Its funny how this gets a 9.7 because of a " few bugs". When IGN posted about GTA 5 review. They gave it a 10, they didn't mention that there are 10 times more glitches in GTA than in Red Dead.
Ign never was a reliable source. They are mainstream reviewers, meaning they give higher ratings to big companies so they can earn extra money for promoting the product. They gave gta v a perfect score despite its flaws because it was the most popular game of 2013. Red dead redemption is not as a big name as gta v unfortunately So they didn't give it a perfect score. I actually like red dead redemption better than gta v

It's just because of all the hype surrounding GTA 5, and also the fact that they were so quick to do a review on it that they probably didn't even find half the bugs! Seriously, I live in England so we're ahead of time from America (where IGN is from), and when I got up on the morning of 17th September IGN had ALREADY posted a review of the game! Oh and MrGwuin There is far more bugs in GTA 5 than RDR, I know there are a few mission-stopping bugs in RDR that prevent 100% completion (but they're very rare and you have to be unlucky to get them) but I assure you there is just as many, if not more mission-stopping bugs in GTA 5 which prevent you from getting 100% completion, and they're a lot more common in GTA 5 than RDR.
Whoever says that it's GTA with horses is stupid... I know it's my opinion but for me it's much better than any GTA or other game.. Everything is nicely done: background music, wilderness, environment, story, characters, the physics engine known as "euphoria" adds even more to it! 1000000000/10
Rockstar is my most fav game creator because they have linked rdr1 up with rdr2 and gta because in gta franklins house you can find a book that says JM on it and that’s jack Marston, rockstar games is awesome
Narvikboy There are plenty of great games in the same realm as RDR each year. Not that it matters, a well crafted indie game for example doesn't get much more praise than bigger titles like rdr. Unless the developing conditions were awful like apparently Metro last light.

I've just started it for the very first time yesterday. I've just got passed the Medical Chicane where I had to shoot a guys hat out of the air & rastle him to the ground like a Muryan! Fock Yeeahhh! lol
I am playing through this again and have to say its one of the best stories in all of gaming. If any game had the most potential for a movie, Red Dead Redemption is the one. The graphics are also beyond their time considering its a xbox 360 game. I want a sequel to this more than any other game out there. I didn't think riding horses in the desert could be fun, but if Rockstar makes it, that's a whole different story.
I've heard rumors that red dead redemption will be remastered for next gen and a sequel is in the works also for next gen, but it's a rumor that I heard so it could be false

Crash Clank It's the same mechanics, but it isn't the same character. Still, I knew this game was amazing when I could hear an small city collapsing back down for the night as I played poker, and heard the nearby train roll into the station as I attained a flush. To me, it's the little things that make it special :)
Im getting an xbox 360 and it comes with red dead, i just recently went over to my friends and played it and now im overly happy my xbox comes with red dead. I didnt even do the missions i was so content shooting people stealing wagons racing the train, putting people infront of the train, accidently running my horse off a cliff breaking a wagon and alot more lol!

When you " doubt someone" all you ever get is you got proof detective? Pretty much the three options you get each time are just weird. I remember pressing doubt and my character said something just hilariously confrontational.

As a massive GTA fan I can't even tell you how disappointed I was with GTA IV, it wasn't a BAD game by any means but it was just really nothing special. I think they focused too much on 'next level graphics', the city is linear and get's very boring and repetitive. I LOVED GTA V because it provides the playable with likeable characters and a great environment/landscape and not just a boring city. And no, I didn't even finish GTA IV it was that boring, sorry if this upsets you lol ;)

Arhum Ahmad story was 10 times better too, gta v's was way too short, and only really kept up with 1 character.. was also so disappointed when i first got it and there was only 1 city.. RDR's map still feels bigger/better..
This is definitely the best western game. Gun is second. I always loved this game because it reminds me of my favorite westerns like the good the bad and the ugly, once upon a time in the west, the searchers, unforgiven, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid, Rio bravo, etc.

Max Payne 3 for me was dragged out and too long. Also I didn't like the Brazilian setting. I thought Max Payne 1 & 2 (by Remedy) were easily better games. The grimy/dark & atmospheric setting for them 2 suited them more I think. Just my opinion though.
ChiefPredz I would agree to an extent and say the cutscenes were dragged out and far too long. Over 3 hours which is the equivalent of two films. And I agree with what you said about the first two games. Max Payne 1 remains my favorite. Remedy did well. Very well
i just cant get over how much i love this game, i played it like 4 times (which is too much for me because i really dont like replaying games) but this one had something special , Rockstar really nailed it with this game , from the setting to the music to the awesome open world to the phenomenal story and characters , they really set the high way high with this one , cant wait for the third installment.
I'm not a graphics freak but this would be amazing as a remastered game for Xbox One and PS4. Imagine the "Grand Theft Auto V" level graphics that would beautifully compliment this world.

Drew Goretzka They won't. I'm just gonna throw that out right now. Judging by how immensely disappointing GTA V's story was, I don't think they'll top it off. They will also tone done the skill needed to be good at the game like they have with every new release. By this I mean multiplayer.. the gap between average and pro on RDR is insane. Average just hide behind walls, but pro get instant headshots, instant reactions, etc. and the game did not limit what you could do. GTA V does greatly, which is why I dislike the multiplayer on that game- too casual to be considered competitive.

One of my favourite moments in this incredible game is when Compass starts to play as you realise you get to ride back to your family. Such a great moment.
Best western games in my opinion would be 1) red dead redemption: everything about this game was perfect for me it made you believe that you were in the Wild West. 2) Gun amazing game pretty much the older brother of RDR.(even though it was developed by activision) 3) red dead revolver: this was the first western game I played on ps2 and I fell in love with it! 4) call of Juarez: the first one they made really surprised me I had low expectations for this game and it impressed me on so many levels. But I can't say anything good about the ones that followed this one.
This is the best open world game I've played. I was completely immersed with every fucking second. I loved the dialogue, the roaming, the gang fights, even going to bed to save my game. It's just so incredibly polished. Not saying GTA isn't a fantastic series, but jesus christ, I want an RDR 2 more than I'd like to see GTA go any further than 5.
I'm happy to see a 9.7 on this game but I still think this game was MILES better than the whole GTA franchise which was rated 10 on the latest GTA V... Red Dead Redemption was much more than GTA V could ever have been and its sad that it got a 10 and this got a 9.7. I would've given GTA V a 9 or an 8.5 to be honest. The story was not so great. However RDR was just fucking amazing on every aspect... just amazing... It even makes me sad that I no longer have a last gen console to play it one more time. But here's hoping for a sequel or prequel or just whatever just as long as it continues the Red Dead franchise.
There is one big issue I had with this game, and that was the fact that there was so much downtime between activities as you traveled from location to location. Sometimes repeatedly. Going back now after having played Horzion, Zelda: BOTW and The Witcher 3, the game starts to show its cracks a lot more.
I am. Don't have anything to play on Ps4 right now so I dig up my xbox360 and now I'm playing this masterpiece again, doing all the side missions and challenges that I haven't finished and paying more attention to this amazing world and I'm still learning some new things about it wich is pretty amazing considering I've had the game ever since the Day 1.

Favorite R* games- -RDR -GTA SA -GTA4 -Max Payne 3 GTAV just didn't feel like a gta to me. The missions were linear -unlike previous gtas where you could execute the mission how you wanted like the mission 'late checkout' in gta 4) and the characters weren't relatable and I didn't sympathize with them at all. Trevor was just cringe worthy "HEY LOOK AT ME IM CRAZYYY1111!!!!" Michael was a fake little bitch and franklins story had so much wasted potential. Instead he gets a free house and a dog and he's irrelevant from there on out. The map had no buildings to enter, a shitty small forest with a highway going through it, and nothing to do on mt chilliad. The mechanics weren't that great either. The cover system was pointless since your head will still pop out, the driving was shit, you can't crouch, abysmal AI, and just bland peds.
Came out in 2010 yet imo is still the best looking game on the Xbox 360. If I was asked which last-gen game looks like it was running off next-gen hardware I'd say Red Dead Redemption. Even over GTA V.
Started another play through after about 2 years of not playing it. It's still amazing and looks great even though it's over 5 years old. One of the best games I've ever played and really hope Rockstar makes another one.
Is there any way to capture the "wanted fugitives"without a lasso, alive? I guess one has to do the quest from Bonnie to unlock the lasso... if one wants to earn extra dough by capturing he fugitives alive. Also, I heard some people mention about how their targets die once they utilize the lasso to capture them. Is this a glitch/issue that is rampant? Or does this only happen occasionally (maybe because the targets health was already low)?

GTA is overrated. First Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire, then GTA.
I'd put Bully and The Warriors over L.A. Noire.
L.A. Noire was a stellar game. Game of the year in my opinion. I have never felt so much emotion toward a game, like red dead and noire did.

Red dead, Gta, Bully, Warriors, Midnight club and then La Noire. Thats how it should be ranked.
If they reveal a 2015-2016 sequel to this game during Gamescom or PAX this year I will die of happiness.

Not in my opinion - GTA5's characters were worse, it's story was short and dull and the multiplayer is boring. Such a disappointment compared to 4.

As a massive GTA fan I can't even tell you how disappointed I was with GTA IV, it wasn't a BAD game by any means but it was just really nothing special. I think they focused too much on 'next level graphics', the city is linear and get's very boring and repetitive. I LOVED GTA V because it provides the playable with likeable characters and a great environment/landscape and not just a boring city. And no, I didn't even finish GTA IV it was that boring, sorry if this upsets you lol ;)
rtwilson No haha. At first I didn't care about the story anyways but once you play you sort of get more into it. The best part of the game is the heist for me

Same. I found it a lot more fun to shoot at bandits while riding on horseback than shooting at a bunch of gang members from a car with an SMG
Arhum Ahmad story was 10 times better too, gta v's was way too short, and only really kept up with 1 character.. was also so disappointed when i first got it and there was only 1 city.. RDR's map still feels bigger/better..

REGAMETRO In the PS2 era, GTA was much better than Red Dead. After Redemption, GTA got buried. Red Dead is the king franchise right now.

This is definitely the best western game. Gun is second. I always loved this game because it reminds me of my favorite westerns like the good the bad and the ugly, once upon a time in the west, the searchers, unforgiven, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid, Rio bravo, etc.

In my opinion, RDR and Max Payne 3 are Rockstar's greatest achievements. Their two best games. The best of open world, and the best of linear.
Max Payne 3 for me was dragged out and too long. Also I didn't like the Brazilian setting. I thought Max Payne 1 & 2 (by Remedy) were easily better games.
The grimy/dark & atmospheric setting for them 2 suited them more I think. Just my opinion though.
ChiefPredz I would agree to an extent and say the cutscenes were dragged out and far too long. Over 3 hours which is the equivalent of two films. And I agree with what you said about the first two games. Max Payne 1 remains my favorite. Remedy did well. Very well

i just cant get over how much i love this game, i played it like 4 times (which is too much for me because i really dont like replaying games) but this one had something special , Rockstar really nailed it with this game , from the setting to the music to the awesome open world to the phenomenal story and characters , they really set the high way high with this one , cant wait for the third installment.

I'm not a graphics freak but this would be amazing as a remastered game for Xbox One and PS4. Imagine the "Grand Theft Auto V" level graphics that would beautifully compliment this world.

I kinda forgot how amazing the graphics were... Like some games from 2010-11 look pretty old after the new consoles but this one honestly holds up well
There's rumors of a RDR 2 in the making.. and that it's next-gen only. I hope it's true and if it's next-gen only that's the ONLY reason I'd be getting a next-gen console at this point

They won't. I'm just gonna throw that out right now. Judging by how immensely disappointing GTA V's story was, I don't think they'll top it off. They will also tone done the skill needed to be good at the game like they have with every new release. By this I mean multiplayer.. the gap between average and pro on RDR is insane. Average just hide behind walls, but pro get instant headshots, instant reactions, etc. and the game did not limit what you could do. GTA V does greatly, which is why I dislike the multiplayer on that game- too casual to be considered competitive.
Red Dead Redemption was #2. Red Dead Revolver came first. The next is #3 if Rockstar decide to.

One of my favourite moments in this incredible game is when Compass starts to play as you realise you get to ride back to your family. Such a great moment.
Best western games in my opinion would be 1) red dead redemption: everything about this game was perfect for me it made you believe that you were in the Wild West. 2) Gun amazing game pretty much the older brother of RDR.(even though it was developed by activision) 3) red dead revolver: this was the first western game I played on ps2 and I fell in love with it! 4) call of Juarez: the first one they made really surprised me I had low expectations for this game and it impressed me on so many levels. But I can't say anything good about the ones that followed this one.

This is the best open world game I've played. I was completely immersed with every fucking second. I loved the dialogue, the roaming, the gang fights, even going to bed to save my game. It's just so incredibly polished. Not saying GTA isn't a fantastic series, but jesus christ, I want an RDR 2 more than I'd like to see GTA go any further than 5.

I'm happy to see a 9.7 on this game but I still think this game was MILES better than the whole GTA franchise which was rated 10 on the latest GTA V...
Red Dead Redemption was much more than GTA V could ever have been and its sad that it got a 10 and this got a 9.7. I would've given GTA V a 9 or an 8.5 to be honest. The story was not so great.
However RDR was just fucking amazing on every aspect... just amazing... It even makes me sad that I no longer have a last gen console to play it one more time. But here's hoping for a sequel or prequel or just whatever just as long as it continues the Red Dead franchise.
There is one big issue I had with this game, and that was the fact that there was so much downtime between activities as you traveled from location to location. Sometimes repeatedly.
Going back now after having played Horzion, Zelda: BOTW and The Witcher 3, the game starts to show its cracks a lot more.

Don't have anything to play on Ps4 right now so I dig up my xbox360 and now I'm playing this masterpiece again, doing all the side missions and challenges that I haven't finished and paying more attention to this amazing world and I'm still learning some new things about it wich is pretty amazing considering I've had the game ever since the Day 1.

Its the ending. once you kill the FBI guy by the river, the credits start rolling. surely this would prove that this is the true ending and not a second ending. I mean I can understand why people didn't kill the FBI guy because its unkown by a lot of casual gamers. personally I would class it the ending. Not the second ending.

If there was that many bugs like you claim there is everybody here would have agreed with you, but if you scroll down the comments you can see it's not only me that thinks Red Dead Redemption should have been given a 10.
Kevin Reyes Well, that is because 1 they patched most of them after this review, and 2, when you visit a review this far after the game is released, many of the people looking up the review are bias towards the game.

GTAV just didn't feel like a gta to me. The missions were linear -unlike previous gtas where you could execute the mission how you wanted like the mission 'late checkout' in gta 4) and the characters weren't relatable and I didn't sympathize with them at all. Trevor was just cringe worthy "HEY LOOK AT ME IM CRAZYYY1111!!!!" Michael was a fake little bitch and franklins story had so much wasted potential. Instead he gets a free house and a dog and he's irrelevant from there on out. The map had no buildings to enter, a shitty small forest with a highway going through it, and nothing to do on mt chilliad. The mechanics weren't that great either. The cover system was pointless since your head will still pop out, the driving was shit, you can't crouch, abysmal AI, and just bland peds.

Came out in 2010 yet imo is still the best looking game on the Xbox 360. If I was asked which last-gen game looks like it was running off next-gen hardware I'd say Red Dead Redemption. Even over GTA V.

Is there any way to capture the "wanted fugitives"without a lasso, alive? I guess one has to do the quest from Bonnie to unlock the lasso... if one wants to earn extra dough by capturing he fugitives alive.
Also, I heard some people mention about how their targets die once they utilize the lasso to capture them. Is this a glitch/issue that is rampant? Or does this only happen occasionally (maybe because the targets health was already low)?
