These little things are always hard to transport, unless you have a bean bag. I've had GREAT luck transporting them in a bean bag, in the trunk, then I can stuff the radio "next" to it, but in it's own protective pocket.
Hi, I was wondering if you could give some advice. I got the plane a few days ago and took it out today for a maiden. Enjoyed the flight but crashed it into the ground nearly nose first twice. The first time the nose cracked badly and was dangling a little. I wrapped some electrical tape around it and managed to get a little more time on it. But then it nosed into the ground when the battery ran dry. Fixing it looks easy enough but how would you reinforce the nose?
You can use toothpicks. Just coat them in Mucilage, and ram them in, then break them off, and use the tip of another one to push it into the foam, so the broken end can't be seen. Works well with thin foam planes, but you will be adding weight, so do as little as you can to make it strong enough to hold together. If you don't have mucilage, you can use C, but you'll have to work FAST so that when you ram the toothpick in, you don't dry half way in....sometimes you gotta do it dry first, then CA the tip and ram it in again...
I've got this one for more than a year now. So far so good except for one thing that everybody should be aware of: the elevator servo jas broke and if you search through internet, you can see that it happens pretty much with every model.

Thanks for the kind words! I suspect you'll enjoy the plane - it is a fun one for the price point. Also, if you run into an issue where the motor stops running after a rough landing, you can remove the motor super easy to fix it. I had to resolder one lead once, and fix the shaft another time, but both really easy work....of course, if you want to avoid this, just don't crash it - LOL
@@BrianPhillipsRCHehheh yeah the plan is not to crash. But I'm pretty good with rc electronics. Hello excellent video, i have a question i have only flown drones, but i want to start with hobby of planes too, the planes are more difficult to fly? As you have to keep moving the elevator so it wont be going down or climbing to high? And the rudder its to turn faster than the ailerons of the wings, because the ailerons of the wings are to turn too right? So it is difficult to fly a plane
Planes are VERY similar - Pitch, Yaw, Roll, and Throttle - You already know how to fly a plane, but it's just a little bit different... I started flying drones right before I started flying my Sport Cub S UMX. The main difference, is that you CAN'T just STOP....which is a very foreign concept for drone pilots. Also, you need to have a plan for takeoff and landing. Also, you need to keep enough charge in your batteries to have enough to land with. One last pointer, you need to CHOP the throttle upon landing, which is somewhat opposite for drone pilots, as you may have an instinctive reaction to go FULL throttle when you're trying to avoid a crash. I hope the last one makes sense, but when you get to flying a plane, you'll totally understand ;) Just do it! You'll love it!
You control three axis, just like in a drone. Pitch, Yaw, and Roll....then you have Throttle too....only difference is the direction the throttle points - Drones, throttle make you go UP....Planes - Throttle pulls you FORWARD. You'll be amazed how quick you brain just makes it work :)
Got 2 of these 1 is mine one for my son 12, I keep returning to check on assembly. I have tried some others do I dare say the accents are atrocious, makes difficult to follow. As far as assembly - disassembly would that not be striping that plastic female threads?
Hey Brian, or anyone else who can help. I have a question for you, if one of the ailerons isnt aligning flush with one of the wing surfaces, and the servo is as close to 90 degrees as possible, what could be the issue? I can almost align it perfectly manually, but once I bind it, you get that quick servo "twitch", but it never re-aligns flush with the wing surface.
If it's a 2S, and it was a 2S - you will get the same "power" when flying, but the 20C would speak to the "pep" in the pack, while the 600mAh is just HOW MUCH you'll get of whatever you get out of the pack. I don't even remember what size these batteries were, since it's been many moons since we did this plane. Sorry I can't be of more assistance, but good luck either way!
I think you may have been asking too much for this little lightweight plane given your wind conditions. I bought one and have flown it several times using each of the 3 flight modes. the plane is incredible. It is lightweight however, and does get blown a bit in high winds. I am a beginner and have never flown an RC plane until I flew this. I think this plane is great for beginners. Just pay attention to wind conditions. It likes minimum to no wind. My next plane to fly, (just waiting for weather to break) is a Horizon Hobby carbon cub S+. I hope to get a few flights on that before flying my Tower Hobbies 40 nitro plane (gift from my daughter). I will then fly a Dynam Waco (gift to myself), then a 74inch Edge 540T (couldn't pass up the screaming deal). Yes, I got the training plan all lined up. There may be a Dynam Albatros sneaking in the line up somewhere! lol.
yes, I was definitely asking for too much - and it kinda held it's own :) I'll get another video when the weather is better. I love to hear these big plans! Nothing like a plane staring you down to keep you motivated!!! Good luck! P.S. I don't have one, speaking of the Carbon Cub S+, but I've flown one. It's a GREAT plane, with exception of the SAFE GPS+...which is a HUGE pain to setup...and will scare the crap out of you the first time the plane decides to "fly back in bounds"...but if it's your plane, and not just a borrowed plane for one flight, you'll learn how to deal with these issues. It's definitely a LOOKER!!!
Yeah, the carbon cub is mine. Another gift from my son. I got the TH 40 a few years ago. Finally got it put together and ran the engine. My son saw me getting into this and added the carbon cub to the fleet. He is getting into this as well. He has successfully flown my XK A800 as well. I bought a second battery for the cub and am saving it for my son. Next time out, we will both fly the XK and the cub and will have our own battery's. The 74 inch edge is another story. I sort of fell into a deal I couldn't say no to. It has never been flown and has a Saito FA-180 4 stroke nitro engine in it. The engine is new and has never been run. I do not do 3D (and nor do I want to) but do want to get a couple successful flights on the Edge before I retire it. I am a biplane freak and hope to be flying the Waco and Albatros mostly. At some point I see a Fokker with a 4 stroke nitro engine in my hangar. ;-)
I'm totally content, for the moment, with electric, but I must say, having a lipo or twenty go bad every other year or so is definitely annoying!!! When you use them, they do fine, but when they sit, they seem to just lose their chemistry, "storage mode" or not... Other than that, I mostly just want to get back in the air. It feels like it's been months (probably caz it has been!!!)
Just finished my assembly of this glider - hope to fly it tomorrow weather permitting. I noticed there is some channel mixing, so + throttle and elevator
Hello, that's a cool looking plane and seemed to fly well. Thanks for the video. Just having fun RC'n with friends. Have a merry Christmas to you and your family.
Great video and helpful. Had my maiden voyage today - never flown before. It was scary! Got a decent degree of control over it eventually and a bit more confidence. Then snapped the whole nice cone off it 🙁 What’s a good way to fix it? Good sort of glue? And tape? Great fun though! Thanks.
Not sure that it'll be fixable. It's hard on these little folding props. Here's a link for a FULL FUSE bit.ly/2RMfaKu Here's a link for the SPINNER AND FOLDING PROP bit.ly/2RI0FY3
C/G 1/3rd back from the leading edge on a non-swept wing is fine. Great video...and nice house! If I had one complaint about this cool bird, it's that replacement wings have the servos pre-installed and cost a small fortune. They force you to buy more servos when all you may need is the foam wing core. Just buying the left and right replacement wing costs more than buying the whole plane ready-to-fly ($25-$30 x 2). They need to offer wings without servos installed for a more reasonable price. It's the only thing holding me back from buying this plane. I want to set one up as a trainer for teaching friends. Speed and ailerons make it too touchy as-is. but I hope I can disable the ailerons for rudder/elevator control only and maybe drop the ailerons to a fixed and partially down position to increase lift and drag and slow it down a bit to allow for allow for reaction times.
This plane would not be a great plane for a starter, if you ask me. It's a cool plane, but I think the Sport Cub 500 would be way easier, and like you suggested, a bit more economical to fix? BUT this is a highly subjective topic, so there's no WRONG answer - other than supporting the FAA Remote ID rule ;) LOL....but seriously Good luck with your decision. Glad you're dragging your friend into this addiction!!!
Brian...I just watched all 42:19 minutes of this video and I still don’t know what hole to stick it in! Glider actually flies nice...I picked up,that xk a380... scale looks aweful but what the heck...forty two bucks!
Hi Brian I can’t seem to find your video on setting up a flapperon to a 4 Ch. plane with the DX radio. Can you please post the link . Merry Xmas to you and the mrs .
You can't find it because there isn't flapperons on a 4 ch radio system. Here's a channel list, in no particular order... 1) Throttle 2) Rudder 3) Elevator 4) (right) Aileron 5) (left) Aileron (this one you don't have) ...with a flapperon system, you can't "share" the Aileron channel to control two servos, you'd need one for the right aileron and one for the left aileron, since there will be times where BOTH are doing different things at the same time. This is why you'd need, at minimum, 5 channels, unless you didn't have a rudder, or throttle. Hope this helps you to understand why 4 channels won't work. Also, if you're talking about an XK Radio system, then you're dealing with a whole different ball of wax. Their setup is specific, with added complexities of stabilizers/gyros, and the way they positionally work in a given aircraft.
Hi Brian, nice review, I bought this plane, sweet flying aircraft, the only problem I was having is the battery charger or the battery was crap, I have a bunch of 500 to 800 mah batteries laying around with the red end on them, so I changed the end on the speed control, problem solved, it actually flies better with the heavier battery, did you guys get in your new house, beautiful kitchen, Merry Christmas to you and your family.........
Not in the house yet. So you used replaced the stock battery terminals with JST connectors? Good idea! I bet the extra nose weight would help this little guy carry more speed too.
I have to agree with your report Brian, having flown this plane, and crashed it twice even in beginner mode its not responsive which is a real challenge even in slight winds. I found it to be overly nose heavy so I then set the battery further back but its not a very responsive experience at all. There must be issues with the control wires that I need to tinker with - I agree 6-10 and not really for the absolute beginner.
This plane is a plane I wanted sooo badly to love, but it wasn't that great! Brushless motor with breaking would solve MOST of the problems I have with this plane...but that would be a lot more money.

There may be a Dynam Albatros sneaking in the line up somewhere! lol.
yes, I was definitely asking for too much - and it kinda held it's own :)
I'll get another video when the weather is better.
The Christmas,Airplane,verry good😉😉😉😉😁😁😁🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Merry Christmas to you too Master!!!
Just finished my assembly of this glider - hope to fly it tomorrow weather permitting. I noticed there is some channel mixing, so + throttle and elevator
The plane will have auto leveling, if I remember right.
Hello, that's a cool looking plane and seemed to fly well. Thanks for the video. Just having fun RC'n with friends. Have a merry Christmas to you and your family.
It's a sweet Christmas Tree Topper, if nothing else - LOL! I bet if it were marketed as a tree topper, it'd cost MORE ;)
Putting it in the cavity does make it harder. Careful with those props.
My recommendation is to make it harder, THEN put it in the cavity ;)
Great video and helpful. Had my maiden voyage today - never flown before. It was scary!
Got a decent degree of control over it eventually and a bit more confidence.
Then snapped the whole nice cone off it 🙁
What’s a good way to fix it? Good sort of glue? And tape?
Great fun though!
Thanks.
Not sure that it'll be fixable. It's hard on these little folding props.

Do you have to order the pillow separately?
LOL - yes. It's VERY expensive too!!!
BUT this is a highly subjective topic, so there's no WRONG answer - other than supporting the FAA Remote ID rule ;) LOL....but seriously
Good luck with your decision. Glad you're dragging your friend into this addiction!!!
Get that small Volantex Trainstar. It's alrrady a 3-channel trainer
Awesome video my friend!
Thanks Multirotor Go! Glad to see you here again!
Merry xmas Brian have a lovely Christmas and keep up the good work
You too! Thanks
Brian...I just watched all 42:19 minutes of this video and I still don’t know what hole to stick it in! Glider actually flies nice...I picked up,that xk a380... scale looks aweful but what the heck...forty two bucks!
Maybe I need to make you a special PSA about where to stick it........ ;)
100% made me laugh too Bri.
Excellent!
Hi Brian
I can’t seem to find your video on setting up a flapperon to a 4 Ch. plane with the DX radio.
Can you please post the link .
Merry Xmas to you and the mrs .
You can't find it because there isn't flapperons on a 4 ch radio system. Here's a channel list, in no particular order...
1) Throttle
2) Rudder
3) Elevator
4) (right) Aileron
5) (left) Aileron (this one you don't have)
...with a flapperon system, you can't "share" the Aileron channel to control two servos, you'd need one for the right aileron and one for the left aileron, since there will be times where BOTH are doing different things at the same time.
All you do is mix both ailerons with the elevator and then themselves ... RUclips rc mixing its not too hard
Rodney G...do you have a link you can share showing this process?
How much in to rate
?
Hello Brian! You sold me on Horizon Hobby. I bought the Blade 70s and out of the box it was a dud. I emailed them and next day the mailed me a new one and didn’t even ask me to ship the dud back...wow...that type of customer service is IMPOSSIBLE to fine now days! I realize your unboxing is from Banggood but sometimes when I order goods from them....I don’t receive me goods and I have no recourse. Anyway...looking good brother
Horizon Hobby is very good ;)
Nice plane I just ordered the carbon z Cessna 150 2.1 meters wont be in till March same with my dhc 2t turbo beaver should be here in a month
Cool! I still want to get the Carbon Z Cub, but have to wait till we're at our new place.
@@BrianPhillipsRC yeah and I was going to order it last week but seen the next shipment posted until March and I'm worried about the beaver cause it says not shipped in Canada so I'm wondering why but horizon told me they would try and get it to ship once available
I am making my baby along with you and at@ 2:30 I dont know why I am starting to sweat.. The bird or the comentary.. "Dont just ram it in!" "Gently stick it in". ... " If your doing it backwards it is gonna hurt" !.. Time for a cold shower before flight. bahahaha Great vid!
It gets pretty exciting around here!!!
You dinged the wing when you hit the tree is my guess
yes, I suspect you're correct.
DO NOT RAM IT and do not do it backward or it will hurt!!
That's most definitely "what she said".....
Hello Brian😁😁😁👏👏🏆🏆🏆🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Hi master!
@@BrianPhillipsRC merry Christmas Brian😁😁😁🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
how does your wife see this mess with all models, chargers in kitchen? :DD
She tolerates it...
Casually slams into the tree and doesnt even do anything...
yes
21:42 That's what she said.
LOL
Hi! ID on Battery Tester?
I don't understand your question.
Hey Brian! Where'd ya get that (supportive n probably patient) wifey of yours? Does she fly too!! Or...maybe she has a sister who's single! LOL. The only other youtube female(s) I've noticed in to RC's is Abby of Nate and Abby from the RcSaylors RUclips Channel!
Megan doesn't fly, despite my repeated attempts to get her to try it out. She does have a sister, but she's taken....sorry ;)
As for Nate and Abby, they have a special thing going. They've worked really hard and made a nice thing for themselves, here on RUclips, BUT I don't have to fight with my wife over who gets to play with my toys - LOL ;)
Do bangood sell wives as understanding as yours?
LOL - very nice!!!
I couldn't answer the way I wanted, or I might piss off my wife and Banggood - LOL ;)
First
congrats Mark!
flying over neighbors homes????????????,,, hope you have really good insurance
