Catching Trespassers - Reolink Homestead 4K Security Cameras

- We've been testing this new 4k Ultra-HD security camera system from Reolink for about a month. It has been working great. The picture quality is the best I've seen on a security camera. The night vision has more than enough range for the coverage areas. The best feature is the smart detection that distinguishes vehicles from people and the system can send alerts to your smart phone when detection occurs. The network video recorder comes with a 2TB drive which is plenty of space, and the Power Over Ethernet (POE) makes installation super easy with only one cable per camera.

I'm always fascinated by the advancements in modern technology !!! Just got a new 2022 laptop and it blew me away. You need to remember I started my journey in 1946 and I've seen unbelievable changes since then. Guess I'll warm up the radio so I can listen to rhe Lone Ranger ( that was once reality) LOL
I remember rushing home from school in second grade to listen to the Lone Ranger every day.
@@ShadowMoonFarms Don't forget "The Shadow" haha
@@stan3198 "The Shadow Knows"
here's hoping the only trespassers you encounter are the four-legged variety
This system is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for showing it to us.
Beautiful home, well done!
Just a heads up about cable management. The cables on most of these are designed to route up through the metal mounting plate into a hole in the mounting surface (such as the eaves or facia). This way the cables are never exposed and completely hidden. The camera body/base covers the hole.
THANK YOU for all of the hard work you do in this channel. I am a new you tuber and we really respect and appreciate your example. You lead with your heart, put your family first, share your experience and keep a level head. I have always been a prepper (cook) and thank god today I have good preps. I just experienced job loss after 14 years in public safety which started after a 25 year in culinary arts where I started as a pastry chef at the Ritz Carlton and which ended in 2008 as an Exc. Chef.
Thank you soo much for all your hard work on this camera system. Man do I need this!!!
Definitely want one of this type of security system soon. Have been trying to figure out which one and was considering this Reolink one. Good timing, Jeremy!
So far it does everything I wanted a system to do. 👍🏻
@@Guildbrookfarm Sounds great. I have an analog Defender system with two cameras, but it has severe limitations on this property. This one sounds exactly like what we need here.
I have Reolink cameras. They're amazing.
Viewing from the top down, you only get to really see the tops of people's heads. Hopefully, the special place you're going to put it captures the faces.
These were recommended to me by a friend. Thanks for the reminder
House is looking fantastic!
Glad the intruders were only Dee or other animals. like the set up. tell Jamie and the Girls we said Hi. stay safe.
I like the idea of a dual camera giving a wider field of view it seems pretty slick. We have a 4k set up with 8 cameras, with lights you can turn on, siren, 2-way audio and notifications to our phones. This would make our 2nd camera setup and if we or when we do get a new setup, I want ethernet connections directly to the cameras.
As always, very interesting to see stuff from the other side of the world. 🇦🇺
Thank you! Excellent info we found very helpful!! God Bless you and your family!
Wow, your beautiful house is built! I subscribed years ago when you just started out and somehow lost the link. Now that I’ve found you again, I’m going to watch the house get built! Thank you for this security camera review as it’s what I’ve been researching. You are an amazing couple! God bless! 🙏🏻👍
Welcome back!
i love my camera system.. been watching a family of racoons wandering thru the neighborhood, raising their Kits/cubs every summer...
No web needed. Excellent!!
This video showed up right on time! I had literally just been looking at a Ring doorbell and also for 1 or 2 cameras, when I received a notification for this video! 😊
But I need wireless, preferably with solar panels. If I was prewired, I’d definitely look into your setup.
They also have wifi cams with solar that we’ve been using for about 4 years around the property.
@@Guildbrookfarm - Thank you, I’m looking at them right now - I’m also wondering if it might be worth it have an electrician come & run wires to set up as you did with the recorder, bypassing WI-FI?
Direct wire is always more reliable
That view at the end is heaven.....🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲
Aloha 🌺 Thank you for all the info on security camera! 🥰
Cutest trespassers evah! 💕
Thanks for this vidya Jeremy! I've been actively looking for an upgrade and this really looks like a great package deal.
So far I like it a lot. 🤘🏻
@@Guildbrookfarm 👊🏼Respect for the 5FDP shirt as well!
That looks very nice
Like the cameras
I have the duo 2 4g version, its a really nice camera. I didnt know reolink had a poe version I may have to look into that. Thank you and good setup, I would recommend you put all the cables in the ceiling so its out of the weather. I did that to all of mine so its very clean and my soffets are white so it blends right in.
I would press charges... the first day of bow season...
Love all your 'intruders'. 🙂
Cool! Yeah......one does NOT want their camera's hooked up to the internet/able to be hacked!
I stuffed my cables up into the hole and mounted the camera over the hole. I use a different manufacturer, but I'm pretty sure they all can be mounted that way.
Same cameras I have but I also got the solar panels for total offgrid.
I have had nothing but good luck with Reolink. I have both Solar wireless and Network connected cameras. Then there is a third party app that I have on my firestick that lets me see everything. They just came out also with their doorbell camera. Download the app on your phone so it is easier to adjust your cameras from your phone.
WOW! Good choice these days,!
I expected 2-3x the price, for such video quality & self contained system - great deal.
We use swann camera system also very nice quality easy install
hiding (camoing them to the color of the house) is fine ...but I'd also have some highly visible ones. send the message "easier to rob someone else than me" is how I think about cams
Exactly. Even having dummy camera housings placed would say "Go pick on someone else!"
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Looking at your intro, I visualised the underside beam of the verandah painted dark to match the house trim and roof finish. A little bolder look and more stronger horizontal lines. What do ya think?
As an installer what I would do is if the wire moves freely inside the soffit push it up inside, even cutting the RJ-45 off if necessary. Then use a step bit or 1/2”or 3/4” shank bit, tops, to make the hole big enough to fit the connections inside the soffit. I will fill the hole with a colored silicone that comes in a tube.
If the wire is too short or does not move freely inside the soffit use a 3/4” paddle bit and drill a hole right next to the wire being very careful and you should be able to accomplish the same thing.
If the soffit is hardy plank type material be prepared to ruin a drillbit on each hole.
Hiya Jeremy and Jaime
Really interesting. I am just so impressed with what you have built (as a non- technical woman) and have enjoyed every single vlog. How are you situated re fire and drought in your area and protection from there of?
It's been a really rainy summer here the last few years so no risk of fire or drought.
I have 8 camera with POE NVR by reolink and love them. So does my nosy wife. 😆
Would be interested to see what you're using for internet out there and how its working. Also if you have considered StarLink (if you don't already have it)
WOW, I haven't watched you guys for quite a while. Your house looks beautiful! Congratulations! I have a question, what type of siding is on your house? Thanks
Stucco and stone
@@Guildbrookfarm thanks. It looks really nice!
i am interested in seing how they work a year or so from install & if they cut off/out once in a while ext ..in my experience most do & especially after they ben up a while ! i got tired of buying a new system every year & i finally went to a POE Cameras & Built my own NVR & Custom software & i have had the same ones for 3-4 years now !
Can you tell me if your duo cam will show on preview and if it does what your monitor rez is. I'm not able to see it on my 36 channel unless I bring it to screen by itself. Since I guess it's working for you I must have the wrong resolution on my TV monitor.
QUESTION ….. Could you please show these cameras at night, how clear they are? Are they motion activated or stay on continuously? The day time is super clear! Love how you can zoom in. Is the footage saved somewhere for short or long periods of time? Example if you were gone for a month and had to go back to review footage can you? Thanks for sharing and sorry for all the questions. 😁
They are clear at night and use IR lights for night vision like most cameras so night video is black and white. The NVR that comes with the system has a 2TB hard drive that holds about 6 weeks worth of footage from 4 cameras that is recording constantly. Motion creates an event marker on the footage so you can jump right to that part when reviewing video.
@@Guildbrookfarm Thank you so very much for responding to my questions! That helps a lot. I truly appreciate you taking the time. Have a very blessed day!!
👍👍👍👍👍
what is going on with the lack of videos the past month or so, hope all is well with the family
That's pretty cool! How to compare to Ring cameras in cost? I have two cameras to monitor my garden, but I want one for my front porch, but the Ring doorbell is expensive and it doesn't cover much area. You did a great review as well. Informative and concise. My favorite kind.
Ring cameras are part of the Amazon spy network and they provide law enforcement agencies access to the footage.
@@Guildbrookfarm - 😮 I had no idea! I don’t mind sharing footage with law enforcement should they need it but I wanna be asked first. I think I’ll be moving to these cameras you just reviewed for sure. Thank you!

@@Guildbrookfarm I feel the same way about Alexa. I'm kinda used to my computer giving me ads based on what I look up on Google. Don't really like it but understand why it's happening. My grandkids gave me an Alexa a couple of years ago. Friends were over and we were just talking about a singer from the 90's. The next day the singer popped up in my You Tube feed. Damn Alexa was reporting my conversations in my own home. Disconnected and gone immediately. Big Brother is watching and listening.
Correct, and now Amazon is buying iRobot that makes the Rumba robotic vacuum cleaners so they will have a map of the inside of your entire house. These things have cameras and microphones on them also.
have a look at "frigate nvr" for AI powered detection that you can host yourself
Nothing better then a hardwired system. Wireless has to much maintenance.
And it can be scrambled relatively easily if you know the frequency bands it is likely to use.
are you on the grid ?
A Like & A Comment For The Algorithm.
I wish I had a better Wi-Fi connection here. I need a security camera that will record 24/7.
My ring camera only records for like 60 seconds and only if it detects something- which it doesn’t always detect movement!!!! It won’t detect a vehicle pulling up in the driveway
I would Just go with wired cameras.
The systems are fairly cheap and you can find cameras that are only like 12 bucks even with "night vision"
Most wired cctv systems have motion detection settings, and internet capabilities. So it's not like you would loose any capabilities going with a wired system
Read Jeremy’s answer to someone else about ring cameras.

Oh goodness stop forcing the camera servos to move lol
There are no servos. These aren’t PTZ.
@@Guildbrookfarm oh weird. They look like it. That dual camera reminds me of Johnny 5 from short circuit.

Most people hide all their extra wires and outdoor rated electrical boxes. You can either mount it underneath the camera give it a little boost or Mountain next to the camera
