You should have written that those day's cricket was a pure gentleman's game. Both Pataudi and Gavaskar were always honoured as legend cricketers and cleaned gentlemen as well, in contrary to today's cricketers' characters.
Both articulate for sure. A sign of excellence of Bombay schools ,and also MAK Pataudi got his education in UK. Both aristocratic- no, that’s not true. SMG is truly middle class but came up on his own. MAK Pataudi is a prince of Pataudi village -and has royal blood. His fame is not about the volume of runs he made, but the way he made them. He was a swashbuckler and this despite losing one eye. SMG was a legend of Test batsmanship but he could not really adopt to ODI s and replicate the same success. He scored 36 out of 60 overs match and stayed not out !. And this interview he steadfastly refuse to accept his slow batting - because those were early days . Not this money, not this much training , is available in those days . So it was not surprising. When india won the World Cup in 1983 - they scored 183 of 55 overs! Now a days it’s a par score in T20. Those days it was an amateur’s game , now it’s professionally run with cricketers are fitter , faster endure well and score 100 out of 40 balls !
The world also has to know that Sunil Gavaskar scored 36 runs in 60 overs in one world cup match India lost chasing. They purposely dropped his catch knowing he is a convicted panatii. He was only for his records not for winning matches......when the world will awake and realize this truth
Every cricketer has his failures. Gavaskar is no exception. That doesn't make him a selfish player. He saved a lot of games for India. And cricket has become faster with more fit players but T 20 is not considered cricket by many cricketing legends of yesteryears. The game has become very commercial. The bowling standard has come down considerably hence so many 4s and 6s.
Wise beyond his years. Sunny Bhai received his education in India, while Mansur Sir spent a few few formative years at Oxford, but Sunny's accent is sterling. Says a lot for the standard of education in Bombay in those days.
@@clinteastwood9195 Sir, all the Christian missionary schools and Convents laid the foundation of education in India.
