2 things I really appreciate about this review: 1. The fun you have with the Bits. I love it when critics stretch their creative muscles! 2. the discussion at the end. Considering not just the device itself but what it means for the landscape and the future is, I think, the kind of Big Picture Thinking we need to see more of in this space. Somehow this is at once the goofiest and most thoughtful review of the Odin 2 I've seen.
Thanks buddy. Appreciate you taking the time to say so!
Agreed 💯
Can colors be calibrated like any smartphone with that Snapdragon chipset?
I love the news about the price, specs and potential market impact.
Refreshing to see value being used as the proper weapon it can be.
I had an Odin Pro and I played a lot of retro emulation, then I sold it and bought a Steam Deck. Too big, uncomfortable, nothing like portable and poor battery life and I wasn't playing any game because of it. Now I sold my Steam Deck and bought the Odin 2 Pro.
Back to retrogaming like it always should be.
How's Ape Escape?
I was thinking of getting a steam deck but it seems too damn big. The switch is too damn small. This might be the right size and performance. I want PS2 games.
Actually if u have a desktop u can run steam on Odin
Exactly,I don't really consider the Steam Deck portable due to the size. For me, anything between the Vita & Switch Lite is the best size.
OLED is better than this and a better battery. Nice try though fanboy 😊
It’s everything we’ve been waiting for! I preordered. I’ve almost purchased some previous pretty good devices like this, so I’m glad I waited.

I start a new job on Monday. I'm getting one with my second check. I'm still rocking my rg 350 (among my Sony and Nintendo handhelds), so this will be a nice upgrade for me. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Thanks for the awesome review Mr. Dweeb.

Hi TD! That was a blast. Thanks for the fun video 😍 I really like it when you come up with characters to talk to, and your art style is great. You and I disagree on the beauty of blue. But hey, more blue shirts for me and orange ones for you 😊.
I’ve seen many of you videos but this one is absolute most entertaining i have seen yet. Odin made a good co host for this video 😂🤣
This amazing console was my favorite to pick for myself. BUT my wallet said: "Nope". And because I appreciate all my devices I own, I always keep them clean, carrying it in a case and of course never without a screen protector. I spent hours to pick a cheaper alternative so I could buy two cool retro handhelds for me and my gf. So I choose the Retroid Pocket 3 Plus and I am more than happy with it. Currently I am setting it up with my dear TechDweeb❤️. You helped me a lot since I am new to this awesome and sometimes overwhelming world of retro handhelds. At this point I just want to thank you helping me out with my set ups and for making me laugh, your dedication, generocity like doing charity and for producing truly high quality videos. I am sure many subs feel the same when I say: You could be my brother in another dimension I sadly don't live in. Cheers❤️
Seriously good production effort here.

Thanks buddy! Nice to know I'm doing something right if a non-gamer is tuning in for my nonsense :P
Kinda wondering if this would be the perfect streaming device for at home. Those sticks are ideal.
It's cheap because it doesn't have a 100MP camera, it can't use a sim card, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor is cheapish to buy in large quantities like $60 a unit cheap from what I deep dived per 1000 units. ❤
Its cheap cuz they cant make you sign a contract for 2 years and you go like ehh 90 a month isnt too bad and everyone has one dont wanna be a weirdo
and it doesn't have an oled screen :(
@@gordanbabic8028bro I really don't see how it's that bad tho and OLED screen would be nice but the screen they been using is nice

Because of this device, I have not enough sleep for 4 days. Not only this device has surprise me, also Yuzu and Yuzu Android also to be honest. Also, your review is so good and relaxing.
You can play Yuzu now. Just buy a Switch or Switch Lite. Then maybe you can sleep better while you cuddle it in bed.
Excellent video , very informative and surprisingly entertaining.
Mr Dweeb? How does the base model of this stack up against the RP4 Pro in terms of price/performance?
How you manage to get high quality reviews out so quick with funny bits and animation included is amazing, really adds a point of difference to Russ at Retro Game Corps!
I like them both, no competition
Really shitty to call out another channel specifically like that.
This looks really good reminds me of my old PSP from back in the day. This is definitely gonna be my other go to Android device whenever. I get the chance of getting also kudos for playing Rayman 2 for a brief moment in the video.
Thanks for this video!
I'd love to see one on the upscaling and high fps this can achieve when connected to a monitor. 📺🎮🎮
The odin 1 was great on TV via display port ( just the usbc port was very bad ) so it was better with micro hdmi cable but only up to 1080 and 60hz or fps
Retroid pocket 4 or new anbernic should come with at least SD 865
100%
Thanks for the informative (and funny) review, TD!
I have been playing with my Odin 2 all day today and noticed that I have to run brightness pretty high to make the screen look good. I am talking about 80 percent and higher indoors. Have you noticed that?
Yeah I did notice that, but I'm that way with most of my devices TBH
Random out of context comment:
At 4:31 - If you guys like this Rayman, play the dreamcast version. It's the best version, has the best graphics and its extremely easy to emulate and upscale and looks amazing. The PS1 version is extremely stripped down because the PS1 GPU couldn't handle the most part of all the graphical effects that this game offers on newer (at the time) systems. N64 is also an option, but its heavy to emulate and still doesn't look as good. I love this game and tried it everywhere, dreamcast is the best.
100%. I usually play the Dreamcast version, this is my first time trying the PS1 version and I only tried it out of curiosity. Such a good game. I first played this on the Nintendo DS and then I replayed the Dreamcast version pretty recently.
dweeb , you are so creative , i simply love it ☺☺☺
Hello buddy, what launcher do you use for the odin 2 ?

Hi Professor... TechDweeb...🧐🤓🤔👌
Thanks for Mythical Lesson of the: Odin...
I meant the awesome content for the AYN Odin 2...
This should come stock with the Odin light anmbi light app that makes the sticks follow what the edges of the screen are showing. I love it
You had me at Snap Dragon 8 Gen2!
Will Odin 2 work good for Wii emulation? Also should I use Dolphin MMRJ or Dolphin Official?
Yes it'll work great for Wii, and I personally prefer MMJR and that's what I'd be using.
Hi man Ive heard the imput lag on the Odin is high compared to others android handhelds like the anbernics and retroids consoles. It's the only one concern I have with this device. Is the latency really noticeable? I'm thinking to get this for christmas :)
I noticed zero latency. It felt perfect to me.
@@TechDweeb thanks for the reply🙂. I know you have tried many consoles so your opinion is very important to me👍
I’ve found over the past few days mine has had slight noticeable input lag- In certain circumstances where you need really exact timing and input. But Ayn has spoken about fixing it- so I’m the meantime it can already do so much else bellow that threshold. I’m satisfied
Thanks for the review Craig!
Highly entertaining Dweeb and you got another Norse god to interview! 10/10 😁👍
I think that as higher powered ARM chips like this and others for laptops are introduced then more attention will be given to Switch emulation on Android.
This thing is right down my ally. I'll wait till the price comes down some. This is actually better than the switch. I'm surprised it's dockable. That's a double +.
Especially the Deck OLED. Valve understated the apparent benefits of the OLED model.
While I appreciate what the Steam Deck can do, it isn’t practical to me at all. You have to be tethered to an outlet whenever you want to use it and it’s way too big to be portable. Valve even states that the lcd version of the deck will only yield 2-8 hours of gameplay. So realistically it’s probably worse(I don’t know because I don’t own one). I like that you mentioned that the Odin 2 can do anywhere from 3-17 hours, which is probably realistic, but I’ve seen others say it can last anywhere between 4-25 hours, including Ayn themselves(which is why your figure is probably more realistic).
I love the idea of the steam deck, but if it has to stay at home and only be used in that setting, then I might as well just use a gaming pc. Even the Odin is large and not as portable as something like the retroid pocket devices, but it is still portable in a bag and it has ridiculously good battery life. That’s why the Odin 2 gets my vote as the better handheld.
Does the form factor come with the lights? I bet you’d love a transparent orange build.
Seriously, This android handheld should be the standard if you want the best. It does 1080p, the hardware could do Switch, 60fps, 12gb ram and enough space. There is no need upgrade until ps3 emulator and Windows emulator is fine tune perfect. Im going to buy this next week.
Would you prefer this over the Steam Deck, currently saving up for this or the new model? Slowly saving that is, by the time I have the cash I am sure something new will be out, tech is getting much too quick, all is obsolete as soon as you make a purchase, kind of frustrating.
I would choose the Deck, personally
That is all I needed to hear, I trust your judgement. I am a pretty big fan of Steam as it is, I have held off for a while because I knew something like the oled model would be around the corner.@@TechDweeb
Just watching this and had to give a look to the camera like Jim when the odin starts talking
this video convinced me to buy this. looks sick
The funniest odin2 review, thanks!!! 💯👍😊
You're the best, TechDweeb!
I'm thinking about getting one of these for: Wii, Gamecube, PS2, Switch, 3DS, Android gaming and PS5 streaming. Would the midtier suffice well or be safe and get max version?
I’m going for the mid tier version due to quicker availability, does everything you wanted with no issues and not too much more than the base model with $10 off currently.
The base should be fine but for streaming I want just a bit more power to keep things solid.
The max is a bit too much for me and it doesn’t boost things as much as from the base to mid.
I’d say if you got the money to spare go for the mid tier Odin 2.
Have you got a video guide about your NOVA front end? If not be cool to see one as most youtubers rave about Daijisho which is great but its good to see what else is out there.
Nova isn't a front end, it's a launcher (replaces the stock android launcher). It's nothing fancy, I just like it as an android launcher because it's simple and consistent across devices. The actual gaming frontend I use is Dig.
Thanks, this looks like a great device, but I did not get a Steam Deck 1, so I will get a Steam Deck 2 instead. It's worth the extra to get access to the insanely large Steam Catalog in my humble opinion
Hi, I have a doubt, I don't know if the transparent texture are slippery or more slippery that the opaque version. Can you help me plese? Thanks!
I don't know but usually transparent plastic is more grippy than opaque.
@@TechDweebah cool
I have a deck and ordered a odin 2 pro because to me dealing with Linux is painful. Odin2 can have access to steams vast library at home via streaming through your pc. It can essentially act as a steam deck in that way.
I was close to getting an Odin 2 (I have an Odin Lite).. it’s performance is amazing and I’m glad it exists but I’m glad I held out because the Steam Deck OLED got announced. Don’t get me wrong I love the Odin/Odin 2 but the only thing holding me back about the SD was the screen and now that it’s better and bigger I have all the reasons to buy one.
Yes I have the first version of steam deck. Its fab but the 2nd version is better battery screen and efficiency. I am considering getting the second version but the SD version one is good enough to wait for the second version to come out. I decided on steam deck instead of the original ODIN however I kinda wish I went ODIN and second version of SD now... ho hum. I have hours and hours of gaming fun either way.
Do you think that is better the Steam Deck OLED or the Odin 2 for emulation? I have a PS5 and I’ll probably play the AAA there
@@nicolau31I don't think it is for price to performance. I have the 512 LCD version. But my son has been saving his pocket money and I am adding to it for xmass for the oled 512 version for him. But do I wish I could have both? Well yes, yes I do. I play SD on couch when my misses is watching TV. I don't understand why but she feels more connected to me...
@@nicolau31 Depends. If you want something smaller and more travel friendly with a higher resolution screen then the Odin 2 is awesome.. but you have to remember you’re limited to emulating what is available for Android which means basically up to PS2/GameCube and Switch since there are no PS3/Xbox 360 emulators for Android (at least none worth using). Though you can always use the Remote Play App to play your PS5 on the Odin 2.
The Steam Deck is larger but has more power and is able to play more games and AAA games natively. With the OLED screen now being an option I think this kind of makes it a tie for which handheld has the better screen though the Odin 2 still has a higher resolution screen.
You really can’t go wrong with either choice. They’re both powerful handhelds but the Odin 2 is def limited more (in my opinion) because it’s Android based.. and I think you’ll be able to do more with the Steam Deck.
What it comes down to for me is portability. I don’t travel much and just want something to have around my house. So with the release of the OLED Steam Deck is basically a no brainer.
I have both the Odin 2 and the SD OLED. They’re both perfect for their intended use cases
To people in the comments who said "JuSt gEt a SteAm DeCk WitH tHat PrIce!", clearly never owned or held a steam deck before in their life.
I as a Steam Deck owner, are still on the hunt to find a smaller and lighter but powerful handheld device for my emulation needs. And I preordered the Odin 2 despite already owning a steam deck.
It seems like a very divisive topic. It's almost like people don't WANT there to be other options for people with different preferences for size, screen, battery, performance, compatibility, etc.
Just get a Switch at that price :D
It can emulate pretty much any earlier Nintendo stuff
@@MegaKiri11 I've had several Switches before... not very cost effective...🤑🤑🤑
You really need a 10-15% smaller device that's infinitely less capable for $21 more than a refurbished Steam Deck? Go for it.
@@davidfaustino4476infinitely less capable? hold a steam deck in your hands. my hands don’t even reach the thumb sticks without trying to stretch. it’s uncomfortable and is not for everyone
Completely fair points about the price vs the Steam Deck, and Android's shortcomings. But for me, I grew up playing PS1, PS2 and Gamecube, and ever since I saw the first janky, homemade "portable ps2" or that crazy 3D-render someone did of a portable gamecube, that's been my target. For me the Deck and Odin serve different purposes. The Odin will be my retro gaming device, where I can easily play every game I have even a scrap of nostalgia for, and the Deck will just be for portable PC gaming. The size and perfection of the Odin in terms of build quality, ergonomics, and most importantly battery life make it a better fit IMO for a dedicated retro gaming handheld. And I'm not just saying that so the Allfather will smile upon me!
Great video. This has to be the best handheld for the price of all time.
The fact that odin 1 had a transparent model but they failed to highly notate that it lacked the RGB that the opaque version featured was pretty frustrating. I'm still bitter.
Does it come with a preloaded game card?
That is the same color I want. 😁

Hah, I thought I was the only person to do a reboxing video, XD! I did one of the Steam Deck OLED about a month ago too. I think I like yours better, though! ^_^
WAY easier than remembering to film the unboxing ;)
@@TechDweeb Indeed! I actually put my OLED Deck... in an LCD DECK box! O_O But Shh... I don't think anyone noticed! XD 💚
Is there a similar device with a larger screen ?
Not really. Not with this level of performance.
The thing about steam deck is, that it is still not being sold globally. Also, an android device with that long a battery is a far better option, really hopes ps3 and xbox emulation development gains momentum on android.
And the ODIN 2 is somehow easier to get than a Steam Deck? K 👍
Yeah it's baffling to me that steam hasn't figured out global distribution yet. If Amber Nick can do it why the heck can't Steam 😜

The price may have been tempting...
...if it wasn't for the 20% import duty where I live.
The Steam Deck is gigantic and has terrible battery life, I don't think they really comparable. But yeah, if you don't mind the size of the Odin or played plugged in, then the Deck is the better device.
I'm impressed this is cool

whats diffence between this and odin pro both android no?
so its only android handheld nothing else?
Cool! - how is its latency?
Odin Pro had 100-140 ms latency.
Around 90 ms for me, (around average for handhelds) I counted the frames in smw2.
@@Boredboozer Great - thanks! - well done. 90 ms is much better than the first Odin and below the typical D-pad latency on Android (but higher than on Linux handhelds, I think).
@@DavidFilskov it’s mostly because of the constant updates form the ayn team. they have been out working themselves honestly
@@Boredboozer So good to hear they're doing better on the new version! - Perhaps they'll update / fix the first Odin too some day.

Is Techdweeb a Ryu main?! I swear i love this channel more and more for SO many weird reasons.
Would you see a world owning an Odin 2 AND Steam Deck? I have the Odin 2 on order for a more portable device
Definitely. I think there is a perfect trifecta of handhelds. A gaming PC handheld like the steam deck, a high-ish and Android handheld that you can play some higher-end emulation with that has amazing battery life, and some things super small and portable like a miu Mini to bring with you when you are out on the town. I would personally probably recommend the rp3+ over the Odin 2 if you also have a steam deck for the highest end stuff but this Odin 2 is super nice so I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting the hotness.
@@TechDweeb I had the rp3+ and a steam deck but I found the rp3+ just that bit underpowered for some emulation. It was very cool to have it so small though
@@TechDweeb maybe the miiu mini is a good fit for the small device
Thanks. You continue to balance the information and the entertainment. Cool that you've created this dweeb character, and the Odin back-and-forth had me chuckling a couple times. You and Retro Game Corp. are my go-to's for this emulator content. Odin 2 is the one to get (no compromises), and I'm about to -- comparing price to performance of this to Samsung's elite S9 tablets or Z Fold...makes even the pro model seem like a deal.
SteamDeck is huge and for Switch and other AAA titles it last for 2 hours at max but Odin 2 is light and portable and last for Switch 5 hours. That is something we must consider as big advantage for Odin 2. 😊

I was thinking about getting one of these for awhile, but that steam deck oled announcement ensures i will not be going ayn
Moorechip is definitely nailing what the android emulation market is asking for
Holy Grail!
Here is Australia the steamdeck is twice as much as the Odin 2, i think ima get the Odin 2 and wait for the steamdeck 2 which will without a doubt be a complete beast. Or a company to bring out something better because i dont like the Legion Go or ROG Ally.
Does anybody know how to transfer save slate data from Odin 1 to Odin 2? AETHER, FULLROID, REDREAM, ETC
Your save game files will be stored either in the same folder as the roms, or else in specific folders for the emulators. You can find them by searching your device for the name of your game, and you'll find any file with that name (one of them will be the save file). You need to copy those files to the exact same place on your new device. Hope this helps!
You missed one of the biggest selling points for this device: in-home streaming.
The Odin 2 is a monster of an emulation device, but where it’s hardware stops the software begins. Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, and GeForce Now - entire console libraries of games streaming to one single device. It’s the Switch handheld experience for every modern gaming device in your house. Not to mention PlayStation and Xbox both have massive backwards compatability lists through the original consoles in each line!
This device exists in the perfect crossroads of the power of hardware and the power of software.
For $300 you can own a single device that can play nearly every game ever made near to flawlessly.
Price point is pretty steep though. A bit more compared to the odin max and you could have the Steam deck oled
They’re not comparable. Steam Deck plays PC games and Odin 2 is smaller and has longer battery life
