      @JariJuslin 15 дней назад

      I've seen numbers from 3000-4000 thousand tonnes to 30000 thousands tonnes. Most likely the first one is ballpark for the parts that rest on the ship's bow and the latter for all the collapsed material. Much of the mass is from the crumbled concrete and asphalt from the deck and the shattered pillars.

    Of course, I am not in a position to know all the facts, but from what I have seen so far, I think it is the joint fault of both the bridge designers and the ship's owner. A bridge should be able take some pretty hefty impacts from a ship. The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco has some massive concrete pillars at the base protecting the steel work.

    Liability should in fact apply to the state for their failure to include collision protection in the original design. Just look at the barriers surrounding the hydro towers in the river. The bridge would still be standing if it had similar protection. The workers would still be alive and life and shipping in Baltimore would still be going on as normal. The engineers who designed and the state officials who signed off on the bridge all have blood on their hands.
