering what sort of grades you got at gcses and at a levels to get into optometry skl... also what made you decide on optometry? I love the idea of it but I kind of hate maths so I'm not sure if it's right for me
I have those videos on my channel! Be sure to check the university alevel and gcse requirements to get into optom esp the uni you want to go to. I love optom because even if it seems small prescribing glasses or contacts, it can have a huge impact on a persons day to day. I had to research the cons and pros and turns out it’s the best for me. The maths isn’t crazy like alevel maths, you’ve still got gcse style maths. Your lecturer will teach you, it’s not impossible to pass the maths. Plus there are many others that haven’t done maths alevel so don’t worry. I howler his helps. You have lots of time to think about it! ❤️
How much roughly can you earn in year 3 & 4 if you don’t mind me asking? Dont have to say yours… just wanted a rough idea if possible. Much appreciated
Hey, I’m taking a gap year to figure out the right career for me. What made you choose it and what wider reading and work experience did you do for your application? Funny thing is I’ve come from watching your GCSEs video all those years ago to coming back to this!
Hello! Cool, I found a career in optometry through social media actually. I watched lots of videos and did some research into and found that it’s a career that best suits me. It was covid at the time of application so I didn’t have relevant workexperience in optics so I used any work experience and volunteering I had. As long as it relates to your course in terms of skills you can bring! Hope it goes well :)
I acc decided on optometry for uni In the end. I’m still writing my personal statement… but i am also considering apprenticeships in accounting. Hbu?@@SilverbackA
there are many pros to it! I love it because it’s super lightweight and easy to use rather than having bulks of folders and papers. We do have a lot to draw in optometry. Not everyone has an iPad so don’t feel like you need one, many people just use their laptop too! I hope this helps :)
Much needed video Thank you :)
Happy to help!
Amazing video.... I'm first year student optometry in Malaysia.... Keep update the new video....Like it 😁
Awesome! Thank you

It can vary but it’s mid May to mid June
Could u do a general advice or tips for uni??
Soon!
Hey, can we put Dr in front of our name in optometer?
no not in the UK
@@khiaraisabelle ok
do you get paid during the extended placement within year 3 & 4?
yes because you start working in an optician with the help of supervisors doing some clinical work and optical assistant work.
