  • Walmart is providing more insight behind its decision to close two San Diego County stores.
The Walmart locations at 2121 Imperial Ave. in San Diego and at 605 Fletcher Parkway in El Cajon will shut down on Feb. 9.
At the Walmart Neighborhood Market in Sherman Heights, people expressed shock over the closure saying it's always busy, so they can't understand why the stores is closing after nearly 11 years in business.
"This is like the whole neighborhood's store. I don't know what we're supposed to do," said Candace Gardiner.

For anyone who doesn't live in San Diego, those 2 areas are crime infested. Funny how they dont mention the rise in theft and how the "$ amount stolen" to catch a felony was increased.

The lease excuse is B.S. Generally, commercial leases are negotiated with 10-15 year term to start and then option to renew every 5 years for a total term of 50-90 years. Rate of increases is often negotiated as well. Walmart is no amateur when it comes to this stuff. In short, the stores weren't doing well. Since many say the stores were busy, then likely it was theft that did the locations in.

I don't live in the area or even in the state of California but from my research, I found those stores have a VERY HIGH CRIME RATE (shoplifting, credit fraud, illegal food stamp transaction, etc.) and I personally believe that is the main reason why those stores are closing. Wal-Mart doesn't want to tell the truth in fear it will encourage people in other areas to go after their other Wal Mart stores being an easy target for criminals. Just my opinion.

  • @muhlenberg2608

"Doesn't meet financial expectations" is a euphemism for rampant shoplifting. If a store is operating at a 1% margin and 5% of their merchandise is being stolen, it is operating at a loss.

  • @here_we_go_again2571

*Too much retail theft has cut down on the profit margin.*
*This is a common problem in California because the laws do not punish shoplifters*
The alternative to having them close would be for the store to revamp it for a new style of shopping. That is have the customer
wait in some sort of lobby while an employee filled a cart and checked out the merchandise. The customer would receive the cart
after the merchandise was paid for. There would probably also be a no-returns policy. Wal-Mart doesn't want to bother with this
    type of shopping model.
