- Authorities in Maryland have transitioned to recovery operations at the site of the catastrophic collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge. Six construction workers are presumed dead after a ship hit the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday morning.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore says this cargo ship lost power and sent out an emergency mayday call. "Our state is in shock,” said Moore.
KTLA's Omar Lewis reports on March 27, 2024.

Hearts and prayers go above and beyond from Maywood, IL.
Very tragedy incident. Since the likelihood of rescuing the missing construction men alive is slim at this point, the search and rescue team diving in the very cold water to recover two of the missing men have done a highly commendable job. This development will give more motivation to continue until the other four are recovered for proper burial to take place. This goes a long way in helping maintain a good grieving process and mental stability for the family and dependents of the dead men.
The guy reporting the story definitely chose the upbeat tone of voice instead of the somber one LOL
This is so sad 😞 🙏🏾💞
Sad.😢
So if there was a closure that the ship was inbound they didn’t think to stop the workers also?
2 minutes. 2 minutes warning to stop the light 1am traffic from entering the bridge which takes a single police car to do. 2 minutes does not leave a lot of time to warn and remove a stationary construction crew from the center of the bridge.
@tonygantt5792
Yes, they did think to do that. There were recorded police radio comms, during which one police officer was reporting on the process of halting incoming traffic at one end of the bridge. He said that as soon as he got it stopped, he would drive onto the bridge and alert the workers. Within just a few seconds after that transmission, he came back to announce that the bridge had been hit and had collapsed. He sounded very upset.
Too massive of a feat in that short of time
@@debzfiedler6100 ah thank you for the insight I wasn’t sure of the whole story!
@@MrSuperpiff4 understood I didn’t know they had that little bit of time thanks for explaining!
I ride tht bridge on the regular! There are no pot holes!
Sending love and healing prayers 🙏🏻 for fast recovery for the 2 people rescue and Sending love & healing prayers🙏to all the family's. Who lost their loved ones on the Baltimore key Bridge.

The ship goes out of power right before it hits the bridge coincidence. I think not. Maybe these people rest in peace.
The boat had previous issues.
Something about this seems very intentional
So expect shortages and consumers to panic
The news would’ve showed them bodies in sheets being taken away
BARELY TWO
The ship is Biden, and the bridge is America!
Facts
The sky is falling!! The sky is falling!!! Ace!
Passenger was found still clutching the inside door handle. Looks like he pulled on that handle til he drowned. Imagine the fear and panic of not being to get out, and the cab filling with water, and trying to hold his breath until he couldn't find the urge anymore and he inhaled nothing but water. Friend who is a cop there told me this.
Can you imagine the horror all those poor souls went through? ....immigrants
Immigrants doing the grunt work for our country; who talks so badly about them
Horrendous
Thought they were regular citizens, like me, that changes everything.
Listen to this floozy
😢
I’m not trying to sound ignorant but was the construction workers not able to see the ship or just didn’t have enough time to get off the bridge?
They probably thought the ship would turn or stop or something or maybe they weren’t paying attention as ships come and go all the time. Who would have thunk. 🥺
They are doing their jobs. They aren't looking out to the water
Great question, but r u reading these DA answers smh
Can you run a half mile in two minutes?
🙄
@@Sheskis I thought maybe if there were trucks they could have tried to drive..but like the person said above they were working and prob not paying attention. I don’t know if I seen blue lights on each end I would be wondering what the hell and start looking around but I know everything prob happened soo fast is why I said I wasn’t trying to sound ignorant. Just sad and heartbreaking 💔
Since Baltimore is primarily a black City I wonder if this was done intentionally
keep looking....you'll find more
How many cars were on the bridge when it collapsed?
A few construction vehicles
There's a close up video on RUclips from yesterday. Last 2 cars were driving fast a minute before impact. Looks like they made it. You can search for "closeup keybridge video".
Why only workers? Was the bridge closed for normal traffic.
Sounds 911ish bldg 7 would be the other side of the bridge tht collapsed out the blue
@@albee8008 The had changed the lights to red just before the bridge to avoid anyone from going across. Didn’t have time to warn the workers.
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
This was on purpose....shades of Obama
🤡
Well said Comrade
the pilots of that ship were indians so no surprise
They say ignorance is bliss. You seem like a very happy fellow.
😂
What would the race or ethnicity of the pilots have to do with a power outage? If anything they saved lives by immediately calling in a mayday.
A completely irrelevant detail. Have some respect and empathy for your fellow human beings.
@yoiashi
Actually, the ones piloting the ship at that point were not the ship's regular crew members. The policy in Baltimore Harbor is that they must use local pilots who are very familiar with the specifics of the area while exiting.
"Each ship engaged in foreign trade coming to Maryland ports is required to take on a local ship handling specialist, known as the Pilot, to navigate the vessel safely into port," says the website of the Association of Maryland Pilots.
So they had local pilots on board handling this process, which is probably part of the reason they immediately issued a "Mayday" when the ship's power failed. That saved lives; no doubt about it.
thats strange out of any day but the ship decides to go and crash when workers are fixing pot holes croked so somebbody shut down the powet toil the boat but not other buildings near by?? emp war its on
