- Before we officially hit the road, we thought we better tackle some of Australia's softest sand at Red Head Beach!
In this episode, our mate with a modified Porsche joins us, we bump into some epic rescue UNIMOG vehicles and we help a woman who is 40 weeks pregnant!!
Happy watching... cause this is the beginning of our OKA adventures! YEW!!!!
I love how karstan turns into an excited kid waking up at Christmas morning when he sees mud 😂
hahaha
Nice one guys, bring on the adventure.....
That Porsche needsa snorkel.
Thanks for the share 🤙👍
Yep he is upgraded plot since this drive .. diff lockers and having two snorkels with Donaldson filters
It’s beginning to feel like the Karstan and Maxine show again.😂❤Yeah I’m sold on the Oka now. Well done and where’s your new destination taking us punters? Starting to get excited. 😅
I think you guys have sparked a resurgence in the OKA as the ultimate four wheel drive machine. Loving your adventures. 🤘
Possibly! haha thank for following along !
Can't wait to see what shenanigans you get up to.
Last year I saw a Cayenne pulling a small van in Wyperfeld NP. Another legend.
Those rescue Unimogs looks awesome, but your OKA truck brutally awesome🤙
Thanks 👍
I own 2 cayenne and as long as you maintain them they are awesome..good off road as well.
Money no object😂
@@leesydneyharry7958like some of American "ute" owners out there. Mr LivBig and his 430k worth of Silverado for instance.
I live in Nelson Bay it's so cool to have these beautiful beaches so close to home. School holidays and weekends can get hectic but.
Time to do killy loop. I got bogged at red head years ago with a mate dan smith. He had a kia, it was 2am, we may have been stoned, anyway thanks to the local cops that came and saved us lol. Silly teens.
Love the new rig, so happy you guys are back.
Damn that truck is gorgeous. I have always loved Okas.
we share the love !
Just came across your channel recently and have enjoyed the Oka build. So looking forward to seeing your adventures in it and have to say - you're an awesome family and loving your energy and excitement! Keep it coming and be safe!!! Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa!
legends thanks for following along !
You guys do great content. Really entertaining!
thanks mate .. can't wait to hit the desert
That rescue uni mog does look pretty epic
its was an art work that's for sure
As a Unimog owner I am just drooling…..
Btw, when having a truck and recover a 4wd, use the gear matching the lighter vehicle
Haha yeah after seeing the video I'm surprised I didn't rip the front off the ute off haha
If its a 4.8 twin turbo Porsche its probably the best towing vehicle ever. Great suspension (air suspension). Huge power. Better brakes than most cars on the road, and 4wd to boot. Probably a little thirsty (OK maybe a lot...). And the first series had a low range transfer box. It looks great too.
And that sound...
It’s bout to have a factory rear locker too
Even walking on Redhead beach is hard, especially in summer when the sand is hot, omg the burn! Very beautiful and you guys showcased the coastline and Oka nicely! Great video, great rescue, this is what we are excited about!
thanks heaps
Great to see you explaining the importance of tyre pressure on the sand most of the people who get bogged have been to lazy or to ignorant to do it.
Best tip I can give you for quicker inflation times is to remove as much resistance as possible - I.e remove the valve stems, run multiple hoses (like the indeflate system), even change out the tyre valves to big bore agricultural ones. You can also make your own inline tyre inflator pretty easy with a pressure gauge, T piece, ball valve tap and a few airhose fittings so you can walk away from the inflator while it’s doing its thing and also have a lot less resistance then a normal inflator. Do those things and your refill time will be halved at least.
‘Unidan’ also have a good video on their RUclips about filling up unimog tyres that has a few good tips in it 👌
Great info thanks heaps !!
Yeh the oka has proven it's an off-road beast. Used in many applications from defense to rescue. The 2 Ambos you saw are new to them with more coming. Designed to assist in flood prone and fire emergencies where rescue is difficult
Unimog and Oka are cool and remember wot you said Karsten when you did The Holland Track in the Kombi you said when we get the Oka you are going to do the track in winter 🥶 can't bloody wait cheers legends 😄
haha yes I did say that haha damn haha guess I have to do it now haha
You know you have to it now but let me know I will come with you it will be a good laugh cheers legends 😄
Porsche + caravan + tracks + dust n water 😂🤦♂️
Saw a big VW ‘Toe-rag’ thinking he could do the same last year …. Lucky he had RACQ ultimate!
HAHAHAHA
Do you have the number for RACQ Ultimate? Asking for a friend 😂😂
Thank you, great to see the truth all finished. Wishing you safe travels, from Brisbane.
Thanks for watching! Feeels great to be done ✅
that thing is excellent. Big advance on the Kombi which I loved. I hope you kept it or it went to a good home. I see you have a new baby. Lovely. She' s happy
yes still haver the kombi ... we will be upgrading it for a Cape York trip next year !!
@@KarstanAndMaxine excellent thanks
As long as the computer doesn't fail, that Porsche might be fun...
Haha it sounds epic
Love the truck you should give it a run on stockton.
Yeah one day! We’ve left the area now!
Congratulations on an awesome vehicle - you have done a great fit-out! I have owned an ex army Unimog for seven years and I have just finished an expedition build on a 1994 Isuzu FTS 700 4x4 with rear diff lockers. It does not compare to the Unimog for 4x4 capability, but it is a good second best? The reason I am telling you this is that when I got into really soft sand or a steep sand dune to get over, I would let my big tires down to 25 PSI and it would roll up over the the sand dune and the same for soft sand. The Isuzu is a bigger and heavier vehicle (12,500kgs) than the Unimog and I have super single rims and tires which are 385/??/22.5 - They are the same size as the Unimog's and I let them down to 25 PSIG in the front and 30 PSIG at the back.
I have done approximately 15,000kms in the vehicle (most of it in the sand on the west coast of WA) since I built it and have had no problems? Go slow and don't hoon when the tires are down and you will not get bogged - In the sand dunes of Lancelin the tourist busses run big trucks/busses like the Isuzu and they have them at 25 PSIG all round! Happy days and again a fantastic vehicle.
I like the ambo has the onboard inflat deflat , just choose tyre pressure from cabin^^ Dakar spec
yeah its pimp
Good luck on you!
Thank you!!
Love the excitement you guys show just being in that Beast? 🥰
Did the guy you recover have recovery points? That bit made me nervous thinking his front end would rip off 😱🫢🤣
haha it looked like it through that ute around that's for sure
Those will be be the Unimogs NSW just purchased for things like flood rescue:
NSW Ambulance will roll out eight specially designed vehicles known as Hazardous Area Rescue Ambulances (HARA), the first of their kind in the world, optimising response capabilities during natural disasters and in difficult terrain.
They’re built to go through flood waters up to 1.2m and through fires.
They are amazing !! The external bar work are fire suspension systems .. charged with high pressure water .. also squirters on the wheels .. incredible gear !
Im still trying to get my head around tyre pressures on my 1.5t Suzuki 😂 26 psi on road, I think I was told around 15 for the beach
This whole video I’m trying to work out what was missing. Where’s Zu???😊
It was her last week of daycare before we headed off!!
Jesus, that Oka is a savage beast... Just freakn awesome. To bad there is none in the EU...
there are a few .. but older ones .. some in South Africa also ..
Maxine that was dangerous driving,,,
You guys made that look so easy considering the weight ay. I’m looking forward to just how far will the oka go. Height I recon will be the only down fall.
yeah height is a problem at 3M .. I predict ill be in the roof rack with a chain saw haha
Great to have you back. But GoPro advice should have disclaimer
They are shite 😅
old ones weren't great that's for sure had them since the first release.. new ones are completely different ..no issues at all
Love it guys 🎉
yew !!
Max you are very excited 😂
Hahaha I was cracking up editing this one ... had to cut out so money HOLY MOLYS .. she was in her element !
@@KarstanAndMaxine so good to see you both so happy 😁 🤙
being a Hamradio guy I was curious what you are using for Radios on the OKA?
We have the GME xrs atm with both 3db and 9db antennas
Your a truckie chick now 🎉🎉 💯👍👍
Hahaha woohoo !!
Get Sunnglasses or at least a cap or something else to protect the eyes of your child. PLEASE
Ok Karen!
The Sun is good for eyes & we shouldn't be wearing sunglasses as it damages our eyes over time
that was fun!
sure was haha ... now for the desert !
@@KarstanAndMaxine come to Quartzsite Az. it is finally under 110 F. If that sounds familiar- I sold Boomerang to Ben and Leah from "Kombi Life"
I love the Porshe for its uniqueness....
Looks like max is still on air suspension…he better make sure it’s 100% and he changes the connection arms on those air shocks sensors as they go brittle, break and the suspension will drop..better take spare sensors ..
Thanks for the advice Ian. I’ve already replaced the links and have redone the upper bushes :)
Run a ring line around the chassis with 5 quick connects, so much faster to pump up your tyres.
yeah we have the in deflate ... I guess it just the 20 psi to 75 psi on massive tyres that makes it a mission
@@KarstanAndMaxine you don’t have air as part of the truck right? No engine driven compressor or tanks? (I have nearly 300psi on tap)
What air compressor are you using? We’re thinking of going with a 240v one as like you we have a great inverter and charging system
The air compressor is mechanical .. built into the Cummins engine .. it pumps the tanks for the air brakes etc
Better hope those cats don't go out on that Porsche 😮 coil rig never see those here in the West of California seen a blue older benz once 🤌😎
Tyre pressure does have a big part to play and so does the footprint of the tyre especially when it comes to unlevel weights of the vehicle.
If your road pressure is let's say 60 psi with a footprint of 30 cm that's on the front and 60 psi on the rear any footprint might be 35 cm because you have extra weight now your rear tires are working harder than the front which will heat up more.
When you're on the beach and your lower to let's say 35 Psi which is still very safe make sure all four tires are the same footprint and at this point they might be 40 cm footprint which means you could have for demonstration as 40 psi rear 35 Psi front because of the back being heavy it's all level and same footprint at this point your vehicle will love you because everything is working exactly the same no stress on your Driveline more safer and comfortable to drive on beach or Simpson Desert.
Great in formation .. Yeah we ran 20psi in the front and 30psi in the rear and it went great ... had another play with lesser pressures also to see the difference .. 15 front and 20 rear and it was unstoppable ..when these X force tyres are all let down to 10psi you get a foot print of 1.2sqm .. so crazy
Oops OKA 🤙
🤙🏻
Protéger la tête du bébé ne semble pas trop préoccuper cette mère !
Fraser Island in a few weeks?
that was the plan but has since planned !! we are crossing the guts !! Byron to steep point !
🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈. Cooooooooo eeeeeeeeee hello fam Wowzers well jel how lovely to help out too lol was it a boy or a girl ??????? Big hugs xxxx
28:50 mate did you turn lockers off
haha yep .. she was back in 2wd
the cayenne is the same price of the OKA
Where's Zuri?
she was with her nan and pop that day .. get filled with sugar haha
O view gang
haha your fast !
still havent fixed that sun visor issue....lol its annoying eh??
hahaha yeah finally installed tighter visor holders !!! sorted !!
@@KarstanAndMaxine awesome - loving ya vids
That Porsche is not going to make it worst decision ever I know someone that tried he didn't make it it'll overheat
Should I just quit now Gazman?
@@BevitronHey mate, as someone who has learnt to think outside the box in life along with over 3 decades in the automotive industry I've seen plenty of surprises along the way. In being a fan of Porsche Safari and rally vehicles along with their history, I realise your choice is less common amongst the norm though appreciate that regardless of the badge each vehicle has its strengths and weaknesses.
Good stuff for also thinking outside the box and will keep an eye out for you around the country.
Cheers:)
@@Bevitron no you shouldn't quit now because it's all part of the adventure that's why we buy four-wheel drives
6:28 Karsten, please don't be one of those annoying people who operate simplex on a repeater input channel - channels 31 to 38 & 71 to 78 are UHF repeater input channels. The OKA performs well on the sand! Cheers!
you can blame James for that one haha .. yeah iv since read all this .. that you though !
All good! Yup, the only drawback with large tyres - they take longer to air up.... 🤣
haha 100%
Where was the star of the show?
haha zero was at day care this day .. very much missed our little star !
@@KarstanAndMaxine
I was wondering the same thing.
Where is the star 🌟.
She missed an awesome day.
For what you paid for the OKA you could of had a Unimog.
yep .. the unimog is 200mm wider .. so limits you down bush tracks .. the oak has a wheel base the same as a land cruiser
Kudos to Karstan and Maxine for supporting Australian manufacturing by choosing the Oka:)
Where’s baby?
In the back? 🤔😄
I predict the Porsche will be useless and empty his wallet
Hahahaha can't wait for him to read this !
Haha useless is a strong word Peter. I guess we will see!!
Your old thinks to much about himself than his family
Inferior Mog.😂
no way ... haha ... ill have to do a UNIMOG VS OKA video
