I’ve always liked the idea of if any 2 of the top 3 contenders agree to fight for the right to progress automatically to the title shot. It’s a business so at the end of the day it’s going to win out for who gets any top tier fight these days. I think if the ufc limited the roster to no more than a top 15 or 20 contenders for each champions belt in each division.
Would make a lot more sense this way but then fight cancellations would be a lot more detrimental to events because if there’s 15 guys that means only 13 are on the back burner and chances are that most of them either have a fight their already training for or they can’t make the weight on short notice.

The one thing I disagree is that champions should pick their opponents. Once your a champ the attitude should be: "Bring me whoever you guys got, I'll beat them all, I don't care what order, I'm the best". Maybe behind the scenes they should be part of the conversation. On the way up as a contender, it's the opposite, gotta always be calling out the champ and guys ahead of you.

I’ve always liked the idea of if any 2 of the top 3 contenders agree to fight for the right to progress automatically to the title shot.
It’s a business so at the end of the day it’s going to win out for who gets any top tier fight these days.
I think if the ufc limited the roster to no more than a top 15 or 20 contenders for each champions belt in each division.
Would make a lot more sense this way but then fight cancellations would be a lot more detrimental to events because if there’s 15 guys that means only 13 are on the back burner and chances are that most of them either have a fight their already training for or they can’t make the weight on short notice.

The one thing I disagree is that champions should pick their opponents. Once your a champ the attitude should be: "Bring me whoever you guys got, I'll beat them all, I don't care what order, I'm the best". Maybe behind the scenes they should be part of the conversation.
