    30 years ago i used to work in this Mall at the Fairweather Store . Now it's completely changed a lots and so am i a mother of 2 children . It brings back my Teenager memories .. 🥰 ✌🤞

      I remember Fairweather which was a good store to buy clothes at a reasonable price. I also remember Bretton which was more expensive but had wonderful clothes. I miss Friday evenings in the food court downstairs in the 80s and 90s. There were all sorts of people, young and old. Great memories!

    I used to work in the food court during the summer when I was a teenager along with a lot of other High school students. The pay was crap but we had a blast fooling around during down time. I miss those carefree days.

    In the '80s the roof-top terrace was a great place to ride your BMX. So many great memories up there.

      The only great thing I remember about that place was that wavy brick roof path and angled glass triangle roof, eventually security became a regular thing keeping us away.

    I used to live in Ottawa when this mall first opened but seeing this it has changed greatly.I haven't been to Ottawa since 1996 and I lived there from 1975-1988.Neat to see it again.

    I hung out in the Rideau Center many weekends in the late 80s and early 90s. My last visit to the mall was probably in 1995. This video showed how much it has changed. It looks quite different.

    Lol FYI, we pronounce it "Ree-dough" . Thanks for this tour! Now i can share this with my friends and family to show them where i go basically every day... gosh i have sooo many random things that have happened to me in this mall. Lots of memories here! Id say 50% good memories and 50% bad memories.

    It used to be half the size. It’s unrecognizable now. I saw Independence Day and Jurassic Park here when it had a theatre.

    thank you so much for the video, i was nostalgic, i was here in 1998 for a school trip from france to canada, I remember only that there is going to be a shop with lots of fun things and jokes, a stand with lots of ice creams like we had never seen in France, and candy dispensers where there were little candies in the shape of orange, heart, bananas, the best sweets i have ever eaten

    Hey, I've eaten at that Irish pub across from the Grand, and at that Beavertails lol! I've been to the Rideau Center too, I had fun walking around the Tiffany and Co trying to act like I had money to be there haha!

    I worked there in the late '80's. 3rd level. O.B. Allen Jewellers. So close to U Ottawa & Parliament Buildings.

    I once lived in canada as student visa. I still can recall the vivid air, texture, atmosphere of good old rideau center. I wasnt able to make visit to Ottawa since I've left in 2012. I SERIOUSLY MISS CANADA.

    I don't shop at malls with fancy expensive clothing and things. I go to Second-hand Stores to buy all my clothes. Saves me tons of $$$ and will continue to shop at used places.

    You missed the view of Rideau Street from the rooftop! I also like to "sneak" into the stairwells of the Chateau Laurier for some pretty rad views of the Senate Building and Major's Hill Park.

      My high school prom was at the Chateau Laurier in 1981! I was about to hop a bus and go to the Byward Market and the Rideau Center... I'm over it. Going to stick closer to home...lol

    You mentioned several times that National Defense was located in a non-descript location next to your hotel.
    However they actually do have a much larger and secure headquarters just down Nicholas on the right (see the tall building down the street at 26:08.)
    They also have a large campus out in the suburban west end of Ottawa (in a field.).

    I lived in Ottawa during the 90s, and I always enjoyed walking the malls. But I would say that the St. Laurent Centre is bigger.

    Your title is wrong...Rideau is one shopping mall among others in Ottawa but not the largest one...You should visit BAYSHORE Shopping Mall (my preferred One) and SAINT-LAURENT Mall... :) are larger than Rideau

      @@janishart5128 Yes it is a French name/word, but I am almost certain that it's still not that over pronounced in french. At least not Canadian french. (yes there is a difference in Canadian french to french elsewhere).

    This just my opinion. The city of Ottawa is the most boring capital city in the world…… I have travelled to a lot of cities around the world and you can actually seat in a patio and enjoy live music or enjoy an outdoor concert; I know we are in regulations do to Covid…. But even before the pandemic hit us……there was no life, even today still no entertainment for tourist after 6 pm on any given day……. Like I said just my opinion….

    Ottawa really isnt nice. You completely avoided all the crack heads and homeless people. And hobos taking dumps in front of the malls. This is not the true representation of ottawa. Ottawa is DIRTY.
