I "sew" appreciate your clear instructions and patient teaching style.
Thank you "sew" much!
I purchased this pattern on Etsy. Just wanted to take a look at your tutorial. I'm so glad I did. Your tutorial is amazing. I have been sewing for about sixty years and I still learned a few things from this tutorial. Thanks so much. I truly enjoyed this.
Thanks. You are so kind
Hi Jan Can I just say you are a GREAT teacher, I already had a bucket hat pattern and just could not get them to look right, I then purchased another pattern just in case and guess what they still had puckers etc, then I came across your tutorial and I used the pattern I had and the hats turned out amazing because of your guidance. I might not get asked to make hats again, how ever I feel that your tutorial was definitely worth the cost of a pattern and more. So there for I am going to buy your pattern right now as a thank you. I look forward to watching more of your tutorials.
Thanks. You are so kind

Thank you for another great tutorial walking through each step in detail! You do a wonderful job! I’m now ready to try making this type of hat!
You are so welcome! Have fun sewing and let me know how it goes.
Самый лучший вариант летней панамы! Спасибо!!! Без перевода все поняла. Крепкого здоровья!
I very much enjoyed your video tutorial on bucket hats. I watched several different videos on how to make it and followed 3 different methods. One turned it at the brim, one on the side and your where you separately connect the outside and inside to the brim 1st and then turn it. In your method, the brim is sewn to both the inside and outside of the hat at the same time. Your method is the best because after the hat is turned, the brim is secured through the outside and lining of the hat. In addition, the topstitching in your tutorial made it look better when finished, and I really like the cord and zip thingy, and even put some grommets on one of them. Thank you for a well thought out and easy to follow tutorial.
Thanks. You are so kind!
Thanks for sharing your style of sewing bucket hats
You are so welcome
I will give this a try with grommets so that you can truly wear it either way. Great tutorial! Thank you

YOU ARE AN AMAZING SEAMSTRESS AND TEACHER.....THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You are so welcome
Although I was frustrated about buying the pattern, I have subscribed and watched more videos. I've found that your instructions are excellent and easy to follow. I've been sewing off and on for many years (I'm 75 yo), but have still learned many great techniques from watching. Thank you!
Thanks and you are so welcome
I loved the many details on this really pretty hat! I use your channel for pillow instructions, you are a fave!
Oh thank you!
Excellent tutorial! Thank you
You're very welcome!
And yet, another great tutorial.
I enjoy your tutorials so much, you explain things so that everything is understandable. I will definitely be making this hat.
Thanks for a great tutorial
You're very welcome! Let me know how it goes.
Oh my goodness I'm glad I found you. I watched a couple of your videos and had to subscribe. I love your sewing. This hat is just what I need. I have a small head and the hats that fit me are small childrens sizes but then I have bunnies, unicorns and other things that I would rather not wear but with your pattern I can make my own with my own lovely fabrics, made to match my outfits. Thank you, thankyou.
You are so welcome.
What a great idea. To make matching hats.
Excellent step by step instructions. Thank you
You are so welcome
Awesome!! Thank you 🕊
You are so welcome
Jan! Your tips are always appreciated. I thought I knew all about sewing on buttons…it turns out I didn’t! Thx so much! Michele
You are so welcome!
I'm not into sewing, but I have a love for bucket hats. Enjoyed the video!
Thanks
Another great tutorial and excellent project.🐞🕉️🧵
Thank you so much 😊
Absolutamente maravilhoso, parabéns pelo capricho ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! You are so welcome!
Thanks for the through, simple to understand tutorial. I must have watched 20 of these and messed up my first attempt. I use thrifted fabric, thank goodness. Once I perfect a project, I may buy nice material and make gifts for friends and family. Newly retired and thought I knew how to sew! 😂 I thought threading the needles would be the most difficult part. Phew!
You are so welcome
Great Video and training
Thanks and you are so welcome
Thank you great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Great tutorial. I never thought to stitch in the ditch when doing the brim top stitching .
Thank you!
this is by far the BEST tutorial for a bucket hat that I have come across. I tried doing another video and it went awfully! I will be using this tutorial from now on! Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you!
I wish I could share my awesome hat with you! It came out fantastic!!! This is only my second hat and it is by far the best tutorial!!!!!
Love from South Africa 🌍
Love right back at you!
This was super helpful thank you very much much appreciated I bought 2 bucket hats I loved the print but was way to big and wanted to know how I could make it smaller and this video helped a lot thanks ❤😊🥰🙏
Awesome, glad it was helpful.
Best I’ve seen for bucket my first attempt looked like a top hat lol
thank you
At home in Jamaica don't want to pull out my hair so now i fine you going to make one now.Thank you.
You’re welcome 😊
Great video. I need to learn how to get the pattern. You explain very well
You can get the pattern here. youmakeitsimple.com/product/bucket-hat-bundle-pdf-sewing-pattern-reversible-8-sizes-baby-to-adult-large/
Jan, thanks for the pattern and the tutorial. I’m making a practice now and the “real deal” once I’m sure it will fit.
Hat finished and … too big! I’ll size down. Your directions were very helpful though.
What size did you try? Can I ask what your head measurement is and what size you made? Just a note: if you don't use any interfacing, you may want to size down. Your feedback is helpful. Thanks for commenting!
@@JanHowell I first did the adult size, based on the size 23. My head measurement is 22 so…. I did the next size down and it fit great. The larger size will fit my nephew, so that will work. A gift!
Very interesting and unique
Thank you!
I find that when wanting to press the crown of the bucket hat that a new roll of paper towels fits it pretty perfect
Thanks for sharing that tip, I'll have to try that.
Thank you.🙏❤️🇱🇰
You are so welcome
Christina again is the Bucket Hat template that I'm looking for in XL. Thx
The head measurement for the largest size is 24.5 inches
Which seam allowance did you use when sewing the brim to the hat (where you used the 4), 1/8 or 1/4”? Love this!
Use a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Then when you sew in the lining, you'll just follow that same seam line. I hope that makes sense.
Hi Jan, love the way you teach sewing also love this tutorial ❤️ I’m looking for a bucket hat where you can have a hole in the back for a poney tail to come out of… wish I knew how to figure this out. Can you help me on this? Thanks
Great video Jan! Do you have a link for the cording you used?
I sure do geni.us/n1FHYmZ
Can you make a bucket hat using leather or faux leather? I love your video, such great tips and made making a bucket hat much easier for me.
I havn't ever tried. But it shouldn't be too thick of faux leather. Let me know if you try it. I have used canvas and it works fine.
Love the video! How do I find the right size, and do I measure the head to find the right size? Thank you.
The pattern comes with a head measurement guide.youmakeitsimple.com/product/bucket-hat-pdf-sewing-pattern-reversible-teen-xs-child-large-to-adult-large/
HELLO BEAUTIFUL work - new here
Thanks and welcome
just found you! I'm a total beginner sewist & I'll be binging your videos. do you have a very easy sewing machine cover or how to on putting on bias tape around neck & sleeves? always seem to look wonky so if you have any tips?! thanks again for these videos!
So glad you found me! Here is a link to one of my videos showing how to add b knit bias to t-shirt necks and sleeves. It is a little different than how you would do it with woven fabric. That video is in the making. Thanks for reaching out

Hi I love your video thank you. I have gone and purchased this pattern but doesn’t have the baby pattern. What have I done wrong. Thank you
The link for the baby pattern is here youmakeitsimple.com/product/baby-child-reversible-bucket-hat-pdf-sewing-pattern-baby-to-child-xl/
There are two separate patterns, one for the larger sizes and one for baby & children.
You can by the bundle here with both adult and children HERE. youmakeitsimple.com/product/bucket-hat-bundle-pdf-sewing-pattern-reversible-8-sizes-baby-to-adult-large/
Very easy to follow lesson! Question: I want to add about 3 inches to the width of the brim to shield my face more from the sun. Yet, I don’t want the brim to look floppy. How do I calculate how much fabric to remove from the outer edge of the brim pattern? I already ruined one sun hat by not removing enough from the brim pattern (using the slit and overlap method in 7 places on the brim pattern piece x 2 for the entire brim). I still ended up with a slightly too floppy brim. I just guessed at how much to overlap the vertical slit/slashes.
If you add 3 inches to the brim, it will end up floppy. You could add a more stiff interfacing that would hold the shape better. Test the interfacing on with two layers of fabric and see if it holds its shape. I hope that was helpful.
Thank you for this tutorial.
I just got lost on the part where you top stitch several times around the outside brim at the end. Are you sewing over the cording?
Yes, the cording is between the layers of fabric.
Question Jan.. how does the little toggle hardware stay on the cord? Worried the little one could just pull it off and in the mouth it goes. Have never used one and you did not put a knot in cord sooo how does it stay in? Thanks for a fun summer project.
Good point to bring awareness to! I did forget to mention if adding a toggle to an infant or toddler's hat, to tie the end of the cording OR just omit the toggle and have two cords or ribbon that ties under the chin. Thanks for the comment and I will add that to the description. Enjoy your day!
I have done one piece of cording threaded through a toggle before attaching so that the toggle is attached!
❤❤❤

Awesome video! Cant wait to try it. Can you tell me the brand of iron you use?! Cordless would be great! Do you like it?
this is my cordless geni.us/CjjbxhW
this is my new one, bu not cordless. geni.us/dZi6
both have advantages.
How do I find her pattern? I love it, and she is very good at explaining how to do it
You can get the pattern here youmakeitsimple.com/product/bucket-hat-pdf-sewing-pattern-reversible-teen-xs-child-large-to-adult-large/
Can I buy your pattern? I really like your hat! Love Lena

hi jan i have just made my very first bucket hat for my maldives holiday i pretty pleased with it although not perfect but good enough for me my only problem is its a bit too big as iv a small head is there any way to sort it without making ait all again plz x
Do you mean "shorten" ? If it's a cotton fabric and you just want the brim smaller, you could cut it down just outside one of the topstitching row and let it fray. Many like that look.
@@JanHowell this s so helpful.
can you tell where to buy that portable iron, thanks
The link is in the description, but here it is geni.us/zMATIkb
Jan. How Caan I get the patterns to print please. I need to make an XL. Thx, Christina
You can get the pattern here. It includes an XL. What is your head measurement? youmakeitsimple.com/product/bucket-hat-pdf-sewing-pattern-reversible-teen-xs-child-large-to-adult-large/
Thanks for the tutorial, I am not seeing the information for the pattern. Please advice
The link for the pattern is in the description. Here it is as well. youmakeitsimple.com/product/bucket-hat-bundle-pdf-sewing-pattern-reversible-8-sizes-baby-to-adult-large/
Ho2 do i get tge different sizes to download
where can i get those foots you are using i don’t have anything like that and it will sure help me with sewing the small seam allowances?
You can google the make and model of your machine and there will usually find shops that sell additional feet for your machine. A lot fo presser feet are universal and will work on a lot of machines.
Hello I love the video but is the pattern free bc it’s saying 12.95 fa mi?
This particular pattern is not free.
Can I use a pinking shears instead of notching the round seam?
yes you can
went looking for a bucket hat and found another crafter named jan, what are the odds? lol thanks for tehe video :D
Danyharrison you are clever
You are so welcome
What iron are you using, is it cordless?
This is the cordless iron in the video geni.us/CjjbxhW
I also have another iron that I really like that lifts up when you when you change positions so it doesn't burn the fabric.

hello very nice lady I love your beautiful videos and sewing skills for your sewing machine please kindly film how to operate the sewing machine electric foot pedal how it's used to sew please OK?please kindly let me know OK?thank you very much
good suggestion, I'll see what I can do
How to put on the head?😢
.
Can this be for men?
absolutely!
The written instructions I think are incorrect at step 9, Lining/Inner Fabric Application. It says to place the lining WRONG side out. Your video shows the opposite. Yes, no?
You are correct. But it really doesn't matter if the lining or outer pieces are switched because it is a reversable hat. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the heads up.
I love your bucket hat .
But I hate when you see fast.
Thanks for the feedback!
I love your bucket hat .
But I hate when you sew fast.
thanks for the feedback
There’s hundreds of FREE patterns available????????????????? ?$12.95 + tax is not reasonable, not today.
.
From my Mom: The pattern is not free. I don't give out email address. Why can't you just make a pdf available? Selling the emails? Last video I will watch of yours.
I won’t even watch the video😆 “Radix malorem est cupidite”
@@gerandgadantzing5190 She wants that RUclips money but gives nothing in return. She wouldn't even give me a response.
The patterns I design do take a lot of time to create and I do give a lot of patterns and tutorials for FREE on my website.
I’ve just watched about five bucket hat tutorials. This is by far the best tutorial.
The video is not advertised as having a free pdf. And I can see by the standard of the finished product the detailed work that has gone into designing this hat, and making the tutorial.
So I won’t have a problem paying for the PDF.
But if you do have a problem paying for the PDF, then feel free to get a free pattern elsewhere. But please don’t try and guilt trip a hard working maker and designer into giving you free stuff. It can’t be easy to face unpleasant comments as a maker. And this unpleasant comment was unnecessary.
Great tutorial! Thank you.
You're very welcome
