“Clothes are meant to be played with.. fashion doesn’t need to be serious” Before I saw this video, I was one of those people who thought Emily’s wardrobe was eclectic, gaudy, and semi-outlandish. But after hearing the strategy behind her wardrobe, I have a newfound appreciation for the choices that were made. The choices were all deliberate to showcase who Emily, and the rest of the cast, truly are. I have a new appreciation for the styling, and it was a wake up call that not following the “norms” of fashion, doesnt always mean something is bad- sometimes all it takes is a change in perspective. It was a brilliant decision by the entire costume team, and hats off to InStyle for this feature. I hope Emily In Paris goes down in the history books as a reference for how fashion can be playful, even if it is a little bit outlandish.
Exactly. I was pissed off by the French women who gave their reviews after season one saying things like we have more beautiful girls than that. I thought they were standoffish, silly, and just silly
Marylin Fitoussi- you are the reason I watch this show. Finally, someone that understands me!!!! If you want to wear black, white and cream- Do it! But some of us need more and I am 100% on Fitoussi's side. Can't wait to see where she works next. I am a FAN- 1000%. Thank you for all the EXCITEMENT!!
Which brings into question the reception of the show. Is the #1 spot because of positive or negative feedback. From my understanding, there was a huge critique of the US citizen pushing her way as if it was “the best way”. A critique that some countries have on actual US tourists. So there is a percentage who hate watch.
@@MADEbySOULto me the creators never intended for the show to be realistic = they made an annoying, unrealistic, stereotypical rom-com. But they used a French clothing designer which is kinda ironically brilliant.
I own a fake brown Kelly, came from *suluxy* and it is just perfect, excellent craftmenship. Even if I had that money I would never pay that much for a bag, it is simply ridicolous. You can build a school or a hospital in Africa for that kind of money. Ridicolous prices!!!
OMG! You need to absolutely keep it! Whether it's true or not, this is special to you. People create packages, packages do not create people. Rock it girl, salute *suluxy* !
Wait, Parisian vloggers and content creators were saying that the wardrobe was definitely what an American thinks of French fashion and all this time it was under the tutelage of a French woman??? Lol. Now what? It was obvious from the start that it was a deliberate idea to dress Emily like that. You all need to trust Pat Fields when it comes to these things.
A french woman tutelage wouldn't prove it ain't based on American clichés tho. She can adapt to what she thinks will be the main audience or simply find these clichés fun to use.
Give credit to the americans for producing a popular show but just because it’s so cliché. This french lady designed emily’s clothes exactly the way it was meant to be portrayed: NOT PARISIAN. Imagine what it would feel like if a British guy put on some football gear and play the game horribly and say it’s just like soccer, how would americans feel? If an american had dressed that player, would it be less offensive? Ppl like me (who is not French) or the “Parisian vloggers and contrnt creators” who criticize Emily’s wardrobe are pissed at emily for her atrocious appropriation of other cultures. You don’t simply choose whatever you like and then say “this is Parisian”. You at least take the time to find out more about the ppl living there, their lifestyles, preferences and dislikes, perhaps learn their language, and THEN you can put a twist to that by blending in your own interpretation of it. With all due respect to this french designer, one person’s opinion of the whole Parisian fashion does not stand for all the dozens of elegantly, effortlessly chicly dressed Parisian ladies strolling down the streets of Paris.
OMG! You need to absolutely keep it! Whether it's true or not, this is special to you. People create packages, packages do not create people. Rock it girl, salute *suluxy* !
I'm happy they let Emily and Mindy keep their style. It would go against their characters to have a makeover to blend in. They let the new girl have a makeover this season, that was a good move because she's half French
I really LOVE this amazing stylist because her message is so true, since i start to see and follow the serie, i'm starting to explore and define more my style and that was for her and her amazing work on the serie❤ i admire you a lot Marylin you always will be an inspiration!
LOVE her and LOVE the fashion on the show! It does help to be a size zero like Lily Collins (I'm guessing here) "Do I want to make them cry?" while being sincere. Very charming.
There have been so many memorable fashion moments on EMIP, but the funniest was from this season when Emily and Mindy go to the clurb in their red leather outfits. I giggled so hard thinking 'They must be headed to Tam Tam or Yoyo'.
I am captivated by ‘Emily in Paris’ and the part fashion plays in the story. This background revelation as to how the clothes are the characters - fascinating.
I don’t like the show of Emily in Paris, I just go through the show looking for the outfits for inspiration. Thanks for your work helps a lot a girls out here. Is different, fresh and fashionable
I suppose it depends what lens you’re looking through. For entertainment and iconic outfits Emily’s do stand out, however if you are looking for inspiration you could implement into your own style, Camille steals the show!
i didn't need to be convinced about emily's and the rest of the cast's clothes (except the boss logo on Marcello's red jacket, perhaps) but love this inside look
I worked in the costume dept on the Rome episodes and I can honestly say that Marylin is one of the chicest person I've ever met. She was turning look after look every day and it was a joy to be amongst such beautiful and eclectic clothes! Not a fan of the show tbh but definitely a fan of the costumes and the costume designer
The fashion is very outrageous at times, even comical and tacky, and I don’t think all the ensembles can be pulled off by Emily’s anxious, naive character. I like what she said that fashion is the first and last message you send to ppl, that is so true.
I think it's all the boring people that insult emily's outfits. I love her outfits.I love all the outfits on the show. It's just the beige b's that save bad stuff about her outfits. And I think the outfits have really improved over the last two years.. I think this lady rocks. I remember people insulting the outfits on sex in the city back in the day and now they're iconic according to the new generation. I don't think emily's outfits really fit.How uptight her character is.. The funky stuff seems like it would go with a more free spirit like camile. But I'm thrilled to see the outfits. Either way, i've always been a lover of color and unique things and especially hats and accessories. It's a me. A stylish person is out of the box, interesting and creative.
Super chouette j adore votre creativite et votre versatilite. Merci for this fashion lesson it s revolutionary, bright, colorful and happy ❤❤❤❤ fed up of black, Grey, white etc... Life is unique and we should live it at 200kms an hour😅😅😅😅
To me, her cloths do not look organic on her.. as if she doesn't "feel" them, cannot pull them off.. too extravagant for the actress and for the character (IMHO)
I thought it was fascinating to get an insight into the process of building these costumes and the creative mind of this artist. At the same time I feel the same about the character of Emily - I don't see her as bold and free in spirit, open to experiment as these costumes might promise. But nevertheless, I absolutely enjoy the show and frame the costume design as "a playful exhibition of colour, shape and material" and finally YES to not repeating the same old, palatable, agreeable, conventional stream of outfits we all have seen in a million iterations
In a interview for the 4th season Lily Collins said that Emily also at the beginning had a lot of trouble communicating her feelings, that's why her clothes are more playful and expressive, but now that the character had some growth and she is better now expressing her feelings with words, her clothes are starting to come a little bit more grown up"
I love the colorful palette and bold shapes. To me it's a pleasure to look at. I agree, I'm French and French fashion is a bit boring. I don't think Emily is mixing French and American styles. She is 100 % Spanish style, an Almodovar diva without the jewelry...
Yes the color of the LYXBAGS is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
I’m a maximalist myself but hated the Emily franchise and the main character precisely because of what her fashion stood for. I’m not French, nor American so I’m not biased in anyway but the way Emily landed her job in Paris with no prior experience, zero french skills, and her annoying naivete bordering on insensitivity is what made me hate her loud fashion and sympathize with all the “parisians” that Netflix imagined what parisians would be like. Her loud fashion is NOT about being unique, it’s more about making a statement that she doesn’t give a sxxx to at least try to meet the standards of her job. Marylin Fitoussi’s idea of what fashion/clothes should be is understandable and i give her credit for time and effort put into her looks for emily. She’s also the living proof of what she preaches; you can be elegant with loud colors and bold designs. And the opposite is also true; wearing toned-down colors like black, gray, beige, etc doesn’t necessarily make that person elegant. So, sorry for being brutal but Emily will NEVER be elegant NO MATTER WHAT SHE WEARS and i wish Sylvie would’ve squashed her ignorantly bloated ego in the first season so we wouldn’t be tortured with more insulting “Paris” fantasies from ignorant foreigners with clichés stuck in their brains. Ugh.
Years ago I would never have bought fake however recently I have done and when you realise and compare both "hight quality luxury" and "fake" like I have done, you tend to feel scammed as the product and materials are exact the same *suluxy*
I can listen this women talk about clothes for a whole day, love her attitude.❤
Wowowow this is even more interesting than the actual show!
not by much though.
So true
I always go for *suluxy* , their quality is great. and for authenticators to not be able to detect it as a fake

I agree!! I was a hate before but I like that she's not acting so serious

*suluxy* almost identical, i couldn´t see the difference until you said which one was replica & authentic. Anyway thanks for sharing.
Give this woman a cameo
give her a court date!
The website link for the higher quality replicas is *suluxy* . Do you have another?

I love that the fashion designer on this show is in fact an authentic French woman.

this vid actually changed my mind on Emily's fashion, i have always thought that it was weird and chaotic but now i feel the creativity
Love her❤
i'm not afraid to admit i love this show and its mostly because of what they are wearing.
finally an answer to the burning question: “why does she look like that”
😂 good one!
And furthermore, why is anybody charging for it?

Omg this is the woman behind the looks !!! Wow love this 🎉❤
Loved this in-depth look and understanding of the characters garments and how they tell the story. Beautifully done ❤
The designer is giving Emily maximalism and Slyvie French chic. Obsessed. Give us a show about her
Oh my god I need the series of behind the scenes of Emily in Paris’s wardrobes! Interesting to watch ❤❤❤❤❤

Emily in Paris is like a fashion show. I watch the series to see the outfits, but I like the way Sylvie dresses
As an illustrator these looks are the most fun things to draw!
She is the real star of the show
This series, Emily in Paris, wardrobe is so amazing!!!!!
I'm happy they let Emily and Mindy keep their style. It would go against their characters to have a makeover to blend in. They let the new girl have a makeover this season, that was a good move because she's half French
Next season please show where she's keeping the clothes in that tiny apartment lmao
hahahahaha
Yes, I think the same... and how does she travel with all those clothes?
@@SylvieLooks And how does she pay for them?
@@djskabzhxnsoz maybe she buys and returns them the day after lmaooo

OH MY GOD THIS WOMAN IS ICONIC this was the best video ever thank you !!!!!!
Love Barbara Bui blue suit !!🤩

I really love her fashion style🎉❤
i love her description and the way she look at clothes it really helps me as I am studying and love fashion
Fascinating interview! Thank you Instyle!
We needed this! When fashion follows the character personality and growth is super interesting
I am captivated by ‘Emily in Paris’ and the part fashion plays in the story. This background revelation as to how the clothes are the characters - fascinating.
deeply inspired by Fitoussi sharing her philosophy - amazing
I don’t like the show of Emily in Paris, I just go through the show looking for the outfits for inspiration. Thanks for your work helps a lot a girls out here. Is different, fresh and fashionable
now I gotta go back to the source material with my new understanding!!
I love the clothes, just always wonder how can they walk in Paris with those SHOES, TIPS PLEASE?
Why is this feature more interesting than the series itself?
Finally! I have been waiting for this. The colors are phenomenal.
I wish we heard more about Camille’s looks they are soooo chic and don’t get enough appreciation!
Chic but classic, i can't remember any of her looks. But Emily's looks are unforgettable.

Minimalism corrupted our mind into thinking fashion should make sense and quiet. Fashion should be fun!
in the end, Emily is an American in Paris who was a true fish out of water like the designer said. it makes perfect sense

“Emily in Paris was such a wonderful project” has me thinking the show is permanently evolving into Emily in Rome or S5 could be the final season.
love the show and LOVE this behind the scenes. Ms. Fitoussi is kicking goals with all this fabby fashion
Amazing 🤩

I love it! It’s very inspiring 🌺
amazing ❤
Great series
Emily lives in a small apartment, so I'm sure she rents a warehouse to store her super expensive clothes.
A very important lesson: no logos, no branding. Americans could certainly learn from that.
Marylin, i think you should start doing a more eclectic lip, say, a mime/geisha lip.
Elle fait du bon travail !
Great 👍
She makes me want to watch the show with the sound off. I just want to look at the clothes.
Love the fashion in this season!
Ok now it males sense. I thout Pat Field was doing the clothes, but these outfits are WAY more maximalist than Pat usually does
