Richard Pryor - Vulnerable | Rare 1983 Interview

- This is one of my favorite Richard Pryor interviews. It originally appeared on the Grammy winning box set, AND ITS DEEP, TOO (2000) that is now out of print. Recorded during the filming of the 1983 concert film HERE AND NOW (audio was recorded but film was either not shot or hidden in Columbia Pictures vault), Recorded June 5, 1983 (4 days before the third anniversary of his attempted suicide by self immolation) It captures Mr. Pryor at one of his most thoughtful, vulnerable moments. Each time I listen to it, I discover new jewels. Presented for historical purposes, feel free to share your thoughts upon listening. © Warner Brothers Records/Richard Pryor

Never realized until today how much I can relate to Richard Pryor and his thought process and emotional intelligence
You haven’t heard enough of his stand up
Richard Pryor gave us his gifts of truth with humor over and over. He was a genius with heart.
They say the funniest people are the saddest on the inside, Richard pryor was the funniest guy ever , only comedian that I've seen that put tears in my eyes from laughing so much .
was
Rich was really a good dude. The transparency and honesty he displayed in this interview is deep.
Excellent interview. R.I.P. Richard Pryor - But Never Ever Forgotten.
He truly paved the way for a lot of people and is just shows that he is witness to everything is possible in life.
Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling. Still a classic. Brilliant interview.
Looking for it on RUclips
Absolutely Brilliant
America loves Richard and he feels like kin to many folks.
He sounds so sincere that I wish I could see him personally to hear his story.
This is my favorite interview of all time. Please never take it down.
This is a real gem of an interview. Thank you for this. As great as it was hearing Richard Pryor telling jokes, it's also great to hear him unguarded and vulnerable.

Awesome! Thanks MR PRYOR for bringing laughter and honesty!
THIS BROTHER WAS VERY SMART. Richard tried to tell us something before he died, Richard saw something that would change his life forever. Richard saw in the Pyramids of EGYPT, that the people on the walls were BLACK PEOPLE. he said one of them looked just like his Uncle.
i know it is quite off topic but does anyone know a good website to watch new series online?
@Enrique Charles Ehh I'd suggest flixportal. just google after it:D -xavier
@Xavier Amari thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :) I appreciate it!
@Enrique Charles no problem =)
Thanks for this. Richard Pryor the best to ever do it.
Jae Enceeti U AIN'T LYIN M.F.!
Thank you. This was a great interview.
You can almost see his mind working around the *phrasing* when he says back to the interviewer: "Renewed old relationships?"
Thank you for all you do.. this is a treasure .. bless him .. he still teaching us❤️
"It's very hard if you spend the lifetime covering up feelings, to suddenly have them come at you."
2 Richard Pryors...he was a GEMINI. great story teller. funny as hell..... the best to ever do it!! but Comedians are people too. great interview .
December 1 1940 Sagittarius.
Wish we had more from him...at least on this level. #legend
Check him on Donahue 📺. A "This Is Your Life" episode. Everybody is there. Even "Ali"🥊
For decades this comedic genius made us laugh 😂at the expense of his pain 😵...I forever love and respect this man.. Rest in paradise ..Mr Richard Thomas Aaron Lennox Pryor.. ✌💗
I MISS THIS GUY, IT SUCKS HE’S GONE 😢 R.I.P. RICHARD PRYOR 😢😭
Godfather of Comedy. The Gold Standard.
What a brilliant man...truly a phIlosopher
Kudos to the interviewer. She asked great questions.
Excellent interview with love
This shit is intense, thank you!
It's amazing to me how much Richard loved humanity deep down in his heart and soul after all the terrible things he endured as a young boy. He was a real people person.
I KNEW some of this dialogue sounded familiar! Here & Now is one of the best standup films ever! And yes, there's a video to this audio but I don't know if we'll ever see the entire thing. Only the bits from the beginning of Here & Now. His last one, too. Love him so much.
Good interview
More please?.. I felt like I was right there with him.
Uncle Richard, you speak of Spirit. And You Plus YOUR SPIRIT.. YOUR SPIRIT I WANT TO SHARE WITH I FINALLY GET HOME UNCLE 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💘💘😎✊🏾💘🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💯💯💯💯

Reelback we really have alot to be thankful for durning these Critical days were living in to really view people as they really were and the messages they leave us. Janice Harley
God given Genius
I wish it didn't take so long for Richard to love himself. For so long he felt unworthy. Fact is, he was brilliant. Not just as a comedian, but he was very intelligent.
😂😂😂 rich is a historic figure in comedy worth the listen
So talented but so tragic
Comedy doesn't come from a funny, lighthearted life in most cases. Not the good comedy anyway. R.I.P. Richard.
Long Live The King!
15:00 that's deep
Heavy.
will love to see something new from Paul mooney
Hes not doing new interviews, but he still performs. If I find anything older under Fair Use, I will post.
Domo Jones I feel the same way. Although, I do admit prior to Richard Pryor, there weren't any brash and outspoken Black comics who became Hollywood box office megastars. Yes, I respect Redd Foxx as well. However, it was Pryor who broke the mold for Eddie, Martin and Dave among many others.
Dana Vixen Paul Mooney C wrote it
He Has a few Good Books
Wow
Who's interviewing rich?
Redd Foxx Richard Pryor
we miss Pryor..😜
On D Cross, held hostage, real measure!!!
Comedy 👑
Pain turned inside out is???? Come on somebody.
Comedy.
Changes
Pryor was a tortured soul. Comedy definitely comes from deep dark pain.
Did he say his birthday is June 9th?
Yes. He was suggesting that the night of the fire was the day of his rebirth.
His date of birth was December 1st, but reelblack is correct about the rebirth from his suicide attempt.
Prior real talent.
Good interview from Richard but Who is the interviewer talking this low and unclear.
What's the best way I can donate while making sure the least amount of fees are charged to you? I just want you to get all the money and not get taxed!

Peyton Bell YES, YES YOU ARE! Now I can't shake the idea that it isn't?!?!
Bonnie an clyde
Buba Jenkins is Rich's hero yaw
1
He was the best. And Peyton Bell: He sounds like RICHARD PRYOR.
14:33 Jim Carrey
Rich is def a younger sibling. Howcome we never hear about his brothers or sisters
pretty sure he’s an only child
This man was a tormented human being. He was not a king he was a slave to himself, it’s a sad story, instead of admiring this man people should see him as what happens to a person who seeks purpose without acknowledging and obeying his creator.
Peace
“My contribution? I know that I must be doing the job right if God's letting me live and provided for me so well because it's only through God's way (@16:31) that I'm here alive able to be doing anything so I must be doing what is wanted and if I don't try to force something I'll be alright. That's all I can do.” -Richard Pryor
@@heateroakley6310 Just cause ur living don't mean ur doing something right. You can always be living for yourself...and self worship is an ancient tale.
@@rece533 in his case that's neither here nor there; everyone's interpretation of the creator is different for a reason. His pain his story; hey it helped others as well as his self through their journeys after the fact, right.
