    I have used this camera for the past year and it has been my favorite. I've basically abandoned my DSLR and my film cameras for it. This camera can make good landscape photos as well as good night photos with a long exposure if you know what you're doing. Unfortunately for me, the aperture dial has started getting really touchy. Worst part about that is that the aperture dial is the shutter release button so it changes my settings sometimes with a slight touch. I would buy this camera again and certainly do recommend it to anyone that doesn't want to spend the money on a GRIII. It is most definitely a strong contender. If you can find one in great condition it is well worth the money. Do not hesitate. With all that said, I did end up purchasing a GRIII as a back up when my XF10 finally gives out simply because I want to have a new camera when my precious goes. If Fujifilm makes a new version of the XF10 I would buy it over Ricoh in a heartbeat. If you find a good XF10, buy it. Once you learn it, you won't want to give it up.

    It is always with me in my pant pocket with no cap on. For those who frastrated with lens cap I recommend a JJC uv lens protector the same size made for Ricoh GR3, it is perfect size to XF10 as well.

    I shoot the X70 everyday. The flip screen makes so much value for me usability-wise, because I shoot a lot from the hip and low angle. I shoot Provia mainly with Pro Neg Hi as a back up, because I like that Provia boosts the mid tones more. I mostly shoot it at f6.3 for 3-5m to be in focus, so it has forced me to get better at seeing layers and letting more context in the frame. I recommend giving it a try too, since it's the older X-T1 generation of Fujifilm colours and tonality.

    I bought an XF10 about a year ago when it was on offer (£250 in John Lewis), due to the pandemic I've barely used it (I'm a street photographer, or at least used to be, normally use an X100F, live rurally and barely been out lately so lost my photography mojo). Anyway am in Edinburgh today having the first photography day in a very long time, just using the XF10 which I'm still getting to grips with, having a wee cider break at the mo and came across your channel so have subbed. Look forward to finally getting to know this camera.

    Loved your review! I was really hoping to get a compact camera this year and Xf10 is one of my options. Your review makes me gear towards xf10 among others. Your photos are amazing especially the portrait ones!

    picked one up second hand for the same reason as you, small kids and wanted a camera that would take good pics. it's great. film simulation is excellent and WiFi the jpg straight to your phone then share with daily. simple. none of this "I'll send you the pic once I've edited it when I get time" nonsense.

    Cracking little cameras. I fitted a filter adapter to mine and use polariser and ND filter for landscapes. Very capable for what it is.

    • @richardhale9664
      @richardhale9664 3 года назад +1

      Where did you get the adapter from? Last time I looked they did not seem to be available. For me the biggest flaw of the XF10 is the silly filter thread. Still love my XF10 though.

      @@richardhale9664 I’ve had mine ages now but it was from Ali Express. It sticks on and gives you a 46mm filter thread. Cost about 12 quid, had to wait a couple of months but worth it.

      @@andrewbaxter9395 Thanks. I will have another look on t'internet to see what I can find.
      Its important to me because I use my XF10 as my wide angle lens whenever I take an interchangeable camera out. So much more convenient to whip the little thing out of a pocket or bag than swapping and changing lenses.

      @@richardhale9664 No problem, similar story here, the XF10 is my second camera for daily carry, perfect for landscapes on wildcamps where I’ve got enough to carry let alone heavy bodies and lenses 😉

    Great video mate. Yep I have this beautiful little beast and it's in my pocket now as I type this walking my dog. To anyone out there struggling with that daft lens cap just get hold of an X100 metal one they slide onto it! Some beautiful photos from it

  • @vikdaddy

    Fantastic camera. The ergonomics aren't great though (I wish it was more like the X70), and that fiddly lens cap is a nightmare. But the image quality is great and, for its price, it's an absolute steal. John Lewis were selling these for £249 a few months back and I haven't regretted it.

    • @JohnJBloomfield
      @JohnJBloomfield  3 года назад

      You can get a push on lens cap but a built in one like GR would be better I agree.
      I'm happy enough with the ergonomic compromise because it fits in my jeans pocket basically.

    Great photos! I am with you on the constant ‘should i keep it or not’ or experiencing the Ricoh fomo, but essentially (a few features aside like IBIS) these are the same tools and should be able to serve the same purpose and do the same job. I think we’re literally spoilt with choice these days. For now my budget says the Fuji has to stay I just need the gear possessed side of me to me at peace with that.

    Awesome photos. I don't own this camera but I do own a X-Pro2 and GFX-50S II for work. I might pull the trigger on the X-F10 for street photography, the lens seems plenty sharp and high ISO images are great according to DPReview

    Nice review John and I think I pretty much echo a lot of your sentiments with my XT-4. When I leave the house I always have to carry a manbag (lol) because I just have too many unpocketable things (and Australian climate doesn't really lend itself to multiple 'pocket clothing' layers like the UK does). I have my keys, wallet, phone and business backups (2x Extreme Sandisk SSD's), so really I'm beyond pockets at this time so its a camera bag and so I tend to also toss a small camera in that bag as well.
    I have enjoyed downsizing from a KP to a XT-4 because of the compactness and weight difference and indeed the built in FFS (FujiFilmSims lol) are enough to keep me content for 'out and about grabs' whilst leaving the real PP stuff for the real jobs.
    I also knew about the bracketing film sim thing, but unfortunately it doesn't work for Custom Modes (at least that I can tell) whereby I have set up a few more indepth FFS recipes, a real shame because like you I would like to shoot a single subject and get 3x different rendering options and pic the one I like the most.
    If you do ever upgrade from this XF10, have a look at the X100V and X-E4, some pancake lenses for the X-E4 might be a goer for the front pocket... maybe not. The more iterations of Fuji gear the better the AF and FFS get, and I think it has merit.

    • @JohnJBloomfield
      @JohnJBloomfield  3 года назад

      I won't replace the XF-10 with anything that doesn't fit in the front pocket of a pair of Levi 501s so those suggestions aren't for me.
      One neat feature I forgot to mention is that although it doesn't have a hot shoe it has a 'flash commander' mode where it fires a flash soft enough not to affect the exposure strong enough to trigger an optical flash. And because it's a leaf shutter there is no sync speed limit... playing around I've managed to sync it in studio at 1/2000 and I think it could go higher.
