Glenn Hughes is such a great bass player and singer. I love his music since 1974 when I was a young teenager and heard him as a member of Deep Purple. Fortunately I had two times the opportunity to see him playing live in Bochum, Germany. Sorry for my bad english...
He was not part of any major band for any of their truly memorable years. His time with Deep Purple and Sabbath didn't coincide with any of their stuff that they're actually known for. Even calling him a rock demi-god is a stretch.

61 now and never was into Glenn, and thought Joe was just a blues player. And suddenly I saw their 2011 gig yesterday. The best rock gig I've seen in the 2000's.. I'm all in from now. It hit me like a hammer! All kinds of "supergroups" in the last decades but these geezers had great songs and they delivered, maaaaan the got the essence of Hard Rock as it was supposed to be. And they stayed for the next attack., BCC V released a few months ago. They fkin stuck together through Covid with another things running aside.The same four guys are back!

Every single guy in this lineup could just go on a solo rampage if you will, but they coalesce and groove as one. Absolutely showing respect and love for each other. Awesomeness.
2024 sees the fifth release by the highly skilled rock group of veterans in Black Country Communion. Surprisingly after the last album was BCCIV, they’ve gone with….and I know you’ll be surprised….V The gang of 4 individual talents returned, fighting fit and raring to go. In case you have been living under a rock, for the uninitiated, BCC includes the talents of Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Sherinian, and Jason Bonham. Also along for the ride is erstwhile collaborator in the producers chair Kevin Shirley. A break up ensued in 2012 with Hughes stating that "Afterglow" might be the bands last album, blaming the bands lack of regular touring. Things got a tad heated where a gig in the UK was pulled, and Bonamassa wouldn’t let the other 3 use the name Black Country Communion. However the fickle finger of fate always seems to raise its head when there is good chemistry and money on the table (I.e.album sales). Some 7 years after BCCIX, comes, V. With V BCC have released their best and most consistent piece of work to date. Hughes is an absolute beast of a vocalist ever since he did Burn for Deep Purple in 1974. He is one of the few (if any) where their voice has got even better in their 7th decade. If you think that the opener "Enlightened" blows away the cobwebs then Hughes brings the funk into "Stay Free" and "Red Sun" which has a riff that’ll loosen those fillings for you without even having to find a dentist. Other highlights are "Restless" which sees Joe come to the fore as it's the soaked in blues feel . "Letting Go" has a riff that AC/DC Bon Scott era would have been proud of. In many of the songs it is a vocal and guitar riff trade off between Bonamassa and Hughes. Whatever Joe can play, Glenn can match him in vocal histrionics. Such so is the intro to "You’re Not Alone" , the song soon melds into Black Zeppelin territory (it had to appear somewhere !) and Bonamassa steps up to the mic in the main. One has to have a certain amount of confidence to trade off with Hughes, and it works well, and should happen more frequently. The super-group moniker has been used far too freely over the years, but in the case of BCC it is rightly so. All the 4 members of the puzzle bring their own game to V, making it one of the best rock albums if 2024, and in my opinion, the best so far in the BCC catalogue. Even though these players are dedicated to other projects (it’s worth wondering where Bonamassa finds the time), they congeal like a road hardened unit. Kudos to Shirley whose man-behind-the-curtain sonic supervision provides the road map for these guys to let loose and detonate like the pros they are. На мой взгляд, наряду с Machine Head - это лучший альбом группы. Бонамассу расчухал только пару-тойку лет назад, когда скачал его дискографию. Black Country Communion знаю пока преимущественно по Ютуб в силу наличия там собственно Джо После твоего комментария глянул на состав. Увидел там знакомую дирижаблевскую фамилию, чего с 80-го года не могло быть а принципе. Выяснилось, что это даже не однофамилец, а сын. Занятно.
С примерно с середины 70-х в теме мне тогда лет 13-15 было. Скажу честно кроме 90-х не до рока, сама жизнь была по хлеще heavy metall а с нулевых все в поряде. Всем приятного просмотра прослушивания.

Так что с середины семидесятых сижу на рок-музыке. Да и вообще на музыке. Про Джо из инета узнал тоже не так давно. А про младшего Бонэма в начале девяностых, когда попался его первый альбом на толкучке в Чкаловске. Дерека Шериняна ещё со времён его участия в DREAM THEATER знаю. Все классные и невероятно крутые.

I have good name for a band, Black Oak Indiana. All other towns named Black Oak are in states whose names start with consonants, so the name wouldn't flow well, but Arkansas and Indiana both can work, and only one of them has already been used for a band.

This one doesn't reach the pinnacle of RED SUN - mainly because it sounds like several different songs crammed into one track - and they don't smoothly fit together. But if they don't gel into a perfect cake, the ingredients are all utterly delicious - a killer riff, Glenn Hughes' still-great vocals, wonderful musicianship from everyone and quality production. It's therefore a paradox - a substandard song that's great to listen to. A must for the Hard Rock playlist. My Score: Very Good 4*

This one doesn't reach the pinnacle of RED SUN - mainly because it sounds like several different songs crammed into one track - and they don't smoothly fit together. But if they don't gel into a perfect cake, the ingredients are all utterly delicious - a killer riff, Glenn Hughes' still-great vocals, wonderful musicianship from everyone and quality production. It's therefore a paradox - a substandard song that's great to listen to. A must for the Hard Rock playlist. My Score: Very Good 4*
