I've always found it funny that in the code for WoW the Eastern Kingdoms has always been called Azeroth and that it was never changed, just like it was displayed on the vanilla opening cinematic - like EK is just a nickname.
@@TheDanNation I imagine it went something like this: Metzen: "This continent is called Azeroth and this one is Kalimdor". Employee #1: "What's the planet called?" Metzen: "Azeroth." Employee #1: "Then what's this continent called? *points to Azeroth*" Metzen: "Eastern Kingdoms, duh" _Seinfeld Theme_
@@Eyevou I'd want to try and argue there was hopefully a bit more complexity to the conversation, but you're a bit too right for me to do so. Perfection
These videos are a great contribution to understand the story of WoW. Its progression, flaws and peaks too! I seldom encounter anyone with knowledge and dedication to the story like this in any game :D
Great video! Found you yesterday while at work, you made the remainder of my shift much more enjoyable. Keep it up! This is also great to fall asleep too
One thing to mention is that Blizzard explained that the early humans de-volved from the Vrykul were called (or called themselves) the "Azotha" and that they named the world "Azeroth" after themselves, I believe this was in WotC somewhere.
The roleplay books are super hit or miss and, ill be honest, I think this is where they miss. Unfortunately, they're not even considered canon anymore, despite how stellar some of the work is in them. If any race has claim to naming anything, it'd be the trolls, elves, servants of the old gods, or possibly the titans in some of their recovered writings. Thank you for the comment and watching the channel!
@@TheDanNation I don't much think it's anybody's "right", but since the humans drew mostly on Elven culture and displaced trolls, it sorta makes sense that their language and word would become dominant over any troll language in this regard, and consequently their term for the world. Anyway, if this was an RPG thing, then you're obviously free to disregard it if you're focusing on the games, but since this first video at least focused on the term from a real-world perspective I think "Azotha" as at least some anecdotal interest. On another note, I do like the perspective taken here. Lore videos are fairly widespread, but serious looks into the actual evolution of how the writers understand and develop the lore is far less prevalent.
Great video Actually there is a place where Azeroth is mentioned back in Warcraft 3 (albeit its not in the campaign but in the multiplayer maps)... that being the Azeroth Grand Prix map (lol) which was added in 2005. In fact, I think some of w3 maps share their names with wow zones so i think that could add another layer of oddity in early 2000s warcraft lore Edit: there was actually another Azeroth mention in the w3's beta, as human knights had a "For Azeroth" line. i think it not ending up in the game confirms the theory that they went out of their way as to not mention azeroth in any way (it could also be cus it was tied to a removed ability)

That's hilarious, is it really? They really can't make up their minds on this, damn.
