- Caitlin Clark, NaLyssa Smith and Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides postgame media availability following a double-digit win in Atlanta. They've now won four straight games and six of their last eight.
It was their second consecutive game without trailing.
Five Fever players reached double figures in another balanced attack. Smith had 21 points and nine rebounds, Aliyah Boston had 10 & 10, Kelsey Mitchell scored 18 points and Clark finished with 16 points, four rebounds and seven assists in the win.
The Fever shot 57% from the field, were +22 in the paint and won despite the Dream's FT differential: 31/35 while the Fever were 6/11.

It's the rivalry and it helps ratings and ticket sales. They need to lean into it just like NBA did with Bird and magic, Celtics and Lakers. Drama sells. Saying it's just another game is rather boring to be honest.Every matchup isn't created equal. Male sports lean into their rivalries. It's not always gonna be business as usual.

NaLyssa has been super aggressive on offense. She’s can score in a lot of ways. Now that she’s running the floor, she’s getting some easy layups too. I’m glad Sides decided to ditch that slow pace half court offense.

That is true, I'm glad they're at least getting better at passing the ball to her more. But with her being a point guard, her position is the one that passes the most has the more assists than other positions.
DAMMM, these last few wins has been exciting to watch...exspecially when the push the ball and speed up the game...i enjoy watching fast break offense...this is my first year watching the wnba bcuz of my interest with CC, but now my interest is on the entire team...love the fevers...and this team could be a TOP 5 team next year or the year after...and for many years after that...the record doeesnt reflect it, but wow, an exciting and amazing team!!!
Actually, I am a Cc fan but tonight it didn’t appear to me that she played with a lot of enthusiasm. I didn’t see her energy and she needs to shoot the ball minimum 15 times ( she shot it 12 times). Smith shot it 17 times and who is better on offense? Smith or Clark: Cc of course! She is too unselfish and just the opposite of Mitchell.
It's crazy CC would have 10 -15 assist a game if her teammates would handle the passes and not miss open lay ups it's like pistol pete player's wasn't ready for passes from him early on her team will adjust in time but I like how CC not shooting 15 to 20 times a game like other stars in the league fever is winning CC could be selfish but she's not CC could stat stuff but she's a team player good for her

I'm old enough to remember pistols 1st year with Atlanta when he threw a great, great no look pass to Lou Hudson, and smacked him right in the side of his head. Hopefully CC's teammates will always be ready for the ball.

I too was glad to see Celeste get a minute of play, and I very much wish she'd be given the opportunity to get a meaningful number of minutes together with Caitlin on the floor at the same time. Celeste hasn't gotten a fair shake this year.
Many people criticize the Fever's defensive play, and even Coach Sides acknowledges they need to improve on defense. Yet she has the Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year on her bench and doesn't give her minutes. Shaking my head. 😢

I thought cc didn’t play up to her potential at all tonight because I didn’t see much effort or aggression from her. She was just going through the motions and was passing too much and only 12 shots. She needs to shoot it 15-20 times. But this coach is allowing everyone to feel like they are the star. There is only one star on this team and the offense needs to run through their best player and then go to option 2 and 3.

Posted earlier today that NaLyssa’s play of late has opened everything up for them. Frees AB up down low and the outside shooters as well. She has been playing great D too. Awesome way to open up a 5 game road trip.
Still feel bad for Celeste. She was the best college defender last season but Sides basically ignores her. That has to be so disheartening for her. Way to break her Spirit Sides. You've been trying to break CC since day one but she's stronger than you are. You could have been a mentor to CC and Celeste but have let them both down.

No, she didn't. People don't have to like the coach, but we should at least be fair. They had the toughest schedule, playing the top 3 teams 6 games as well. They started to win once they had time to practice. We can't overlook that. 1-8 playing basically every other day and now 6-2 after getting some reps in. They still have played more games than any other team. The schedule has gotten more favorable. If they played Mystics, Dream, or Sky instead of Liberty 3 times or Conn twice, the Fever could easily be 9-8. 4 games on the road now ending at Aces, then back home for the Liberty. Let's see how they do. We need to give Sides more credit because she kept the team together and believing in themselves. Right now 6th, 7th, and 8th are up for grabs. If the Fever ends up at number 6 and wins at least 1 playoff game. Sides could be Coach of the Year. Full disclosure, I'm a Liberty fan, but I'm rooting for the Fever to do well. Have a good evening.
@@ghostn9ne I was very tough on Sides too at first, thinking she gone be gone at the end of the season. But its true, they had a brutal schedule, they couldn't practice and finally got that break, playing some mid level and younger teams and they are competitive. Nobody expects the Fever to walk into NY and beat the Liberty in a series, at least this year. They are definitely an up and coming team though. Sides has been able to help turn these girls into losing multiple games in a row to winning in a row. PS I went to the atlanta game tonight, first every WNBA game. It was a lot of fun.

I love CC but taking a college player and throw her on an Olympic team is fraught with peril. The styles are VERY DIFFERENT, Olympics is much more physical and the rules are different. She may or may not be a good fit but the chances she gets hurt are waaayyy high.

Look at the plus numbers, then think, what might happen if Clark is getting that ball back in three-point range.
She hits the threes and then draws more defenders and that opens up passing lanes and she hits those passing lanes and they score, and the other tome has to drop back for coverage. Repeat as required

Shallow thinking. CC reads the court and helps teammates get doubles. What her teammates realize is CC is there to assist them and it’s not the CC show.
Exactly. the OP doesn’t understand the game. Clark is their QB now. She sees the floor well and has been doing great distributing the ball which is why they are on a 5 game win streak. As they get to know each other soon she will be passing them open. All these assists and she is still getting her points. Try to keep your emotions in check and understand the game.

Fever starting to get cofortable around phenom passer CC22. Boston STILL must start every fresh 24 offense setting high post screens for shooters, then roll towards low post expecting a pass or getting a rebound.
The coach doesn't seem to know Caitlin Clark is a phenomenal shooter as well. The crowds will start to disappear if she doesn't wise up.

what a disappointing game. This game was sooo ugly. One team paying half the way they should the other just awful. CC Iowa team would blow them out. The offensive scheme is a joke. I have been coaching and involved in basketball since 1970, this is NOT how you utilize great talent. Just wait till they start playing good teams again , they will get blown out. Sides is the worst coach ever, just a stoner cheerleader. CC is completely out of her game. and the other hacks think they are stars. REALITY will kick in a few weeks. It is painful to watch women play sports.
They should maximize CCs shooting. They are plays where she is just standing there because the other players is not passing.
They should let CC to orchestrate their plays and have her teammates make screens for the 3s just like GS did for Curry.
Dude you hit the nail on the head. I have been writing the same exact comments throughout in here and then ran into yours. They should be running the offense through Cc and she played like a boring zombie tonight, passing too much and I didn’t see the energy. The coach is going to get killed soon with a good team unless Cc steps up and starts taking over.

@@Unknown-sy6qt I have seen this ‘we are all equal strategy’ before when the coach tries to keep everyone happy by playing people who don’t deserve to play and it doesn’t work because the coach isn’t tough enough to make the best decisions to win the game and is instead trying to act like Mother Sides instead of Coach Sides.

Wish all tv coverage would show more stats during the game. Just a little ticker running by the score that shows high scorers or stats on who is at the free throw line. Also we at home don’t know what foul was called on who and why and I think the commentators fail to keep us filled in.

SO Wheeler and Wallace came with Coach Sides from Atlanta, they are two of the weakest players in the line-up. The fact that she does not change the lineup it shows she is not a good coach.
Sides playing Wheeler for over half the game again, Sides is playing two point guards at the same time and pouching assists from Catlin.
