1st round should have been a win, even though it was close. They did everything right and no bow stuffing or falling. 3rd round should have been a clear loss though. Completely dangerous driving and trim setting for those conditions. They deserved to have flipped or even gone full submarine had they hit the wrong wave
My fav boat that's a tough one. The first big boat I ever saw close up was Gary Montano's 50' Nortech cat with 1500hp turbines. Skater is building their largest boat to date; the new 588 cat. Can't wait to see that one with quad 1650-1750s!! Mystic builds great raceboats(MISS GEICO). Outerlimits builds awesomely fast V bottoms. Wish I could afford all four!

I disagree with you on the Deep Impact (should have been a win for the boats) and the Cigarette (loss). It wasn't MUCH of a bow wash, but I think the bow DID dip into that wave. Like I used to when I was in the USN . . .
A bit about 'stuffing the bow'... Designers years ago, e.g. when I worked at Formula, decided that a down swept bow was somehow desirable. It isn't. It is purely stupid. And dangerous. Bad enough so many boats bowriders. BBows the angle up are always far superior in every way, and make a HUGE difference in rough water.
The most irresponsible example of small craft operation I have ever seen. 30 years of maritime work. Where is the Coast Guard??? Every craft less than 50' should be cited and fined.

I think it depends on the weather, wind and tides more than time of day.
Wind from the east with a falling tide or (to a lesser extent) from the west with the tide coming in is going to get some, interesting, wave action.
