Father, modesty applies to men too. Open shirts, inappropriate messages on shirts, tight pants, jeans hang halfway down the buttocks, pants showing the buttock dive when sitting, short shorts, tattoos, and tiny swimming attire showing everything are also a problem. Let us not forget modesty applies to all.

For sure. As a bridesmaid a few years ago, the Bride and myself spent forever looking for modest dresses. Thankfully we eventually found them. We had many compliments on how elegant our clothes were. A couple of young women in the catering staff wanted to know where they could purchase dresses of a similar cut to mine. Alot of woman, including myself find it very difficult to find these clothes on sale here in the UK. Most of the clothes designers are gay men, sadly these male designers don't see it any other way.

In the past, brides dressed modestly. This was for two reasons.
      1. Out of respect for the church and the the fact that it's God's house, a place of reverence.
      2. She was "saving the show" for her husband and not for every other guy at the wedding.
Other than having a white dress, there isn't much difference between a bride and a woman heading out to go carousing at the club with the girls.

Very true. My daughter got married in February 2023 and it was mission impossible to buy dress that will be simple, plain fabric, and would be suitable for Catholic wedding ceremony. If the back was full, the front was too low, if the front was right height, the arms were uncovered, if the arms were covered the back was fully open or the slit too high. We ended alternating the dress to ensure the modesty.

It has always been that the bride wears a long sleeved jacket or bolero over her dress and she removes it for the reception the same as she removes her train so she can dance.

At many of the beaches now, you see women with a few postage stamp size pieces of fabric and some dental floss and they call it a bathing suit. Brides are now wearing attire at their wedding that really should only be worn in the privacy of their honeymoon suite. In their quest to feel special, women have lost their dignity by the way they dress and dignity is what makes a woman special. A very confused world.

Do you honestly think Christ cares what we wear to church? Good grief! It's what's inside that counts, wearing a burqa to church won't get you to heaven!

People who get free passes on airlines are required to dress modestly. I wish they would request this of EVERY rider! People come in with tiny tank tops, “hot pants,” snap-on skin-tight workout clothes. Yuck! Or else they’re in pajamas complete with bunny slippers. Guys with pants slung under their butts so that everyone knows their brand of underwear. We look like morons. For esthetic reasons if nothing else, please address the dress, people.

Praise God! A priest who so boldly speaks the truth we desperately need to hear! Modesty is intentional. We need to obey the Word of God and realize how everything we think, say, and do comes together in the way we live our daily lives, choosing either to grow in the virtues presented by the Holy Spirit, or to defy obedience to God. Self control is guided by the Holy Spirit if we seek His guidance. Thank you Father Mike for your assertiveness. We need to hear more homilies like this❤🙏✝️🙏

But we shouldn't be trying to please Mama Mary & definitely not trying to pray to her. It's JESUS who is the mediator between us & God the Father. Btw, we aren't supposed to be calling any man Father. 😕

In our Catholic Church , ushers stand to greet the people and when they are immodestly dressed, they are handed jackets, even pants , sweaters to wear and asked politely to leave if they don’t comply! It has worked. At the EWTN SHRINES/ chapels there are signs- no short dresses, no low cut etc. Once again clothing is offered to ‘cover up.’ I’m horrified at the immodesty of wedding gowns- showing off their figures and who cares about the priest or Jesus? Moms !!!! Educate your daughters.

You are right about the mums needing to educate and be an EXAMPLE to their daughters. I learnt to dress modestly from my mum. She always emphasised the importance of dressing modestly not just for ourselves but also out of respect to the Priest who has taken the vow of celibacy. They are men at the end of the day and we should help our priests live out their vows, not make it more challenging for them. So many mums complain that their daughters are not modest but they themselves haven’t done a proper job of installing the values.

Thank you Fr Mike! You are only the second priest I’ve heard speak on modesty in my adult life! I lived in Louisville KY for about 8 years, I moved there in 2001. Sometimes we would go to the night mass at 7:00 and people would attend mass dressed the way they did for for their day of family time or whatever! Not modestly to say the least, unfortunately! I thought, how could anyone focus on the word, without prayer to keep them focused?, It truly was unbelievable! Then one Sunday, the priest didn’t even wait until his homily to address the issue of the lack of modesty! He spoke of how wrong it was, spoke of females going to communion with cleavage showing, short shorts, dresses that were too short, as you spoke on, showing too much skin & clothes fitting too close to the body that simply cause distractions from why we attend mass! Great of you to address this! I thoroughly enjoy your sermons Fr. Mike! God has Blessed you & continues to!🙏🏽
