Looks pretty decent, a thorough and slick review. Impressed with the later systems performance and the screen looks nice and sharp. Would be nice for portable Super Monkey Ball on the GC!
Since all these android handhelds and single board computers are famous for their kinks/software bugs at launch, will you post a new video about the Odin 2 in the future?
I'm not sure at this point what it would be about. Maybe when some emulators are updated or new ones come out. Plus, I won't show any footage from cemu or any Switch emulators for what are probably pretty obvious reasons these days.
I have to turn off v-sync which helps with the input delay, which was noticeable to me I game on a low latency OLED, but this is the portable emulator beast. I chose it over the steam deck for the smaller size and better battery life I don't want everyone in a five-mile radius to know what I'm playing and it's so much easier to carry around.
Yeah, I turned off vsync and tweaked everything I could to try and mitigate the issues a bit. I still feel like a lot of games on a lot of systems are fine, its really Switch and 3DS that are the worst with it IMO. I still think its a great system and overall from a design standpoint (and battery life standpoint) I prefer it to the Steam Deck also, not bashing the deck but I don't like how big and bulky it is and not a fan of the input layouts on it. Still awesome that you can play so many Steam games on the go, though. To be clear, I don't own one, just have some friends and acquaintances with them and I've played it. I'd be interested in getting the next version if Valve updates the design to make it more comfortable and less unwieldy.
No idea at this point. I'm sure if the competition puts out anything better at the same price or close to it performance-wise but cheaper, they'll keep on making new devices.
I don't do game streaming or remote play on mine so I can't comment on those. The latency on GameCube isn't bad at all. In most cases the average person probably wouldn't even notice it, but it's still there to a degree. With the PS2 games I've tried it seems the delay is a little worse than GameCube, but still something you can adjust to. The worst case scenarios for input delay are the Switch and 3DS. Well, and a few older systems, but you can clean those up pretty well with either runahead or preemptive frames in retroarch in most cases.
Thanks! In a lot of stuff it isn't too bad. On Switch and 3DS in particular in can be pretty rough though. You can mitigate it SLIGHTLY with a few settings, but you'll never get rid of it. Older systems and arcade games are fine in retroarch with runahead for thr most part. I also for example, tested Hollow Knight on a certain system not to be named, and the delay was as rough as it was in Bloodstained. It's also not AS bad in every game for those systems, some are worse than others.
The input delay alone grants the device 6 out of 10 for me. It will be a long, long time before Saturn, PS2, GC/Wii, Switch and so on will be properly emulated in handheld form, without the horrendous input delay issues. Apart from that, great in-depth and impartial review, I appreciate the technicalities!
Keep in mind on a lot of systems you can deal with them in retroarch and just use runahead. The worst offenders for input delay are the Switch and 3DS, but its noticable in others, too, just less severe.
Great review. Thank a bunch. Subbed.
Thanks and welcome!
Waiting for the Odyn 3 with Oled screen...or not
Oled is nice but usually to cut cost they use prev gen and that tend to have burn-in
Odin 4
@@javierdanorio1513 Any news about it?

Loved the mention of Sly Cooper when you were discussing PS2 emulation... One of my favourite game series!💖

It is indeed nice for Monkey Ball on GC! And lots of other stuff!

Would love to know if they plan on making an odin 3 with an OLED screen

Great video. How is the input delay/latency in PS2, GC and ps5 remote play streaming? Those would be my main use cases.

Good review! I just received my Odin2 Pro in the mail and am actively setting it up. Hopefully the input lag isn't something I notice too much.

Yes, systems such as the PS1 and below it shouldn't be an issue. But past that, the experience can and usually is severely compromised.
rg405m on gamecube and earlier i have noticed no input lag
each game I tried on gc, ps2,... have no problem so far, no lag, lot of fun. And I installed hd textures for some.
I have the Pro version.
How run ps2 and gamecube games??....the first ayn odin, run those games terrible!!
... I showed these in the video... also talked about them in a bunch of comments here.
