exceptional work as always ! this run really had a superhero feeling to it ! each gadget, trick, item and character truly unique ! loving the challenge runs as always
that mission with the damnable chyrssalid... absolutely horrific and the tragedy that followed inspired me to do a bit of writing
The electricity crackled from broken cables and advent blades, his creators had said he was bullet proof and so their foes had proven it true. plasma blade cleaving into Elerium cores as Shen's final & greatest gift began to give up its last gasps. the hulking machine that had been the teams stalwart bastion through their hardestr battles , the Emissary of XCOM in even their darkest hours, now staring listlessly up at a greying sky, power draining from those powerful red eyes. Firebrand pulling away with their hold empty , mission failed, but with a final message in Tow
the Barracks was quiet as the soldiers, whether they need be resting or the infirmary arrived to see it. Arnie's final message, recorded from the XCOM agent's BIT, simple and machine like but neither the great Shen or his daughter had programmed such a response. "Goodbye Friends, Finish This For Me" the crackling and warping robot voice had managed before truly commemorating his name sake. a weak Thumbs up raised before the power drained completely and Arnie fell silent for good
The last thing the BIT recorded had been Advent scattering in search of more operatives as the Hunter Strode into view , whistling to his underlings for a job well done.
victory over the Ethereal Menace was in their grasp, a day or two of planning and XCOM could liberate the world. But Central didn't begin to organize, Shen did not begin the gear preparations , even Tygan did not urge for the usage of their new gate
XCOM had lost one of its own and Vengeance was Owed. not one step forward while the Assassin still drew breath
He had expected a battle when XCOM came for him as they did his 'siblings' and he felt his victory had been assured. it was not a hunt waiting for him, it wasn't a battle - it was an Execution
he had little time to fight, to run, his mortality suddenly laid woefully apparent infront of him. however The Reaper had come to drag his soul away screaming in Retribution
and For his Crimes ?
He Was Terminated
I love this post, mate.
holy shit, literal chills bro
Manbthis man this was cold and bone chilling
To Arnie the One who will forever live on
And now I’m crying
SPARKs were Raymond's last gift to Lily. SPARKs being recognized as Sgt. for the GTS was his last gift to the Commander.
Arnie: "Targets Terminated."
Central: "Which one?"
Arnie: "Yes."
The Commander dutifully had his avatar stand by without fighting in 9 timelines to respect the sanctity of the challenge run, but he had to participate in this one to personally avenge Arnie.
"We can only build one Mimic beacon".
This is truly the greatest challenge you've ever faced.
No, it is not.
"We can't use mimic beacons".
This is the greatest challenge
I have no idea how I've bear xcom 2 long war without mimic beacons
You know this run will be a masterpiece when you see Leeson as the grenadier
_"Endgame is the most ambitious crossover in history."_
Drifter: _"Hold my mimic beacons."_
All of em except for 1
Billy is the realest soldier out there. He wasn't even asked to join a suicide mission, he joins it anyways, is left for dead in a quick EVAC scheme, and still makes it out without taking damage or complaining ONCE. Say what you want about him but he is DEDICATED
When Billy was needed most, he came. He saw his brothers in need, new the risks of the trial to come, and offered himself as a sacrifice instead. The return to base wasn’t an awkward silence, it was a stunned one at the raw audacity of our friend… he was so selfless we don’t even know if it wasn’t Bob
*"He's not the soldier we deserve, but the one we need"*
He is a brave soldier
He Denyed the attackers
He went on a sucide Mission
He convinced his Fellow friends to join XCOM
he was left behind and still made it out
He is nothing
But a CHAD
I like the idea billy, Thornton, Paul Greene and Arnie were pals. So When Arnie went down I like to think Paul and the guys wanted vengeance
The ultimate intern
I see we've officially entered "How bad can i make this run for myself" territory. I'm here for it.
Just like ChristopherOdd with his metric fuckton of mods :D
I was going to say the same about Over English Man with his modded run
"I served my duty almost as much as my colonel friends without a promotion, yet right before the last fight of the war, the Commander promotes me and right away called it a mistake and left me out of the final mission... What the hell did I do wrong?"
- Paul Green probably
Drifter: Can I beat the game with only one of everything?
Me, seeing that the video is only about an hour and 19 minutes long: this run will be heaven or hell, there is no in between.
Also me: does that mean we’ll finally see Drifter use the Commander’s Avatar on the final mission?
: O
I didn’t consider that!
After carrying XCOM almost singlehandedly, Arnie's destruction sparked a flame into everybody else. It was no longer about saving the Earth, it was about avenging everyone's beloved Terminator.
1:15:30
I have a guess that after the first shot the Avatar immediately got into "combat stance" and gained the advantage from cover it didn't have initially, so the hit chance got below 100%.
I thought the same. This is my best guess.
My guess is, the game calculates hitchances on a basic LV and shows that , and than when you use it it adds the bonus "doge"stats of the enemy's to it, would explain why the chances displaied are allways higher than they are in reality (wild guess is that on normal the stats would be actually correct and on easy the displaied chance is lower than in reality) also we know that the hit/doge chance changed based on how many of your squad are alive so I'm pretty certain they do the actual math after the display)
@@asddasdasdasdadsa Dodge gives a chance to reduce damage, not hit chance. And generally, all hit bonuses are included in the initial calculation. The hit chance shown is the actual hit chance, and I really don't doubt it. You don't *actually* miss 80+% shots *that* often. It's just the one time you do is much more noticeable than the 4 where you don't.
@@antongrigoryev6381 XCOM's chances to hit are all multiplied by 1.2 (a 50% shot that you see ingame is really a 50 * 1.2 = 60 shot behind the scenes) rookie difficulty
If a soldier gets hit by an enemy, they get a stacking global -10 aim reduction on that turn, as long as you have fewer than five squad members. So, each landed shot makes it less likely that they will land another.
If one of your soldiers is killed (leaving you with less than four), or if you bring fewer than four units into a mission, you will see a +15 aim bonus for any shot over 50% and a flat -10 enemy aim penalty for each dead/missing unit below four.
Only thing I was wrong is where the aren't active it isn't on normal it's on legendary.
They do add the moddifers in the shot not while you taking aim.
@@asddasdasdasdadsa
The main problem here is that the percentage shown is for the first attack only, so after your first shot in a multi attack you lose concealment, which causes the enemy to spot you, which causes them to lose the “gains no benefit from cover” malus that all inactive enemies have.
So it went from a 104% chance to a 84% chance. This is not very obvious because of how multishot attacks work, but is at least consistent and reasonable.
In theory if the game lets you take -14-0% shot you could hit with one provided it was a multishot attack and the soldier had holosight, as the second attack would bump up beyond 0%.
What about doing a run where you only get the "bad" abilities? I'm interested in seeing some of then perform
Syken4games did this recently. Look for his choose to loose campaign
syken4games is doing a "choose to lose" run, which is essentialy doing what you described
its pretty cool
@@Alelip1000 What was the best worst ability?
@@SioxGreyWolf i would go with blast padding ? the troops are taking a big beating into mid-late game, and going back to the avenger hurt but with no casualties is keeping the run alive
granted, the vests and conditioning PCSs are also helping with that
43:02 With the Gotcha Again mod, you can see line of sight with allies! It's very hard to tell, but the yellow diamond next to an ally's HP means the moving unit has line of sight with that ally!
It took me 2 full campaigns to realize this :/
Yup, you can see it just after the timestamp you linked showing the diamond for ally line of sight to the left of the HP bar (where an enemy target line of sight icon would be). Useful for future runs!
1:01:30 i think what might have caused the will loss in the SPARK was when the warlock used the mind scorch ability on your team during that one retaliation mission. I think that ability lowers will and it seemed to bounce to the spark, so id go with that being the cause of 37/40 will :p
I agree, that is the most likely explanation.
Average people: Infinity War is the biggest crossover ever!
Me an intellectual: are you sure about that?
"We can only build one mimic beacon."
Me, someone who never uses them anyway:
Yeah, but watch some of the other SCCs, Drifter once brought THREE to a mission.
@@Subject_Keter It happen me a lot. 3 campaings and i only use the Meme Beacon once or twice...... and thats who i brought 2 every mission at some point. That's how much well i did, even in a mission of lost where 3 pods activate at the same time because of the lost, and i had to use one of them for the 1st time. I think it's about judgement of engage, plus i never does a yellow move unless it's early game, but i always had my reapers stationed for those missions all the time.
The only way I can think of the game missing a 100% shot is based on whether the game rounds percentages (so it's actually a 99.6% or more shot and it just doesn't say) or each shot is calculated seperately and the first shot triggers some defensive buff for the Avatar (which I don't think they have any of those). I mean, outside of a glitch obviously.
At least according to the UI it wasn't "just" 100% but 106%. So maybe it can't properly handle values that go above a certain threshhold?
@@inominat5940 wrapped back around to 4% on the one that missed. I just say XCOM being XCOM
The game's hit calculation is basically glitched on top of lying and of/c there's a few different mods that fix it.
What i think what happens is the game start calculating how high the chance is that you hit the target and than add the devensive bonuses (difficulty stats) on top so you have a 100% hit hance just the enemy doges.
I've missed several 100% shots both melee and ranged attacks makes my blood boil every time.
If you can manage it, i'd really love it if you can somehow find a way to mod in an advent classes playthrough.
Like having a stun lancer, trooper, priest, etc instead of regular troopers. Since you've grown a fondness for a couple of them over this campaign.
10:52 - The reason Assassin couldn't make it back in 1 turn is because Bending Reed (her 'Momentum' action) grants a considerable movement bonus for her retreats. Something like 50% more if I recall correctly.
So she can choose whatever grid square she wants for full cover and flanking position, but unless that square is close enough to start with. Then she can retreat out of range of herself?
@@glenmcgillivray4707 Only in the specific case of retreating after leaving a unit open to an extraction/capture, since as far as I know neither is a Move-And-Attack type of action.
Honestly August despite his small appearance is great, he should appear in a later run. I am also glad to see our Ayy boys back on the team and that Drifter got his redemption.
It’s almost like a balanced squad is how the game was meant to be played! Great video Drifter! Love all the content like this.
Damn new video already, thank you. I'm literally going to buy a new computer tomorrow because i want to play XCOM 2 so bad because of your videos.
Drifter: *Is only able to build one mimic beacon*
Me: "May God have mercy upon your soul, because they won't."
"that's XCom baby"
At least your trooper didn't accidentally shoot a teammate, panic, and then shoot the rest of her team.
Here’s a mission for you, but it’s really hard so honest man isn’t necessary (though save scum is forbidden). This is more of a see if you can do it challenge: go through the game killing as few enemies as possible. You’re not responsible for resistance allies but you have to complete the game killing only those necessary to complete story objectives. You’re free to play on easier difficulties for this one
Drifter, this is a challenge from us on the Council. Due to your performance within the Psionics run, the Council has decided to give you a challenge run which is both a boon and a curse. The Challenge is simple. Defeat Every Chosen, Every Alien Ruler, and Complete the game, but you are granted access to your choice of 6 modded classes. You may not use Base Game Classes as a result. We are calling this the Experimentals Run. Good Luck, Commander.
We will be watching...
You know. Paul Green one shotting the gatekeeper after Arnie’s death makes sense in a way. They both came from the SPARK dimension.
That guy screaming has me rolling every time. Comedic timing at its finest!
my guess to 41:00 is that either the shot of arnie destroyed the window behind the Lost... wich then enabeld line of sight.
OR
With the death of the Lost the game realised that the pod with the andromedon had line of sight to the lost... and actually activatitet to the lost... and not to your pod ^^
Great vids by the way really love em
Ohh that's also an idea i thought the sectoid used maybe an ability on one of the lost and got triggered from that, but your explanation makes a lot more Sense
Between lesson hitting shots, Drifter turning into a good sharpshooter, the rookie not being useless once again, and the endgame going smoothly, this run was truly amazing. Rip Arni
Ok break is over, time for a Han Solo only run, let's go
Believe it or not there is actually a modded class for that. You can only field it solo, but it actually ages over the course of the campaign so he/she'll eventually die
So it’s Han, Solo?
@@adamsteele23 This community newer fails to amuse me each time
These playthroughs are the highlight of my day, great editing and narration, way better than the 1000 hr playlists for 1 challenge run you normally get for xcom
watching you makes me go back to trophy hunting enemy within and enemy unknown, anyone here wanna help me do the enemy unknown multiplayer trophy?
Can anyone help a fellow Commander out??
I'm down to help you. I'll get back to you when I have some free time since I'm about to go out on a run.
@@chibitinathelordofdeath.7127 thank you v much, my psn is Hijikata-T7, just add me, as for time is anytimr you want
Depends where you live... if it's Europe, yes. Else, it may be harder, but I'll try nonetheless
@@niveknaylik531 thank you, anytime is perfectly fine, just inform me earlier
Feels almost a bit like a victory lap after all the individual runs,
With a well earned beatdown on the aliens to cap it off
that zoom out shot of that soldier screaming makes me laugh each time.
I've watched every run you made and every available archived-run and I must say that I enjoy multi class run more than solo class. New tacticts and synergies that you use are better than doing same thing, that class was designed for(sneaking like reaper), all over again in solo class runs.
Anyway, great video as always and keep making XCOM content!
You are getting more entertaining and funnier in such a wonderful way, thanks for posting these.
I would definitely watch you play some other games too.
I would've loved to watch Paul Green handle an entire Field Commander mission by himself.
41:45 I think I figured out what happend. It looks like the shot from Arnie broke the window behind the lost, the window was one of those weird ones that blocks vision and that allowed Cat a tiny cone of vision to spot the Andromedan. A bizarre series of events that's for sure
Drifter at the end was like " 'sup fuckers, look at the clock because right now, it's HIGH NOON"
Excellent job on this video! I may have to clip the 100% miss to keep for the ultimate "That's XCOM baby!" evidence.
3:50 "Mom said it's my turn on the grenade"
Nice - Been looking forward to your dulcet tones and XCOM questions!!
Whatever you do just keep making this stuff. I cant stop watching, i even rewatched some of the others
Can already tell this will be a great video as usual, Drifter! Love the photobooth montage in the beginning!
My day is always majorly improved whenever I see you post a new video. I am here for your content and these challenge runs can’t stop getting better and better!
Yaaaaaay! I ran out of videos to watch and started on this one on your second channel. Thanks for all your hard work putting this together for us! Have lots of fun
Nice video drifter, you're challenge videos showed off xcom 2 enough that It convinced me to grab the game. Keep goin'.
I have really enjoyed watching these XCOM runs. They actually convinced me to give the game another try again after leaving it sitting in my Steam library for at least a year or two. I think I didn't like it originally bucause I wasn't very good at it and even on normal difficulty, I'd have soldiers regularly die and that just wasn't fun to me. Watching all these runs has given me a new appreciation for the game and how well crafted it is (even with the regular 'That's XCOM baby' moments) and I actually finished my first campaign recently, thanks to many of the tips you give and quirks you've pointed out. Keep up the great content. Looking forward to see how you tackle a rookies only run.
41:45 My guess at what happened there was that Arnie's shot had passed by where the pod was, which made them do the dodging animation, which the game took to mean as then being active
I don't think that happens, i never saw a unit i didn't attack react to one attack, also they don't give a flying shit if you hit them with aoe outsite of the vision range, i personally think the sectoid used an ability on the lost (who didn't spawn from the explosion, just got triggered by it) or something like that
Really loved this run a lot ! Great job Drifter ! And wow Leeson didnt screw up at all !
8:24 some real warhammer 40k levels of discrimination right there
1:15:23 that’s Xcom baby…
Also nightmare fuel
The 100% Chance fail is a bug that only happens in PC. I’m not sure why exactly, but it is a rounding error I believe.
So you didn’t fail a 100% but a 99.6 or something like that.
I remember seeing a very old clip of a ranger missing a 100% shotgun shot on a Stunlancer and the reaction was priceless.
Also, this run gave me an idea for a challenge that you may find interesting Drifter
It’s called “OVERCOMMITTED”
The idea is similar to this one.
You can have 1 soldier of each class (Rookie,Psy op, blah blah blah) but instead of just one you have 2 rangers,2 specialist, etc.
They can only go 1 path, so A ranger with blade master can only pick the right path, and a ranger with phantom only the left.
Sounds kinda meh right? Well the Blademaster ranger can only use the blade and the phantom can only use the shotgun…
Snipers can only use the sniper and Sniper cowboys only the pistol
Grenadiers can either only use explosives and the shredder grenadier can only use the cannon.
Specialist are tricky but I thought that hackers can only attack with Gremlin and overwatch while medics can only heal and shoot (exception being the ever vigilant overwatch)
Sparks can only use heavy weapons and overwatch while tanking or only shoot and punch while hopefully not dying.
As for utility items it would once again be one of each (although with this restriction I don’t think that would even be a big deal)
However unlimited base weapons would be allowed (not that you could use them)
Idk How CHALLENGING this would be but I’m definitely gonna try it out next campaign.
As for the faction heroes? Idk, they are meant to be free-flowing so it’s kinda difficult to say what they can and can’t use.
I would say maybe make it so they HAVE to take the entire path of the first skill? So you take remote start on a reaper and you now HAVE to take everything on the Saboteur tree.
Maybe you just shouldn’t be allowed to use them at all but IDK.
It’s just an idea to delay the suffering of ROOKIE ONLY if that’s ever happening.
Started playing XCOM 2 like a month ago.
Found out your channel shortly after, and your series is pretty cool.
Next challenge - 1 Engineer and 1 Scientist.
If not else, you'll at least break your record for longest ingame-time campaign
shouldve had commander avatar kill the last avatar for the ultimate highlander moment
I am so sorry you failed the run by using more than one colonel.
Jokes aside, i've really enjoyed binging on the videos. Billy deserves a spot in the permanent roster.
15:00 The one who got me into XCOM in the first place, Admiral Bahroo, would call this “the magic pixel”.
This was really cool, but here's two other ideas you might be interested in.
No upgrades run, you can use any class/item, but can't buy any upgrades for your weapons/armor/GTS.
No abilities run, basically the opposite of the last one, you can rank up your soliders but you can't buy/use any abilities that they gain.
Here it is! You told me a few months ago you had this planned and to be patient, I'm thrilled to see it! Let's goooooo
This feels like an Avengers Hero Team Up movie, but it's X-Com 2 instead. I LOVE IT! I think you will absolutely tear this run a new one! Like taking of the training weights after using them for a long time and being surprised at your own strength and speed.
I really admire your patience and tenacity, man. Me, this game got bummed out with "thats-xcom-baby" moments before I even finished the first run and I never got around to do more. Been enjoying yours.
hello again! this one was good stuff, looks like leeson finaly got glasses this time around. cant wait for the rookies only run
Rewatching this again and i just realized how good experimental gernades and ammo projects would be in this after making a bug point to use them in my current campaign
This video helped me through one of my runs. I never knew all you needed in a supplies retrieveal mission was one crate!!
I feel the story for this challenge run is what happens when the commander and some of his closes friends are the only one willing to fight against advent and the aliens and they picked up a mec along the way this is such an interesting run great video and congrats on winning the campaign also glad to see our advent buddies are with us on this campaign
I'm addicted to this series, now that I've caught up I've been catching the livestreams. I don't know if my heart and patience can take another 99% miss of my own.
I came here just to see the despair of only being able to use a single mimic beacon
What did I learn from this video: reapers are killing machines
Soon there's gonna be (really) modded challenges like "what if there's a chosen every single tactical operation"
1:18:00 Huh. Odd. I finished a Commander/Ironman campaign this morning and I still saw the global statistics... in all their negative-integer-supplies-gathered glory. Busted either way, so I guess it makes no difference. Anyway, good run! That Hunter stronghold fight was glorious.
I don't have time to watch the video yet, but I can't wait to watch it because THIS is a badass challenge name.
This is THE best xcom video i ever watched
also peition for the next Advent rogue to be named
Billy bobson
Worth it to see Drifter with the biggest comeback in XCOM history.
Hey man, you don't have to keep doing challenge runs. I'll still watch your vids. Don't burn yourself out :)
you should start using the landmines for your grenaders. They do extra damage compared to plasma grenades, have 2 more range, and they don't make the pod scatter when deployed. So you can set one landmine, then a grenade itself, and watch a legendary pod evaporate. and seeing as most maps have 3-4 pods, well... thats 2-3 pods you just vaporize with just a single soldier.
Billy is the intern that gets volunteered for everything and the management is prepared to savk him if something goes wrong.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for the support!
“We can only make one mimic beacon” and here’s the challenge
Looking at the 100% miss, if I had to guess the first shot made the pod go on alert which made the avatar take advantage of cover they weren't before. Hence why when the second shot misses and breaks that cover, a yellow shield comes up indicating the unit has no cover bonus.
Good luck Commander!
Oh man, everyone loves a crossover episode :p
Ya know, I think this series continues into the REAL fun territory when you start trying out modded classes. THAT'S where I want to see this go. There's a ton of modded classes for Xcom 2, and many of them are super cool, and some are... less so. But seeing you take those classes and really show them in this sort of challenge run would be awesome.
LEESON IS THE GRENADIER LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO
Never disappointed with the Xcom 2 content, this was quite the change of pace from the past struggles but dear god I have never seen a 100% shot miss before, that's kinda terryfying .-.
That quit normal, on higher difficulty shouldn't happen on normal, and I'm pretty sure on Easy you can't miss a 95% hit if not even lower
Agreed, extra uses of a single item does not violate having more than 1 item equipped.
Aye. I think the lost lure and the battle scanner come with two uses anyway
Honestly love these videos
I think I can provide *some* insight on 100% shot misses, due to the sheer number of mods I play with on a semi-regular basis and as a result it happening in my favor enough that I can genuinely rely on it; that 100% does NOT factor in some defensive benefits like untouchable; if something is guaranteed to just not be hit, not even a grenade can hit them.
Another great challenge. 👍👍👍👍
I'm very surprised there's no "YoU uSeD mOrE tHaN 1 tYpE oF rEsIsTaNcE oRdEr PeR fAcTiOn?!"
Nice video :>
When you killed the lost you also destroyed some of the wall behind him. This open line of sight to the second pod
My usual support comment. Good work as always
Crisis on infinite solo playthroughs is probably my favorite challenge run so far. These are a delight.
Your mention of modular reaper weapons, personally I prefer laser sight to scope considering soul harvest plus laser sight, plus usually flanking, often adds up to a very frequent crit chance in the nineties or so.
*misses that shot*
"I cant trust anything this game tells me again"
You trusted it to begin with? Lol
What happens when you evac a friendly advent? Do they join your team?
Arnie is the GOAT. He will be back.
Nah, you just never see them again haha.
This feel like home run after all those videos. Great material! I don't know if those exists (I've played xcom2 on realise and then watch your channel xd) but i wish you could find some great mod that increase difficulty into oblivion with tons of new stuffs that would left you not prepare and play it blindly. I just wish I could see it xD
The Assassin is coming for the Poorlock's spot as Most Irritating Chosen. He's got to step up his early appearances if he wants to defend his title.
