To be honest there was no reason for you being hesitant entering the mosque. Even during prayers. I spent seven years studying semitic lanquages and Islam and all ways found it interesting to visit the mosques around the world to listen to the different muezzins( and for that matter I like to visit churches, synagogues etc as well.. and that being a totally non believer..lol) And never have I been turned away from a visit regardless the wheres and whens! My kids enjoyed these visits as well.. just dress appropriately, and you’ll be ok! Else, this city seems huge! A very well maintained one too. I believe you can visit the gardens of the palace? It looked wonderful. Thumbs up for this modern city! 🤗
Thanks, yes, I have visited many mosques in countries like Malaysia where it is no problem, I am just hesitant to do it during prayer times although it would probably be okay. I was wearing shorts, though longer than the knee, also a reason for maybe not going in. I do like visiting mosques actually, very peaceful places.
it ok you can enter the mosque as long you can cover your knee and for the woman just cover hair and wear proper dress ,make sure not to sexy ... you can sit and watch what the do... mosque usually full of people for several time like friday ,all man must comes to mosque ,but the other time ..they pray 5 times a day and usually hv many activities like Magrib Tazkirah... please comes and take your time to learn little bit about islam... then after you go back ..i m sure you will get some feeling ..... your journey not you planning ,but its because god (Allah) have planned for you... what im typing right now he was watching and he watching you read this message..
Terengganu in constitutive state in Malaysia a very nice, amazing, beautiful & clean city. All types building, & mosque are nicely constructed painted, most important thing it is pollution free City. “The Ruling for Non-muslim Tourists Entering Mosques and Main Praying Area Inside the Mosque”. The conference decided that non-muslims are permitted to enter mosques and main praying area of the mosque, but they must have permission from the mosque’s management and they must take care of their conduct and behave in a way that will not tarnish the sanctity of the mosque. However, any form of praying or worshipping by non-muslims inside a mosque is forbidden. This is the view that’s been implemented by muslim societies around the world including Malaysia. Malaysia’s mosques are famous tourist’s attraction for their beauty and architectural design. Nonetheless, manners inside mosques must be observed and the mosque’s management team must be vigilant, making sure there’s no misdemeanours and undesirable behaviour in mosques or in mosques’ grounds.

The palace was the old palace and being the sysmbol of Terengganu or Royal Terengganu . So the palace use as place for official ceremony from the Sultan. That what i know a little.
Tahun Baharu Hijrah is like Happy New Year in the Islamic calendar. Hijrah means "Migration" A mark of the New Year commemorate the migration of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from Mecca to Madinah. So our Islamic calendar starts from then on .

Nonetheless, manners inside mosques must be observed and the mosque’s management team must be vigilant, making sure there’s no misdemeanours and undesirable behaviour in mosques or in mosques’ grounds.
sure thing

Just as i said in other comment,
Dress code also important at mosque, like long pants( or sarung pelekat down to heel ), unless kids is ok but under adult supervision. I think you already know this from your long years of experience travelling in muslim countries 👍🏻
Also just a friendly useful tip while you in malaysia, if at the lobby of any mosque in malaysia (non friday noon or big prayer like aidilfitri aidiladha or 1st week of ramadhan) usually you can sit down there to rest , if doors open and empty no one pray solat there, everyday from 8am to 9pm , you can sit down and relax for a while (not for hours of course unless you ask for permission 1st from the imam or mosque staffs there- rare case but do happen sometimes for homeless person or travellers that stuck-lost /in distress/ natural disaster ) to take a breather from tiring walks or for shades under the hot searing sun, or wash your face /hands for refreshing from the water taps. Because we muslim are mostly helpful to help people in needs, islam as a religion thought us that... But modest dress code still important just to respect the holy place and not to distract muslim worshippers do their peaceful praying there .

The park near the Maziah Palace previously was a playing field where children plays football in the evening and people just relax on the grass field enjoying the evening breeze...now it looks awful with all manner of structure built on it...
