Well said Kev. the kids (not all of them) today would rather play a game walking and climbing hills in the fresh air rather than actually doing it for real. Thats the real problem today...virtual reality!!!!!! I had this on 7" single ...brill!!
Only Benny Hill could make the line "And Ernie got his cocoa there three times every week" sound wicked. God bless him and all British comedians that entertained a generation of Aussies.
Not long after this song came out, an "alternative lyric" version was spread by word of mouth..... and todays' numbnuts think Benny was "un-P.C". Ah well Benny had the last laugh, i mean here he is today ......ON RUclips!!!
I miss him. He made me laugh when I was young, and my grandmother loved him, as well. Thanks, Benny; you're sorely missed, but deeply appreciated and loved.
I'm trying to look for the video that went a long with this song. Last time I watched it was probably last year but now it's like the video completely disappeared. Can someone help me find it please?
@hawickman Indeed there are, sir. (I believe that the great Clint Eastwood - 'Dirty Harry' himself - is a fan of the late, great Benny Hill, btw.) As for that all-encompassing and pervasive phenomenon known as 'Political Correctness', it was unheard of when Mr Hill was @ number 1 in the charts, exactly 40 years ago, with his amusing little ditty: "Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West"). There are many people of my generation - and older - who genuinely believe that 'PC' is
Respond to this video... Supposedly I'm in this easily offended category as I'm a disabled person. Well guess what Not only I'm NOT offended I loved watching Benny Hill I watched every series he had on all channels in the UK. This man was and still is a great comic genius unmatched by the present bunch of trolls we have today pretending to be comics
Ephesians 5:3-4: But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. Read the Bible. It is God's Word. Go to familyradio(com) to learn about the end of the world, which is very near.
there's plenty of great comedy about for those who dislike swearing - flight of the conchords to name but one. did you ever consider the possibility that you are writing off a whole bunch of talented comics by being prudish about swearing. As if no one swore in the 70s haha - That's funny.
@NeilTheFerret1 Sir: I do not mean to be pedantic, but I think I am correct in saying that big Joe Frazier beat the great Muhammad Ali in March 1971. Benny Hill's comedy hit "Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West)" was at number 1 in the charts some nine months later - in December '71.
@FabFM agree.....though today, there may not be as much "poetic license"...........and what of that era, was not in the "saucy" genre. Most of the comedy coming out of England at that time was. And, perhaps that is why it is so well remembered, one would laugh until the belly ached!!!
Wonderful.Real humour .Benny and Dick Emery were two of the best TV performers ever but were driven off by the PC brigade. Its time they went back to their sad existence, devoid of any reality and comedy. You have to pity them really.
When I was little I saw this on a Comic Relief TOTP2 special and it really disturbed me! I hated the ending ... and I heard it for the first time since then on Radio 2 the other morning. I don't know how I felt about it then! Blast from the past.
Benny hill and Dick emery. 2 of the most funny men ever. Todays humour is just not the same. It's all swearing and the kids of today think thats funny ? !! Take me back to 1970 so i can laugh again.
So unPC!! It should be-milkperson or milk distribution officer. Jamei Oliver, (another pom)in his latest booklet asked for; eggs-large,preferably higher welfare! Benny you got a lot to learn. DONT!!!!
Benny Hill Show considered better than Monty Python's Flying Circus by two TV stations (WOR and WLVI TV Channel 56 in Cambridge, Ma)! Read the great bio The Benny Hill Story (at amazon) to learn more!
Probably the funniest song ever. Benny was a great comic. The P.C brigade put paid to his T.V show. It was harmless fun and considering the filth that they show today, pathetic to stop it.
How can any person dislike this, there are some strange people around that's the only reason i can find as without a doubt this is the best funny song EVER.
Sadly the PC brigade put paid to him - what a crap country I live in, as I can never find these folk who are allegedly offended .... do they really exist?
Love Benny Hill ! I got an autograph photo of him and the girls hanging on my wall. I got it just before he passed away . I used to make Benny Hill style videos, speed them up and add music and sound effects, invite my friends over to watch them and LAUGH .
LOL Mike thanks, I Love Benny Hill and his antics and the lil old man LOL... I used to watch this and Monty Python's Flying Circus with my father... I think Faulty Towers and Mr. Bean are HILARIOUS as well Lmaoooooooo... hehe (;
Yes your right nature can be cruel, but its also a state of mind. If you think old, you end up becoming old, think young and do things you use to do when you were younger. I suppose being young at heart is a good thing, not to take things to seriously! I laugh a lot and it really does help. I see too many people some very young who are always, nasty, moaning and have a terrible outlook on life, which just can't be right, take it easy and remember... always look on the bright side of life.
Well said, Christine. I sound like my dad a bit, ha. ...bit its true, what happened to kids playing in the park, fresh air, sunshine etc. Brilliant!! Funny, Benny Hill said 'Ernie was only 52 he didn't want to die'.I USE TO LAUGH THINKING IT WAS VERY OLD. i'M NOW 50!!! A very young 50 i may add! infact i know people 30 years old who act older than me (and look it). lol.
Good attitude fletch. I am now 72 disabled, decrepit and overweight but I have seen more of life than some of our readers and enjoyed it. I can still tell and appreciate a good joke and smile at most things but the last 15 years has been drag quite frankly trying to comprehend the awful selfish disposition of our younger element. My mothers teachings about being polite, courteous, and understanding are now sadly things of the past. If you want any these things today you have to pay!!
My father who died at 92 loved Benny H and my mother who passed away at 90, loved Benny too...
Thank you so much

Ah well Benny had the last laugh, i mean here he is today ......ON RUclips!!!
One of my favourite comedians - loved his wicked and warped sense of humour !! PIty there arent any more true comedians any more.
love this song, agree with AMikeOnLine : to many people like sweary songs, keep it to good old fashioned comedy!
I miss him. He made me laugh when I was young, and my grandmother loved him, as well.
Thanks, Benny; you're sorely missed, but deeply appreciated and loved.
If the Baker killed Ernie he would actually be arrested for murder.
Nah mate , clear case of self defence, Ernie lobbed a strawberry flavoured yoghurt at Ted first.
Also he would be arrested for cruelty to animals, because he kicked Trigger.
i hate Two Ton Ted. Absolutely brilliant certainly made me smile
I'm trying to look for the video that went a long with this song. Last time I watched it was probably last year but now it's like the video completely disappeared. Can someone help me find it please?

@fossil1753- Me,too ! But it can't possibly be that long ago that this song came out...Can it ??

For a short while, many years ago, I lived in the street mentioned at the start of the song - Market street, Eastleigh.
Wonderful.Real humour .Benny and Dick Emery were two of the best TV performers ever but were driven off by the PC brigade. Its time they went back to their sad existence, devoid of any reality and comedy. You have to pity them really.

Rumour has it that Benny Hill wrote this when he was 16...............
And another little known fact, he wrote his own part in The Italian Job.
They say Mr bean was funny but I will always be a fan for Benny. And who says Americans don't understand British humor..lol. My hat goes to you UK !!
Rumour has it that Benny Hill wrote this when he was 16...............

@hawickman [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about Mr Benny Hill].
a seriously over-rated virtue (if indeed it is a virtue at all).
funny really. always worked for was bloody bakers. me chat up line years ago was I put buns in ovens. but thats what I did for a living lol
genius for posting this! This is fucking amazing song.
what can i say, the man was a genius. just listen to the lyrics.. a stale pork pie caught him in the eye and ernie bit the dust...
@butterworthpa
I dont know how old you are but this song is 40 years old, so i doubt we will hear more as benny hill died in 1992
Yes! l agree with both top comments it`s down too of course
UTube that this song lives on
Thank You for posting runapa1949.
classic lmao
@yottskry12 I think that the people that you are referring to are, for the most part, PCZ's (Politically Correct Zealots).
I was a milkman in Camden and Islington for 8 years in the nineties. Best fooking job anyone could ever have.!!!!!!
I don't think it was the likes of Ben Elton that finished off this type of comedy, I think it just became dated.
LMAOO. Good comiedian cong lmao :D better than the crap nowadays!
And a strawberry flavoured yoghurt sent him spining from his hand. Love it!
North Lakes Foods from Penrith at 0:43 ! I get my milk from these. I'd be happy if it came up to my chest!
One of the best comedy songs ever! If you don't believe me a stale pork pie may catch you in the eye! :)
Spooky ending tp the song, huh? Being haunted by a milkman.
@lenamartyn53 - completely agree. My Father used to look like to Benny Hill - had his same humour too.
Poor Ernie...
You mean H'ernie!
In fact, this is entirely euphemisms, so this would be totally fine, even if "PC gone mad" was real.
The song makes me think of 'On The Buses' for some reason? Like all the characters are taking part.
2 facts, Frazier beat Ali on the day I was born and this was number 1, I was born on a great day.
Didn't realise Ernie was a guitarist? " he rushed out in the street with a gold top in his hand"
dont this bring back memories i must of been about 6 wen i first herd this pure and utter classic
Sad to say that I not only remembered all the words but also all the nuances! Still a great laugh.
@Sabatinitennis screw the PC brigade. There is still some of us who find Ernie fucking hilarious
@colonelofcork
Fooking?
I hope you, your customers and yours fared better than that ...
;)
@eriksic Good on ya mate. I grew up with Benny Hill, I agree with your comments. Harmless fun!
RIP Benny Hill a true legend
@fcluddski True, so true. So naughty... but so nice!
Milk bottles at 0:42 and 1:36 are far too new for this song, where's the old pint bottle?
I Loved Benny Hill & You are right --- One of the UK's Gems that the PC brigade Killed!
I just laughed for 3 minutes and 50 seconds flat...
Love Benny Hill ! I got an autograph photo of him and the girls hanging on my wall. I got it just before he passed away . I used to make Benny Hill style videos, speed them up and add music and sound effects, invite my friends over to watch them and LAUGH .
