I cannot believe how much it has changed back in the 90's it was so different when I was living in Scarborough.
How so?
@@thomascambrion4408 For one I don't think there were so many buildings back when I was there.
Thank you for showing me my favourite mall. When I am home, I spend a lot of my time in STC. I am remember in the early 80's there used to be a movie theatre inside on the first floor near the entrance to the subway, the balloons, the fountain, Sears, Bulk Barn and a pet store. The last time I was there was 2 yrs ago. Thank again.
Wow it has changed so much. I used to come here all the time with my buddy every weekend in the mid 80's and blow all of our allowance at the Arcade in the food court which was upstairs. It was called Wizard's Castle. Great memories!
After Warden Woods closed, Scarborough Town became my playground, my second home. Scarborough Town Center is just as old as I. The Scarborough RT, when first started out, it was only 2 cars a train and was painted white with the red line in the middle of it with the TTC Logo. and the loop was working to allow the trains to loop around, on the double tracks back then. Instead of the discontinued loop and single track. I remember Wizards Castle, Gap used to be Cineplex movie theatre. And those balloons! :) If I remember correctly, Walmart used to be Simpsons, and Sears (Now Defunct) was Eatons.Urban Planet used to be an 2 level Book Store. Manchu wok, and Mr. Greek used to be on the top floor. Mr. Greek used to be right beside Wizzards Castle on the left, and KFC was on the right. I guess they took out the petstore from the food court. LoL! They took out the water fountain that was with the center elevator! :)
@@SuperHonshu Your comment just invoked a huge rush of memories! I remember the pet store was downstairs. It was called PJ's pet store. I worked at the Captain Submarine from 1990 - 1991 and I used to go over to Wizards Castle and play games on my break which was so fun. I remember a place called Wally Parr too lol. It was to the right of the KFC. There was also a Baskin Robbins to the right of the Cineplex Odeon. Oh and Compucentre was just outside of the food court. Great memories!
Eaton's , Sears and The Bay were the original anchor stores. When Eaton's closed, Sears moved into their space, and Walmart moved in. That empty space you saw was where Sears was.
Worked at Eatons at Scarborough town as a kid
It's great to see the city, is returning back to normal!
I was leaving Scarborough TC when Covid was declared a pandemic. Will always remember this. Had to leave my trip to Toronto earlier than expected and take the next flight back to Australia when borders were closing.
Thanks for this tour brought back great memories for me!
If you make it out here again, keep walking and visit the centre in your last frame. The building is designed by the same architect Raymond Moriyama who built the Toronto Ref. Library, the Bata centre, the North York Library and Scarborough's Civic Centre. You stood right in front of it, the interior is worth seeing.
WOW!!! I don't even remember the last time I was out at Scarborough Town - have memories of back-to-school shopping there. It sounds like if I want to go visit, I had better do it before 2023.
You can see how incredibly diverse Canada is by watching this video..
Yes Toronto is extremely diverse it makes me mad when people try to call all whites systemically racist when everyone lives together and gets along pretty well there if you are from Scarborough you are from Scarborough that's your culture not your skin tone. City folk are a bit different than country folk culturally but still Canadians are pretty polite and tolerate people imo sometimes to a fault.
Spent a lot of my childhood there as I lived in that area :) Thanks!
me toooooo!
like 40 years ago lol
16:00 R.I.P to the Disney store 😔
The fact that this mall has both a Walmart and a cinema is a huge bonus, I love it :)
Lots of affordable options too, it’s a different vibe to e.g. Yorkdale.
Despite the food court had a renovation, it is rather small.
Plus it’s not the best layout for walking.
Still, like the video, thanks :)
That store was my childhood :( I used to go there everytime we went to stc and go in that little castle thing
Wonderful opening, smart move taking in the air-conditioning, get over the loss of your sunglasses, we know you have quality taste in clothes and tuxedos, great filming of the stores going up the escalator, love the ending of your masked face and those wonderful eyes of yours that speaks words. Yes, we all loved it!!
Thank you for bringing back old memories.
You have a great memory since 2002.
For sure will take the RT before it shuts down soon.
Miss the balloons that used to go up and down there...anyone remember those colorful giant balloons???
Yes!
They went out a few years ago when the mall went through major renovations!!
I first went to the mall in the '70s. I was a child model and did runway shows there for back-to-school fashion, etc. also in the '70s. In the '80s, I went to Wizard's Castle Arcade to play Space Invaders, Centipede, Galaga, pinball, etc. which was to the right as you were leaving the mall. Also to the right before you'd exited was a fish store, a hobby store & the mall's first Cineplex theatre. You're right, the original food court was on the top floor with bright orange (or red?!?) stools. Also right about there having been a Simpson's & the "hot air balloons" in front of The Bay by the penny pool. There was an Orange Cup (like Orange Julius) kiosk in the shape of a large orange. On the first floor, about where the H&M is by the Scarborough Walk of Fame, there used to be a Miracle Mart. Terry Fox went to the Scarborough Civic Centre seen at the end of your video. Out there at night, I'd hear coyotes howl. I'd seen three or four of them in the area, as well as rabbits, since I'd lived in one of the condos seen at the very end. Very nice, I enjoy all of your videos, thanks! 👍💯👏
Wizards Castle....by the entrance
Always a enjoyable experience. The mall looks so much better in my opinion.
And skating at the free outdoor rink sooo cool to see this brings me back in time !!!!
When I was in Toronto in 2017 I wanted to visit Scarborough but I didn't get a chance but lord's will am try make it back up there to visit Scarborough before this year end. May God bless the forgotten borough of Scarborough
Great video! Thanks for showing around Scarborough Town Centre. I used I live in Scarborough as well
my hangout as a teen in the mid 70's, remember the opening to much fanfare. like you johnny, now I cant stand shopping or malls. thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Thanks for the walk Johnny. This is my sister's favorite mall☺. I love the food at the food court.
Love this area with all the condos
This mall is not the same without the hot air balloons
Or the arcade that was part of the food court when it was in the upper level.
@@HeadlessChickenTO I remember that there also was a rainforest cafe.
Wow! The Scarborough RT wasn't there when I lived in Scarborough. Thanks Johnny.
By then I recall the food court being upstairs. Nice to see Rogers is still in business-quality photo shop.
Thanks for the stream brings back memories of my first job in STC worked at Pin Stripe 🕴️
I live 15 minutes from the STC. I rarely go there. I want to live. The Civic Centre is worth a visit. Raymond Moriyama designed it. Great architecture. The food court was upstairs at one time. It is now at the bottom and bigger and better.
Scarborough has a huge percentage of young people. Our pop is 660,000. Sunrise records is doing well and so do the sports stores.
Another interesting walk Johnny you mentioned about the food courts they used to be two one upstairs and a smaller one downstairs they closed the upstairs one put everything downstairs now that's why I may have seamed different to you
It looks very clean an fresh! And H&M Swedish company😃nice walk as usual! TC! 🖐
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO...Really amazing tour around Toronto.I hope someday I can go there. ,Supporting you from The Philippines!!!!👍👌👍👌✌
City still look beautiful since my last visit in 2019
went to Load Roberts PS and watched the RT built had to walk over it every morning on the little bridge between Kennedy and Eglington station !!!!! GOOD TIMES
The last time I've seen the Food Court on the Upper Level was on Sun, Jul 12, 2015. The first time I've seen the food court on the Lower Level was on Sun, Jul 22, 2018. & the Last time i've visited Scarborough Town Centre was on Sun, Jan 12, 2020!
Thank you for this great video of the shopping centre!
Amazing video!! Missing these warm summer days & the old Woolco store that used to be at where the Walmart is now! 🍁🕊👏 at stc
Great video. So large and beautiful mall. Thanks my friend
My LUCKIEST mall. Food court guy messed up my order and I got a free piece of chicken for it. Won a contest here. Even found a FREE pair of sunglasses here!!
Rip to the structures they just tore out at the cineplex. Was the last standing piece of early 2000s history we had here in Scarborough. :(
Ryan can you hold me? I need a hug real bad
MAN THIS PLACE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORTE HAUNTS AS A TEEN LOL USED TO BE THE THING TO DO..
hit the mall pick up some boys n hand out landline phone numbers ..anticipate the two week wait to get that call 👅
good times😁
I'll be seeing you soon. Toronto. Will be there in October sometime. Cheers Johnny 👍👍👍🇨🇦
Hi mate.🖐You definitely like trains, so do I.😉 The roof with glass panels is amazing. The same glass roofs and facades have Trafford Center Manchester UK...Lovely 👍♥️🍻
Hey Johnny, have you ever thought of being a DJ for a Jazz radio station? You have perfect voice for it.
Why does it have to be a jazz station lol?
@@robertsabharwal9787 Jazz is low key and cool, just like Johnny
@@EBikeMall jazz players from the 1930's were the first people to popularize marijuana .. I'm sure johnny can relate lol
I can't say that I have... I certainly don't have any jazz knowledge.
Thanks for the video.
It's one of my favorite mall, I love varieties of food, in the food court.
Walk of fame reminds me- Jim Carrey was born in Newmarket but spent some of his early years in Scarborough (Wikipedia)
17:20 yes the food court was upstairs. At least it was when I visited this mall back in 2014.
The truth is, I do not know why they want to close Line 3 if there is no alternative rail transport until 2030
I’m going to Scarborough tomorrow
Literally it looks like Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, similer buildings and trains stations
Video was ok some mis info but 7/10 . 6th largest mall in canada. And technically Scarborough is sub city in some cases a city because it take 600 thousand member to qualify to recognized as a city also Scarborough city hall is still held once a week to address local issues separate of city hall downtown toronto. 6.5 -7/10 . 👍🏿 Good job.
Dear Mr. Johnny Strides.... Hey, thanks for taking to the Scarborough Town Center on my Birthday, 08/09/67Dude.... 54 years, but not quite an old fart..... Johnny is Toronto's Vlogger.... Vancouver is still using some Mark I trains like Scarborough RT.
That was a smart move. Walk in the. A.C.
See you tonight if you do a walk. Thank You so much 👍☺
Years ago, I've always enjoyed shopping at the Scarborough Town Centre Mall, I found it to be quite nice. The new roof top over the food court reminds me of the Eaton Centre. I never ate at the old food court so I would not remember where it was located or was there even one there? The downfall of the mall is the parking as it's not that easy to entre and exit the parking area. Great Video, thank you Johnny!👍😀
ik its 2022 but the last time i went to stc was in 2011 and its sad too see it gone bc i m,oved to oshawa
My former hometown. This brough back a lot of the good old days 😪. All the nice stores closed or moved. I move from Scarborough 27 years ago. I came/visited 26 years ago. I am wondering if Rosie's restaurant is this on the side of this mall 🤔. You could enter it from the mall. Thanks for sharing 👍. I enjoyed this. 😉. Have a wonderful day. 😊
Long gone
Ugh my kids have been wanting me to take them there almost daily. We went maybe 4 days out of a week, for several weeks this summer so far. I feel I can almost walk through there blind folded. Mommy works in the bakery downstairs across from the McDs so they like visiting. I only like the Street Eats food truck venue thats across the street happening this summer.
May I ask, how is food in Toronto. Is it good? Are there many places to get food?
You will find the best take-out, take away food in Scarborough. Pakistani, Afghani, Indian, Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Greek, German, Hakka, and Scottish Fish and Chips (St.Andrews). Many, many more.
@@ritaschick6716 oh thankyou but I'm hearing people say that food in Canada is not so good. Why do you think they might say that?
@Andy B so is this a good thing?
@Andy B oh ok
@@ritaschick6716
St. Andrews...staple
I had the same reaction to seeing that Sunrise Records as you did LOL
Yeah, Sunrise is still around but I think they are few and far between now!
Who's even shopping there? lol
@@JohnnyStrides Yeah, kinda makes you wonder how the remaining stores are surviving!
Hey there. It's me again. Will you ever do a video of Eglinton Square? This is south of Eglinton East. It's a small mall. But it had some nice stores. I missed the nice shoes 👞stores and department stores. There was a Dominion supermarket at the East side of the mall. There was a Hudson Bay. Well. I don't know if it is still there. Scarborough was so nice back then. I missed the good old days. Oh. Warden Woods mall was demolished. That mall had a Eaton store.
Hi Eglinton Square has changed a lot over the years. Dominion supermarket doesn't exist but it's Metro. The Bay is still there. The food court looks different, it was upgraded. Baskin Robbins is still there! Some long standing stores are gone and have been replaced. The year closure due to covid have caused some stores to close. In the 80's it was a bustling mall I remember when I was a child.
@@canar7 . Thank you so much for your response. Yes. It was busting in the 80's . In t 70's too. Nothing last forever eh? I really missed the good old days. Thanks again. Much appreciated. Have yourself a great day. 👍Enjoy your weekend. Stay safe eh 🙏🙂
I'll look into this!
@@JohnnyStrides 😊😊👍
@@hyacinthgordon5295 Your welcome! I have to ask do you remember The Golden Mile which was across from Eglinton Square. The long strip mall (which was torn down) but it had the Woolworth's dept. store. Yes, I grew up near the area in the 70's and 80's. It was so exciting to go with my mother on a Saturday. Yes, I miss the old days.
I love your videos!! My daughter will travel to Toronto next year and your videos are helping us a lot!! 😀
Please, how can we go from Toronto to this mall? Which train is the easiest one? Thanks a lot!
Take the subway Line 2 eastbound to Kennedy. Go upstairs to transfer to Line 3 (Scarborough RT). Take the RT to Scarborough Centre.
Or you could take
the Yonge branch of the subway Line 1 northbound to York Mills (or the University branch of Line 1 northbound to Yorkdale), then go upstairs and take the GO Bus eastbound to Scarborough Centre.
@@OofusTwillip thanks a lot!! 😃
You really get around.
Great video! Are there usually any cinemas inside malls in canada?
Most major malls used to have them, now I'm not so sure but it's still pretty common.
I was at that mall today.
same
Can you do one at PTC-Pickering town centre or Oshawa centre at some point?
I'll try!
The first canadian mall that I visited .
Shopping STC now :)
CB4 RIOT ! Scar town center anyone remember ?
Do Square-One mall in Mississauga!!
HI! I enjoy your videos so much. May I ask is it safe to live in Scarborough with children, thanks for your time.
I don't see why not.
I live a 7 minute walk away.
Bonjour, donne moi un article scientifique qui parle du centre commercial de Scarborough
Funny how my phone says August 16th, but your posting and comments are 2 or 3 days ago.
23:45
Legend
God bless you
Typical Canadian planning, shutting down RT in '23 only for the subway to come in '30+, 7+ years of no transportation lmao. Also, I dont get the motive behind this either, seems like a waste of money? Also, yes it was a Sears shut down, seems like no store can survive in Canada :(. They have definitely modernized the place a bit. Also scarb isnt much of a suburb, its a pretty dense suburb for one, might as well call it urban especially with the traffic.
Scarborough's built environment (strip malls, towers in the park, stroads,, suburban style housing for a lack of a better word etc...) is far from urban IMO.
I have your sunglasses
HaHAHAHA
i only clicked here for the thumbnail pic. So Johnny must have learned how to lure in those views. Its all marketing.
lol
As an obese person this is my nightmare.there is no place to sit.
lose some weight
I looked so nice in the vid, but in real life it isn’t as clean as that in the vid
I come Canada Toronto very soon InshAllah pray for me
18:40
who else is banned from this mall 😭😭
Looks like a lot of impending bankruptcy to me, especially the Bay
Welcome to the new India or china.... yet to be determined.
Maybe the real Canada
Terrible people are walking around like zombie, they don't even know what they need just to buy something make their self fill better.
That is so sad what makes people happy this days shopping
Utterly lifeless city. Go to Montréal to see how it's done.
Not a city.
Montreal is great but IMO it is not at all on the same level in terms of having "life".
That mall sucks
СПАСИБО
It’s now a dead mall.
