Damn when Conan compares her to a schoolgirl I was like, whoa, didn’t expect there to be a lot of girls going to school in this milieu, at least not in Conan’s home turf. Malala would approve.
@fredrikgranstrom6743 the entire collection, yes. I bought it some time back, but I can't stand the reader who sounds like some effeminate college kid and not the sort of person I would like to hear read a Conan story.
@@libertyprime6932 that would be super dope I’m actually working on a comic book/ graphic novel based on africa but I would really like to use hyperborian age as a back drop.
The way the reader pronounces the word 'sword' without leaving the 'w' silent is the same way REH himself pronounced it, according to those who met him.
Are you sure you're not talking about "sward"? This is a portion of ground covered in grass and one of REH's favorite words, along with "thews". I may not have been paying close enough attention but I didn't hear an instance of the reader pronouncing sword with an audible w
In our real world history, there existed an actual group of Indo-European peoples historians refer to as Cimmerians (pronounced kuh-MEHR-ee-uhns). As a kid, reading the Conan comics, I just assumed that the word “Cimmeria” was pronounced suh-MEHR-ee-uh. In the end, if we’re talking about Howard’s FICTIONAL geographic region or its inhabitants (Cimmeria/Cimmerians), the pronunciation is largely subjective. Unless there is a peer-reviewed source one can cite where Howardian scholars unambiguously agreed upon and then declared an OFFICIAL pronunciation of the fictional word “Cimmeria,” it’s a moot point. Oh, and, yes, the word “Cimmeria” consists of FOUR (4) syllables. That’s self-evident.
Howard loved history, if you're a student of history too, looking at a map of Hyboria will net you some interesting gems. You'll be able to make out the Asian, European and African Continents. Cimmeria and Kush were real kingdoms in history. The and the inspirations of various kingdoms and lands were taken from history as well.
The title picture looks like Conan's got a blunt in his mouth! But that can't right because Rizlas weren't invented then - unless it's papyrus, which would be possible I suppose.
Source for that? I've always reasoned it this way: One pronounces *Sumer* (the actual ancient civilization) as _soo mare._ One "m". Sumeria/ Sumerian = _soo mareeea_ / soo mareeean Two "m"s in "simmer", "summer". Cimmeria: _sim me reea_ / _sim me reean_
The man was powerfully built, supple as a panther / His sandals made no more sound than the pads of a panther / He glided down the marble steps like a slinking panther / he halted suddenly, crouched like a suspicious panther / and he ran as a suspicious panther runs. He should have just turned Conan into a big furry pussy cat and have done with it.
Lmao, sharpen yourself a stick and bare your naked chest to a Panther, then call it a "pussy cat". Howard lived in a time when people still knew how terrifying nature was
Co-naan is not his name though. You americans can't pronounce anything can you? To hear your lot mangle "jaguar" into jag-wire is hilarious. I'll wait for a narrator that can speak as well as read.
Man the covers on the comic books, back in my day, were incredible. Conan is one of my favorites characters
I think the art is Frank Frazzetta.
@@CrudUgly I believe this is by the late Earl Norem.

Thank you for posting this. The narration & audio quality is very clear, which is a challenge with Conan audio recordings, I find.
there is a good collection on audible for just one credit

great reading, pic and of course story.
Punt, Zimbabwe and Kush all ancient black kingdoms in Africa.
Hell yeah, I wish we got more movies or TV shows about the great African kingdoms, hell even Egypt or Carthage would be nice
