CHOP CHOP HANG ON HAULOVER INLET!

- A couple hours spent filming at Haulover Inlet on a late December Sunday afternoon. The inlet was choppy and the weather was great, a perfect combination for a novice captain to be lured into the inlet and over their skill set and boat’s capability. But alas, the small boat captains were cautious and the adventurous captains knew how to handle a boat in the chop of the inlet.

5:05 u already know what these guys are up to ;)
what is that
fishing?
I don't know yet what they are up to.
Wdym they aren’t doing anything
Then a blimp watches from above
Good lesson on the difference of "speed over ground" and "speed through water"
How could anybody not like these videos?
I love how he takes a break from the boats to look at the blimp and the last plane!
thanks for noticing! you've got to mix it up to give you a sense of what else is going on at the inlet..
That jet ski lmao right in front of the coast guard too hahahah
ahhahahh he is the stupiest in Miami
That girl had to have gotten hurt
that under-powered little pond hopper @ 6:25 was funny..dude had no clue what he was doing
Love the Coast Guard at 7:30, they all looked like bobbleheads.. In all seriousness, we don't criticize when they save lives !!!! They make very little money a year for their service unfortunately.. Thanks ZipZap love your work..
I like to tilt the motors up to raise the bow (so it won’t dip under) and stay on the back of the wave and slowly follow it in.
Just be careful not to be caught off guard by a following wave, a fast following wave can sometimes sneak in under your transom and lift it. Then your bow will typically cut either way going down the wave and you'll end up swamped from behind or capsized to the side. Raised motors and bow up is good but it's safer for most people to travel with good power a bit faster than the waves, and to stay on the power to keep the bow up.
The dude bro in the 15ft tri-hull at 6:20 is looking for trouble.
bro he knew what he was doin!
Was out there today, had some fun with GP1800, just got it, awesome ski. Inlet is always fun, keep an eye out for a white and black 40FT contender, named Reel Fortunate😉
will do..... get that ski in the air!
damn homies motor died with the tri hull at 6:30 at theeee worst spot possible hahah
4:27 she submarined that jet ski hard and got the handle bars to the chest
Matt Tirpak2012 ass over tea kettle
The worst part about it was she wasn’t even driving. The guy behind her was driving and they head butted too
Those Intrepid's sure look like they ride well, for a vee hull.
what's the correct way to pilot your boat through waves like this? Should you try to match the speed of the swells or something?
If your going with the current, matching speed isn't enough. You must overpower the current to maintain control of the boat. The current / waves coming at you should be taken head on and as slow as you can being carefull not to poke the nose of the boat into the next wave or belly flopping your hull. Stopping is usually not an option. It could be the camera lens / angle, but it seemed some of these boaters were way to close to each other... Includeing the CG.
thanks
I have a smaller boat of the one at like 8:40ish, it’s insanely light for its size therefore sucks at handling waves, but going against the waves I put the bow up and plow through it, coming in however I usually surf the wave until it dies down a little then get over it, but I can if it’s not cranking waves too hard put my bow all the way down with the throttle wide open plow thru everything pretty well
Thats largely because of the Captain of the boat he could have trimmed and adjusted his speed way better
Many of these boaters prove neither brains nor ability required to operate a boat.
More videos of this inlet!!! Or others. I know right where that is but I can’t see it every day from west Texas. I have to watch the local lake boat ramp. People may not know how to operate a boat but at lest have your kids wear a life jacket. That pisses me off. I was raised on the water and my parents always had me in a life vest that fit me.
What is the name of the boat at 8:16 ?
Well worth the wait for the JetSki trying to turn into a Submarine.
Some of these folks going thru the channel look like they should have a CG boat behind them while they're throwing contraband overboard.
What are those guys at 6:03 doing ? Did the motor stall ? A good way to get killed.
4:27 LOLL
what was the unidentified, rather strange looking flying object: 9:48>>>?
I want to know why Thurston Howell 111 and Lovey were on the ‘Minnow’ on that fateful day. Howell was a millionaire many times over and could of bought a boat many many times bigger. Why did he feel the need to charter a small boat with people he didn’t know and that only had only a Tiny crew? Jus Sayin
The guy at 2:00.....nope nope nope
It's incredible how close the bow came to getting swamped, even before he got to the rough part.
Why was his bow riding so low and what were his options once he started in?
MrGovtCheese he just needed more speed. he was trying to go slower than the current was moving. once the current starts pushing on the transom it's going to try to shove you around like that.
He also could have just trimmed the motor up a little or had some of the people go to the back of the boat. He was just going to slow.
Did anyone notice the guy running over to capture him going down?
I don’t know how half these people are allowed to have a boaters license
this might come as a surprise to you... no license is required
ZipZapPower oh well now the video makes sense at least
ive never been there before but how isnt there a no wake for that part of the inlet
i suspect because it is safer to get in and get out of it.
If I'm in something less than 22'. I have no business Oceanside.
thomas hathaway a 21ft boat will handle the ocean just fine in the right conditions
@@scz718645 Holy shit! This is cool. Was just clicking threw boating vids and watched this video. After your reply and some quick Google mapping, I realized the very first time I was on the ocean in a boat was at this place. I rented a boat in Boca Raton, not knowing the waters I asked the guy running the kiosk if he knew a someone I could hire to skipper the boat. He shows up and was not a day older than 20. After an hour on the river I says " how's about the Ocean" he nods and we make way via south point. We were on a 20 foot open bow with a wakeboard rack. Halfway between the inlets we hit these 12 foot plus swells and rough water with high winds. Middle of February. By this time I'm tanked standing there holding onto the wake tower screaming like Lieutenant Dan as I take a look down at this kid he's ready to shit himself. It was a blast. Haven't thought of that time in years. Cheers!
That Jetty is very shallow, probably 4-8 ft deep. Lots of water moving there. If it was deep, you wouldn't have waves like that, a strong current would still exist because of the tides, but the waves would be minimal. The channel needs dredging.
Deeper. Some of the bigger boats entering draw 6-8 feet of water. Rule of thumb is navigation draft is 4 feet more minimum than your actual draft. Don't see alot of big boats in this video, but have in others he has posted.
Biscayne Bay vs. Atlantic Ocean. Who loses? Two knuckleheads on a jet ski! 😁
Where is this at
Baker's Haulover Inlet, Miami Beach, FL, USA goo.gl/maps/F1k3CZVPpGwf635s7
At 06:04 that poor guys motor can't bring him in. Must be a 9.9 or 25ish hp?
Louis Castillo looks like a 30 Horse Evinrude. Cute little motor
what are the people in thoes tiny boats thinking
good times.
anyone know what the boat is at 5:47? looks so cool!
xo-boats, probably a 240 open
nobody is watching for the kid ,I can't believe it
4:30 you can hear the chic's teeth hit the jet ski handle bars.
9:42 "there's a guy videoing, I'm gonna show my bright orange boobs"
Question of the day, why did the Coasties stop that boat IN the inlet!!!!????
Boat full of people probably exceeding max capacity, but it also sounds like they're asking if they have lifevests.
What happened to that little blue dingy that stalled
t the boat at 6:59.. They just kept going slow and timing the rollers like that until they got out of the inlet and past the strong tide.
getting sideways in the inlet is how u get killed
no screwing around you give her shit the tides cause a wild ride, freshwater guys like me get educated fast
No idea why that little boat with two guys turned around, they were pretty much through the worst of it. Like you said, that was a terrible decision.
Jared Grass I don’t think killed is the right word
Wife beaters were tell tale sign
One thing I've learned over my Nautical experience. There are boat captains and the rest are people who own a boat lol
These extended versions with multiple boats are my favorite.
I think this is the way I'm gonna go from now on, at least for the smaller boats.
John Doe Now for some real inlet wawes, go watch this ruclips.net/video/3la_Dl30HkU/видео.html
Jetski guy wont be getting a second date
I thought she was operating it
There is a funny jet ski moment.
I did indeed laugh.
Yes. funny jet ski moment at 4:27
ZipZapPower the guy at 6:23 is just dumb, wasnt a smart idea to go out in speeding rip currents on a small boat with weaker motor
Ted Judah no shortage of idiots in Miami huh?
He looked for a while there like he was going out fishing whether he wanted to or not..lol
2:05 I give him credit for not letting his pride get in the way of making the right call to change plans. All of these captains should require lifejackets of all passengers crossings bars.
BandB1111111 he was going to slow, don’t let Mother Nature beat you
I understand this is about boats going & coming through the inlet, but does anybody catch any fish from rocks, jetty w/all this boat traffic, I also understand fish are probably used to it, but would like to see a catch once to see what's in there !
The boat at 9:50 handled the waves the best.
16’ open bow 60 hp outboard no life vest on : the Darwin award goes too .....
...and 16' is being extremely generous. That looks to be 12' to 14' with a Johnson 9.9hp -15 hp - w/a pretty sweet Bimini top that will detach and trap them underwater when she rolls.
Can't say Darwin if they are still alive. They will pass on their DNA... SMH...
For those who don’t know what they are looking at:
This is an inlet, where boats come in an out from the bay to the ocean or from the ocean to the bay. This narrow spot squeezes the water into a tighter area pushing the water in faster. As high and low tide begin to come in, the water is squeezed even tighter, causing these big rough waves you see which can destroy your boat if you’re not careful. It may not look that bad, but if you lose control of your boat, the water will push you directly into the rocks or capsize your boat.
No shit
@@nate199813 ikr
It is a river. So you have current flowing out and waves pushing in. That is what makes it dangerous.
Good old Venturi effect, it can be more dangerous than bar crossings with bigger swell.
Thanks for the clear explanation. 👍
Thumbs down for cutting the most interesting moments short. e.g. jetski crash and the small inflatable boat leaving the channel
I have no idea what I'm watching, but I love pirate ships.
That little blue 70s model glaston looking boat cracked me up. I think i can i think i can the little engine said lol
I got one of those and there is no bloody way i would take it out in that sea state, its bad enough in dead calm!!!! sayin that, he could have fitted a bigger engine, 25hp aint gonna cut it!
are they dead?
Your fricken funny
More power, more power!
thats a 1982 50 or 60 hp, not a 25 lol. plenty of power to get you out of trouble on that little boat.
What is the Coast guard thinking???...."Hey, cut your power as you go into the inlet, we want to talk to you...." F that.
That's what I'm saying. I'll see you guys on the other side
My God....this is December? This time of year my roof is creaking with 2 feet of snow on it, ice is forming in the gutters and the snowblower needs gas.......sigh.... : (
Gerald G time to move!
Its usually not as bad as this, sometimes, in Aug, Sept, october, smooth as glass
I love your videos but damn it can be frustrating, I would like to see what ends up happening in some of these instances, like when the 2 people are knocked off the jetski.....
Thanks, I'll explain why i don't usally show the outcome in the video... 99.999% of the time, the people fight the current for seveal minutes to get back to the ski and then climb back on. If anything interesting happens like a shark or the ski sinks, I will post that... no sharks or sinking yet. I think I have one video on YT of the ppl being pulled up on a police boat.
lol I agree there all like suspense movies except for the 45 footer or whatever .
They DIED...😀😀😀😀
This is the most mildly interesting video I've seen all week
I have spent many hours at Manasquan Inlet in Jersey watching the parade of boats coming and going.Better than most boat shows. Thanks for posting.
you're welcome, happy you enjoy!
I think I'd be wearing an Automatic Inflatable life vest with some of these captains.. amzn.to/2omPPGF
Why would you even try in some of those boats, like tri-haul... f that!!!
Billyboy Haul?
Everett Cox lmao hahahaha

I was in a boat once, and there was a wave and the boat kinda rocked a little, and I was like "Woah!" So I never went in a boat again.
1 in 3 boats on the water are poorly maintained and have no business leaving the dock. 2 out of 3 boat owners are idiots and have no business putting others lives at risk just so they can “own a boat”. 9 out of every 10 boats on the water are operated by someone intoxicated with most being legally drunk. Their passengers are usually shitfaced and not wearing life jackets. I’ll never own another boat again!
@ 5:06 you can see a good technique in the background for getting through these inlets.
Coast guard: Do you have a life jacket for that kid?
Captain of boat: Can we get out the inlet first jackass?
Guy on jet ski with his tinder date: Did some say jackass?
Captain is a dumb ass!
Thank god for the coast guard asking people for lie jackets!!
I love the waves your Haulover cracks up on the run out tide! Keep em coming :)!
6:48 Come on little Johnny you can do it!
No one rule coming in thru an inlet is PUT YOUR LIFE JACKETS ON.
First boat knows how to handle it, that's for sure
You know they're a good captain when you see them slow down to wait for the next swell to catch up to them. Silky smooth! 0:40
I sure wish I could find this on the map.
That struggling lil glassmaster with the 40 hp Johnson made my day
Those Tri-Hull boats are really stable but you can take a beating in rough water. Our family used to have a 1970 Arrowglass Cheetah tri-hull when I was growing up. great boat.
It was just foolhardy for some of those little boats to go out into the channel and beyond in that swell.
I can’t believe how many people are driving thru the inlet with LINES AND FENDERS handing from the side of the boat! Put your lines in when you leave the dock people! Krykeeeee!
WTF, the Coast Guard @ 7:40 ish, a lesson on how to make a ride uncomfortable for your PAX when there is no need. He needs to be leading by example, just ride the swell in and you could sip tea, or be a macho man and beat everyone up.
Of course we don’t want anyone to get hurt, but come on... admit it. You watched for the same reason I did. Lol 😂 🛥
I may or may not be filming it for the same reason... If you want to see the hurt... Check this one out. Lol ruclips.net/video/Av_eqKYsyfI/видео.html
Interesting. I wonder if that was me flying by? Nice video>
Lmao at that muppet on the JetSki. I bet the Coast Guard guys had a laugh on that one.
First ride in...nice to see someone who knows what he's doing for a change. No need to rush and bang everyone around and stress the boat. Next one up is either foolish or playing or showing bravado...either way childish.
5:15 chick had no top on
Good eye
Doesn't any body believe in life jackets when crossing a sand bar or river outlet,, they save lives ..there are too many stupid people putting their lives at risk.. In this video.
My 16.5 foot would make it thru that without a problem. I live in Michigan & that inlet is normal for Lake Erie most days. I have a stabicraft 1650 fisher. Made in New Zealand for extremely rough seas. I have it doing 30 MPH in 5 footers on Lake Erie. Do not believe me check out my videos.
Love Haulover beach and this spot you can even see manatees sometimes come out to the ocean though there!
The small blue boat probably had Problems with the engine
We used to jump off that bridge on out going tide ... look to see that there were no boats coming. Flood tide was no good, would bring into the bay and then there was no way of getting out ... on out going tide, could always swim to the jetty way before the opening
the key is....... trim it up and more trotlle.............thats it. and no water wil not come in your boat.
Man that's nothing. I've been through a lot more than that with a 12 foot V hull and a 9.5 Johnson outboard.....Believe me...Come on man!
Pelt Down Posse lmao
Only a fool would navigate this inlet without a life jacket on
I totally agree. it's better safe than sorry.
They pic there spots to turn round with a lot of though I see🙃😂
Any boats you filmed that uses the yamaha vmax SHO outboard engines?
Experienced versus inexperienced. Not so much haul design.
Dan az True, but you don’t need to be very experienced when your boat is big enough.
I remember playing GTA vice city when see this
I LOVE these vids. Moved back to MN from FL 2 yrs ago. These make me wistful. But I've got a new 1yr old grandson to make it worth it! I'll be visiting next winter for sure.
It is FUCKING STUPID that we now have to watch TWO commercials!
its because the vid is over 10 minutes.. my new vids try to stay under that time so they don't run 2 commercials
I hate when people fuck around in the middle of the inlet !!
It would be great if you actually take a video inside of a boat with big waves too see from another perspective.
That first one was pure talent, followed by the second guy who was pure "fuck it"
I like the one at 2.00 mark... hes like... ok... il go this way... nothing to see here. Really shouldve put that life jacket on. Holding it aint gunna help....
This was fairly mild. With an out-going tide and a good stiff easterly wind those swells can easily stack up to over 8'. I spent 17 yrs. diving tropicals from Key West to West Palm. Government Cut was one of the worst.
1:45-2:20 6:01-7:25 Proof right there some people just shouldn't be at the helm. WTF
That first boat cut through like flat water hahah good yab
A lot of potential Darwin award winners in this video.
4:28 Look the Coast Guard lets show them what idiots we are!
None of these clowns were wearing life jackets apart from the 2 on the jet ski and the coastguard boat. Just a thought!!!!
I don’t know about you but I’d find it crazy to ride a small ass dinghy in big waves like this
4:27 Broken teeth for sure, yikes!
Live next to the haulover inlet. This place is very dangerous... I have seen boats flip here... No joke.
