    Hi Jan Can I just say you are a GREAT teacher, I already had a bucket hat pattern and just could not get them to look right, I then purchased another pattern just in case and guess what they still had puckers etc, then I came across your tutorial and I used the pattern I had and the hats turned out amazing because of your guidance. I might not get asked to make hats again, how ever I feel that your tutorial was definitely worth the cost of a pattern and more. So there for I am going to buy your pattern right now as a thank you. I look forward to watching more of your tutorials.

    I very much enjoyed your video tutorial on bucket hats. I watched several different videos on how to make it and followed 3 different methods. One turned it at the brim, one on the side and your where you separately connect the outside and inside to the brim 1st and then turn it. In your method, the brim is sewn to both the inside and outside of the hat at the same time. Your method is the best because after the hat is turned, the brim is secured through the outside and lining of the hat. In addition, the topstitching in your tutorial made it look better when finished, and I really like the cord and zip thingy, and even put some grommets on one of them. Thank you for a well thought out and easy to follow tutorial.

    Very easy to follow lesson! Question: I want to add about 3 inches to the width of the brim to shield my face more from the sun. Yet, I don’t want the brim to look floppy. How do I calculate how much fabric to remove from the outer edge of the brim pattern? I already ruined one sun hat by not removing enough from the brim pattern (using the slit and overlap method in 7 places on the brim pattern piece x 2 for the entire brim). I still ended up with a slightly too floppy brim. I just guessed at how much to overlap the vertical slit/slashes.

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  Год назад

      If you add 3 inches to the brim, it will end up floppy. You could add a more stiff interfacing that would hold the shape better. Test the interfacing on with two layers of fabric and see if it holds its shape. I hope that was helpful.

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  2 года назад

      Good point to bring awareness to! I did forget to mention if adding a toggle to an infant or toddler's hat, to tie the end of the cording OR just omit the toggle and have two cords or ribbon that ties under the chin. What iron are you using, is it cordless?

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  9 месяцев назад

      This is the cordless iron in the video geni.us/CjjbxhW
      I also have another iron that I really like that lifts up when you when you change positions so it doesn't burn the fabric.

    The written instructions I think are incorrect at step 9, Lining/Inner Fabric Application. It says to place the lining WRONG side out. Your video shows the opposite. Yes, no?

    • @JanHowell
      @JanHowell  8 месяцев назад

      You are correct. But it really doesn't matter if the lining or outer pieces are switched because it is a reversable hat. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the heads up.

    From my Mom: The pattern is not free. I don't give out email address. Why can't you just make a pdf available? Selling the emails? Last video I will watch of yours.

      The patterns I design do take a lot of time to create and I do give a lot of patterns and tutorials for FREE on my website.

    • @annwestcott3752
      @annwestcott3752 Год назад +2

      I’ve just watched about five bucket hat tutorials. This is by far the best tutorial.
      The video is not advertised as having a free pdf. And I can see by the standard of the finished product the detailed work that has gone into designing this hat, and making the tutorial.
      So I won’t have a problem paying for the PDF.
      But if you do have a problem paying for the PDF, then feel free to get a free pattern elsewhere. But please don’t try and guilt trip a hard working maker and designer into giving you free stuff. It can’t be easy to face unpleasant comments as a maker. And this unpleasant comment was unnecessary.
