Wear pads and helmet guys, at least when you are starting out if nothing else. I always carry a first aid kit and keep up regular training, every time at the skate park there's an avoidable injury.
My son learned his drop ins on those very same ramps in the order you recommended. My pro tip (from my exceedingly amateur self) is to picture a invisible string from your board’s nose to your index finger. It’s only 6” long. If you pull away, your hand, you break it. Keeping your hand down keeps your shoulder down and the rest takes care of itself.
After watching an embarrassing amount of stupid short videos, out of nowhere this video popped up and really gave me hope for my next skating session! Thank you so much, I think that's great advice!
I wish RUclips was around when I was younger. The amount of knowledge being spread is insane. This is the type of shit I was trying to get off the kids ahead of me in skill level and they would gatekeep all the damn time. I learned the hard way, which isn't inherently bad, but I could have learned with a lot less cuts and bruises.
I can drop in but I stayed to watch for just the vibes, I love the cold day skate sesh and this dudes calming voice. Very sweet, I’d love to hear the history of skateboarding from him.
If anyone is worried about people looking at you or made fun of at the skatepark. That shouldn’t happen. If you see people looking at you it’s probably because they remember when they were first starting and are happy to see more people getting into the sport! Don’t hesitate to ask people for tips, the community is very nice from what I’ve seen over the past 10 years. Good luck!
This is exactly how I would teach people to drop in at my local , start on the flat ramp, it’s actually harder to drop in on but mentally a lot less scary
I've tried dropping in on a 6 ft curved ramp and I always lean back slightly but the all the weight on the front foot makes total sense! I'll try that on a small ramp
I'd actually recommend to start on a small ramp (curved) and not a kicker. You don't ever drop in on kickers, and kickers feel very different. Small quarter is the way to start imo
I agree I can nearly land a kickflip now but just really started dropping in and it’s so much easier with coping to drop off on a small curved pipe. I feel like that sets you up for success gives you a second to get forward. As soon as you put an ounce of pressure on a bank you go and it’s super hard to get forward enough. Had me mentally too messed up to commit thinking I wasn’t ready for coping and it’s so casual on coping really.
Def helps. I was watching a vid yesterday of a guy almost dropping in with his front foot only to learn. I go back and forth. Front and back. When it comes to the way I’ll fall when dropping in. Falling forward is absurd. Don’t let that front foot wander in front of the 🛻
The "slam" is a great tip. That's how I learned to drop from huge vertical halfpipes before I could even ollie up a sidewalk curb lmao. I just love dropping from huge ramps it's a lot of fun.
I think for beginners leaning forward is a bit ambiguous, for me the key was getting my head over the front of the board before really pressing down on the board. I think beginners will press as they lean forward which on a bank is tricky as it tends to slip out without the coping. Absolutely agree to start smaller and working the way up is the way to go, I wish more skateparks had this in mind, where a beginner has enough features to work with.
Don't lean back but also don't forget to shift your weight as you get down to the bottom. That's how I fucked up on my first "big" drop in lol. It is possible to commit so hard you forget you still need to balance, so make sure you do both!
Big up Fidel, great instructions, very helpful to someone who skated most of life & had trouble with this, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend helmets for people either just as a constructive criticism, other than that 11/10 keep it wheel!
Prefect tutorial, no fodder and bullshit to make a marketable long video, no nonsense, just for the sake of the tutorial. Keep it up I’ll be showing my kid these videos one day lol

Man, I'm learning this way late in life 😂 we didn't have any skateparks here growing up and I always wanted to skate a half pipe, even a mini one, but that shit never happened haha
The other day I was dropping in off of like a two foot ramp and I fell right on my side hit my helmet on the ground and my rib still hurts this helps a lot more
why are his tutorials less than a minute and 10 times better than all the 8 min long tutorials ive seen
Thank you!! I have ADHD so I completely understand (:
@@FidelJamesGonzalez does skateboarding help it? (I don't wanna come off as rude I'm just curious)
i broke my wrist from leaning forward too far when dropping in
Because he is the sensei
Because unlike the 8 min tutorials he has to only put the important parts where the 8 min tutorials explain it in much more depth.
Also, don’t forget, make sure you bend your knees, don’t want to drop in straight legged
couldn’t agree more!
