See the elegance with which Gavaskar played these shots. He changed his batting style from 1985 onwards and became an attacking batsman. During those times, it was not easy to drive the ball out of huge grounds like the Sydney and Melbourne Cricket Grounds are. But Sunny hit with ease, with power and elegance. In fact, since retiring from active playing in 1987, Gavaskar has donned multiple hats - Indian team coach, batting consultant, etc. It was he who helped Tendulkar improve his stance during his initial days! Gavaskar pointed out that when Sachin was ready to play, his bat came down from the third man side, whereas it should be straight and should come down directly from behind. He taught Sehwag also. Gavaskar was self-taught and improved all his shots through sheer practice and determination. God bless him.

Sunny was such a hated figure in Calcutta and Eden Gardens that after 1984 England tour of India, Sunny swore he would never play in Eden Gardens again and never did.

Sachin is around 36.
The only guys with a 50+ Avg in the 4th innings are Sunny, Boycott, Greenidge , Younis Khan, Graeme Smith and Ponting with Hayden a smidge below 50.
The rest of the big names of cricket don’t fare that well. Guys like Kallis and Sachin never got the respect because they are languishing at 40 and below.

Gavaskar got better playing ODIs only towards the end of his career, around 1985 when they went to Australia for the Benson & Hedges WCC.
It’s a format that eluded him for most of his career including his notorious start in ODIs at the 1975 World Cup when he was 36* after 60 overs.
His contemporaries did much better than him in the ODI format. Obviously Viv was the King of this format back then but you had guys like Greenidge and Haynes as well as Zaheer Abbas and Miandad who adapted to ODIs way faster than Sunny did.
The last 2 years of his career were his best years in ODIs .
And most of this footage is from the 1984-85 B&H Triangular series which India lost despite managing to win the WCC.
The West Indies repeatedly won the Tri Series every time they were one of the 3 teams and apart from WI, England won once in 87 or 88. Otherwise it’s Australia winning it provided WI is not one of the 3 teams.

The Little Master title was originally used for Hanif Mohammad from Pakistan. Although, Sunny was also a little master but the title belongs to Hanif originally.

@@sonyjohnson6966 Could also be fact, now couldn't it? Like Viv was called Master Blaster and Indians stole it and gave in to Tendulkar. It's like stealing Iron Mike's nickname and giving it to Vijender Singh. Now that just doesn't look right. Also, please admit plagiarism is in your blood.

That six of Chatfield was easily 110 metres. And that square leg four itself over the fielder was over 95 metres.
